Wk of May 27--WISH Running/Walking Club

Hey all. My allergies are still really bad. My sinuses are stuffed to the max! Tonight I plan to hit the TM while DD's have swim class. I haven't gotten into running much since the 1/2... but since that was just one week ago, I'm not too worried. I spent most of my weekend gardening, so at least I wasn't totally lazy!

Kristi -That is awesome for your sister. Maybe she will bring you????

Dave and Dave - Wow, I would love to be at the point where 20 miles a week was normal. I guess when I start training for the full, it will be??

Krista - I pray your sister is OK!!!! Keep us posted.

Have a great day everyone. I should be busy today, if I get my butt in gear at work!

Hi all! Quick post today as I've got lots waiting for me. I did XT today - biking and weights at the Y. I don't do any weights with my legs as it really affects my running (and not in a good way); just arms and core.

Krista - Prayers for your sister. Let us know how it goes!

Happy training, all!
Renee

I think you just made my day. I was on the fence about doing it in 2008 but definitely wanted to plan for 2009 so I guess I'll just register now. This was good to know.

Megan

Megan, you are able to defer your entry until 2009, which basically gets you a "guaranteed entry", you must pay the registration fee again. Also you must notify them ahead of time (I'm thinking sometime in November??) that you plan to defer. You still lose your entry fee either way.

Hey team!!!!!

I need some advice. Just noticed that the 1/2 is at 95% and we haven't booked yet....uugghhh. I was wondering if I missed the registration for the 1/2 would I have enough time to train for the full??? Ihaven't done anything since the 15K in May.

What do you think?? Is there time???

Thanks

Kim

Kim - Kim, you do have enough time to start training for the full. Looking at Jeff Galloway's new marathon training program he has online, the marathon is on week 30. You would start the training program the week of June 18 I believe. Check out his schedule to see what it is like:
http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/marathon.html

Training for a full marathon requires a lot more out of your body. If you want to tackle the full, I say go for it. But if you are sitting on the fence maybe try to get in on the half before it closes?

You did build up a base training for Minnie, but I would encourage you to start walking again to make sure you don't lose too much of that fitness base.

Laurie - Congrats on your race last weekend.

Maria - Were you running at the beach?!

Sara - What a 20miler. It sounds like you are going to do great!!

Mel - Those waterfalls look amazing. I can't wait until my kids are older and we can go do things like that.

Vic - How adorable. We have a yellow and chocolate. They are such a handful aren't they?!

Dave - That pic of Erica and the Dog racing is just too cute!!

Well I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!! I sure did. We went down to the Magic Kingdom on Sunday and spent the day there. Then hung out cleaning the house all day yesterday. Today was my first run for the week, and it went pretty well. I have decided to train using a mix of Jeff Galloway and marathontraining.com. After thinking about it the plan on marathontraining.com was great, but..... you were running 4-5 times a week. In theory that's great, but I can't always guarantee that I will be able to schedule that. I like the fact that the mileage builds up though. So I will use a Galloway type pla (3days a week) and just up the mileage during the week a bit more. So today I ran 4 miles in 35:03 (avg 8:45 mpm) Then I ran another 1.4 miles with DS6 at a 14:30 mpm. He is doing so good. We ran for 20 minutes at a r1/w1. I can't wait to see how well he is doing as he increases his running time, and he is really excited about running this race.

Last night I got in 45 minutes of weight training. It was a great workout. Tonight I have 4.5 miles scheduled. I noticed on the Calgary Road Runners website that Team Penguin is encouraging new folks to come out for their Tuesday night runs. I might try to join them this evening.

Krista - Prayers and :wizard: for your sister. Please keep us updated. I hope all goes well with her. My mom and dad do live in Indonesia. They have been out there for about 2.5 years now. I haven't seen Pirates yet, but hoping to catch it this Sunday. Too bad you didn't enjoy it! I still think the first movie was the best (as is most always the case...).

Vic - Very handsome boys! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Dave - Great picture as well!

Lily - That is wonderful about all the compliments you received. It is nice to know all the hard work has paid off!

Stephanie - Hope you like your new skirt!

Dave - Great pace on your speedwork! I haven't added speed training into my routine yet. I do get to tackle some good hills around my neighbourhood, but I'm thinking of doing an actual hill training session this Thursday. So far I've just been jogging, no other specific workout.

Kristi - Wow, your sister does have good luck! I thought about catching her here in town, but I have a friend from university coming through town that evening so it won't work out. I did get tickets to see Nickelback with Daughtry and Puddle of Mud in July though!:yay:

Jen - I hope those allergies of yours start to feel better.

Renee - Good job on the XT.

Kim--I agree with Leana, a full marathon is a totally different beast than a half marathon. If you think can commit yourself to training for a full, than awesome, but if you aren't sure, than I say either hurry up and sign up for the half or maybe pick another half marathon that isn't so close to closing. 26.2 miles is a long distance and you have to respect that distance, it isn't something that you can go out and do on a whim. Good luck deciding!

Leana--That is so cool about your Mom and Dad living in Indonesia. Why did they pick to live there? Are they missionaries? I don't know how you can live so far away from your parents, last summer, Stephen and I were seriously considering moving to NJ, but I didn't think I could live 12 hours from my Mom and Dad!! :) Pirates was okay, not as great at the first though.

I just talked to my Mom, my sister's surgery is scheduled for 11:00, so she's actually going back right now. The cardiologist said that regardless if she has to get the stent or not, they will release her to go home today. She will be going to my parents house as my brother in-law will be working during the day and she won't be able to take care of the kids by herself--she has a 13 year old, an 8 year old, and a 1 year old. Also, she won't have any incisions on her chest as they are taking the balloon up through an incision in her groin. Pretty amazing stuff!!

Thank you for the encouragement but I bit the bullet and registered myself and DH for the 1/2.....OMG!!!!!! What did I do.....:scared1:

Do they send you anything for the marathon weekend??? I have my confirmation but is that it???

Time to get training again and back chatting with you all. After I go back and catch up with all the posts....

Kim

Greetings all.

What a weekend! How can I have three days off and not get anything done? Yet, I'm exhausted! :confused3

I did 3.1 miles on Saturday morning to get ready for yesterday's race. I posted about that on the Race thread. It went very well! :thumbsup2

WWDave - Welcome to the "You ain't right" Club. I am the charter member. Who put Vic in charge this week anyway??

YAY Lily's back! We missed you!

Mel - Wow, great pictures! I'm glad you're back. Did you put Vic in charge? :rotfl:

Minnie - YAY for registering! :woohoo: I found it tremendously motivating to be registered for the Half.

Vic - Oh what cute pups! I'm sorry but Dusty just does not look like a "Bad To The Bone" type of dog. :rolleyes1

Krista - Thinking of Shari this morning.... :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Krista - So you're saying that having your legs up in the air is XT? Honey, I ain't touching that one! :lmao: So, who's your sister taking with her??? :rolleyes1

BTW, I would just like to say, I ran yesterday for all those vets and those currently in the military who can no longer run...

Kim - Way to go on registering for the half!! I think you made a good choice. We'll see you again in January. To answer your question:

"In the official race program, to be mailed to all registered runners in late October, participants will receive an official race number pick-up card and athlete waiver. All runners must bring the pick-up card, signed waiver, and photo I.D. and present them at the Expo in order to receive a race packet."

Krista - My dad is an engineer in the oil industry (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...so am I). He had actually retired and was offered this position and it sounded like a good opportunity. We used to live overseas for most of the time while I was growing up, so the international move didn't phase them at all. I left Canada when I was three, then came back for two years of high school - between that we had been in Australia, England, and South America. In fact we had spent a year in Indonesia already, back when I was in grade 11. It is tough being away from the folks, but when I finished university I wound up moving to Texas - almost as far away from Canada as you can get and still be in North America! We talk frequently though, and we are definitely a close family.

Thanks leana I look forward to seeing everyone again. I looked online to verify our registration but they are only showing those up till May 20th.

We are considering stay at POP. I thought I read somewhere that there was a big group also registered at POP not relating to the marathon does anyone know if that was correct info?? Sorry can't remember where I read it.

I can't get over how excited I am about this now. I guess since I have done 1 disney race I know how wonderful and exciting they are and can't wait. And of course seeing you all again and meeting others for the first time.

Since I have been away for the boards for a bit has there been anything planned for that weekend?? We haven't decided what days we will be coming in, either Thurs to Monday or Friday till Tues.....

Kim

Kim -

I think maybe you are thinking of the BMXers staying at Pop during the ToT13k weekend? :confused3

:confused3 Oh maybe that was it.....yikes....first thing that goes is the memory right :rotfl:

Great cause I really wanted to stay at POP.

Kim

Hi, everyone! No training to report from this weekend, but I'd like to think all the running around and dancing might count for XT.

Krista -- your sister is in my prayers.
Mel -- awesome, awesome pix. I am so glad your family had that wonderful experience and the time together.
Vic -- the boys are adorable!

Life is so crazy right now. :scared: UGH! It's all been fun, but a bit much, and I spent yesterday mostly being a vegetable when I should have been productive. I thought several times about going out wogging, but was so exhausted and it was so hot out and I knew it would be a tough work week, so I didn't want to end up really wiped out. I do have good reason for not getting out there in the past 5 days, though:

Thursday night -- we met with the kitchen designer for more than 3 hours. Lots of exciting ideas  but so much more work and so many more decisions left to be made before 7+ weeks of demolition/ construction will start in August. I have a feeling I will gladly escape the house to train in August and September!

Friday -- our friend arrived who is visiting from Australia. :cloud9: I got stuck at work and couldn't get to the airport to pick her up, but got home in time for dinner and to see her off to visit other friends in the Northeast

Saturday -- we didnt' get to do the Spring Lake 5 because of our friends' daughter's Bat Mitzvah. :sad1: We drove to Princeton NJ and sat in Synagogue for 3+ hours then attended the luncheon. After that we drove to Toms River NJ to visit friends and went from there to another friend's house to see more people, including our friends with the new baby who were visiting. Back to Toms River where we spent the night. Andy and I went to church with our friend on Sunday and got to hear her play hand bells in her bell choir. Then home to change, off to a teeball game with friends that live nearby. Back to our friends' house for a barbecue. Change clothes again for Bat Mitzvah reception back in Princeton, drove 1.25 hours to reception which was more elaborate than any wedding reception I've ever been to. We had an awesome time and stayed 6pm - almost 11:30 (does dancing count for xt?) then arrived home close to 1 am when I had to do my crunches & pushups before falling into bed (yesterday was 21 days in a row of 100 crunches & 100 push-ups). I figured out I wore 6 different sets of clothes in 24 hours--pjs I woke up in Sunday a.m., church clothes, shorts & tee shirt for teeball & barbecue, party clothes for Bat Mitzvah reception, workout clothes for crunches, etc at 1a.m., fresh pjs to go to sleep Sunday night/Monday morning.

Yesterday was just paperwork and grocery shopping and cooking huge amounts of food to have for the week, but I am still utterly exhausted. We never made it to PoC3, either, as I'd promised the kids. Maybe next weekend. . . I am kind of glad that people aren't raving about how awesome it was, but we are all still really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.

Andrew is in finals this week and is also taking his high school math placement exam today. Our Aussie friend returns Thursday and will stay until we take her to the airport to fly back to AU on Sunday. Howard's mom arrives next Wednesday to stay for a week and be here for Andy's graduation; special olympics prep and summer games is Thursday - Saturday (3 16+ hour days in a row); Andy's graduation and the party at our house are Sunday. :upsidedow Then, things will calm down a bit. Getting through June 10 will require mega-vitamins. :rolleyes1 LOL! That will also be about 9 weeks before the CDC and I am really hoping we will be able to settle into a solid training routine by then.

Really, though, the one thing I regret is that training is taking the hit. And, not only have I fallen off the diet wagon, it has rolled over me and backed over me several times. ;) I just have nothing to give it right now.

Each day I thank God for this healthy, strong body, but I also feel an obligation to Him to make the most of this gift He has given me, when so many others suffer. So, I will make time, and gather energy and get out there. :goodvibes The funny thing is, I get here during the day and get all re-charged and revved by the enthusiasm and discipline of my WISH friends and teammates, :yay: and yet am a hostage at my desk! I'll be back later for another fix before coaxing myself the gym instead of to home for an early to bed night. ;)

HI all! It's your lucky day! My head is foggy, so I'll keep this brief. ;)

Mel & Lily - Welcome bacck! We missed you!

Vic - Thanks fr ocovering for mel!

Mel - Thanks for starting this thread every week!

Krista - Prayers fo Shari. She is wayy too young ofr this. Scary that the Paxil may be the cause. :wizard: for your IT bands!!!

Oh, forgot to post about me.

DId the bridge run. Went better than expected. Had a good rest of teh weekend. WIll post more details when my brain fog clears.

Did I mention my brain was foggy? Forgot to answer skirt question.

Stephanie - I need compression pants for chub rub. So, it's gymgirl for me. Haven't tried the others. OK, not much help.:confused3

Carrie, Congrats on the bridge run

Cam: You have such a wonderful outlook on life, you have the most postive attitude of anyone I have ever met.

Krista: I hope all goes well with your sister. I haven't read all the posts so not exactly sure what surgury she is having but I send her lots of pixie dust:wizard:

Have I said how excited I am to finally be booked!!!!!:woohoo:

Megan, you are able to defer your entry until 2009, which basically gets you a "guaranteed entry", you must pay the registration fee again. Also you must notify them ahead of time (I'm thinking sometime in November??) that you plan to defer. You still lose your entry fee either way.

Yes, but at least there is some benefit to registering this time around. I'm thinking I'll know for sure in the next couple of months if I'm going to be able to fit in a trip for then but I don't want to have it all full before I register. Time to bite the bullet.
