Wk of May 18 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Leana - Is there some kind of unwritten "no posting before 10am if you are from Canada" rule? :rotfl: I'm only slightly jealous of Banff... :) I really hope the weekend is awesome for you! Happy early b-day :goodvibes:

Did she say The Rock? Hmmm...thought she told me she wasn't into those body builder types...

Carrie - on the beach, nice!! Reminds me of that yoga class I saw on the beach at the Beach Club (ahem, Amy) during the 15k. Sounds like fun :)

Patrick stewart? Hmmm...thought she told me she liked men WITH hair....

Stacie - Nothing like a good Buffett reference to spice up the post! Hope the weekend at the coast is fun...I say go enjoy yourself and make next Tuesday the official start of your summer base training plan :)

Anderson Cooper? Hmmm...thought she liked the dark hair and the green eyes....

Debra - Chunky Monkey...could go all kinds of ways with that one...and this whole 50 state thing, I just don't get it. So the object is to run into a hotel in each state? Or is it to sleep in each state? Amy, can you help me out here? :rotfl: And I'll get to work on that screenplay, gotta find a way to work ice cream, drinking and running into a campy horror flick.

Dave Navarro? Hmmm...thought she was over those edgy rocker type dudes...

TXAng - Thank you for the show, ride and ice cream advice!! Planning is so much fun :goodvibes:

Amy - Oohhhh...RUNNING in 50 States, now I get it! Thanks for the clarification there :thumbsup2 Good luck with the 10 classes this week and super good luck with the run in the sun today :)

Sidekick McFourthBest's World - Nothing to report yet today, but it looks like I'll be changing plans a bit. Gonna go inject some steroids, shave my head, insert some blue contact lenses, load on some eyeliner and buy some hip rocker clothes...THEN...I'll head to the FC and get a solid workout on the elliptical (errr...Amy, actually I'll be at the FC pumping some heavy iron, cocking my eyebrow and shouting "Do you smell what The Scott is cookin'...who's the people's champ now, jabroni?")

Hope everyone has a great day :)

And honestly, the best restaurant ever....is off the strip - the Firefly on Paradise. It is well worth the cab ride there and back. Amazing tapas, open late, and fantastic pitchers of sangria. We landed in Vegas at 10 pm, checked into our hotel, then took a cab out there and it was probably our best meal the entire trip. The bacon wrapped dates are the best.

I SECOND THAT! We go there everytime we are in Vegas (which is every year for work convention). This place has become increasingly more busy every year as people find out how great it is. Definately need to make a reservation. Food is AWESOME!

Morgan: I have a great way of keeping all my stuff together and it doesn't take the time it would to scrapbook. Get a nice big 3-ring binder and a large pack of heavy-weight sheet protectors. You can use a protector sleeve for each event. (Some events may require more than one) I always put my bib, course map and printed race results in the sleeve and then anything I want to save. For the TofT I included the party wristband, etc. Unfortunately medals won't fit in, but you probably want to display those anyway. The binder is really quick and easy for those of us with no scrapbooking skills. Best of all, it keeps everything super organized.

Did someone mention "The Mole"? OMG, that's my favorite show! I am so happy they are bringing it back. I loved the fact that it was usually more cerebral than physical.

A big shout-out to everyone else!

Leana, I picked up the Wii Fit this morning. I got to to target at 8:30am and they only had 5 left! It's sitting in my car calling out to me to skip out of work and play ;) I am wishing I had been intelligent enough to ask for tomorrow off so I could see Indy at midnight and then play the Wii Fit all day tomorrow. Doh!

Kept waiting for "... But Jim never has a second cup of my coffee...."
Oy, so seriously dated myself with that one....:rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi, friends. I'm not missing. I just got home from the apple store. My Macbook Pro has suffered a complete hard drive failure. I think some of the photos are saved on photobucket, but I think we lost the ones from the finish line and all the ones with the characters after the race. They don't think they can salvage them off the hard drive. :sad1:

I just walked in, so I'll be around tomorrow or Friday or even Saturday. It will take a couple days to fix my buddy.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

I'm sorry--I'll catch up here and on the Herc's thread as soon as I can.

And Debra, Chunky Monkey was my first ice cream I made at home!

Let's see...4 miles on Mon, 2 miles today, 40 minutes of pre-pilates yesterday...full week for me so far. Tomorrow will definitely be rest since WT has dance class.

AmyBeth...when I was an undergrad, I thought Patrick Stewart was pretty hot for an old dude ;)

Duckie...so sorry to hear about your Mac's illness.

Bill...can't wait to see the picture of Billy's cake. Don't suppose you saved any for the rest of us? :rolleyes1

Liz...yikes...how are you feeling?

Jeanne...I keep mine in a photo album. I'm not much good in the scrapbook arena either.

Scott...you're starting to remind me of those old subliminal message skits on SNL. I think that was Kevin Nealon?

Morgan...can't wait to hear how the Wii works for you!

Amykab...hope you and the fam are feeling better soon.

Judy...happy belated birthday!

Leana...happy early birthday!

Debra...we should have a big ice cream party in someone's room during marathon weekend. I'll make the spicy cinnamon with chocolate chips. I have one of those ice cream makers where you freeze the canister...and two canisters. We're going to try to get a one bedroom at OKW so we'll have some extra space. I also have the Ben and Jerry's ice cream book!

So, for you Janet Evanovich fans, I think the Rock could make a passable Ranger. And DD15 thinks the guy from that vampire show on Friday night could be Morelli.

Ice cream, Ranger & Morelli....I am so crashing this party! ;) :rotfl:

:woohoo: National Employee Health and Fitness Day:woohoo:

Today is National Employee Health and Fitness Day and every year to celebrate my employer has a Poker Walk to encourage everyone to take a break and take a walk. We walk about a mile and at different checkpoints along the way each person draws a card, the person with the best poker hand at the end wins 8 hrs PTO...and the winner this year, with 3 Kings, is.....ME:woohoo: :woohoo: How awesome is that?

Well it looks like we know who will be paying for the ice cream party now. :lmao: ;)

Mel - Can I come... CAN I CAN I????

Pat - That is so awesome. I wish my employer did that... Oh wait, I am the employer, I was supposed to plan it. Arggg..... missed out!

OK, tonight the dog and I did 2.65 ish miles. The pollen was so bad I thought I would die. My nose is so stuffed up and sore and my Zyrtek doesn't even help. Thank goodness I am in taper mode... Oh wait, I have been tapering since Minnie!!!!

Oh, did I ever mention that we never told the kids we took a quicky to WDW for the Minnie... well DD7 is smart, but not smart enough. She keeps seeing my Minnie things lay around, sees the date says May, but it doesn't click yet.... shewww... she thinks it is from the marathon!! We will be so busted next time because she is way too smart for us!

8 hours Paid Time Off... you better spend the day out running those 8 hours. LOL :rotfl2: . Congrats Pat on your poker hand.

Yeah, the VOG is back today, and will linger through the weekend. Very nasty stuff to breath. I can't imagine what it's doing to everyone's health. Farmers on the big island are all losing their crops to the sulfur dioxide.

Hi team! So I ended up switching my xt and my runs to start the week. Last night I did 3 miles (instead of doing it Monday) and it took just around 25 minutes. (I don't have my ipod handy to check down to the second.) I felt good and I'm really ready to start ramping up my training for the few races I have planned and maybe plan more.

So I have a question for all of you... I really want to look into taking like a kickboxing class or even a spinning class, something to really get me moving. How do people go about finding a good place to take classes like these? We have a full free weight set and treadmill at my house so I've never looked into gyms or classes like this. Any suggestions?

I will have to check back in tomorrow when I'm not exhausted.

MLA1977 – Glad to hear that Day 2 went better! Hope Day 3 involves NO cramping at all.

Debra – I loved your race report! I had no idea that this was your second half. For some reason I thought you’d been running a lot longer. You’ve given me hope that I might actually be able to do a half someday soon! :)

Amykab – Glad you’re feeling better! Sorry that DD seems to have caught it, though.

Amy – Apparently there’s now a spinning ride that hangs off the edge of the Stratosphere. You couldn’t pay me enough money to try that one!

Stacie – Have fun at the coast this weekend!

Leana – Did you do the Borg Invasion part of the Star Trek thing? I loved the original part, but the Borg part freaked me out!

Duckie – So sorry to hear about the lost photos! What a bummer!

Mel – I love the ice cream party idea! Let’s make it an annual event, though, because I won’t be there in 2009.

Pat – VERY cool! What are you going to do with your extra time off?

Jen – Too funny about DD. Hope your allergies are feeling better.

Megan – WTG on the speedy 3-miler!

Me - Well, I did get on the TM last night for W5D3 - and I won! 20 minutes of running (about 1.5 miles) with no walk breaks. I know it wasn't speedy, but that's the longest and furthest I've run ever. :woohoo:

Good Morning Everyone

I actually have a training, or icing tip, before I go on to my effort today. My apartment has a refrigerator that is passable, but a freezer which is cold but not really usable for making ice. I also need to ice 2 major muscles after I run, otherwise disaster is possible. I remembered that I read somewhere in situations like this you can use frozen peas, and it absolutely works. I bought 2 pounds of frozen peas and have them in the freezer. They were perfect for the 40 minutes of icing, they move around getting lots of cold contact, and after they went back into the freezer.

This morning I did my first run in Paris, and it was pretty amazing. I tried to take it easy, but as I covered the miles and the monuments and buildings came into and out of view, I appreciated the layout and beauty of the city even more. At one point I thought to myself, "this is sort of like running around EPCOT, because I keep seeing the Eiffel Tower  .

The details:

Out of the apartment, down to and around the National Assembly/Palais Bourbon, up the Seine, past Musee D'Orsay, across the Seine, into Tuileries Gardens, left and under Arc de Triomphe du Carousel, into the Louvre courtyard, around the courtyard, around the Pyramid, back out under the Arc, down Tuileries, through Place de la Concorde, up the Champs Elysee, left behind the Grand Palais, right over the Alexander III bridge, up to Invalides and Napoleon's Tomb, and done. 50 minutes and 5+ miles of the most amazing sights I've ever experienced on a run.

All I can say is wow!

Best
Craig

Craig: All I can say is, "COOL" and "I'm exhausted" :)

** i do have a really nice longer post coming up, but last night I just couldn't stay up, will have to try tonight when I get home from work and walking at the park.**

Craig - Running in Paris......I think that has to be about as wonderful as it gets.:goodvibes
