Wk of May 27--WISH Running/Walking Club

After 3 days off (unless you count walking around amusement parks and water parks as cross training) I finally got back to it. I did 60 minutes this morning; I don't know the distance as I'm Garmin-less. I did some streets and some greenway. Hilly, but it wasn't too hot outside yet.

Laurie and Leana - Congrats on your great races!
Maria - Running outside is addicting. Much better than the treadmill!
Sara - Happy tapering!
Mel - Great photos! We love camping in the NC mountains.
Minnie - Good for you! See you in January!
Dave - I spent some time on my run thinking of our military heroes, including my grandfather. Good reminder!

Happy training, all!
Renee

Took a few pics of the boys this morning. :)

Here they are sporting their bandanas from Disney World. Earnhardt's says, "My human went to Walt Disney World and all I got was this lousy bandana." Dusty's says, "Bad to the Bone."

Earnhardt being a butt.

Vic - Dusty looks EXACTLY the same in both pics. What a goof!

Leana - Way to run that 5.5K. I loved the pics.

Minnie - Glad you signed up! I plan to do the FULL, but think I am nuts. I guess I better speed up my walking and length!

Mel - Those pics are awesome. So glad you had a great time.

I did a lot of outdoor work, weed pulling mostly. I attempted to run on the TM yesterday but my allergies were rotten. My legs felt good, but I couldn't breathe. So I quit after 30 minutes.

Good looking pups there Vic. Here is a pic of our chocolate lab and Erica doing a race. We always buy the dog, Ayla Brown Beast, a race number so people won't fuss about bringing a dog to a race.

We did a nice 6 mile LSD today, it was very pleasent but the humidity was the worst so far this year. Oh well welcome to summer in Ky. I have to be acclimated to race in the humidity anyway so might as well enjoy it.

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Just doing a drive by to say I am still alive!

I am working out with my T-Tapp DVD's---going to get some muscles in shape in the next week or so and then hit the treadmill once again. (Only b/c I want to see if just doing the DVD's has some kind of impact on my running :)).

I'll be walk-running the half with my sis and run-walking the full with the hubby....

Right now I am cross training by trying to kick his rear into high gear.:lmao:

Okay--not literally!

Happy Memorial Day everyone!!! A big thanks to all the men and women who have fought and are fighting for our country! I can't do a hat's off, so I'll do this instead: :dance3:. Well, I took a week off from running and I really felt it this morning when I ran 3 miles. The itself was okay, I purposely went a little slow, but now my IT band on my left leg is aching--that's my good leg!! GRRR!! I wonder if I've been focusing so much on my right leg, that my left leg is getting jealous?? :confused3 It looks like it's back to more cross training and less running for me, I want to nip this in the bud before it becomes a huge problem. Stephen and I just signed up for a membership to Gold's Gym, we're both pretty excited about it. It's in a much more convenient location for me than the Community Center we belonged to and the equipment is SO much better there. It's all Life Fitness or Precor brand and there were so many treadmills and ellipticals--probably over 100. At the Community Center they had maybe 9 ellipticals, about 12 treadmills, and only 3 stationary bikes. Our jaws dropped when we saw just how much equipment there was. I'm really excited to go there tomorrow and work out.

Minnie--Congrats on signing up for the marathon!! How exciting!! :cheer2: Stephen and I still haven't signed up, I need to put that on my things to do this week.

Vic--The boys are so handsome! I love that 2nd picture of Earnhardt--he looks as rotten as Hines is!! We just got back from picking up Hines at Petsmart for his grooming. I will gladly pay $25 for them to fight with him over getting a bath!!

Mel--It sounds like you had an awesome vacation! I love the Great Smokey Mountains, we're about 5 hours from the TN side and my family used to always vacation there.

Leana--Congrats on your race! Does your Mom live in Indonesia?

Renee--Great run!!

Sara--Congrats on the taper!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: That's a great time!!

Lisa--I still can't believe you are doing Goofy less than a year after giving birth. You are incredible. Or crazy!

Angie--I thought about you yesterday when we were at Gold's Gym and they were showing us the BodyPump room. And then I heard what goes in a typical class--you must be in excellent shape!! And rock solid. WOW!!! Those classes sound hard!

Stephanie--I'm glad you are having a nice time in TX! Here's for safe travels home! :wizard:

Anyone see Pirates yet? We went Friday night, I gotta say (I hate saying this) but I was NOT impressed. I'm taking my nephew to see probably this weekend, hopefully I'll like it better the second time around.

I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend! Happy Running!!!

Krista, Good for you and your new gym membership. I can say that the XT I am able to get at our gym is well worth it. I have not been since Minnie/Pig weekend though. I WISH that your IT problems can be resolved by the XT you will be getting.

Lisa, glad you are still taking steps toward January. I hope that XT with DH is not too difficult. ;)

Suzy, Great that you've signed up. WISHing that you will be healthy enough to participate.

Vic, nice pics of "The Boys."

Dave, nice pic of the pup and DW.

Mel beautiful vaca pics. Thanks for sharing.

I am planning to get back in it all with tomorrow. Work will be swell after vaca, and gym will be a welcome thing. I MUST reduce what I've added. It was nice today at our neighbor's picnic when one of the folks who have not seen me for a bit noticed that I've changed my looks. She said lost weight, I say it's more of a change/tone thing that happened. Lots of work, and well worth getting compliments from people.

Hope all had a fantastic weekend and a fantastic week to come.

Good evening everyone.

Tonight was upper body. Felt good. I think I’ll give the ol foot another week and then get back to it.

Renee – WTG with the 60 mins.

Jenn – Sorry your allergies are acting up. Dusty knew he had a treat waiting for him, and a treat always makes him smile. :rotfl:

Dave – Great pic of the DW and pup.

Lisa – Hey!

Krista – Sorry about your IT band. Golds gym, cool! The boys get their baths at the kennel and their nails cut at the vet. If I try to either it looks like a WWE wrestling match. :rotfl:

Lily – The boys thank you for the compliment. :)

I just thought I'd add a reminder to our WISH Team who might be wanting the really cool team hat. Don't forget to put in you order on the other thread.

I finally got to do mine.

I just talked to my Mom and wanted to ask everyone to pray for or think about my sister Shari tomorrow. She has been in and out of the hospital because of high blood pressure for the past 3-4 weeks. On Friday she was having chest pains and numbness in her arms, so she went back to the hospital, thankfully the hospital she went to transferred her to Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY, as I've heard they have a very good cardiology program. They've been running tests on her and found some blockage in her arteries and some problems with her kidneys. Tomorrow she is having an angiogram--I think, the one where they blow the balloon through the arteries, if they are able to get the blockage cleared with that, then she will be released, but if not they are going to put a stent in her heart. They are also doing something with her kidneys tomorrow, but I don't know what. Please pray for complete healing and I will keep everyone posted as I hear. Thanks everyone!!!

Also, if anyone is on Paxsil, I would talk to your doctor, the cardiologist she is working with thinks this may be caused by Paxsil.

Well, we made it back from the Lone Star State late this afternoon. We were supposed to be back by 2--but after a 2 1/2 hour delay due to weather:headache: it was dinner time before we got home. Tomorrow it's back to the gym with me. Need to work off all this food I ate this weekend.

Krista--sending lots of prayers your way for your sister adn the whole family. Is this the sister that had surgery just recently??? Hoping the procedure works well tomorrow and they won't have to perform anything more drastic.

And a big :cheer2: and Thank you to all our men and women who are presently or who have served our country.

Well, no formal training to report on from the last two days! Been too busy. DBF and I did walk to the local parade and back today, which amounted to about a mile and half walking, so I guess I can count that!!

Leana-great job on your race!

Minnie--WTG for signing up for the half! Hope you can be there with us in Jan!

Renee--Walking around amusement parks is definetely XT!!!

Mel--love the pictures! Looks like you had an amazing trip!

Vic--love the pictures of the boys! Love the name also "Earnhardt" Did you watch the race last night? Pretty good race, Jr. did pretty well. DBF is a huge Casey Mears fan, so he was so excited last night!!

Jen-Hope the allergies get better soon! Thankfully, mine have not been so bad this year.

Krista--sorry to hear about the IT pain...hope that gets better really soon. Enjoy the Gold's Gym membership, if it is anything like our local Gold's it is really nice!! Also, my thoughts and prayers are with your sister this week! I hope all goes well...:wizard:

I hope everyone has a great week!!!

Laurie, I watched the F1, Indy 500 (until the it rained), and the Coca Cola 600 yesterday. I was pretty much raced out by the time I went to bed (Bestest racing day of the year).

Glad to see Casey get his first win. I ordered his diecast car today. :)

The boys, they're a couple of knuckle heads.

Hey--quick question for all ya'll gals that have ordered from Skirtsports. My MIL gave me some $$$ to buy a skirt and I can't decide between the Marathongirl and the Rollergirl--Anyone have a fav?? Or a reason to get one and not the other??

Well I finally made it back from my trip and might stand a chance of getting caught up in the next month or so. Lynnda was ready to string me alive since Billy had the rotovirus while I was gone. It definately wasn't a pleasant time for her.

I did get a run and a stationary bike ride in during the trip but nothing too exciting. Last night I got out and did 4 miles at a 10:49 pace. It was still a little too warm but at least the bugs weren't out this time.

Vic - The boys look good and also look like they get their way around the house.

Krista - Glad you had a good trip. You mean there is a lab out there that doesn't like the water. Our golden now tolerates his baths but I think he still looks for the opportunity to get me as wet as he can. We will be remembering your sister as well.

Renee - Glad you were able to make it out for your training. Walking around parks can be considered excellent cross training but only if it is Disney. ;)

Jen - Sorry your allergies were acting up. Hope they get better this week.

Dave - Great picture of your dog as well. Sorry to hear about the humidity but since I have been dealing with it for a couple of months now, I think my pity will be short lived. ;)

Lily - Glad to hear you had a fun trip and made it back safely. Congrats on getting the compliments at the party.

Stephanie - Glad you were able to make it back through all the weather problems.

Laurie - Hope things calm down so you can get back into training. I think walking in a parade could be counted as excercise.

Mel - Glad you had a nice trip and made it back safely. It looks like you could have had some serious hill training out there. :)

Time to get to work and see if all our equipment made it back or not.

Bill

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, I haven't been on the boards for a couple of days. Family and I were enjoying the Memorial Day weekend. Nothing major, but really enjoyed having some days where we didn't have to get up and bust out of the house. I had been struggling with allergies all weekend, but my head finally's starting to clear out. I did get my scheduled runs in over the weekend.

Saturday, I did 5.06 miles in 47:40 min/9:25 mpm pace. I got my 20 mile week minimum mileage done, and was pleasantly surprised at my pace since I really felt lousy with the allergies.

Yesterday, I added a new workout to my routine. I did my first bout of speedwork. I ran to the local HS track (less than a mile from my house), and DD6 princess: came along on her scooter. At the track DD6 princess: went to the playground and played in the long jump sand pit. I alternated fast 1/4 mile laps (not all out) with slower recovery laps. I did the first mile in 7:32 min :cool1: and mile 2 in 7:56 min :cool1:. I was planning on doing 3 miles of that, but my stomach was feeling upset after mile 2 (I think because of the allergy medicine in my belly). So I decided not to push it too much, and I would build up to 3 miles of speedwork. I'm going to try to keep doing the Monday speedwork every week to try to get my pace down a little before I start the official marathon training.

Krista- I WISH your sister all the best for her angiogram and hospital stay. I hope everything works out. Tell Steve I said hello.

Mel/Chimera- Welcome back. Great pictures of your trip.

Lily- Where are the pictures of your trip?

Hey Dave it's good to see someome else goes by the minimum of 20 miles a week theory. I have read lots of studies that say that 20 miles is the magic number for getting the benefits. Between 20 and 30 miles per week will give you the most improvement. Right now I'm up around the 30 mark, since I'm getting ready for some races but normal health and fitness routine is 20 to 25miles per week.

Hope everyone had a super weekend. My dear lady is a nurse so her work week is three 12 hour nights then 4 days off. I'm so jealous.

Our steaks last night on the grill were very good, I'm going to have to do that more often.

Has everyone seen Robert's wonderful idea of playing miniture golf at fantasy golf about 2:00 on the day of the ToT and lunch after? As a WISH gathering prior to the evening race?

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

I have done nothing exercise-wise over Memorial Day weekend. I meant to, really, but I was lazy and didn't put on sunscreen Saturday. :rolleyes1 I sat on the beach at Chad's sister's place...and well...I fried my right leg pretty good. Sometimes it really stinks being a fairer than fair redhead! So, Sunday I spent all day with my legs up in the recliner at my uncle's house on the lake. It hurt too much to stand up. I am determined to get out there today!

Krista - more prayers & :wizard: for Shari!

Also, my sister that wins stuff all the time on the radio... She won the trip to Hawaii to see Gwen Stefani from Mix 98.5 this morning! The trip I was desperately trying to win - argh!!! Good thing I love her! ;)

Wow, trip to Hawaii to see Gwen Stefani!!! That's way too cool.

If not I can always defer the registration to 2009. Anyone still on the fence remember that if you can't go you can defer the registration up to a certain point prior to the race

I think you just made my day. I was on the fence about doing it in 2008 but definitely wanted to plan for 2009 so I guess I'll just register now. This was good to know.

Training wise I did just a little over 2 miles yesterday around a nearby pond. 21 minutes and I'm not sure of my split. Unfortunately it was a run/walk again as my body refuses to cooperate. I'm thinking the pain I was having in my lower calf was due to my ankles as that's what hurts now. I'm icing and promising myself not to run till I have new sneakers. (Which I hope to get today or tomorrow.)

Kristi-The one prize I've ever won I won off Mix 98.5 on an early Monday morning. But it wasn't nearly as exciting as seeing Gwen Stefani in Hawaii!
