Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

How pathetic is this...I am sitting here on a Saturday night working on a proposal for work that is due on Monday. I figured I would check the board and it looks like I will be the first to post on the new thread. Well, I am working from my home office and I did just open a Black & Tan to help me relax as I finish this thing.

Hopefully I will get in a decent run tomorrow. Next week I'll get back with the program and start training for WDW 2008.

18 miles for me today in 4:01:12 for a 13:24 pace. I switched to R3/W2 to better keep up with my pace group, but still self-destructed with about 4 miles left. My half marathon split was great...2:44:22 which was better than the previous split during my 16 miler. Training for a full has sure helped my half marathon pace...does that mean I have train for an ultra to help my full pace?

The good news is that overall, 18 was less painful than 16...bad news is I already can't walk on my ankle. Usually it's stiff the next morning, but it's really bad today. I have pretty high pain tolerance and I was getting nauseated walking on it. I believe a podiatry visit may be in my future. I'm also thinking about bagging my 22 mile run. I like having the mental edge, but not sure an additional big mileage LR is going to work for my foot.

Congrats to everyone getting in those high mileage LR this weekend! I was thinking about how mentally tough you guys that do these runs on the TM have to be. It would be just waaay too easy to jump off when I get bored or sore.

Monica...I threw a couple extra weeks in my training plan so I maybe a little ahead of the routine MFM plan. I think Martha added a few to hers too. Sounds like snowshoeing would be great XT!

Cecilia...let us know how the eggnog worked out!

Kristi...prednisone is rough. I had to take it one time for hives and thought I was going to start chewing the baseboards!

Martha...congrats on your 20! Are you going to keep increasing mileage from here or just stick with 20?

Leana...great pace on your 8...good luck tomorrow with 17! How's the weather for you?

Lynnda...ummm...sorry, but GO GATORS! ;)

Kristin...wtg on your 19 miles!

Lisa...:wizard: to help you feel better.

Stacey...yep, Carrie made the sponges.

Question for you seasoned marathoners...do you carry any solid food with you? I'm wondering if I should bring some peanut butter crackers for the sodium, protein and carb boost, instead of relying on gels alone. Anybody bring anything besides gels during a race?

Good training everyone!

Mel - I don't qualify as seasoned but can tell you about my 2. They passed out bags of chips and pretzels around mile 21 or 22 in my first. Those were THE BEST pretzels I've ever had!!

I had nothing other than a gel and a slice of orange for MCM and was happy do eat anything they gave me at the finish. I don't feel it hindered my performance but man, I was hungry.

I'm thinking that a nice solid, crunchy, salty snack along the way would be great (especially since you're planning around a 6hr pace).

I'm still trying to figure out a way to get a Kitchen Sink out there as we run past the Beach Club  .

BTW, great job on the 18 miles. I hope the ankle recovers quickly!

Good Morning Teammates: :surfweb:

OK, I've been pretty lazy since the MCM :sad2:. I get in my short runs during the week, but I haven't been able to get out the door the past 2 weeks for a weekend LR. I was up at 5am yesterday, but then I started Christmas shopping online, and it was cold out, yadda, yadda, yadda... before I knew, it I had talked myself out of running. I think I need to find some local races to run to keep me going.

Mel- Great job on your 18 miles yesterday. That's AWESOME!!! :cool1: You're doing fantastic. Good to know that training for the full is helping your 1/2M pace too. WTG! How's your foot these days anyway?

Mel: WOW...great job on that 18 Miler!! I'm just sorry to hear that your ankle is hurting so much :(. Is it tendonitis? Where is the pain...right along the side leading up to the shins? Make sure you ice ice ice today. And let us know how how you are feeling later!!!

As for solid food...unfortunately I can't stomach anything except gels during the runs. I do one every 4 miles though LOL. That's a LOT of gel...so I guess it keeps the need for food down :).

Dave: Don't beat yourself up for not getting those LRs in. You had such a great race at MCM...you'll get back to it. Nothing wrong with some recovery time. I hope you find a good race to train for....I know that for me it's the only thing that motivates me to keep going. I'm not fortunate enough to love the LRs or running for that matter (I know..blasphemy)...so I need a reason to push.

Laurie: Sorry for the tough run and the sore knees. I know it's easy to question your ability to complete the marathon after having a brutal training run...but I truly believe you will finish the marathon and have a great experience! Remember....you'll be running the 26.2 on fresh rested legs. That makes a HUGE difference :).

Martha: How are you feeling today? Once again great job on the 20!!!

Cecilia: How are the legs feeling today? I'm just amazed that you ran such a LR after racing the half pretty hard on Thursday. Incredible to me!

Good luck to anyone with their LRs today. I'm heading out for 14 this FRIGID afternoon!!!

Hi Amy :wave2: - Boy I WISH we could have met last year. Thanks for your note. I'm the same way, I like the running once I'm doing it, but it's a struggle for me to get going a lot of times. It's sooooo much easier to not run than it is to run. I need that reason too. Good luck with your chilly 14 miles.

Hello WISHers!

It's a scheduled rest day for me, so unless DD or DS want to go for a run the most exercise I'll get is cheering for DS at his (nice warm indoor) soccer game.

Lou - Cheers! :drinking1

Mel - Way to get those miles done! I usually eat a bit of a Clif bar every six miles -- helps keep my stomach settled.

Mike - I did pretzels after my last half and it was a good thing!

MSDave and Amy - I've got to get signed up for a race after the WDW marathon to keep me going, or I know I'll get lazy.

Happy training, all!
Renee

Hi, everyone! I'm sorry I've been so absent, but I think I've read up to here now.
To all our WISH teammates nursing injuries or pains or illness -- pixiedust: and
All these LRs are very inspiring and reminding me I have to keep my butt in gear!
We did a 5k for MS on Thanksgiving day and though my time wasn't great, I was pleased with how much of it I jogged.
Yesterday was 16.25 miles in 4 hours. I promised myself I only had to stay on the TM for 4 hours and whatever was accomplished by then would have to do. I was pleased to be able to keep it set at 4.0 mph and occasionally jog a minute or two. My back is killing me today and I'm actualy looking forward to PT tomorrow. The good thing is that except for one monster blister on my left foot, I am in pretty good shape today, pain-wise other than my back.
I am sure that sitting through "August Rush" yesterday at an 11:30 show and again last night at 7:20 didn't speed my recovery! LOL! :lmao: But how could I resist? I am a music fiend and think Freddie Highmore is the best actor in forever. Have now downloaded the music and parts of it will end up on my running playlist. Gotta LOVE percussive guitar!!! (Well, Andrew had to get it somewhere, right?)
Will catch up more later, but wanted to be sure to congratulate everyone on their LRs this weekend!

Sorry but I haven't had a chance to catch up on the posts. Just got back from Las Vegas. Had one of the best runs of my life. No, not performance wise, but I had the opportunity to get up early and run the strip. What a blast running past Venice, New York City, Indonesia, Monte Carlo, OK, they are fake but it was still fun.

Anyway it looks like everyone is at that stage where we are all doing LR's. I did 18 yesterday after we got back and felt pretty good. I am doing the MFM but have added 2 miles to the long runs just to get the mental edge. I have a 20 and 22 miler left. It is nice to be able to run later in the day. Up until now it has been too hot so I had to get up at 5:00 to get out running. Almost needed a long sleeve shirt yesterday! It is supposed to be 85 today so the colder weather is still not here.

Renee, I like the idea of signing up for a race after Disney. Maybe not a marathon, but another challenging race. You are right, it will be too easy to just slog around.

have a great week everyone.
Duane

Good Morning WISHers!!! Well, there will be absolutely NO training for me today, I am quite sore from yesterday's 18 miler, so I am going to take it easy today. Since there is no Nascar to watch :sad1: , I plan on doing some scrapbooking, since I haven't done it in soooooo... long, and I need to get some packing done for Disney! I can't wait, this Friday night, I will be down in WDW, hanging out with the mouse! :cool1: :cool1:

lou--sorry to hear you had work to do last night...I know the feeling, sometimes, that is the only quiet time that I can get things done for school! Hope you got a good run in today!

Mel--nice job on your 18 miler...sorry to hear your ankle is not feeling better. It may be a smart idea to not do the 22 miler, and be healthy for the race in January. Hang in there! BTW-can't really have any solid food when I run...I just can't stomach it.

MSDave--I agree about finding local races to stay motivated. This summer my training really suffered because I felt I had nothing close to train for before my official marathon training program started. I think it is a great idea to sign up for some races!

Amy--I hope the 14 miler goes well this afternoon..hope you bundle up, it is cold out there today!

Cam--over 16 miles on the TM...YIKES!!! I couldn't even imagine doing that!!! I am sick of the TM after about 3-4 miles! Sorry to hear your back is hurting..take it easy today!

Duane--sounds like you had fun in Vegas...that run does sound really cool!!!

I hope everyone has a great day! I am sure some of you are heading out for LR's or other workouts, and I hope they all go well!!

Good morning WISHers! Hoping everyone is having a great Sunday.

16 miles scheduled, 16 miles completed in 3:17. 53 degrees, cloudy and windy. Almost perfect running weather.

Unless I can miraculously find some speed I’ll be looking at a 5:30 marathon (I really need to quit fussing about it). A couple of significant items to report, my feet hurt so bad at the end it had me cussing out loud, and forgetting to put Body Glide on the nips before running makes for some god awful screams in the shower afterwards. :scared1:

Mel – WTG with the 18 miler! Hope the feet are ok.

Lou – Hope you can get your run in tomorrow.

Amy – Hope you have a great 14 miler!

Cam – WTG with the 5K and 16 milers! :thumbsup2

Duane – WTG with the 18 miler. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. :rolleyes1

Laurie – WTG with the 18 miler yesterday! Have you seen the Dale Earnhardt boxed set offered through Walmart? It has Dale the Movie, the 2000 Winston 500 from Talladega (where he came from 18th to first in 5 laps to win the race) and I believe the 1998 Daytona 500. I told the DW, if that’s the only thing she gets me for Christmas, that’s cool with me.

:)

Lynnda...ummm...sorry, but GO GATORS! ;)

***hangs head in shame*** I will admit that the gators played really well. I definitely underestimated Tebow. And you have NO idea how it pains me to say... Congrats! :headache:
;) BTW - awesome job on the 18 miles!!!! :thumbsup2

Big Vic - Congrats on the 16 miles!!!

Laurie - Great job on the 18 miles!!! I hope you have a wonderful time at WDW!

Duane - That run sounds awesome! Good job on the 18 miles!!

Cam - :worship: 4 hours on the dreadmill... Great job!!! I seriously can't wait to see that movie! I'm sure I will be a bawling mess through most of it, but as a music teacher, it is a must-see for me! :goodvibes

Renee - Have fun at the soccer game!

Amy - Good luck on your 14 miles! Can we get some of that "frigid" down here??? It is supposed to be in the 80's again today... too hot to be running!!!

Dave - I hope you can find a local race to work toward!

I did an 8 mile walk yesterday. Temp was up in the 80's and I have a nice sunburn to prove it. I still can't stay ahead of the sweepers, yet, but the PF is not too bad today, so I will try to push the pace next week.

Great job everyone on all the training!

--Lynnda

Yay...14 miles in the bank today :). 7 miles in the bank yesterday :).

It wasn't a pretty run for me today. But I gave myself permission to back off the pace a bit since my muscles were sore for some reason today? I did 7 hilly Miles yesterday (goofy training) and I guess the hills literally kicked my butt since I had a sore booty today ;).

Anyway...today my legs were really sore from 7 miles on...but I know it's a result of running hard in the race on Thursday, some cardio xt on Friday via the ski machine and 2.5 hours of pilates in the past two days. My body is just going....WTH girl?? Soo...I'm just really happy to complete the miles today. Pace was off by over 30 seconds :rolleyes1 but that's ok. Rested legs should help my pace in the marathon...we hope ;). Otherwise I need to go move myself into the next group over there on the Pace Thread lol!

MSDave:  HI! Are you looking at doing any races any time soon?? I have Disneyland on the horizon but I hope to find something else to run in the meantime. That's too far away and might lend itself to my innate running laziness ;).

Vic: :thumbsup2 Awesome job on the LR!!!! Gosh..my feet were killing me today too..along with the knees, hips and booty LOL. But yikes for the shower! Let's all repeat "no such thing as too much body glide." ;)

Laurie and Lou: Are you thinking about doing the NJ Marathon in May?

Cam: WOW..4 hours...that takes a certain level of toughness that I simply don't have. You rock woman!! :woohoo:

Renee: YAY for rest days. You earned it!!! ENJOY! :cloud9:

Lynnda: Congrats on the 8 Miler!!! And glad to hear the PF isn't rearing it's ugly head. NOT fun to deal with that!!!

I got my 8.5 miles done yesterday, the 17 miles done today in 3:24:47 for a 12:03/mi. I got it done but it wasn't pretty. I was pretty pooped in the second half of the run and my legs felt like they were going into autopilot. I almost wanted to cut out the walk breaks because it was so hard to get going after them.

And...I got one really big blister on the arch of my right foot (which I felt developing the entire time), and one blood blister on the inside heel of my left foot which was a surprise when the sock came off. It looks like you are supposed to leave them alone so I will aim to buy some more of those Band-Aide blister bandages today. No pretty shoes for me this week at work!

Hi Everyone -

Well, the eggnog helped. :goodvibes Watching Auburn beat Bama helped too. :woohoo: Maybe it was the combination. :dance3:
The legs feel great today. and even better:
it's RAINING!!

This week is a recovery week so nice easy mileage to help the ol' legs loosen up some more.

The good news is that I think I will be able to finish the Goofy. That is as long as I take it easy. That sounds so simple.....

Cecilia

Laurie and Lou: Are you thinking about doing the NJ Marathon in May?

Amy--I actually did the Long Branch Half in the spring, which is run at the same time as the NJ Marathon....it was a great course, very flat. My problem is that the Marathon course is two loops, I just can't imagine running a course one time, passing the finish line and having to do the whole thing again. I was actually thinking about doing the half again, I had a great time doing that race!

A couple of significant items to report, my feet hurt so bad at the end it had me cussing out loud, and forgetting to put Body Glide on the nips before running makes for some god awful screams in the shower afterwards.

Vic, Been there; done that; screamed in shower. :guilty:

My tip (that's "tip" not "nip"): Nexcare "Heavy Duty" Flexible Fabric Bandages. The only band-aid that stays on through sweat and long runs. :thumbsup2 Oh wait; this is way too much information for a public board :scared: .

Hey guys - got my 9/18 done this weekend (well theoretically anyway, 1.55 Sat. 3.30 Sunday , I'm trying not to worry about not being able to measure mileage, I know I'm running somewhere between 11 and 12 minute miles so I'm there give or take a few hundred metres).

Only wobbly bit was 2.15 in on Sunday, I was really tired and just thought, 'what am I doing' but then breakfast must have kicked in or something as come 3 hours I was sprinting back over the Sydney Harbour Bridge - I don't normally run it as it's always hurt my knees, but I'm running out of road now I'm past 3 hours so I thought I'd try it.

Problem is I'm scared of heights but I had run on the outside to avoid the camber - I was doing fine till I looked down to check my shoelace and caught a glimpse through the railings - then got all wobbly and had to get off the bridge as fast as possible - thankfully it was downhill at that point (and I was on my way back home or I'd still be over the other side of the harbour!). I figure if I can sprint at 3.05, and then keep up for another 25 mins, I' going to be okay to run 4 hours in 2 weeks!

Glad everyone else went well - just think, only two more 'long' runs (anything under 3.30 hours is now a short run!) and we're done. Helen

:)

So sorry but...:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ! I wear a jog bra, so that is not an issue.

OK after my 16+ miler (at a slower speed than normal) I find my right hip hurting.:confused3 Not sure what is going on there. Not too worried yet b/c it is fine when I walk...but sitting hurts a little. I am now DONE with any running over 8 miles so that may help. I think my body needs a good taper.

The good news is that I think I will be able to finish the Goofy. That is as long as I take it easy. That sounds so simple.....
Cecilia - GIRL! You got the Goofy in the bag!:thumbsup2 I totally respected the distance when I did it so I have to say it was the easiest half/full marathon I have ever done. YOU GO GIRL! Is that the race you are a TNT coach for?

WTG to everyone putting in the LRs! You guys are doing so great!

SWDave - Don't worry about not getting LRs in. You just did a marathon...give yourself a rest. At least you are doing your short runs.

Later all! THis is going to be a KILLER week for me....I go into the studio tomorrow and Tuesday to record songs for an upcoming show!:scared1: THis is on top of my "Real Job" as a therapist! I cannot call any of my jobs adult like though...b/c I play to much while there...I get paid to play with kids and hang out with teens...as a therapist!:) And I dress up like all kinds of crazy fun characters when I dance or act in a show!
