Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Happy Mother's Day! :hippie:

I did 4 miles today at a 13:14 pace. I've decided I'm too anal retentive to just go out and run without a training schedule, so I've devised a plan. I like running for distance rather than time so I'm going to start with 2 SR of 3 miles each then have my LR as 4 miles. I'll try to work up to 4,4,5 while increasing my running intervals. I'd like to be up to R4/W1 or better by the time I need to start training for the half.

Paul...how's the knee?

jodi...congrats on your 5K! :cheer2: Excellent pace!

Colleen...congrats on your spontaneous half! Vancouver's definitely on my list of places I'd love to visit

Terri...let us know how you like your Loco shoes. I keep looking at them, but haven't bought any yet. I'm hoping for one of those races in my area where they give away a free pair of shoes.

MelR...what's next on your schedule?

Craig...where are ya, dude?

Dena...I think the Walmart workout definitely qualifies as cross-training...especially the day after Thanksgiving ;)

Scott...great pace! Looks like you're all set for the Peachtree!

Cam...thanks for the input on the food court at POFQ. Loved your race report!

Oh...and DD13 has the bug now! I'll be mailing her half registration tomorrow. She'll just make the cut...her 14th birthday is Dec 28! She feels that if she starts now, she'll either win it all or place well in her age group in a couple years! That means we'll have to start staying over Sunday night to attend the awards ceremony :thumbsup2

This looks like a cool 5K for anyone in Lowell, MA next month:

Kristi- You should have said something! That most likely was me as I had that bag for dry/wet clothes and my friend that was doing her first half mary drove so it was her red/maroon olds w/ NY plates.

Big Lake Half Marathon report- rain, rain, rain. Cold rain, teeth chattering waiting for the bus post-race rain. Otherwise it was a great race. We did a 2:10:34 which is an awesome first half mary time for Maureen and felt really easy for me. HR was low and so was RPE all day. Probably could have run sub 2 hours if I had pushed it but that wasn't what today was about. Course was hilly w/ the longest section starting up a bit before mile 4 and topping out a bit after mile 6. Wish we could have seen something other than clouds/rain at the scenic view spots to make the climb worth it. Then after the turn around there were some short steeper hills. The downhills were kind of nasty w/ the dirt from the run off from the rain in this section. There were themes to the aid stations w/ water, gatorade, and carb-boom gel. Lots of musicians out providing entertainment staying as dry as they could. Overall, a really well run race. The most disappointing thing was that I was too cold to try some of the homemade Jordan ice cream post race :teeth:

Jodi- great job on your 5K
Colleen- isn't Vancouver awesome? I love Stanley Park and the aquarium and totems there. Nice pace for your half mary too!
Mel/Chimera- nice pace for your 4 miler. Remember to build 'recovery' weeks in there too. My mom will tell you to be careful that you're going to create a monster. Next thing you know she'll be going Goofy.

Looks like lots of people have had some good training runs this weekend and here's hoping that everyone else does too.

Sunny -- I am so worried about you, sweetie. Please take care of yourself.  :goodvibes: pixiedust:

Dave -- I know you aren't here, but I want you to know I am thinking of you.

Mel -- I am so glad your DD is going to do the half! I hope she exploited her bragging rights this week! :teeth:

Jodi -- Congrats on your great finish time! Great pix! You are as adorable as I'd pictured! So, that is what another WW lifetimer looks like! I'll keep looking at yours and Sunny's pix for inspiration! :cool1:

Happy Mother's Day :goodvibes

That is really cool that she has an interest in running.

Xterratri - Congrats on the run, too bad it was that rainy!

Cam, what great compliements :cloud9: Don't worry you will make it to Lifetime :cheer2: If I remember correctly you were in the Minnie pictures, right? You look great :goodvibes

I will check back later today to see how everyone is doing :)

Just wanted to check in to wish all moms a very, very happy Mother's day.

Nothing new to report as I have been off for a few days due to a bit of a health scare that I do not wish to go into until all is confirmed. Good training and PD to all dealing with injuries.

Good morning and Happy Mother's Day!

Jodi - Great time on your 5K!

Mike - Hope everything's okay.

DH and I (and dog) went for a 2 mile walk this morning. (I actually jogged a little to see how the shins felt.) The pace wasn't great - the dog definitely slows things down - geese, squirrels, WAY too much wildlife on the trail! I felt pretty good, but I'm icing (thanks, Dave!) now just to be safe.

SHOOT! I just knew that had to be you! I was sitting in our minivan with NH plates "OFF2WDW" while Chad ran into the school to change. And the car I saw did have NY plates. I even ended up behind you guys leaving the school! The only thing that made me doubt it a bit was the NY license plates.

Chad finished just after you also. He was somewhere around 2:15.

Licensing cars in ME=expensive. Also the Gecko told me that my insurance would go up too.(I really am insured through Geico-decent military rates) So we both drive cars w/ NY license plates as I'm from the Syracuse area and she's from the Rochester area(Henrietta I think Dave). Time spent in various states last year: ME>TX>FL>NY. I even voted in ME but am still technically a NY resident. This year will be ME=NY>FL because I'll be back in NY to start clinicals in July.

Congrats to Chad on a good run.

PD for Sunny and Mike. Get better soon. :wizard:

Happy Mother's Day!

Today's workout- 35.59 mile ride in 20-30 mph winds and rain from mile 7 on. Arggh! I can't wait until I'm in FL again in 5 days- I just hope I don't melt while racing.

After giving myself 6 days off since the Minnie - I did 2 miles today via Leslie Sansone. I don't know if taking almost a week off was good or bad - but it helped me get alot done around the house. This working out thing eats up alot of my time! ;)

I also think part of my "time off" is being downright depressed about Weight Watchers. I went Weds night and was up 1.4 lbs. After doing the Minnie even. I have been at a plateau with WW for 10 months! I started this whole exercise-and-do-the-Minnie-15k thing to break the plateau - and it didn't happen. I am just at a loss of what to do. I am so happy to be at the weight I am at - but I am still about 8 lbs. above where WW wants me to be. I am seriously considering asking my doctor to write me a note saying I am at a healthy weight for me (who knows if he'll do it though). I am so sick of paying WW and nothing happening. Nevermind weighing every morsel and writing every single thing I put in my mouth down. But I do know, if I stop going, I will end up gaining again. So, I will keep going & paying. It's just getting pretty darn depressing. I will call my doctor Monday and ask for a new round of thyroid tests just to be sure that isn't the culprit. With any luck, I'll be able to up my levoxyl and start losing again. Then again, my thyroid being off again, is not really a good thing is it? ;)

Sorry for the vent - I feel much better now!

I feel like it has been forever since I have posted. I think my last post was my 5K report. I haven't ran since. My life the last 3 weeks has been unbelievably crazy.

We decided to go camping this weekend for Mothers Day and it rained the whole time and the highs were maybe 50, but no higher. The nights were wet and cold. I so wanted to run the campground, but no luck on that. Now I am hoping to start back tomorrow. Please send me pixie dust so I can find time and motivation!!!

Now I have to back track and catch up on everything...

Well my mileage for the past week was extremely pathetic! I think the week before was 22 miles in the week thanks to taking the dog to park almost every day plus 1 long walk.

This past week I think I managed to get 1 day of a 3 miler in the rest were all 1 mile or less thanks to the rain and flooding at the park. Tonight we tried again to get in 3 miles with the dog (corgi, she is doing well with 3 to 3.5). But we had to turn around when we started to hear thunder and knew that we shouldn't go to the turn around or we'd have been waterlogged.

There was some good tonight, I ran farther. There is a section that I've been running and each time I add a bit more and tonight I did pretty good and did another on the return. So I'm learning to have faith in myself that I can run.

Xterrati congrats on the race!!!! :cheer2: Yuck on the rain!

Jackie, we totally understand on the squirrels. Ours does ok on lone walks sometimes stopping and putting enough into holding her stance that she brings us to a standstill but it seems only with squirrels and typically in the same places. We try for once a week that my racing/training partner and her DH join us with their 2 dogs. Those days are REALLY slow. But those are the Dog Days of training ;) We get 3 miles regardless, the dogs get to sniff everything at their pace and the DHs ramble along behind talking. And everyone is happy :thumbsup2

I hope everyone else is having better weather :umbrella:

Mel - Great pace on your run! I like your training plan, too. I'm going to start shorter mileage and try to increase running intervals, too. Keep up the great work! And YEA for your DD - she'll be awesome at the half!!! :cool1:

Lynne - Great job on the race! Can you bring some of that rain when you come to FL??? ;) Good luck this weekend on the HalfIM!!! I can't wait to hear all about it! I'll post more about the Danskin at the end of the post, but thanks so much for all of your advice and inspiration - I think I am hooked on tris! :goodvibes

GoofyGuy - :wizard: for a good health report!!!!

Jackie - Great job on your walk! I can't imagine taking my dog on a walk with all that wildlife! Although, I think it would be a great upper body workout to try to hold him back from chasing everything! :rotfl2:

Kristi - Great job on your workout! :grouphug: for the plateau - it is soooo frustrating! I hope your doctor can help you figure it out. Maybe your ideal body weight is where you are right now. How do you feel? Feel free to vent here anytime. Oh - and good for you getting the housework done... my hubby probably wishes I would do the same thing... :lmao:

Jen - :wizard: :wizard: for lots of motivation!!! And congrats on your race!!! You can do it!

Diane - Good job on increasing your run! You are doing great! :cheer2:

I can now say...

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I AM A TRIATHLETE! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

The Danskin Tri was sooooo awesome! Everyone was so encouraging and Sally Edwards is just an amazing woman. She got us so pumped up in the pre-race sessions. She talked alot about getting the "monkeys" off our backs - the self-doubt, fear, etc. Plus, she joined each wave in the water before we went to give another pep-talk. For so many of these women, it really wasn't about the finish time - it was about finding inner strength, doing what you thought was impossible, and believing in yourself. My personal goal was to 1. finish and 2. finish in 1:30. I crossed the line at 1:29 (and that included a horrible 1st transition.) Yea!!! I'm already looking for other sprint tris this summer - preferably women's tris. :goodvibes

We were also celebrating DS's 3rd birthday. It was a great weekend - there were magical moments around every turn. Here's a quick story... When I got home from the Minnie, I discovered my keychain ring was broken (in the package still). So, Friday afternoon we went to WWoS store to see if they had any more. The manager ran over to the main building where they were boxed up to find another one. While we waited, another worker started playing football with DS in the store. When we told him it was his bday, he ran around the counter and came out with a HUGE medal (from 2002) and presented it to DS as his special bday medal. :lovestruc We played football some more, then the other worker said "Hey! There's someone on the phone for DS." It was Goofy wishing him a happy birthday. WOW!!! :cloud9: This was just one of so many special moments - I love DISNEY!!!!!

Hope everyone has a great day - happy training!!!

--Lynnda :teeth:

Lynnda: WOW! :cheer2: Wonderful job with the tri! I'm sooo impressed....that is really amazing. Someday maybe I'd like to go for that...I've got to get this running thing down first LOL! I'm so proud of you :).

Mel: Great pace!!!

Lynn: Wonderful effort on the half in the rain!!! Sounds like you guys had a a great pace going! I find that I run better in the rain for some reason? LOL!

Kristi: :grouphug: I think you should talk with your doctor. It sounds like you feel good, you are certainly healthy and exercising...so worrying about those extra lbs might not even be worth it! Hang in there...But I do think you sound like you are in a GREAT place right now!!!!

Jen: It seems we ALWAYS end up camping in the rain LOL! I don't know what it's like to camp when it's nice out ;) . I hope you had a great time despite the weather!!!

Diane: Sounds like you've been putting in the miles!!! Wow!!! I know this week wasn't where you wanted it but overall sounds like you're doing fabulous!

Mike: :grouphug: Hope all is well with you! Please check in when you get a chance, we're all a bit worried about you now.

The good news....I ordered my Garmin 301 from R.E.I. They had a good promotion and I couldn't beat the $149.99 price tag. A friend loaned me his Garmin to use this week and I got to try it out on road and trail with no problems at all. So that is my good news.

The bad(ish) news....I woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday with horrible pains in my stomach. Ended up with either a quick stomach bug or possibly food poisoning?! Either way...wasn't feeling great all night! I was so darn mad b/c my Mother's Day gift to myself was a 6 mile road/trail run trying out the Garmin. I was sure that would be curtailed after the night's events. I slept in late on Sunday and drug myself out of bed. Hydrated a bid and ate a bagel...since all seemed ok I set out for my 6 mile run with the intention of stopping and walking home if I felt awful. I actually felt okay....but my energy levels dropped drastically after 4 miles and the last two miles were a test of my will power to get home LOL. I did 5:1 run:walk intervals and managed a 10:39 mpm avg. I was really hoping to break 60 minutes but that was asking too much after the night before so I'm just happy I finished. And I'm really psyched that the Garmin worked....even on the tree covered trail which accounted for about half the run!

Garmin question :confused3 .....how do I set it to record mile splits? I only got an avg. mpm and couldn't find the mile splits? I figure I need to set it but without the manual I'm at a loss. TIA!!!!

Lynnda --- Congrats! You truly are a tri  :cheer2: :thumbsup2 :woohoo: That is so awsome! I'm glad it was such a positive experience for you.

Lynn- my hats off to you for braving this rain. Great job!

Licensing cars in ME is expensive? You should try MASS! Its costing us $2,400 to put DD on for her first year. And that only includes her as a driver on her own junk car. The cost of having her on all three of our cars was astronomical.

Lahey Clinic just called to confirm the pneumonia from the x-rays and tell me its quite bad. She said I will most likely be out of commision for a couple of weeks. Well that is totally unacceptable so I hope she is quite wrong.

Sunny

Sunny - I'm so sorry to hear about your x/ray! I do hope you are able to get some rest.

Amy Beth - Re your garmin question, you set the auto lap function to work every mile, or you can push the lap button at every mile marker. I really like the auto lap better, b/c then i don't have to remember. I can't remember exactly how to do it, but if you push the menu button, it should be pretty easy to find.

Lynnda - CONGRATS Triathlete!!! Great job on finishing your race!

Mike - Hope you get a good report soon.

Greetings all on this grey Monday morning. :goodvibes

I'm struggling with my training schedule. Friday morning I was tooooo tired to get up at 4:30 so I slept in and traded my rest day on Sat with Fri. Which was fine. But then on Sunday, which should be my LW day...well, it was raining and DH wanted to sleep in.....so I didn't get up early thinking I could do it later. Wrong! We got busy then we took MIL out then it got late and well, it just didn't happen. I've been missing my LWs a lot lately. :rolleyes2 I guess I just HAVE to get up and just get going!

Having said all that, Saturdays and this mornings training went really well. :thumbsup2 I'm very happy with the little bit of running I have added onto the end. Except for one thing......running, well.....makes my butt jiggle. Go ahead, laugh, but I can tell exactly where the big bunch of fat is on my behind. I can feel it when I run. I need to turn that blubber into muscle. What about if I up the incline on the TM? Does that work the butt muscles? (I'm assuming I HAVE muscles under all that flab!)

Sunny - Oh my goodness! I hope you are feeling better. :wizard: Thank goodness you found out what was going on and now you can take care of it.

Mel - Wow, that's cool about DD doing the Half. You tell her "Way to go, girl!!" from us. :cheer2:

Xterritri - Rain rain go away! Congratulations! :thumbsup2 See? even under those conditions you still did awesome!

Mike - :wizard: that everything is OK. We are thinking of you....

Jackie - Ohhh, hope the shins are better now. Dogs are no help! paw: This is about exercise, puppy, not a nature walk! :teeth:

Kristi - I hear you about the WW struggle. I am really at wit's end with it right now. :guilty:

Lynnda - Go go, girl! :cheer2: You ARE a tri-athlete! And how cute about Goofy calling DS! I love Disney.... :goodvibes

Amy - Ohhh, sorry about the stomach thing. Hope you feel better today. :flower3:

I probably missed his post but where is Dave?? :confused3 I miss his posts.

Ohhhh...I got an email from Disney about the Marathon. Cool! :smooth: It feels "official" now.

Judy

thanks guys,

I'm using the down time to get busy on shirt designs :teeth:

OK, Hold your hats for my quarterly update of darn near everyone (Please forgive me if I missed you!):

Mike - Hope you're OK!!

Dave - It's been a while, must be busy trainign and doing shirts! ;)

Krista - Awesome pics!!! I met with a client Thur and he was telling me that (let's just say distant relative rwice removed) did a marathon in CInci last week. Of course, it was FP, I thought of you!

Maherae - COngrats!!! Oh, and teh aliens comment gave me a great giggle!

Jackie - This is probably way outdated, but did you check the lost & found fo ryour finish pic? Hope the shins feel better soon!

jodi -Awesome 5 K pics! CIongrats! Cool about dh's surprise trip!

Nancy - Awesome that your dh is hooked! Send him over here!

Colleen - Woo hoo! You da' woman!!! I would not have survived the time change, let alone the half and teh following red eye!

Dana - COngrats fr oconquering the BF HIll!! GREAT pace!! Hope your shins get better soon!

Kevin -I hear you on the rain! I'm soo tired of it! Hope life gets better soon!

Cam - :grouphug: Hope your weekedn went as good as it could. :grouphug:

Pat -Woo hoo! Another full-er for 07!!!!

Karen - Saying prayers for your friend'dd. At least she has a good friend watching out for her! :grouphug:

Sunny - YIKES!!!!!! You take it easy!!!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug:

Jen - SOrry about the soggy camping. Yuck! (And I thought the rain when I'm in a house was bad) :wizard: :wizard: fo rmotivation!

Judy - COngrats on the good training day! That makes a huge difference!

Amy - Cool that you're so strong! ;-) I believe menu, training asst, auto lap will get you the 1 mile auto lap feature. PM me if you need help! Hope your hip (and stomach) are feeling better soon!

Scott - Woo hoo! Awesome 5.5-mile!

Lily - Hope your schedule gets better soon! We miss you! :goodvibes

Kristi & Lynne -I can't believe you were so close & missed each other! Bummer!!

Lynne - Isn't this 3 weeks in a row for you????

Kristi - Wow, spectating in the rain is dedication! Hope your dh apprecitaed it!

Mel - SOunds liek a great plan. I tend ot like distance more than time, myself, as running faster does not help you on a timed run. Then again, for a stonker, at least you know when you can stop. ;-) BTW, I think your PF is better, but I saw socks fo rPF in a runnign store Saturday. HAve you looked into those? Woo hoo on your dd doing the half!!!

I have not trained since last Saturday ?. Heck of a week last week! DH and I have a 6-mile run in Mackinaw in 2 weeks. This week has got to get better. (Famous last words, as there'll be no running tonight. :(

I did buy new shoes, though. :teeth: How did I walk in teh store looking for teh Kyotos and end up with the Kienas??????? OMG! They felt so cozy on my feet that I could not give them up! Not to mentin, teh cute 17 YO who sold them to me ran his first marathon last POctober. He just glowed when he told us about it! So cute and reminded me of my marathon and I think I was just put into a trance or something. ;) can't wait to try my new shoes!

Have a great week everybody!!!
