Here is my first stab at a website: firstgiving.com/WISHteam I've also started an "e-Zine" sort of page that will tell great things about us that can be used to ease into the "giving" site but its no where near ready for prime time ;) NOTE: I plan to replace the old logo with the picture taken at WL last year if no one objects. Also, I plan to contact firstgiving and ask if its possible to have the wording changed from "I, me and my" to "us". They are preset for individuals.

I'd love any feedback, input anyone has on the blurb about us. Of course Cam is right there front and center :grouphug: (without names), I'd like to highlight some of the great overcomer stories we have here and use that as a spring board as to why we want to "give back" in our own gratitude.

Jodi, if you want to setup your own drive, just go to firstgiving.com and follow the instructions. I contacted the NKF and asked their opinion of fg and it was very favorable. FG charges 7.5% on the donations, but 2.5% of that goes directly to the credit card fee so they really only charge 5%. Its a safe, easy, accountable way to raise the funds.
Sunny

Sunny - The webpage looks great! When you contacted the NKF did you do that through e-mail or over the phone? I have to say after spending most of Saturday morning at the Breast Cancer run.....well, it really meant a lot! I was really touched by everything that was done - what a fabulous job they did putting everything together. :thumbsup2

Colleen, no that wasn't a typo. If you were really desperate, I am here for you. If you drive fast and the traffic is good, you can get there in 4 hours. :rotfl2: I love going to Chicago, my parents make day trips and overnight trips all the time.

LOL, Jen you got me excited! I am running Chicago this year and really don't want to pay the $250++ per night for a downtown hotel. Is the 4 1/2 hours a typo? Wouldn't that be a long commute race morning? :rotfl2:

Colleen

We are MUCH closer than 4.5 hours away from Chicago...more like a little over an hour. If I KNEW our house was going to be ready, I would tell you that you could stay with us....but if you are not opposed to possibly bringing and sleeping on an air mattress...come on over. We would love to have you. Are you doing the Chicago Marathon? Isn't that in September? I know there are a few of us doing the Chicago Distance Classic! That will be a fun one too!!!

AND, I am so tired of morons yelling out their vehicle windows when I am jogging. What compels people to be so disrespectful???

Jen - -Be very careful. Howard was out doing a long run 2 weeks ago (22 + miles) and someone threw a 1/2 full bottle of mountain dew at him from a pickup truck. Fortunately it mostly hit him on his hip and didn't cause any injury, but it really freaked me out to think someone would do something so malicious.

Kevin - Great ST plan with the running . It makes all kinds of sense to me now! :thumbsup2 BTW, so glad reason prevailed and you are taking it a bit easier this summer.

Carrie -- so glad you know now how much you contributed to DH's experience. What a sweetie!

Sunny -- There you go -- pushing it too hard again. Don't you do anything in moderation, chickie? ;) PLEASE take care of yourself. :grouphug:

I am trying to get up the energy to virtual TM with Judy in the morning, but after DD17's final concert tonight and knowing I have a late night tomorrow night for a dinner my firm is co-sponsoring, I am thinking I may sleep until 6 am. Hoping to get to the gym Friday or Saturday.

Okay Team, so I may have won the Weirdest Thing Seen While On a Run Award tonight...

It was about 10pm and DH and I saw a truck coming at us so we stepped off the road and into the grass. The truck pulled over right in front of us. I told DH, "great, they think we need a ride." But no, a Dad got out of the driver's side and an 17 or 18 year old guy got out of the passenger's side. Then 2 guys (a Dad and a teenager) came out of the house across the street. The 2 Dads stood on the side of the road while the 2 teenagers proceeded to FIST FIGHT right there in front of us! Can you believe it?!?!? The 2 boys were pounding away at each other while the Dads just stood there. One Dad said, "Well it's good that they're finally getting it out of their system." Are you kidding me??? Wow. The first thing I thought of was, "Dude, wait until I tell the WISHers about this!!!" Second thing being, "Dear God please let me get home safely!"

Scott- You are doing amazing with your workouts! What 5k are you doing this weekend? I found a super cute one up near Atlanta that I would love to do. It's in Cartersville. It's called the Duck Dash and since our last name is Drake, it would be perfect. But I refuse to make that drive for a 5k again. You are so lucky to have so many 5ks near you. I can't find a good one around here for June. :confused3 I also see you're a big Lost fan. So is my DH. Let me guess, you like 24 too???

Jodi- That dance thing was hilarious! Thanks for sharing.

Carrie- I can totally relate to your feeling like you are holding DH back. I would be in heaven if he told me he couldn't finish without me. I bet that was awesome for you! I keep trying to push myself just so we can get to a pace where he can run comfortably. He once jokingly told me, "If we run any slower we're gonna be going backwards." Ahhh...Don't you love them?!

Cam- I can't believe someone threw something at Howard! How awful. :sad2: People are nuts. Thanks for your comment about being inspiring even when I said I hated running. Knowing I made a small difference to you helped me get out there again tonight.

CJ- It sounds like you are making a wise decision to rest and let your body recover. Lord knows I would be using the race as an excuse not to get out of bed for at least a week! Your "1k @ a time" is encouraging to me. Unfortunately, I think of it as 3 minutes at a time, which is going to make for a loooooong 1/2 marathon! :rotfl2:

We just learned the number of this year's registrations for the JPMCCC in Frankfurt/Germany: 62,390
All those 62,390 runners will start at the same time and run on the same 3.5mile/5.6K-track :lmao: This means that there won't even be sufficent space for everyone to STAND on the track at 11,141 runners/Kilometer :rotfl2: My guess is that the start alone will take about an hour or so.

Wow, that is amazing Eric. So I just checked the JPMCCC website and last year Rochester, NY had 8,663 runners (it was the biggest event in our city). This year they are expecting 9,000. Actually, I had no idea the JPMCCC was such a big race. Maybe I'll finish before you on June 1st if it takes you an hour to cross the start line...

Hey all! Why is my life so crazy! Just wanted to post and say hey! Yes I am still alive and somewhat kickin! :goodvibes
Anywho wanted to post a pix of Charlotte's Special Olympic's Torch Run from Wednesday (13 miles). I got to run with CMPD...such fine people!

From L to R: Me, Mark (he has done 6 marathons in 6 months), Amy, Colleen, Pam. They are AWESOME! Sorry this is so big! Could not resize for some reason!

Hi TEAM!!!! Sorry I haven't been posting. I have taken time off since the Minnie (have still been pretty disappointed in my performance) and so now I have decided to move on and get back at it! :thumbsup2 I have a new set of xt DVD's Bootcamp from Billy Blanks. Well, I knew it would be challenging but I needed that because my WATP tapes dont do anything for me anymore. I did the basic bookcamp without the bands and I hurt from the neck down & the ankles up today :faint: But if this doesnt whip me into shape nothing will!

Viking-WOW that's alot of people. How are you even able to move?

Colleen-You will have fun at the MCM a friend of mine did it last year & really enjoyed it.

Cam-I'm glad Howard is o.k. that is unbelievable that someone did that :furious:

Hi Tiff, Good to hear from you! I really needed some down time after the Disney Marathon too, more mentally than physically. You will come out of it!
I am running Chicago, it is Sara that signed up for MCM.

Christa, good too hear from you too! BTW, you look fantastic! It was WW you used to drop that last few pounds correct? Anyway, you do look great, so healthy! :sunny:

Jen and Liz thank you so much for your offers. I am traveling with a friend so we will probably just bite the bullet and stay downtown.

Liz, do you know the downtown area? I am contemplating between the Westin River North and the Westin on Michigan Avenue. Which would you pick for location? The reviews I read said the Westin River North is nicer.

Colleen

Cam - Holy cow!!!! That is awful!!!! Send hugs to Howard for me!

Dena - DH had told me I got him thorough it, but he tends to be overly nice. ;) Him telling my parents, though, made it seem more true. When I was injured last fall, thouhg, he told me I had to get better, as he burns himself out too fast. Hopefully your dh will realize you're really helping to pace him soon! BTW - You win for stories for sure!

Jen - They whistle and such fo rus too. I'm sure it's all for dh, though. ;) Why do people think it makes them cool?

Tiff - SOunds like you're grabbing that bull by the horns. Good for you! Don't let one disappointing run get you down, though.

Eric - Wow! That's A LOT of people!

Christa - Awesome pic! Good to see you!

Paul - pd on the knee. Hopefully the new shoes will help.

I am so sorry for those of you that have struggled with your runs lately. Believe me I have been there and done that.

Jen - I know what you mean. I refuse to even run in my neighborhood because of that kind of behaviour. It amazes me that people can be so rude. That's why now I only run on the jogging trails near where I live.

Jodi - That dancing video was so funny. The saddest part is that I remember doing most of it myself!!

Dena - Hard to believe that some adults condone that type of behaviour huh? I used to have custody of my 14 year old cousin, and he got into an argument with his best friend. Well his best friends mother called me and told me she was going to drive her son to my house so that he and my cousin could fight it out. My response to which was that if she tried I would call the police. I understand that sometimes boys are going to fight, but as adults we are supposed to try and prevent it, not encourage it.

Well, I have alot to update on. Tuesday I went for a run and it felt a bit off. Every once in a while when my right foot fell my ankle would twinge a bit and hurt. And no lie, every time my feet landed and my butt jiggled it would hurt. Which I thought was really odd. Other than that my run went well. But as the day went on I started feeling worse. I started to get the chills and my whole body ached. I mean I couldn't get comfortable no matter what. My hips, knees, back, everything hurt horribly. I was running a fever of 102. So yesterday morning I woke up and my throat was sore so I went to the dr. and come to find out I got strep throat. Now the baby is running a fever and Michael isn't feeling great either. Thank goodness the antibiotics the doc gave me yesterday are starting to kick in!! It looks like I am going to miss my run today because there is no way I am feeling good enough to run. Hopefully I'll feel better by Saturday.

Good news now!! David and I are buying a new house!! David does irrigation in new housing subdivisions, and he was working on this one house and wanted me to come see it because he liked the floor plan. Well I went and saw it and really liked it, so I went to another neighborhood to see if they had any that were completely built. They had one that was completely finished, and the people who had the house built couldn't fulfill the contract so the house was available again, at the price that the original people would have paid. Well, I fell in love with it. It has a huge back yard, a 3 car garage, the neighborhood is going to have running trails, I am so excited. We go to fill out all of the paperwork on Friday, and we'll close in about 2 weeks!!

Dana....GREAT news on the house....PD for your strep though :( You guys have really been battling the illness this spring. Hopefully you'll feel better soon and that will be the end of sickness for a while!!! :wizard:

Cam....That story about DH getting a bottle thrown at him is awful :guilty: . One day a bunch of teens swerved at me when I was running then beeped and made fools of themselves. It's not as if running isn't hard enough....but then it can become a riot zone with these idiots :furious: . Luckily I refrained from doing anything stupid, no hand gestures or cursing  , and I'm a nice girl really but the thought did cross my mind LOL. Anyway...sorry to hear that happened to him b/c he really could have been hurt badly!

Christa....Thanks for sharing the pics. You look amazing!!!

Carrie and Kevin....Thanks to both of you for putting my bad run into perspective. I have to say it really helped me knowing that this is part of the normal process!

Sunny....Hope you're feeling better today! Pixie Dust for that pneumonia...it's nothing to mess with!!!! :wizard:

Jodi....THANKS for the great video clip. It was so funny...that guy was great!

So I signed up for two races in June....one is a 5 mile trail run that is known to be challenging. The best part is that the last place finisher gets a prize called the "No Guts No Glory". I may just win that one LOL! The other race is a local 5K.

Today I ran 4 miles in just over 40 minutes, so overall a much more successful run. I'm still playing around with the Garmin and had it set to interval runs of 5:1. Well, I didn't realize that would mess with my mile splits LOL so I have no idea what each split worked out to be. I just know my avg. was around 10:20 mpm and my best was 9:17?! :confused3 I'm baffled by technology LOL!

You know, the funny thing is that none of us got sick at all last year. Except for normal colds we were fine. This year has just been one sickness after another. I think it might be the kidcare at the gym. Ever since we started going there in January we have been sick constantly. I am a SAHM so my kids haven't been exposed to all the germs at schools and daycares until now. I hope that this will be the end of it. I am not happy about missing my run today!! Unlike some of you guys here I am not burnt out yet, and really miss it when I don't get to run!! :guilty:

Jodi, that dance video is so funny...wish I could dance that well. lol

Sounds like everyone is doing great with their training..you all inspire me to keep going and to have fun with it :cool1: :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the support!

Greetings everyone. I'm annoyed with myself this morning because I overslept and did not train. Now I will feel antsy and crabby all day. Well, I suppose no one will notice the difference.

Anyone near Naples, Florida, or know anything about it? DH wants to go there to look at some property for sale. His friend lives there and has been telling us about it. We're considering it. :wizard: Hey, it's that much closer to WDW!

Sara - Marines? Always so handsome in their uniforms....Tempting, very tempting.... :goodvibes

Sunny & Scott - Geez, I'm so out of the loop on these things. I've heard of Lost but I know nothing about it! The only thing I watch is Golden Girls! :teeth:

Cam - OMG! Someone threw something at Howard??? :furious: Oh people really make me mad sometimes! I can't believe that! I was just telling DH last night I really need to get in some "pavement time" but I am nervous about going out alone. And stuff like this is why! Oh and BTW, I didn't get to bed until almost 11 last night so I don't even remember turning off my alarm at 4:30. I must have still been asleep when I did it. Then I didn't wake up until 6:20. Needless to say, I did not train this morning. And now I am so aggravated about it! I MUST MUST MUST get to sleep by 9. I just have to. I'm sorry Cam, I wasn't up early enough to send you training vibes.

Dena - OMG! Ok, I'm starting to think now ALL my training will be on the TM! :sad2:

Eric - Holy cow! :faint: What a mad house!

Christa - Hi! :wave2: We miss you!

Dana - Wow! Congratulations on the house! :thumbsup2 We want pics!!!

Judy

Ok, well here's the floor plan.

There are so many upgrades in this house it is ridiculous. We had actually been looking at new houses for almost 4 years. And no matter what there was always something wrong with every one we found. This one is perfect though. It has an open floor plan, a huge yard, the HOA doesn't have a restriction about commercial vehicles (which was a big deal since DH owns his own company), and it has wonderful schools. The funny thing is that I walked in almost immediately after they released it for sale!! It seems as if this was just fate!!

Dana-congrats on the house. Things have a funny way of working out, dont they ? :cool1:

Colleen-oops, wrong response, but I know you'll have fun in Chicago too. :teeth: Great city!

Krista-great to hear from you, love the pic!

People yelling at me when I run make me so mad... I just want to yell "Didn't your momma teach you any manors?" But then I come to senses and just tell myself to zip it!!

SOOOO... apparently there IS a running group in my city. I have looked and looked and today there was an article in the paper about them. I have sent an email, so I hope I get a response. And apparently there are way more races and runs available that I didn't even know about. Everything is so secretive, I just want to be in on it. So hopefully the group will get back to me and I can have some in-person running buddies. Not that all you wonderful on-line buddies aren't good enough.... I still love ya!!!

Cam - You are so right! People throw stuff and yell at me when I run ...but mostly when I ride my bike. People can be so stupid. I think they get mad when they have to be behind me on the bike...let them tri going up a steep hill on a bike or running. School busses are the worst!

Colleen - Yes..WW helped me loose 30+ lbs. I do core now b/c it lets me eat as much as I want of healthy foods. I do cheat sometimes though. Normally I end up with 66 points left at the end of the week..but not always..it depends on if I have oreos in the house!

Andromedaslove - Love the house plans!

OHHHH..I got a new job! :cool1: I am a contract counselor with a program called 2nd to none. Will be doing family counseling! So exciting!
