Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

:welcome: ArmyWife!

Joan...sorry to hear about your IT band.

Jennifer...great pace on your 10K.

Frank...:rotfl: I thought that 5K was hilly too ;)

Vicky...I wear Bullfrog, Hawaiian Tropic, whatever's close, but I have to use sensitive skin stuff on my face. My first job out of college was making Panama Jack sunscreens. Back then, Banana Boat had gotten in trouble with the FDA because their sunscreens weren't the SPF they claimed on the label. I'm sure it's been corrected now though, since they're still on the market. I don't think they still put PABA in sunscreens.

My experiment for tonight is to determine if sausage and peppers is a good pre-race dinner...Sarasota Dirty Duo is tomorrow!

Mel, Thanks! I love you guys for making me feel better about my "slow" week.

I did my long run today 11.8 miles in 1 hr 35 min (about 8:20ish pace). The inflamation I was having stopped and I'm now fully recovered so i should be back to "normal" this week.

Best,
Jennifer

For the record, my first DNF. The course was two 3 mile loops. I haven't run 6 miles since the Princess half and DD16 hasn't run anywhere since the Minnie 2 years ago. This race had a runner only category with no bikes...next year, taking the bike! Anyway, one loop seemed like enough. Next year, I'll know to train...I guess this counts as my first trail run. Much harder than running on sidewalks. But very very fun!

We started out wheelbarrow racing, then I had to carry her on my back, then you do the run on flat pasture. We saw a 6 foot gator in the pond. People with bikes were trading on and off throughout. Then you go up a 'hill' and do a bunch of trail stuff. We had a lot of rain yesterday so it was pretty slippery and muddy. Down the hill to a tire that you have to flip 4 times, then a log you carry down a hill and back up. Run back up the hill to the road, road to parking lot, then starts the other obstacles, tires, sack race, slip n slide, mud pit, then back out for another loop. One loop was good! Got to watch everyone else finish, then they had the kids races, just through the obstacles at the end.

Definitely would do it again!

Mel: Sounds like fun! I think I'd like the slip-n-slide best!:lmao:

Anne and Pat stopped in Philly on Friday before heading to Delaware Saturday for the 1/2 marathon on Sunday. We got to go to dinner and hang out a little. It was fun seeing them again. And they both finished the race! :cool1:

I'm mapping out a training plan that will get me moving and keep me motivated. My first goal is to lose about 20 pounds before I go on vacation in September. This year has been very hard to stay motivated for some reason. Wish me luck!

Terri

I'm going to try and keep up this week, promise!

Vicky: Neutrogena Dry Touch on the face, either Neutrogena Healthy Defense, Coppertone Sport Ultra Spray or Banana Boat Sport in the highest SPF I can find. I wish I could say I've done a lot of research on what I use, but I haven't. :sad2:

Jennifer: I'm glad to hear you're recovered and going to have a normal running week. (Sorry I missed the news of your inflammation.)

Mel: I said it on the other thread, but WTG with trying something new, DNF or not! The event looks like likes of good, if not clean, fun! :rotfl2:

Terri: Good luck on adopting that training plan that keeps you motivated and helps you lose weight before your vacation. (Losing weight has been my goal for the first part of 2009, so I empathize.) I know you're a highly determined person, so have no doubts you'll succeed. Oh, and your time with Anne and Pat must have been fun! Yay!

As for me: Just another low-mileage, maintenance running week. Need to start training for something soon. On the upside, I had the bike out this weekend and that felt really good. Even though I got passed by all the serious bicyclists on my route. And this morning I got to watch a building implode--the demolition was right next to my gym (okay, a couple of blocks away--and I interrupted my XT to watch the big moment. Yes, an exciting moment in Debra's life. :lmao:

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

"A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it." ~Alfred Hitchcock

By now, most of you have figured out I like movies. A lot. Perhaps an unhealthy amount. Nevertheless, I think it's fun to talk about movies, especially now that the summer season has started. Wolverine has been released, so has Star Trek, with many more big blockbusters soon to come.

So this week's mixer topic is, predictably enough, summer movies! The start of the mixer, posted on the 'Ohana thread, is here.

What summer movies are you looking most forward to, and why? Also, how do you like your summer movies?

Feel free to talk about how you choose your flicks: based on directors, your favorite movie star, a beloved genre? And what is your ideal movie experience? Midnight movies or matinees? Chain theaters or independents? Drive-ins? What about the movie-going extras? With or without snacks? Buttered popcorn or chocolate?

We went to the North Shore on Saturday with the intent on fishing, then coming home. Well it was so nice up there, I decided to stay and camp with my usual group of friends. That meant I missed my morning clinic run.

Well, after getting home and unpacking, I headed out for my run in the afternoon instead. 13.25 miles in 2:07:36. Lots of waterstops to make it through the miles.

Have a great week everyone.

As much as I loved the cruise I am looking forward to getting back to normal training. I am hitting the gym after work and then doing yard work today but tomorrow I am heading out on my first long run in over a week.

Mel it was a valiant effort trying something different. Maybe next year everything will work out.

Hi guys! Just wanted to pop in and say Hello. I haven't really been around since the Princess Half. Life has been way hectic. I chose to take a voluntary seperation from my job and start to substitute teach, which has been going well. We just got a new puppy and he keeps us super busy! NO time to even watch TV anymore. On the down side, Matt lost his job a few weeks ago.

Since I'm not at a desk job anymore, I barely have time to get on and check my e-mail anymore. I do think about you guys and did want to pop in and say hello.

My training had pretty much come to a halt since the Princess, but I am trying to get back into things. I may do a 5K or 10K this summer, but the next big race will be a Half Marathon at the NC Coast on the Outerbanks in November I think... We'll see.

Hope all are doing well!!!

Stacie :thumbsup2

Hey WISHers, I haven't been around much lately. Life's been weird, but I am now pregnant with #3 and officially not coming to Marathon weekend as I am due at the same time. #3 was planned, even tho my baby is 6 years old. This is going to be interesting!!!!

I am going to try to stay active, so far the tiredness isn't helping. But light jogging with a lot of walking are on tap for me. I really want to do my Rump Roast Race (for those that remember my meat race) and that is the end of September. If I am still moving at that time, I will walk the 5K. No other races planned, but I am excited for starting all over next year!

Jen, Congrats on number 3!

Stacie, I think OBX sounds like such a cool race with the whole beat the bridge thing.

As for me, I did an easy 30 minute run yesterday (3.85 miles) and a steady-state 6.5 miles at a 7:30 pace today.

I'm about 2/3 of the way done with finals which are over on Friday.

Best,
Jennifer

Hi all. I am just reporting that I went out and did 6.75 this evening. It felt good getting back to normal running after the cruise/WDW trip. No matter how much walking around Disney you do it just doesn't feel as good as a nice run...more fun of course but not as good.

Hey WISHer's. Everyone getting in their mile and reps?

I did the usual 8 1/4, 1:14:55. Followed that with a 10.05 bike ride in 50:49. Skipped the swim. :lmao:

Have a great Wednesday everyone.

Jen congrats on baby #3

Got in a 3M yesterday, been dealing with a bit of a hip flexor problem so trying to take it slow while recovering. Don't want to risk injury.

Starting to train now for a 30K at the end of August so don't want to put it and really mess it up.

Hope everyone has a great day!!!!

Hockeychic, hope the hip is okay.

I did a 45 minute tempo run. It was my first "speed work" since my half. Top speed was 6:40 (sustained for 1 mile) and average was 7:45. Got in just over 5.75 miles.

Best,
Jennifer

Hi all,

I don't post here as often as I'd like, but this week is a VERY easy week for me. This afternoon I'm doing some quick treadmill work, some hill intervals (simulating a situation I know I'm going to encounter soon in race conditions) just to get my head in the game, so to speak. A very easy paced 3 miler this evening, and possibly one more of the same tomorrow. Friday and Saturday I'm taking off, then Sunday I've got my first marathon!!!!

Hi everybody. Taking a breather in a couple of very busy days. Really looking forward to our long weekend--Friday and Monday off.

Jen Congrats on your baby. Hope you get over the fatigue and early symptoms soon.

timmac Good luck on your first marathon. Let us all know how it goes. I am interested in hearing the first-timers since I am contemplating doing the Mickey next year.

Jeff and Jennifer Hope you keep up your speedy ways!

I have been plugging along with my tri training--coming towards the end and still haven't signed up for one yet. Better take the plunge soon (oh, wait--I need a wetsuit!)

Hope everyone else is doing well. It's beautiful weather here. Need to get outside!

Maura
