Wk of May 13--WISH Walking/Running Club

Lily-- I hope you are doing okay, sweetie!

Did 60 minutes of walk 3 (at 4.0-4.2)/jog 1 (at 5.2) and managed 4.4 miles (overall pace of 13:38). Not breaking any land speed records, but I figure that gets me to a finish at CDC in less than 3 hours, if I can maintain the speed and build endurance between now and then. It is certainly a goal to shoot for, don't you think? :goodvibes

I will host a soiree in Mike's honor, anyplace he likes, as many drinks as he likes, plus food to sop up the drinks. Everyone is welcome, but it's my treat for all the drink and food consumed by our favorite comic, the Optimator.
Let's see... Victoria and Albert's has enough space for a little WISH gathering, don't you think? The meal with wine pairing is fabulous!

Craig- Maybe if you didn't expend so much glucose working all the math in your head while you're running you could pick up your pace!
:lmao: :lmao: Hey Craig, nevermind about V & A's. You're taking hits from everyone. Your dept has been paid! (Nice one, Kiena!)

I had my endoscopay and dilatation procedure today as outpatient so I was off today (for real). Finally not feeling loopy and it’s bed time. Oh well, I think I need sleep.
Wow - I never knew anyone else who had an endoscopy & dilations!
Actually, they have given up dilating me. Now, they just do a look-see every couple years.

I hope you are less loopy today, Lily! :)

I am determined to do some sort of exercise today.
I have been a slug since last week & I feel lousy!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I had an OK run yesterday. I did 4.5 miles in 42:34 min for 9:28 mpm pace. It was very warm out there. The run was just OK because I decided to go without my MP3 player. However, since I ran after work, my mind was just going over and over work stuff, and it wasn't very relaxing. I think for afternoon runs I need to have some music to distract me. After my run, I did another 1.36 miles with my girls, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:.

We're in the final week of 5K training. The race is Sunday, we're running in the Lilac Festival 5K. They also have a 10K that goes right through our neighborhood and right past our house. I ran in that last year and afterwards was so excited I signed up for the marathon. I'm so excited for the girl's race. I hope it's a good experience for them.

OK, I'm off to catch up with everyone now.

Training finally started up again last night. I went 5 miles with a 10:38 pace. There wasn't any smoke in the area but there were brief bits of rain. Mainly just enough to make it humid and make sure I was wet but not enough to cool me off. Unfortuenately about half way through, there was cloud lightening. Since I was about as far away from my house as possible, I just hoped it wouldn't thunder so I could still run with Disney's rule.

Kristi - Hope you can get out today and do something. Although it was nice taking a break last week.

Mike - I forgot to tell you it was good to meet your wife last week and great job on the marathon time. I'll have to make sure to meet you during the Wish meets because there is no way I will ever see you on the course.

Cam - Great job on the training. That is a great goal and I am fully confident that you will be able to break it easily. Great job on the race as well.

Lily - Hope you are feeling better today. That sounds quite unpleasant.

Craig - Here I thought you were a finance professor. Although anyone who can turn a finance test into Shakespeare either is hopelessly lost or deserves a doctorate. As for your speedy student, maybe you can retroactively change her grade to account for showing up the professor.

Jen - Hope your back is feeling better.

Christa - Glad DD is feeling better. That is a fantastic time for the treadmill. You are doing great.

Stacey - Great job for signing up for more races. Putting down the entrance fee is a great motivator during training.

HM - Great job on the run this weekend. Hope you had fun at the celebration as well.

Vicki - I took the week off as well and enjoyed it fully. Great job on getting back into training.

Stephanie - Hope your mom is doing better.

Dana - You can keep all your smoke to yourself if you don't mind. ;) My in-laws just made it through 95 before they closed it. They saw all the trucks heading towards the problem spots. I think a trip to Epcot is defianately deserved.

Maria - Great to see you again. Hope you keep posting now that you are back.

Martha - That method of grading might actually explain the grades on some of my papers. :lmao: I never could figure out how they came up with the grades sometimes.

Mel - Glad DD is ok. We put Billy into swimming classes when he was young and they finally seem to be taking hold. I guess you were able to get your speedwork in on Sunday.

Shan - I hate it when I run farther but the pace goes down. I just takes a while to get used to running farther at a faster pace but it will get better with time.

Kevin - Glad you are getting back into the training. The long run on the deck of the Magic sounds like it could be interesting. I would be afraid of losing count on the laps for that distance.

Better get to work now since I do seem to enjoy the paycheck they send me every now and then.

Bill

Good Morning Team:

Maria- Welcome back. Good for you for keeping up with the training. Don't worry about keeping up with the thread. Just post when you can.

Jen/patsfaninpa- Welcome to the TEAM!!! Good luck in your training, and sticking with it. It's always good to have new members.

Kevin- Wow, I don't think I could do three days of running in a row. My legs would rebel at that. Although, I know you are doing Goofy training so I guess you have to do what you have to do. Thanks for the Toronto advice, I may hit you up for more planning questions when we finally take a trip.

Shan- I hope your daughter is doing better. How sad that she had to miss the field trip. She sounds like she was devastated. Good job on keeping up with your running.

Cam- Congratulations on the 5K! You're doing great! Nice job on getting 60 min of training in yesterday. That's awesome.

Mel- Wow, so glad you were right there to get DD4 out of the pool. How scary! :scared1:

Martha- Whoo hoooo! Congratulations on signing up for the marathon. Yes, Carrie's advice is great. Don't think about the whole thing. Just think about the mileage you have to do this week and take it one mile at a time.

Carrie- I hope your legs are doing OK.

Dana- I see you've kept your new found speed. Great job. Take care with the fires out there.

Stephanie- Good job getting your 3 miler in.

Vicki- Just post whenever you can. We always like hearing from you.

HMHunters- Good job on the 8 miler. Wow, grandma's 103rd b-day! That is awesome. My DW's grandma had her b-day this weekend too and she's 99.

Kristi- Sounds like you need a race to plan for. Don't beat yourself up too much about not training after Minnie. You do need to give yourself some time to rest. Oooh, scary that Chad found a tick on him. Not good in your neck of the woods. We used to have to pick them off our dog in Vermont, and that was even with the tick repellent.

Christa- I'm surprised you're using the dreadmill. Is it getting too hot there in NC, or are you trying to really control your pace? Wow, you did 8 mpm pace and 40 min for 5 miles. Good for you, looks like you're ready to break that 8 mpm pace for your 5K. You go girl and tear up that course. Glad your DD is OK, but grrrrrroooosss about that tick.

Jen- Sorry your back is still bothering you. Are you going to be OK for your half marathon this weekend? Anyway you can get to a pool sometime? That might take some pressure off your back and help things. Also, sorry to hear your DH has hurt his knee. Had he signed up for any races at Disney - is he definitely not running anymore?

Craig- sounds like you are at the end of your rope with the end of the semester. Hang in there.

Lily- Wow, I was really close to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park last weekend. The Cool Aunt lives in Cleveland Heights (is a professor at Case), and I wanted to ask her if she ever went to the park. I think we need a Cleveland race to train for sometime. Take care recovering from your endoscopy.

Bill- good for you for getting your 5 miles in. That's awesome. Hope all is well with the new baby.

Hi Colleen

Melissa :hippie: are you out there? Hope everything is going well with you and your family.

Steve and Krista- Thinking of you two, hope you're having fun at WDW.

Nah, it's not too hot here yet...actually it was really nice here yesterday. The dreadmill is b/c of time issues. I had meetings yesterday :headache: so I ran right b/4 I picked up DDs from school. Actually the dreadmill is great b/c there are no hills.....:rotfl: My 5k, however, is VERY HILLY! :sad2: So we will see.
Dave that was a great time for your run...your post reminded me of the Propel ad on TV where the guy is running and it looks like a monster @ first with all the things in life on him...and at the end, all of it has fallen off and he is a normal guy...do you know the one?

Bill - WTG on that run! You are really doing great...I mean WOW having a new baby and still training...I couldn't do it....

THis is the last week of school for DDs....I LOVE summer break and LOVE doing fun things with my girls, but it messes up my training b/c DDs are home.....how selfish is that? But I find that if I miss a WO, I am like a JRT in running mode...have you ever seen them when they go into it and run back and forth like a mad animal.....I guess it is to get out energy.:lmao:

Jen: they have a special upload for a picture in the signature. It allows you to upload from your hard drive. Unfortunately, that doesn't work for this part of the thread which I cannot understand or maybe I just cannot figure out how to get it to work. Go to the "User CP" link and click on Edit Signature. Towards the bottom of that page is a place to upload a picture with your signature.

Carrie: you're right. I cannot think about the miles or it'll be overwhelming. One step at a time.

Dana: :scared1: those fires are scary!! Good luck on getting the mileage in!

Christa: you pace always amazes me. What race is up next for you?

Stephanie: how was the mini-massage? Massage of any kind is wonderful!

Vicki: I took 4 days off after the Minnie. I felt I'd earned it. But with the Leadville half coming in 2 months I needed to get back out there. I'll be taking a hiatus in a couple weeks when we go to Italy but we walk so much on vacation that it'll be close to a workout!

HMHunters: congrats on the run and amazing Grandmother! 103!?! Wow!

Stacey: good luck with the RFTT. Have you signed up for the Tot? Hmmm? You wanna do it, you know. You do....

Lily: take care of yourself!

Dave: mucho good luck to your DDs this weekend!! I hope they have a bling for this race and you MUST take pictures!

Bill: stay away from the fires!! And the lightening. And the alligators. Oh heck, maybe you should just run on a TM!

MIL comes in today. We usually try to guess the over/under for her making DH crazy. It's usually an hour. Last summer it was 10 minutes. Well, this time, it was -21 hours. You got that right--21 hours BEFORE she even arrived he wanted to kill her. She kept babbling on about inane things like where they were going to park at DFW airport! Why on earth would I care where she parks at DFW airport!?! And did you know that you can check in online? Go figure. I've only been doing that for several years now but I guess it's news to her. Oh wait, she's driving ME nuts now!! Aaaarrrrggghhh!!!

I am calm, I am calm, I am calm......

Morning team. Today is a rest day for me. As much resting as I can do with 3 kids under 4 to watch today!;)

Christa--I agree with Dave--you are so ready to break those 8min miles in your 5K!:thumbsup2 I totally feel selfish everyday when I'm bummed about missing a WO b/c of the kiddos. Luckily, I have a nice daycare at our gym,and the kids love going.

Cam--WTG on your workout!

Lily-take it easy after the endoscopy. The next timewe're up in NE Ohio we'll have to check out the park--wait a min. next time we're gonna be up there will be the Akron marathon--maybe the trip after that!;)

Martha--good luck keeping your sanity! Besides MIL driving you crazy, I hope graduation week is wonderful!

Bill--good job getting the training in--glad the weather didn't turn too bad for you!

Dave--good job getting your run in, even though it wasn't the greatest. It's really hot here already,a nd I can't imagine what it will be like in July/August!:scared1: I think I'll be spending a lot of time on the TM. Good luck to your DDs this weekend!

Thought I would post a pic of my dsis and I post race this past weekend!
P5120012_edited.jpg

I'm the one on the right! Have a great Tuesday all!

Dave - Don't worry too much about me. I have a back injury that is aggrevated every once in awhile, usually when I don't want it to be. Also, the Pod told me that my new orthotics could cause pain elsewhere as my body adjusts to them. I don't wear them everyday, but I do wear them every time I run. So who knows. My back is not at it's worst, so I think by the weekend I will be OK. As for DH, we both fear that surgery is finally looming. He was told in HS that he would need surgery eventually. The running didn't injure his knee tho, he feel down the steps at home and that is was did the final wooozy on it.

Stephanie - Great Pic!!

Cam - You are booking along. I don't know if I will be able to keep up with you at CDC!!!!

Christa - My DD has school thru the week of June 4th. Your kids are lucky!!!

Today is my birthday. I'm a little sad as I get older every year. I rarely have good birthdays because my family never really celebrated them. Tonight I have to run the girls to swim class then to a meeting, so it won't be very magical!

Happy Birthday Jen!!!

Take a few minutes for yourself and have a magical moment all of your own (I know, spoken like a DH who has neglected a birthday or two in his day!)

Thanks for the image Christa, I do know that ad, and should try to keep it in mind when I run. I guess I didn't run far enough because all the things life piled up on me didn't fall off yet. But you know what, when I ran with my princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, everything finally fell away. I can't believe they are in their last week of school. That is great! I don't like how the schools go so late here in New York. Kids don't get out until the end of June. I think they should get rid of the two different week long breaks in the Spring and get the kids out earlier.

Jen- Happy Birthday!!! :cake: :bday: :cake: party: :bday: party: I hope you have a great day!

I put this on the Community Board, but thought I'd share it here, too. DH was victim of a hit-n-run yesterday.

The good news: No brain damage, no spinal damage, no organ damage.

The bad news: DH broke his left collarbone in 2 pieces. Today is surgery to bring the fractured ends back together with a plate and 4 screws. Other injuries are 3 broken ribs, hairline fracture of the right collar bone and hairline to the left shoulder blade.

He was riding his bike when a truck or SUV hit him from behind. The truck’s oversize rear view mirror (passenger side) is actually what hit him. The force threw him off his bike and into the woods along the side of the road. The driver didn’t stop, nor did the second car. He had to crawl out of the woods and wave down someone for help. 3 cars stopped, called 911, then called me.

We are mad at the hit-n-run driver, but overjoyed by the extent of injuries. This could have been much, much, worse. DH must have had an angel with him. We are counting our blessings.

Your prayers for a successful surgery and the surgeon’s steady hand would be much appreciated.

Hi Everyone!

I have been absent for a while. Computer issues came at a bad time and I just couldn't keep up.

Dh was chosen to do some training in Europe so I am a single mother nowadays. Getting long runs in is very tough so I decided to make May a cut back month and just do lots of shorter runs. My entire body is enjoying the break but my mid section is expanding at an alarming rate.

I am so proud of all our runners in Minnie and the Flying Pig. Way to go! And it sounds like you had a lot of fun to boot!

DH and I ran the half at Country Music Marathon. What a great race! Very well organized. I set a new PR of 2:06. Dh had to squeeze it into a quick trip home but he did very well considering how tired he was from all the travel.

I start training for Chicago the first of June. I am not running in the marathon but I am going to train like I am. I will be running with several people running several different fall marathons. I should change my name to Cinderella since I won't be going to any of the races.

Cecilia

Kelley -

Wow, I just saw your post. I am so sorry about your husbands accident! My Dh rides too and you just lived through on eof my nightmares! I am so glad that his injuries were not life threatening. I hope the surgery goes well and that the recovery is quick.

WOW- that's awful that he got hit like that! What a terrible thing! But it is good that his injuries aren't worse! I hope it goes well for your family today.

Kelley- Oh my goodness this is absolutely horrible. I'm so glad your husbands injuries were not more serious, but it sounds like such a major, major accident. I WISH your husband, you, and your family all the best in dealing with this accident. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Kelley - tons more :wizard: coming your way for your DH.
Since I can't say anything worse on a disney message board - MEAN PEOPLE SUCK!

Jen - :bday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!:bday:
I totally understand about being a little sad every year as you get older.
I try to remind myself every year what the alternative of not having another birthday is.
Try to do something nice for yourself today, ok?
Chad thinks his birthday is a national holiday, for goodness sake.
Oh & speaking of birthdays...can you send me your SpongeBob party ideas sometime? Zack is having his SB party at the end of June.

Good morning everyone! Did ya miss me? :)

We returned home yesterday afternoon. Made it through the fires, coming and going. Thursday as we drove east on I-10, just east of Live Oak it looked as though we were driving into a thunderstorm. When there was no rain I realized it was smoke. The visibilty on the highway wasn't bad, but the heavy smoke obscured the sun and it was almost dark. Once we got on I-75 southbound it was very hazy until we got south of Lake City, and then things cleaed up.

Coming home yesterday the visibility north of Lake City wasn't bad. The rain on Sunday afternoon must have helped quite a bit. I was a little concerned because they had closed the I-75 and I-10 Interchange on Saturday because of poor visibility. But they had reopened it early yesterday morning.

Not much problem with smoke at the parks.

We could definitely use some rain.

The DW enjoyed her weekend. On Saturday I surprised her with a Mother's Day gift basket from Memories by Sarah. I had it delivered to the room while we were out. :) She thought that was pretty cool.

I yelled for Krista and Steve at each park we went to. Kristaaaaaaa! Steeeeeeeve! They never did answer me, and I still don't know why people were looking at me funny. :confused3

Headed to the doctor in a bit so she can look at my foot. Can't wait. :rolleyes1

Sorry this was all about me. I'll let you know what she says and then get caught up with everyone.

:)
