Wk of May 27--WISH Running/Walking Club

I just have time to be on here for a second as my afternoon just blew up! While I was at lunch, my Mom called and left a message on my voice mail, Shari is out of surgery and in recovery. She has 2 arteries that are 25% blocked, I guess hospitals don't do anything unless the arteries are 75% blocked. They are putting her on a diet and an exercise program, hopefully she sticks to it!!!! I'm not sure if with weight loss and exercise if the arteries clear themselves or if she will always have partially blocked arteries.

Leana--Very cool about your family being so international. You must have had a pretty incredible child hood.

Carrie--Yay on your bridge run!!!! I thought about you Saturday afternoon and hoped it went okay!

Cam--You had an incredibly busy weekend! Get some rest and try to recover!

Kim--Congrats on signing up for the half marathon!!! That is so exciting!!!!

Okay, back to work!

Hi All!

I really can't keep up with this thread, but here's a summary of the last few days --

Friday - Signed up for Sparkpeople, realize I am eating way to many carbs and not nearly enough protein.

Saturday - First outside run, around Deer Island (it's a peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic with a lovely flat paved path and gorgeous views, the only drawback is it holds the sewage treatment plant for Greater Boston -- watch out for the wind!) 2.6 miles, and although I could have done better, I did it!

Sunday - Walk to "The Queen", which I really enjoyed. 100 minutes at 3.5 mph. Still eating too many carbs, making progress on eating more protein.

Monday - Run/Walk for 5.2 miles, alternating 3:1 feels great. Now I have a strategy to get through the 5K in a few weeks, and also the Donald!

Tuesday - 45 min stationary bike ride before work, hopefully a strength workout later.

Here's a question -- inside on the TM, I can run for whatever the entire distance is without any problems. Outside I really seem to need a walk break. Is this just psychological?

Krista -- Here's hoping your sister will do very well with the diet and exercise, and have a speedy recovery!

Carrie -- So glad you enjoyed your bridge run!

Cam -- My goodness, what a weekend! And you still did your crunches and push-ups! Awesome.

Kim -- Congratulations on being booked!

Dana -- I do have beaches about five minutes from my house, so I will probably do some "beachside" running, once I get a little more used to being outside. It does feel like you're really doing something when you're outside. I loved the sun and the wind. I am very fortunate to live close to fantastic places to run.

Mel & Lily -- Welcome Back!

Vic -- What cuties!

Everyone have a great day!
Maria

Krista - Thanks for the update. (And thanks for thinking of me Saturday. :goodvibes ) I do not think that the blockages get better, but a healthy diet adn exercise should help so that they don't get worse too quickly. I'll pray that Shari takes the diet and exercise to heart. Hopefully she will and you two will have another bond. Shall we sign her up for 09? ;) Hang in there! :grouphug:

Maria - Way to go on teh work outs!! I'm with you on teh too many carbs adn not enough protein thing. :( Let me know if you find cotton candy made out of protein! ;)

Kim - Woo hoo on signing up!!!

No work outs for me tonight. I'm supposed to give blood. This did not go well last time, so if you have any pixie dust to spare.....

Carrie--definitely sending some PD your way about the blood drawing--I have had terrible experiences with the Red Cross--apparently my veins are extremely hard to find:confused3 Thanks for the skirt advice-I got a pm from Leana about the Rollergirl, so I think I'm gonna order that one

Krista--glad to hear that your sister doesn't need any more surgery. Hopefully this is just what she needs to get the diet and exercise going!

Cam--I am still totally amazed that even with all youdid this weekend you still worked in your crunches and pushups! REading your post makes me realize that I have plenty of time to workout everyday--I just have to be committed to do it! So as much as you come here for inspiration, reading your posts inspire me!

Well, I hit hte gym today for a strength training class--no running though. Will get back on track tomorrow, hopefully--it's parent's day at DD's gymnastics, so I can't run during that time-just means I'll have to get out of the house earlier than normal.

My parents just dropped off my bday present--a big gift cert. to the local running store--so now I just have to decide what I want--more shoes, more clothes, decsions, decisions! Well, gotta run!

:goodvibes Hi Everyone!

I'm a walker and I would love join you here on this weekly thread. I've read many of your motivating and encouraging posts. The support you give each other is very geniune and heart warming ~ plus ~ I'm extremely impressed by the running times you achieve. :thumbsup2

Today, I walked 100 minutes (7 miles) with a friend ~ I'm pretty sure we've solved many of the world's problems. You see, we chat :hyper2: a lot while we walk.

I look forward to getting to know each of you a little better.

Hello everyone!!!

I can't believe that I didn't have a chance to check in last week at all. Busy, busy, busy.....

Mel-- Wonderful pics!!

Leana-- Congrats!! Great race!!

Minnie-- WTG on registering for the race!!

Krista-- Glad to hear the good news about your sister!!

Laurie-- Great job on the race!! :thumbsup2

Carrie-- Good to hear the bridge run went well. I was hoping that the weather turned out well for you. It was really dicey down here on Saturday.

DreamBeliever-- :welcome:

Cam-- You know, next time I think I'm busy, I'll remember to read your posts. I'm tired just thinking about doing all of that. :faint:

Kim-- There is absolutely enough time to get ready for the full!! Most programs "officially" start 16-24 weeks out, so you would have enough time to follow on of those and even ramp up your exersice program before then. There are even programs that run to as many as 30 weeks (Galloway, I think), but I'm not a big fan of those. (I think they last too long and the training mileage gets to high)

I am still recovering from the weekend. Back and forth and back and forth and back and forth to the lakeshore from Friday through Monday. It was a really great weekend, though-- had a complete blast. I can't believe we're leaving for vacation in three weeks! :woohoo:

Today was the official start for training for the Waterfront, so it was an easy three miles in 28:35, or 9:35/mile. I really wanted to get out there and be speedy, but the heat thought otherwise and I really struggled through the last mile. I'm going to have to start getting up early or going late if this keeps up, especially for the long runs.

Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:

Not a bad time for 7 miles either.

Good job on the 7 miles! I'm a walker too!

I heard today on the radio that someone died while doing the Boulder Bolder, so I checked out the paper, here's the link: http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_5559345,00.html

I was a little freaked out, til I realized that he probably had a pre-existing condition.

I did 4.4 miles Monday outside  , nothing today, but I did get a helmet & tire pump so I can start XT with the bike.

Hello WISH team,

I am back on the roads!

I have been away for a while (wallowing in my inactivity), but 13 weeks after knee surgery I was able to test the knee out today; a nice and easy 12 minute run.

Allow me a brief reintroduction: left knee surgery February 2007 for shredded cartilage and osteoarthritis (had right knee surgery in '05); was informed my long distance running days were over, but...turned 40 years old in Feb. and I am bound and determined to go out with a bang (hopefully not in my knees). I entered the marathon, then discovered Goofy entries were still available via Marathon Tours & Travel.

So, I'm all in; Goofy '08 shall be my long distance swan song, be it running, walking, or a combination of both.

Take care everyone!

Quick update... I did 42 minutes on the TM while DD's did swimming. It was HOT in there, so I was dripping when I was done. The TV choices were really blah, so I got to actually watch the new at night instead of my usual morning.

Hi, everyone! Thank you so much for the kind words.
Stephanie -- Happy Birthday, sweetie! :cake:

QUick drive-by to report an hour on the TM -- 4.31 miles (burned ~420 calories). Someone I knew in my former (read almost-75-pound-heavier) life was on the TM next to me so I jogged a bit here and there, but I was really not pushing too hard, since I am trying to build up my frequency and miles again.

Have a great night, all! :grouphug:

Well, as usually I have lots of catching up to do. :rolleyes1 Training for CDC has been going ok. Saturday I did the Spring Lake 5 Mile Race. I posted the report to the race report thread, but I’ll say here that I finished in 1:01:40. I was very happy with my time. :thumbsup2 Sunday we spent over 2 hours out kayaking in a local lake. It was a beautiful day to be out there. Monday I took as a rest day, and today I walked 3 miles with friends. It wasn’t a very fast walk but it was very enjoyable. My legs were thankful for the easy day since they were still hurting from the sunburn I got while kayaking. :sad2:

Maria – Congratulations on getting outside! Once you get used to it, you will never want to use the treadmill again.
Sara – Enjoy your taper!
Laurie – Nice finish! And again, I really wish me had gotten to meet you on Saturday. Are you planning on running the Belmar 5 in July? John & are thinking about it. We’d like to get in a race in July & figure it will be hot no matter what, so might as well do one by the beach & take advantage of the ocean breeze.
Lily – Sorry you didn’t get to do the 4 mile walk at the Dis Picnic, but smart choice choosing not to do it in flip flops.
Mel – Really nice photos! Glad you enjoyed your trip!
Leana – That’s cool that you got to grow up living in so many different countries.
Minnie, Megan & Kim – Congratulations on signing up for the half!
Renee – I would definitely count walking around amusement parks & water parks as XT.
Vic – Nice photos of the boys!
Jen – Hope the allergies are feeling better. Mine have been pretty bad lately too. Then they make my asthma act up. Ugh!
WWDave – Nice photo of Erica & your dog.
Krista – Hope the IT Band is feeling better. Glad your sis is doing ok. Hopefully this scare will be enough to get her to stick with a diet & exercise.
Bill – Good job getting in some training while you were away. :grouphug: to Lynnda for dealing with Billy being sick while you were away.
Dave – Great job on the speedwork! I saw the photos last week from your princess: princess: 5k. They did GREAT! Do they want to continue to run or was it a one time thing?
Kristi – Hope the sunburn is feeling better. I know just how you feel. We went kayaking on Sunday. Spent over 2 hours out on the lake without any sunblock. I can still feel the heat coming off my legs. Congratulations to your sister for winning a trip to Hawaii. Very cool!
Dana – Your son is doing great with his running.:thumbsup2
Cam – Wow, very busy weekend. I thought about you during the Spring Lake 5 on Saturday. Missed seeing you there.
Carrie – Congratulations on the Bridge Run! Hope giving blood went well.
Stephanie – Happy Birthday!!!
Dream Believer – :welcome:
Kevin – Good Luck with your training for the Waterfront.
Stacey – Having fun XT on the bike.
Steve(SilverE) – Congratulations on your first post surgery run.

Good evening everyone.

Tonight was 10 3-minute rounds on the heavy bag. The foot seemed to handle it well.

Krista – Good thoughts enroute to your sister.

Bill – The dogs are in charge at our house! :rotfl:

Dave and Jenn – Sorry to hear about your allergies.

Megan – Take care of yourself.

Renee – WTG with the weight training. :thumbsup2

Dana – Great job with the 4 miler and 1.4 milers! Yep, having labs is just like have kids.

Leana – WTG with the weight training. I always enjoy sharing pics of the boys.

WWDave - Welcome to the "You ain't right" Club. I am the charter member. Who put Vic in charge this week anyway??

Charter member? You’re the club president! :lmao:

Judy said:
Mel - Wow, great pictures! I'm glad you're back. Did you put Vic in charge?

Somebody had to do it. See the hill, take the hill, kind of thing. :)

Judy said:
Vic - Oh what cute pups! I'm sorry but Dusty just does not look like a "Bad To The Bone" type of dog.

Every morning around 0400 he saves us from the paper delivery man. Every freaking morning. The crazy mutt. :sad2: :rotfl2:

Judy said:
BTW, I would just like to say, I ran yesterday for all those vets and those currently in the military who can no longer run...
:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Cam – Reading your post made me tired. The only reason the boys are sitting and smiling is because I was holding up a treat. They’ll do just about anything for a treat. :rotfl:

Carrie – WTG with the bridge run. Glad I could help out this week.

Maria – Great job with the training!

Stephanie – Happy Birthday!

DB - :welcome:

Kevin – Good luck with the training.

Stacey – WTG with the 4 miler!

Steve(SilverE) – Welcome back.

Sorry if I missed anyone.

Have a great morning all.

Kim

Ok the "You ain't right club will come to order now". President and member Big Vic overseeing the weeks activities. Registered member and class clown, Judy the HonneiBee will hosting the LLama tipping this evening. It's DianeL's turn to bring cookies. (Healthy, with dark chocolate chips, and almonds).

First order of business: We need to vote on the motion to throw some of the purple clad 'Team in Training' honneys to the Boogy at ToT instead of Judy. There are plenty so no one would miss a few of them.

Then we need to announce the afternoon WISH gathering at the Fantasia Mini Golf course, in the boardwalk area. Followed by lunch. This is Robert's idea and tentitave plan is for about 2:00 oclock. This would be on the day of the ToT for everyone to get together in a relaxed atmosphere before the evenings racing.

Ok I'm slinking off now to walk. Y'all have a great day.

WWDave:hippie:

Wow ~ thanks for the warm :welcome:

Last night I watched :happytv: Boston Legal with DH ~ that show makes me laugh out loud!

Today after work, I'm going for a bike ride for a little XT. Hopefully, the rain will stay away long enough.

Dave & Stacey ~ I love walking too. I'd like to add a little jogging to my walking routine to be better prepared for the 2008 Donald.

Kristi ~ That's good news regarding your sister not needing surgery.

Steve ~ Continued success with your recovery.

Have a great day :cool1:

Dave--:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I'm in for mini-golf--if I can get the kiddos away from the pool for a couple hours

Kim--DH and I are doing a full that same weekend and then are going to turnaround and start training for WDW. I think I'll take a week off and jump into training after that. This is the first time I'll have two big long distances so close to each other--so we'll see

leana--I ordered a Roller girl skirt last night!:thumbsup2 Can't wait to get it!

Dreambeliever--welcome!

Steve--congrats on getting out there for that 1st post-op run.

Today I hope to get 3-4 miles in before DD starts gymnastics. I've got to take pics of my little princess swinging like a monkey--I'm sure all the other parents are gonna love stinky ole me sitting with them;) Happy Hump Day all!

My legs are so sore!!! I love it! :goodvibes The equipment at Gold's Gym is 1000 times better than what is at the Community Center. I did the stationary bike for 30 minutes with the resistance set at 8 and then I lifted. My hamstrings are still feeling it today. Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts for Shari, I really appreciate it. I wish she lived closer to us (she's about an hour away), I'd make her get out and exercise. I saw there's a Curves less than a mile from her house, I thought about going in with my parents and getting her a one year membership for her birthday. Her birthday is not until September, but it can be an early present.

And speaking of birthdays....

Happy Birthday Stephanie!!!!
Happy Belated Birthday Leana!!! party: :cake: party: :cake:

WW Dave--:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Carrie--Did you survive giving blood?

Kim--You can always run the half marathon in September as training run, so then you don't have to really take any time off for the WDW half.

Karen--Congrats on your 5 miler! Sorry about the sun burn!

Kristi--I am so jealous of your sister, Gwen's my girl!!!!

Vic--Should we call you Rocky Balboa? I can't believe your sweet, precious Dusty would do anything bad like that!!! ;)

Silver Steve--Welcome back!!!!! Congrats for signing up for Goofy! Here's some :wizard: that your knee will be okay!

Cam--I love it, your former life!! Nice job on the 4 miles!

Maria--Awesome job on your workouts this week!!!! :woohoo: And no, needing a walk break outside isn't psychological, running outside is much harder than running on a treadmill, so that's why you may be struggling a little bit. Trust me, you'll get used to it.

Bill--Poor Lynnda!!! I hope Billy is feeling better!

Jen and Dave--:wizard: for the allergies!

By the way, how many Lab owners do we have here?

Just wanted to pop in this morning...

Krista - I am a golden owner, but that is pretty close right???? If any dog lovers want to read a AWESOME book, I recommend "Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog" by John Grogan. Great book.

Today is a rest day, mostly because I don't have any time to do anything. After work I run DD to gymnastics, eat dinner in the car and then run her to awards night at school. Then after that there is a parents meeting because there are problems at the school which may eventually cause it to close. So it will be a late night for me.

Have a great one all!!!
