Wk of May 27--WISH Running/Walking Club

Cindy - It's up to you. I would stay away from impact. If your XT is no impact, go for it. I'd do eliptical instead of running. If that does not help, I'd take 3 days off. Completely off. JMO.

Drive by..........

I've skimmed so I know I've missed folks. Catch up with you this afternoon when I post the glories of my 5-miler.... (you know, when it cools off...)

Stephanie-- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Karen-- Great job on your race!!

Krista-- Lab owner here too!! Along with a Newfoundland. Therefore we can't own anything white in our home. Or cream. Or beige. Really nothing pastel. And you can't sit on the sofa in khakis before going to work. Otherwise, they're great!! (They are however sulking today since they had their annual V-E-T appointments this morning...)

Carrie-- Was thinking about your dilemma. I thought I remembered you have a gym membership.. does the elliptical machine hurt? Even the treadmill might be better than the pavement.

Kim-- Yep! I'm running the Toronto Waterfront on September 30th too!! I'm not totally jazzed about the course, but it's flat and fast and in Toronto, so I'm there. I will actually be there in less than three weeks for vacation too!

Kim (again)-- I have the same dilemma about how much time to take off after the race. Right now I'm planning on taking a full week off and then ease back in with my scheduled long runs on Saturday 10/6 and Sunday 10/7. If I don't feel like I'm recovered enough yet, I'll bag them and not feel at all bad about it. I think a good rule of thumb would be to take at LEAST a week to a week and a half and then see how you feel. Better to take a little extra time then risk getting hurt.

OK, off to the stinkin' car dealership here..... Will post the results of tonight's run later...

Take Care!
Kevin :earsboy:

Jackie - You need this....

And this wouldn't hurt.... :mickeybar

Jackie--take some time off and take care of yourself. I made the mistake of trying to workout too hard when sick; and it almost sidelined me. I was so unhappy with my workout I was ready to throw in the towel--until I was reminded that I shouldn't have been out there in teh first place. Missing one LR isn't the end of the world

Christa--:lmao: on the "breezy" comment. That's kinda why I went with the Rollergirl. Little more coverage underneath;)

Got in 3 miles (8:50ish pace) before I had to quit to get DD to gymnastics for parent's day. It was really fun to see her; she's really improved this year (as much as any 3yo can!) Now it's time for naps and then off to the pool if the weather holds out.

Vic - all I can say is AHHHHHHH. They are one day old. Oh I just want to cuddle all of them!!!!

I'm supposed to be working, but....

Dave--You ran 8 miles this morning BEFORE work? :worship: That is awesome! Have you made any decisions about WDW yet? The good thing about the full is that it's filling up a lot slower than the half did/is.

Jackie-- I hope you are feeling better soon. I agree with Stephanie, get healthy and then start running again. Veg out on the couch in the air conditioning and eat ice cream. And yes, lab mixes count!

Kevin--I so hear ya on the dog hair thing! When we first got Hines I was I psycho about sweeping up all the hair, now I'm like whatever. Hines is mad at us too, he started a diet last night. No more food from Mom and Dad or T-R-E-A-T-S. :sad2: Are you getting a new car??

Vic--All I'm going to say about that sacrificing is, I'm sure glad I'm married!!!! :rolleyes1

They are so adorable, but I had to laugh when I read this:
Cam will refresh every 60 seconds and be on periodically during the day :lmao: Who's been peeking at my shower schedule? And wait 'til Howard hears I've become a neat freak! He'll be like :yay: :woohoo:

When I first read it I wondered what you were doing with the puppies... :rotfl:

Judy - I'm definitely thinking the :mickeybar is the solution. If only this were next week..

Stephanie & Krista - Thanks for reminding me that it's okay NOT to be running. It's so hard when I've finally built up the mileage (okay, not lots of mileage, but at least the consistency) and now nothing for what feels like days. I have to remember that I did walk Sunday, so it's only been three days, but I have a feeling that I'm probably not going to get anything in before this weekend. I do think I need to make Saturday's run, since I'll miss the next one while we're at WDW.

Krista - Mystic sheds so much, I'm not even embarassed anymore when tumbleweeds of dog hair roll by when people are visiting! Add that shepherd/husky to the lab/chow mix and all you have is FUR.

Jackie

No training to report on here. I did play hockey last night for a couple of hours. Probably won't run again until next week. One of the hockey teams I play goalie for is heading to Toronto for the league finals this weekend. Since we won the division we play in in New Jersey, we get to go to the finals to play against all the other league winners from cities across the country and Canada that participate in the Hockey North America league. I am really excited, but a little nervous at the same time!

We are leaving tomorrow night to drive up to Toronto and will be back late sunday night, but i should be able to check in a little bit!

Now to try to catch up a little bit:

Krista--I hope all goes with your sister and the diet and exercise helps her! My thoughts are with you and your family.

Maria--sounds like you had a good week of workouts!

Stephanie--Happy belated Birthday!!!

DreamBeliever--Welcome to the boards--you will love it here!!

Kevin--nice workout! Hang in there with the heat!!

Silver Steve--Glad to hear you are getting back out there!!

Karen--I was thinking about doing the Belmar race, gotta check my calendar. I am usually at my sister's house in Jackson on weekend's in the summer so a short trip over to Belmar would be easy!!! And I just realized that you live in Jackson...what a small world!

Kim--WTG for signing up for the races!! I am also staying at POP during marathon weekend...we are arriving on thursday and leaving on monday. We will have to meet up!!

vic--labradork!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: You are too funny!!

monte--Glad you had fun at the wedding! Funny story about your cousin, that is something I would totally do!!

poppinspal--hope you had fun playing football..you can count that as XT!!

Judy--I hope the accupuncture helps. I would never be able to get that done!!

Cindy--WTG on your LR! Sounds like a really cool course!

Christa--what a great week of training...Good Luck with the show opening!!

Jackie--I hope you are feeling better really soon. :wizard:

Well, I think I am all caught up...sorry to anyone I missed!!

Time to go pack for my tournament! Hope everyone has an AWESOME weekend!!!

I'm just popping in to say I've updated the calendar...Check it out! Post yours too!

I love the labra cam and Cam :lmao:

Reminder to those wanting the WISH Team hats. The order is almost closing and if you want a hat send your order and $$ it to Lynne soon!

I just know everyone will WISH they had a WISH Team hat! :thumbsup2

Just a quick question: Okay, I signed up for the 08 half last week. My friend that did the Minnie 5K with me is going to do the 5K in Jan. Here's the question: Would I be able to do the 5K, then the half the next day?

Wait a minute, I'm asking people, some of which are going to do 13.1 one day, and 26.2 the next, whether I can do 3.1, then 13.1?!? It just sounds so reasonable now!

I got in 2.4 miles this morning, working on speed. I downloaded a couple of new songs, that really gets you going!

CAM- I was laughing about the refresh- of course I had to read it a few times to get it, I'm just too tired tonight!

No training to report today. Was supposed to go the gym tonight for some XT, but did a bunch of yard work today which really aggravated my allergies, so decided to stay home & rest instead. The one benefit…..it gave me the time to DIS 2 days in a row. :woohoo:

Kim – John & I did a half last September 17th before doing the WDW half in January. The September half was our first half. We did a couple of easy weeks after the Sept. half & then began training for the WDW Half at the beginning of October. We followed MFM’s 14 week walk/run a half program. Good luck finding a training plan that works for you.
WWDave – Not sure we would be able to make it to mini-golf before TOT Race, but it sounds like fun.
DreamBeliever – Hope the rain co-operated for you to get in your bike ride today.
Krista – Glad the new gym is working out for you. Getting your sis a membership to curves sounds like a good idea. Hopefully it will be the motivation she needs.
Jen – Good luck at your parents meeting. Hopefully it will all work out.
Dave – WOW! 8.34 miles for a mid-week run. :worship:
Carrie – Glad giving blood went well. Thanks for passing on the info on TOT. Glad it is something they are planning on keeping around for a while.
Monica – That is too funny about your cousin going to the wrong wedding. :rotfl2: I’m sure your whole family will be laughing about that for years. Hope the kitchen floor gets done soon.
Leana – Congratulations on the consistent splits.
Poppinspal – Hope you had fun playing football. pixiedust: for the broken toe. Hope it is better soon.
Judy – Ouch :headache: on the acupuncture. Hope it helps!
Cindy – The trail run sounds like fun.
Christa – “played tug-o-war with a moving boat”….sounds like fun! :lmao: Good Luck on your show this weekend.
Jackie – Feel better!pixiedust:
Kevin – Hope tonight’s run went well.
Stephanie – Good job squeezing in the 3 miles.:thumbsup2
Vic – Loved the LabbyCam. They are sooooo cute!
Cam – :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Laurie – Good luck at the hockey finals! Definitely a small world that your sister lives in Jackson. What part? We’re out near Lakehurst. Maybe we’ll get to meet up in Belmar.

Cam will refresh every 60 seconds and be on periodically during the day Who's been peeking at my shower schedule? And wait 'til Howard hears I've become a neat freak! He'll be like :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I'll believe it when I see it! :rotfl: :woohoo: :cheer2: :dance3:

DreamBeliever--Welcome to the boards! Have fun here!

I have some running results to report:

I ran yesterday and completed 4.77 miles.... here are the full mile times:

Mile 1: 11:07
Mile 2: 13:39
Mile 3: 12:08
Mile 4: 10:55

I ran a very hilly course, but it was along the scenic Brandywine River in Wilmington, DE. I will probably run there again soon.

It is at the site of my very first running event ever. A 2001 5K event... my time for my first ever 5K was: 34:42 for an 11:10 pace. My 5K PR happened in March 2005 when I logged a 24:54 for an 8:02 pace.

Here is what I've accomplished since taking up this sport in June, 2001:

2001 = Three 5K's
2002 = Three 5K's,
2003 = Four 5K's, One 5 Miler
2004 = One 5K, One 5 Miler,
2005 = Nine 5K's, One 5 Miler, One 15K
2006 = Four 5K's, One 5 Miler, Three Half-Marathons, One Marathon
2007 = Three 5K's, One Half-Marathon, One Marathon (Goofy)

That totals: Twenty-Eight 5K's, Four 5 Milers, One 15K, Four Half-Marathons and Two Marathons!! :cool1:

I will also be running in the LaSalle Bank Chicago Distance Classic in August and the ToT in October. I'll also be running in the Goofy and Marine Corps Marathon in 2008.

Happy training!

:grouphug:

I was thinking we should sacrifice a virgin as one of our rituals. Well... :lmao:
Good luck finding one!

Come to think of it, we do have a number of never been married members so I guess we can assume either they would qualify or are hell-bound heathens! ;) Just kidding!!

Hey Dave Skywalker - You really need to find a fall marathon to run! You're already training like you're running one. Might as well put those miles to good use.

Mel - Loved the pictures! I'd love to be able to spend some time in the mountains like that. I'm hoping there was a sign telling you how many steps there were and you didn't count them yourself!

We were lucky enough to go to WDW for the last part of last week. We suprised DD7 with a trip for her birthday (you gotta love a SW Ding for less than $30 per person). We stayed in a cabin at Fort Wilderness for the first time. It was really quite nice.

I got a run in while all the girls were napping on Thursday. 1:00 PM is not the ideal time for a late May Florida run, but what the heck. I ran around Fort Wilderness, thought of Judy as I ran past the Tri-Circle-D? ranch, over to the Wilderness Lodge, walked though the lobby (steering clear of guests with functioning olfactory glands) in search of a water fountain (none to be found), then ran back to FW.

Just a quick editorial note: Disney maps are definitely NOT to scale. Being Garminless, I figured I ran 2 or 3 miles based on the "1 mile as the crow flies" on the FW map. I felt kind of guilty about needing to stop a few times for water and sight-seeing and general not dying. I mapped out my route the other night when we got back and it was actually about 5.5 miles, so I feel a little better about it overall.

BTW, DD7 had a great time, was sufficiently fussed over by many CM's, received multiple free desserts, was sung Happy Birthday to by Voices of Liberty and in french by a bunch of talented waiters, and cried, no sobbed, the entire way from WDW to the airport when it was time to leave.

Coming from a non-Goofy person - totally doable!

I did the 5k and Half this past year. I think I am going to do both of those again this year, but only because the 5k goes through AK.

Aaaaaaarrrrrrgh I lost my post I was working on!!! I'll try to reconstruct it.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I wanted to thank everyone for their kind words on my 8+ mile run yesterday. I really appreciate the support and encouragement. You guys are the best. :thumbsup2 I'm definitely not trying to break any records or anything, but I'm trying to build up my weekly mileage from 20-25 miles/week to a minimum of 30 miles/week. I'd like to be comfortably running 30 miles/week before I start any marathon training. For that as yet unspecified marathon - "the marathon that shall not be named".

OK, I'm going to try to catch up a little.

Dream Believer- Welcome to the team. I joined this team in January 06, and they've kept me running when nothing else would. This team is the reason I finished a marathon, and I'm hoping for more. Welcome, we're glad to have you.

Carrie- glad the bloodletting went better.

Leana- great job on your 4.5 miler!

Judy- how'd the accupuncture for your tinnitus work? Have you noticed a difference? I've had tinnitus for as long as I can remember, but have never done anything about it. Alas, I think mine is self-inflicted. Too many times mowing the yard as a kid with my Walkman on full blast to drown out the mower.

Cindy- Great job on the 8 miler this weekend. What are you training for right now? Sounds like you are doing great.

Christa- Sounds like you had a fun weekend playing tug o' war with your boat. Who won? Good luck with the show this weekend. What is it? Don't be a stranger.

Jackie- I hope you are feeling better soon!

Kevin- Ooooh a new car? How exciting. How'd the run go? It's getting hot around these parts. I'm glad I did my run yesterday in the morning.

Stephanie- You're still cranking out the sub 9 min miles. Whoo hooo, WTG! :thumbsup2

Jen- I hope your work/family stress is easing up a little. Although it sounds like it's a pretty chronic condition. Hope your allergies are easing up too. Mine are starting to get better.

Krista- I hope your sister is recovering well. I kind of agree with Carrie about the Curves membership. I think it's a great idea, but just be careful she doesn't think she's being "ganged up" on and having it forced upon her. But you know your sister, it is too bad that you aren't closer and can exercise with her. Thanks for asking about the WDW marathon. No, I haven't made any decisions yet. I'm still hoping I can do the WDW full, and yes, I'm glad it's not filling up too fast right now. How about you? Have you made any decisions about running in January? Have you and Steve signed up for anything?

Laurie- Good luck with your hockey tourney.

Stacey- I think you can do the 5K the day before the WDW half marathon. Just take it nice and easy in the 5K, and drink lots and lots of fluids (water and Gatorade). Especially if it's hot again.

Karen- You have allergies too, uugh. It's a bad season right now.

Howard- It's great to have you posting again. Are there any races in Delaware coming up that I could use as an excuse to come down? Nice job on your 4.77 miler, and a great job on your accomplishments since you started this in 2001.

Mike/Optimator- Yes, I do need a fall marathon. I'm holding out for WDW Full as my one marathon this year, and if that doesn't work out I'm not sure what I'll do. We'll see. That surprise birthday treat for DD7 sounded great. What a treat. We stayed at the FW Cabins too, and thought they were great!

Hello Kristi- Hope you're sunburn is under control, and you're getting some more rest these days too.

I've appointed WWDave as the Sergeant at Arms, and Judy as the Court Jester. Anyone else? :)

I was thinking we should sacrifice a virgin as one of our rituals.
Well... :lmao:

Vic we can't sacrifice virgins anymore. They have a union now, we would have put in a request in triplicate, leave a deposit and hope our name was drawn in the lottery. Besides Cam would kick our butt anyway.

We should take applications for the "you ain't right club" though. I think we should let Tiger Lilly in. She is nutty enough for our club.pirate:

Ok Who else thinks they have enough screws loose to be considered for membership? You may nominate others for membership also.:yay:

The humidity has hit Southern Ky with no mercy. I'm going to try to PR on my 4 mi hill route this morning. I'm determined to acclimate to the heat this week. I did that course yesterday and the watch said I was going much slower than the effort said I was.

Have a great day, smile and mean it. The happiness is there you just have to believe it.

Dave:hippie:
