Wk Of Nov 18 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi Everyone-

Another beautiful day in Atlanta. Hard to believe the forcast is 100% chance of rain for tomorrow. Unfortunately, it will be just enough rain to ruin a race but not enough to make a dent in the drought. MAybe everyone else will stay home and I will win the race! :lmao:

Shan - Can you wrap the jacket around your waist if you need to? I do that alot of the time. I am planning on wearing tights then a thin thin long sleeve tech shirt, purple singlet and my mesh running jacket over. Then if I need to, I can peel off the white shirt and or the jacket. Yes, I can peel off a long sleeve shirt from under a singlet while running! I am so talented.

Glad the new shoes are working out! Think about possibly going for a long walk during your week off. A week is a long time to take off and even one midweek walk could help keep you ready to start your half marathon training.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Cecilia

:cool1:  :thumbsup2 STACIE!!!!! I'm so proud of you girl!!!! That's a great accomplishment...and you deserve to be proud of yourself.

I'm sorry to hear about your legs though :(. Take care of yourself...hopefully the new sneakers will help! Don't forget to ice the legs though ;).

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TEAM!!!!!!

I hope everyone has a lovely holiday! :goodvibes

I probably won't be around here much today.
I have lots to do and I am finally going to the doc about this cough I have had since before ToT a month ago! So...

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

Thanks Amy! You are cooking for 15 people!!! Brave woman! :goodvibes

Kelley--Hope your LR goes well! 95 is horrible for Holiday Travel. We live just off 95 in NC and it just stays packed!

Stephanie--Glad to hear your back is feeling better! I have arthritis in my knee from a broken leg a few years ago and I can definately tell a difference when the weather changes!

RedDragon and Princess--SNOW!!! I'd love to see SNOW!!! It used to snow here a few time each winter in good ole' NC, but lately--NOTHING!

Shan--Hope you have a fun run tomorrow!!!

Peace out y'all! :upsidedow

OK, this may be a stupid question, but what do you pin your number to then if you are wearing all those layers??? Especially if you plan on taking things off?

The 10K doesn't start until 8:45, I see your planning on wearing more than me for your half, which I'm sure starts way earlier... DH keeps telling me I'm gonna burn up in that jacket I bought, but it seems so light weight and if I'm wearing the thin singlet underneath??? Really, I just don't know! I've only ran one race before and it was hot, plus I never really run in the rain except for drizzle... I feel clueless!

I'll take your advice and walk during my week off. I did ice both my feet last night. I think it helped. Then again I might have to go out and run at least a couple miles... :rolleyes1

Have fun tomorrow - maybe the rain will wait for us.

OK, pulled up the weather again. It says thunderstorms and a temp of 60 for race time. So would the running skort, singlet and mesh running rain jacket work? Opinions? I can't believe I'm gonna say this since we're in a drought, but I wish it wouldn't rain tomorrow. :sad2: I'm bad, I know. :lmao:

Greetings Team -

Today was a rest day so I had 45 extra minutes of Zzzzzs. :goodvibes

Jen - Yes! All us Judiths are way cool! :cool2: Hee hee.

Mel - Do you think Bill's zig zagging made the cop think he was "RWI" ??? :drinking1

EloquentPanda - Thank you for your kind words, but I have a question. Does "family" have to include the mother-in-law?? :headache:

Stacie - Wow, great advice from your dad! :thumbsup2 YAY to you for your success this morning! And I'm not just talking about your training. I mean the getting up so early part too! I know that's not easy! :woohoo:

Shan - There are no stupid questions. ;) Some people pin their numbers to their shorts but I've never done that. I've always pinned it on the bottom layer shirt so I don't have to worry about it as I start taking things off. It's never been an issue at the start. No one has ever said "Hey, where's your number?"

I'm leaving work early today so I don't know that I'll be around much until Monday I have 8 miles on tap for Saturday. I really hope it's nice out, but just in case, I took several movies out from the library last night.

Thanksgiving dinner out with the kiddies and in-laws tomorrow.

Happy and safe Thanksgiving to everyone!

Hello, WISHers!

I have been a slacker this week so I haven't shown my face around here. I haven't exactly been sick but I haven't exactly been 100% either, so I took a couple days off. Today I finally went to the Y and did a tempo run on the dreadmill and felt pretty good, so I think I'm back on track.

Tomorrow after getting the turkey in the oven I'll take DD and go for a 5 miler -- nice and slow. Then we'll have to come back and play the boys in the annual turkey bowl (which the GIRLS won last year!). Today I'm going to do some XT by taking the kids clothes shopping. I refuse to go shopping Friday! I think my blood pressure would go through the roof.

Sorry I've let this thread get away from me and can't respond, but I promise I read it all. Sounds like lots of good training happening.

Good luck to all the Turkey Trotters; PD for all the injuries; and when you run this weekend remember to be thankful that you can! Every step is a blessing as far as I'm concerned -- even in the BMZ.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Renee

Haven't posted but I have been running!

We're travelling so much right now, NH last week, NY this week, that I missed a couple of days so I am repeating week 3 of my 5K training schedule.

Ran yesterday with a friend and he had a hard time staying with me! We ran in the snow and it was so beautiful! If you had told me 10 years ago, or even 5 that I would be running regularly, in the cold, and liking it...:rotfl2:

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Good luck to all those who are running tomorrow!

Shan, it takes awhile to figure out what all works for running in rain. I've found that jacket or no jacket, you are going to get wet. If 60 deg is too warm, especially for a jacket, I'd just wear a short sleeve or a long sleeve moisture wicking top (just make sure it isn't white for obvious reasons). Have clothes to change into at the end. If it is raining I like to wear a hat, but otherwise I wouldn't worry about the jacket if it is going to be too warm. I don't think it would make too much of a difference regardless.

Good luck in your 10K!

Shan, another thing to remember...put Body Glide EVERYWHERE! I've run in the rain a couple of times. The places I normally would not have put Body Glide definitely needed it...underarms, sports bra band..(sorry guys!). But I guess that would be only if you ditched the rain jacket... ;)

Anne not to worry Darlin, I have forgot to apply the glide and got chub rub places I really didn't want it. See this is a well guarded secret so don't tell anyone, "That's why we fellows scratch there, not bad manners, we just forgot the darn body glide".

Ok I'm off to drink beer and kill animals and other man stuff! Burp!

Greetings Everyone:

Well, I ran Monday and Tuesday this week, and I'm planning on running today but it is rainy and nasty out there. Thick, thick clouds out there all day. I kept thinking they'd break, but it sure doesn't look like it. I may just run on the TM a little bit today. I'm trying to build up to 5 days/week running.

I wanted to WISH everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, and to travel safely. I'm very thankful for my WISH teammates. You have all been such a support for me this year. Happy Holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my WISH teammates!! Among the many blessings I will count will be the wonderful people here who provide endless inspiration and encouragement! :grouphug:

Hi Shan!!

Here's the skinny for tomorrow from my viewpoint. It's only a 60% chance of rain and it decreases from 9am on...so we may get lucky. I'm more concerned that it's going to be 60 degrees with 90% humidity. The humidity is the thing to worry about IMO. I'm planning on taking a post-race change of clothes and towel. For the race, I'm simply wearing what I'd wear during a 65-70 degree run (factor in that humidity!)...a t-shirt and shorts.

You are going to get wet regardless of what you are wearing if it rains, so just be comfortable...and like someone said, white is not the best option during the rainy runs :)

Most important thing: Relax and have a great time!!

Also, don't forget you can pick up your packets tonight at the church from 3-7 (they have a pasta dinner there too for $5)...eliminates some chaos in the morning :)

Have fun, enjoy the race and be sure to let us know how it went!!

Well, no training for me today. I officially have "bronchitis with wheezing." I also have steriods  and anitbiotics. Ugh. I hate prednizone!!! I eat everything in sight & gain weight on that stuff. But, I guess being able to breathe and not hack up a lung all day is kind of important.

I am also guessing that I probably should stop the walking/running until the prednisone kicks in. I'll start it today, and get back to it Friday.

Oh, Kristi, sweetie! Take care of yourself!
Stephanie, was it you that was saying your back hurt? (I'm sorry -- I am lurking so much and having a hard time making time for important stuff like the DIS!) Please take it easy, and be sure to take rest breaks on your long trip.
sending hugs and pixie dust and goodvibes to all our ill and/or injured teammates. pixiedust: :goodvibes

Oh, and Shan -- we are running in 60 degrees and rain tomorrow, too. I plan on a black wicking tee shirt and my wicking capris. I'll take my rainjacket but probably won't wear it (its my WDW 1/2marathon one, bright yellow). I'm with scott on a clean, dry set of clothes in the car. Oh, and a plastic trash bag to sit on in the car.

Kelley -- I really admire your discipline in coming up with a plan to get your miles in. I hope your DH will be patient and that the drive won't be as bad as you fear!

Kristi Hope you feel better soon. Be careful with the steroids, you don't want to become the Barry Bonds of the WDW half marathon. Kudos for at least being forth coming about your performance enhancing drug use.:thumbsup2
