Wk Of Nov 18 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi everyone!

I completed my 8 mile "pull back week" run today...wasn't feeling completely 100% but did manage to complete it in 1:10 for a solid 8:50 pace.

Now I turn my focus to the Thanksgiving day Gobble Jog 10k where I am hoping to PR....then it will be back on track to complete Goofy training :goodvibes:

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hey crazy marathoners...what's up? ;)

So today was a nice step-back for me...8 miles. I had a solid run and felt pretty strong today :). Finished in 1:16 for a nice 9:30 pace! Not too bad. Let's hope I can pick up the pace this Thursday for the annual Thanksgiving 8K. I'm hoping to PR and finish in under 45. We'll see...weather is looking a bit rough though. Today was a little...ummm..SNOWY for my run?!?! WTH??? But I'll take cool over hot any day :).

Great weekend of training thus far for everyone! Very impressive team!

Scott...NICE pace!!! :goodvibes Great job with the run today. GOOD LUCK on that turkey day race. I bet you PR! :thumbsup2

Stephanie...Great pace today! How is your ankle feeling? Hope it's feeling great tonight despite the long day :).

SilverE...Dang...Awesome pace! Nice work on that 5K :).

Steve F.....Awesome weekend...LR and long bike!!! great job :)

Cecelia...Congrats to you and your DD. Very impressive pace for a 9 year old!!!!

SilverE: Where was the Turkey Trot. You will have to keep me up on these things. I would have come down and done it with you. I am all for the 5Ks these days, I did 7 miles on Saturday and it nearly killed me...:rotfl: or was that the 2 hours catching for my daughter earlier in the day? :lmao:

Anyway, good job everyone on the runs this weekend. I am just in maintenance until December so I am jealous. Still considering Minnie if air goes down just a squeak. I am on for 40 minutes today but where I squeeze it in becomes an issue, so we will see.

Happy pre-Thanksgiving everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!popcorn::

Morning all. Thankfully, working yesterday was a lot less stressful than Saturday. But my poor legs can hardly stand it, 11 miles and then on my feet for 8 more hours. I was dog tired when I got home. Ankle is feeling fine--thanks for asking. Maybe it was just a weird weather-changing deal.

Hey, any of our Houston/S. Texas WISHers running the Houston Turkey Trot on Thurs? The family is headed to the Lone Star State for Thanksgiving, and I noticed this race on Active.com last night. DH is still not convinced that getting up at 5:30am on Thanksgiving day is his idea of a good time!;)

Lou--Congrats on the finish. :cool1: I need to go check the race report thread!

Amybeth--Snow??? I knew there was a reason I loved the south;)

Steve--great job on the run and yay that the knee was okay! Oh, and How 'bout them Browns!:cheer2:

All-righty, need to get the kidlets out of bed and dressed. Working at the gym again today--luckily this is my last day of work until after the Holiday weekend. Can't come soon enough (this stay at home mom worked more than 40 hrs. last week)!

Cecilia, congrats to your DD! :cheer2:

My oldest DD is also 9 and wanted to do the Girls on the Run program at school this year, but it was the same day as dance. I hope it works out next year - I'd love to have her running with me! Very cool!

Lou, congrats!!! :woohoo:

I need some advice. After my 16 mile LR on saturday, I took my ice bath and then iced my knees. I felt great for about 3 hours, then nausea set in. Normally on my LR days I could eat all day long and on sat I didn't want to eat. Do you think I was dehydrated? That is what I thought, so I kept trying to drink lots of water. The nausea finally subsided yesterday afternoon.

What do you think? Any advice? I don't want to feel like that again after a LR.

Becky

Becky, I get nauseated after a LR if I drink too much water, especially if it is ice water. I think you were probably dehydrated but there may be something else going on too. :confused3

Good morning Team.

This is cut back week for Erica and I we are heading out for our long LSD walk of 10 miles. It will be nice to only do 10.

We have a nice day for it temp wise but it's looking kind of rainy.

What do you guys think about this: (or am I supposed to say, "Hey y'all watch this").

We keep the current miles challange going till Dec 31st. Before then have a thread for signing up for a team miles competition for 2008. Each team would post their miles on their team thread. The other team members can visit and comment on the other team threads and talk a little good natured trash, maintaining good manners.

The competition would run through 2008 and there will be prizes for the winning team. It's hard to stay motivated all during the year and doing a team competition can help. You will get your steps in so you don't let the team down.

Once the teams are formed, new members can be added at any time since the forum is open to all and we don't have any closed doors. We would just add to each team equally when a new member wants to join.

Each team will have a captain and each team will pick a name for their team. The captain will be blamed for any misconduct by their team. Of course wild parties and staying up to late will not be acceptable. Beer drinking and those nasty frozen drinks will be banned. And no team member will ever never post on their thread when they are not dressed in a socially acceptable manner.

Sign me up, I LOVE it when someone else gets blamed for my behavior lapses!! :lmao:

I have to say that the challenge over the weekend certainly did keep me motivated and made me feel like I was making a difference by doing my meager mileage. The team concept will work for me cuz I am all about the team!!!!!!!!!! :cheer2:

Lisa, thanks. This was actually the most water I have ever had during a run, but it was also my longest run. I drank my whole water bottle and then stopped at the bathrooms along the golf course and filled it up with tap water (and hoped it wouldn't be too disgusting). I drank about half the second bottle.

SilverE: Where was the Turkey Trot. You will have to keep me up on these things. I would have come down and done it with you. I am all for the 5Ks these days.

The 5K was the Hannaford Turkey Trot in Cape Elizabeth. It is always held the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving.

If you are looking for an upcoming 5K, there is a "Jingle Bell" run in Freeport on Sun. December 2nd: freeportjinglebellrun2007.kintera.org. I haven't decided if I'm doing that one yet (although they do have long-sleeved T-shirts.)

Happy training.

I will keep fingers crossed that this is the problem and not something else. I find if I drink my bottle during a LR (7 miles +) and then just sip water after that, it works better for me. Two times I drank my bottle and then guzzled 2 glasses of water when I got home (mine is spring fed so it is ALWAYS icy cold) and I had to lay on the floor for a half hour both times until the nausea and gurgling stopped. After that, I just spread the rest of my water out throughout the day. Maybe even some electrolytes in your water bottle during the run could help too?? :confused3 I saw some PowerAde flavor packets the other day that could work (especially on the refill of the questionable water!! :scared: ). Good luck!!!

Hmmmm, Freeport is an hour from me...when does the race start? DD has a birthday party that day but not until 3 p.m. :rolleyes1

Becky most bottled water is tap water. They just had a special on Good Morning America about that. Aquafina was busted by the media.

I have no chance of ever being tagged by the TagFairy either. He/she/it avoids my posts. The tag Fairy thinks "I'm a little touched", as the redneck expression goes for those who "Just ain't right".

Ha! How bout that? The water tasted fine, but the water from my kitchen sink is nasty!

It took me quite a while to get my tag. I think the tag fairy doesn't frequent the WISH boards.

I am on board for the mileage challenge! I think it's a great idea! Maybe just what I need to keep motivated!!!!

Hello Everyone!

Guess what the weather forcast is for Atanta on Thursday? RAIN! Just great! We go months with no rain and the only day its gonna rain is on a race day! ARGH!

Today is another rest day for me. I can tell I am still not 100% and this is supposed to be a huge mileage week. My coach and my Dh convinced me to cut out one of my shorter runs so it won't be as huge as I had planned.

Becky - Sometimes nausea is your body's way of forcing you to rest and it has no cause other than exhaustion. Dehydration usually causes a headache but it can also cause nausea. Another factor to consider is blood sugar. Low blood sugar often causes nausea and its easy to get after a long run. Especially if you only drank water. Did you eat something immediately after your LR?

Have a great day everyone!
Cecilia

Cecilia: If it makes you feel any better about your rain....we are due for snow on Thursday!!! (Actually, it is :cool1: for me, cuz I love snow)
