Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

I'm really glad the Minnie was last weekend. For this weekend's weather, we're featuring heat and humidity. I left the house at 6:45am yesterday in 76 degrees with 90% humidity :scared: I did 5 miles but they weren't pretty.

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Happy Mother's Day to all our Moms out there on the team.

Ooooh, I had a lousy run yesterday. 6 miles on the Erie Canal trail, and my legs were just dead. My quads started cramping up, and I just felt exhausted. Oh well, at least I got some running in.

Happy Mother's Day, everyone! For the 6th year in a row, my DH is working, and I am home with the kids...oh well, they are the reason for the day!

My plan today is to finish W3 tonight when we get home. I wish I could have done it this morning, but no such luck!

I kinda got my Mother's Day present from the kids today....they preordered me the Wii Fit! I can't wait for it to come out!

Happy Mother's Day WISHers! :grouphug:

Angie, sorry about the foam roller hurting so much!
Hope it helps!

Yes, I am going to PT, although I had to cancel my last one cause my oldest had some stomach bug. The exercises she gave me to do at home seem to maybe be helping a tad. My right quad and both knees seem to be OK, but my left quad still hurts! :headache: PT thought I could start walking this Monday. I think I am gonna walk just thirty minutes each morning so I don't lose everything. Plus, it is better for me to be in shape before the surgery. Time is ticking...

I exchanged messages with someone who had the same surgery I'm getting and before surgery she had a 10:00 pace, after surgery it dropped down to the low 8:00s! She also had a PR twelve weeks after surgery! I don't think I'll be quite so speedy, I'm just hoping to be able to complete the Donald in January after all this. :lmao:

Happy Mother's Day to all:
Those who have children princess: pirate:
Those who have furbabies :dog: :cat:
Those who "mother" everyone around them :grouphug:
Those Dads who make us Moms look good and make our lives so much easier! (Thank you, Howard! :lovestruc )

Hey, I'm not feeling as sore today as I'd anticipated. And I'm feeling pretty proud of that 1/2 mile sprint home -- I know better than to minimize its importance by saying it wasn't fast and it was ONLY a half mile because I wouldn't tolerate any of that kind of negative talk from my teammates. Working on NOT negative talking my own efforts now. See? You guys have taught me well! :grouphug:

Not thrilled about starting C25K week 4 tomorrow, but we'll see how it goes.

Today is another day of endurance training -- read "shoe shopping". ICK!! Are you SURE I can't wear a pair of trainers like Annie did in "Father of the Bride"? Seriously, though, Rhonda & I are having pedicures on Friday before the 1/2 and then running the half. I am already worried about whether my tootsies will look cute in "wedding shoes" 2 days after the half. :lmao:

Have a great day, guys! I'll try not to lament the fact that a week ago many of us were posing for a group pic in the EPCOT parking lot, sporting some really cute Minnie bling. :goodvibes

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Figured I get a post in today, as catching up on this thread during the week sees impossible for me lately. This new job is keeping me busy.

No training to report for me. I'm having a problem with my left (good) ankle. It's swollen right over the bone and when I walk it feels like something is pulling on the outside of my leg. It goes from the ankle bone to maybe about 3 inches above the ankle. I have no idea what it is. I didn't turn the ankle or anything. Had an appt. at the Dr. for this past Thurs., but he had to cancel it. So I've got to reschedule it for the upcoming week.

I got an A in my class at school, so that was good news this spring!:goodvibes

Shan - I guess I missed what happened to you, but I hope your surgery goes well. :wizard:

Good luck to any racers this weekend!
Terri

Cam that was so nice how you managed to include everyone in your happy mommy's day greeting.

I have always felt that the smartest people in the world were farmers and moms. Both can do anything, solve anything and they were thinking out of the box long before it was fashionable to do so.

Happy Mom's day y'all.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Terri -- I am so happy to see you here! We have been missing you, sweetie! I hope the doctor has a quick diagnosis for you that says it is nothing serious and will quickly resolve. Congrats on your A!! :woohoo: Have a great week, sweetie, and be sure to report back to us about your appointment. Will keep you in my prayers. pixiedust:

Well I was able to get out this morning but it ended up being a shorter distance then I would have liked to get in but it was all I could manage. I ended up doing 2.69 miles in 40 minutes are somewhere around there. I started off running but felt like I couldn't breathe too good so I decided to walk most of it but I got a little running in there in short spurts. Like Mel said - its hot and humid here this weekend - there was absolutly no wind either - the ocean was flat and the sun shining bright at 7:30 this morning. I am thankful for the nice weather we had last weekend.

Cam - hope you are feeling better and hopefully you can talk again.

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers - (mothers in all the ways Cam mentioned!!)

Happy Mother's Day team.

Heading out for a 10 miler with the clinic. Check back in later...

OK, I'm back after the 10 miler that averaged 11 minute miles with water stops (7 stops), which means we probably were running 9-9:15 minute miles. 12 of us made the trek in the Pink group. Other groups have bigger numbers, but they're pacing at a slow rate, and doing 2 miles less than us.

Have a great Sunday everyone, and a good week as well.

Like previuosly written - South Florida is not the place you want to be right now. Heat and humidity will KILL you in about 20 minutes outside. It's one of those things were just open the front door to step outside, you stand there for 10 minutes (just stand) and you start to get sweat beads on you face and neck - ugh.

I did a 3mile walk today for the Y-Me Organization (Now called the Breast Cancer Network of Strength) in Coconut Grove, FL. It was hot, but we did have a breeze coming off the ocean every now and then.
I am pretty sore today after yesterday's RRCA Racewalking thing, but did a 15min mile, not too shabby.

Here is a photo of the group that I did the walk with (I'm the one with the WISH visor.) Here is the park.

I had a girl in the group who asked me to let her know when I was doing more walks because she wants to add more exercise and walking and would love to do a 5K or something. I told her sure, I would keep in touch.

A photo of what happens to the Pine Trees along the shore over years of wind blowing. Thought you might like to see the boats at the Marina nearby.

I guess I should've posted this on the RR thread - sorry,.

Have a great Mothers Day everyone!!

Happy Mothers Day Team! I hope all the mothers out there are having a great day.
I am back at home after a long year and am loving every minute of it! We have just been spending time at home, doing little stuff around the house. Who thought mowing the lawn would acutally be fun?
It's been great to go for runs through my town and neighborhood. Those couple of weeks off that I had are evident now as I get back up to speed, no pun intended, but my fitness level will come back soon enough. I was a little jealous reading about everyones Minnie experience last weekend, but was more than happy to forego the event so I could come home! Sounds like everybody had a great time.
Time to get back to the Mother's Day activities, which thankfully includes just sitting on the couch watching TV. Have I mentioned I am really enjoying being home?

Z

Good afternoon WISHers, and Happy Mother’s Day!!

Stayed in for 3 on the TM. Very hot and humid in NW Florida today.

Z – Welcome home!!!

Mel – WTG with the 5 miler! It ain’t got to be pretty.

MSDave – WTG with the 6 miler. Hope the legs feel better.

Johanna – Hope you have a great workout today.

Shan – Take care of yourself.

Cam – WTG with the sprint! Have fun with your endurance training today.

Terri – Hope the ankle heals up quickly. Congrats on earning the “A”!

Tricia – WTG with getting the workout in.

AlohaJeff – Have fun at the clinic.

Tracy – WTG with the 3 miler!

:)

Dave - Sorry to hear about the lousy run, but you're right...at least you were out there logging the miles. No one has good runs all of the time, shrug it off and look forward to the next one :)

Johanna - Good luck with finishing up W3 tonight! Sorry to hear about your DH having to work today, sounds like your kids made up for it though :goodvibes:

Shan - When is the surgery again? Good plan getting out there for walks each morning, that will definitely make a positive impact when it's time for recovery

Krista - Hi! Just checking in on you and Stephen (and Carter and Hines)...are you guys anywhere close to Kings Island? Maybe that late fall wish meet needs to be in Cincinnati...I love the Beast!

Terri - Hope that ankle gets better for you, hopefully that A makes it feel a bit better :)

Jackie - Thanks for the nice comments about the blog...I'm glad you like the report! (apologies to the dog) Good luck with moving up to the 11 pace group next week, it's nice that you have friends to run with :)

Tricia - Good job getting out there anyway this morning, 40 minutes is a great workout! Sounds like the Florida heat and humidity is really nasty right now.

Tracy - Congrats on completing the walk! First a stellar racewalking performance, then a great walk for a great cause...nice weekend!

Kevin Z - Welcome home again! (i bet you can't hear those words enough!) Enjoy your day on the couch, you've certainly earned it.

Big Vic - TM is sounding pretty good today based on what I've heard the weather is like down there...oh, and the best way to cool off is with a cold beer, comfy seat and sports on the television....just in case you didn't know... :thumbsup2

Leana - Congrats on the sweet run of hill repeats (can hill repeats be sweet?) and GOOD LUCK with your 10k today! You are a racing fool! Congratulations on the PE designation too! Sounds like you celebrated the right way :) Oh and FYI, the bar in MGM (oops...Hollywood Studios) is across from the entrance to the Backlot Tour...it even has shaded seating...not sure what all they had on tap though.

Angie
- Your foam roller story makes me want to steer totally clear of those things. I had some dude put me through 2 minutes of pure hell at the San Jose expo working on my calf with "the stick"...I'm staying away from that stuff!! Glad to see you continuing to be smart about your training...we want to see you healthy come January!

Debra - The Debster, the Debaroni, the Debanator...you lived in Fargo for a while? My only mental image of Fargo is the one portrayed in the movie...um...you didn't own a wood chipper while you were there did you? Allow me to be the first to offer to buy you a drink, a pre-race carb loading drink if you will, during marathon weekend...hopefully by then we'll have sampled the offerings at every WDW establishment that serves so that we can hook you up properly. And hmmm...I've tried the sweet nothings whispering but it wasn't in the Silver Comet's ear and I didn't get cadence advice in return...or maybe I did? :rotfl:

Amy - I'm so glad to see that you've taken the time off post Minnie to allow your body to recover. You worked things so hard going into that wekeend. I think you have a great plan for this summer that will both allow you to have a really great and FUN half in Disneyland, along with an awesome performance at Goofy in January. I know your very high competitive nature wants to take over, but we're in the endurance events from here on out...the goal needs to be to finish that Goofy event safe and sound (cause we need to go out and have fun afterwards!). Happy Mother's Day to my favorite mother (other than my own ;) )

Scott's World - I've been pretty busy this weekend. I did the 13 miles around the 'hood on the bike Friday night. Yesterday I went to the Comet and did 30 miles (17.2mph) in just under 1:45 and today I did my long run along some roads outside of my subdivision. I ended up doing 9.44 miles in close to 1:30 (9:30 mpm). I usually do my LR's on the flat course at a local park but I liked mixing it up today, even if there were a couple of huge rolling hills that made things interesting. Add a nice 15-25mph wind into the mix and you understand why I've dismissed the rest of the afternoon to sitting on the couch typing up trip reports :rotfl: Day Three will be up shortly (scojo15.blogspot.com)...unfortunately no more videos of Amy and her stellar acting performance, but there were some good times to report anyway. Boy I miss being down in WDW. Nothing to look forward to now except a trip to Disneyland in late August for the half...and....maybe a super secret venture out west for some gambling and shenanigans in July ;)

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all of the moms and moms to be!!

ETA: For those actually following along, Day Three of the TR has been posted! :)

Welcome home Kevin :thumbsup2. Thanks for serving our country and making it a safer place.

YAY for MOTHER'S DAY, and for all who care for children regardless of your gender, official title/status, or the age of said children! :goodvibes

Leana: Yay for the me day filled with hill repeats, spa treatments, yoga, and beer. Double yay for earning your Professional Engineering designation! Very, very cool! :cool1:

Mel:
I did 5 miles but they weren't pretty.
Oh, but you are. I don't envy that heat & humidity, Mel, and can't imagine running in it.

MS Dave: Sorry to hear about your quads on the 6 miler.

Johanna: Wow, cool Mother's Day Gift. I want a Wii Fit! :thumbsup2 Good luck with W3D3.

Shan: Sorry to hear that your left quad still hurts. I know you want to go into your surgery as close to 100% as you can. But hearing another runner's story (and wow--what an improvement in time) had to be inspiring--and maybe make you feel even better about your decision. :)

Cam: That's right--no negativity from you. (I want to keep it all for myself.) I'm glad your extra run, on top of your C25K session, was so successful. And you're just going to fly through W4. I just hope day 2 of shoe shopping isn't nearly as strenuous. :rotfl:

Terri: SO sorry to hear about your ankle--it sounds so painful. I hope it's nothing too serious. Yay for your A, though, and I hope your new-job busy-ness is at least satsifying professionally. We miss you here, though.

Tricia: It sounds like a rough run, but I'm impressed that you stuck with it in the spurts. Given the conditions I'd say you did a great job!

Aloha Jeff: Great job with the 10 miler, as usual. How many people are in your clinic group, total, at this point? Is that adolescent running you told us about last week still in the game? (I hope so, he could really use the experience and guidance.)

Tracy: Great pictures & another great pace, especially after yesterday's lightning-fast 5K. I asked you at the end of last week's thread what your finish meant for you as a racewalker and what your goals are, but don't know if you read it. It seems like you're a natural.

Z/Kevin: :woohoo: I'm so happy for you that you get to mow the lawn AND are loving it! And I think you deserve just as much couch/TV time as your training and the rest of your life can justify!

Vic: But was the TM exciting for you? You know what I've learned from all you FL folk? If I want to retire to FL, I need to make friends with my TM. Close personal friends. And probably a lot more money, because I intend to blow it all at Disney.

Scott: Debaroni? I feel like a pasta dish--but you can call me a dish anytime. ;) I am so the Debanator, though. Yep, lived in Fargo. You betcha. Nothing like the movie, as the movie was a lot more exciting. Locals will tell you their accents sound nothing like those the actors used--they're lying or in denial, take your pick. I need to read day 3 of your TR soon, as I'm dying to know how things progress. (And how they end--did you finish the Minnie? :rotfl2:) But for now, I have to say that your bike and run looks fabulous. You're really building up that base for the DL 1/2 and the Goofy--and that will earn you some decadent and possibly dirty doings in July. Do tell, btw, do tell! :listen:

As for me:
Here's an abbreviated version of what I'm posting on my Team thread...it's not really a race report, so I'm going to keep it off that thread. If you want the full details, visit Ohana. Heck, visit Ohana anyway!

I did the Pgh Race for the Cure today (35,000+ participants) as an untimed walker. Initially, I was going to walk with my ILs, then they cancelled their trip here. Apparently Pgh isn't any bigger of a pull for them than Fargo was. :rotfl2: [...] Anyway, I get to the walk start and I'm looking at the start line. Which is already moving. Apparently, in Pgh, the walkers just start whenever they feel like it! [...] So I'm walking [...]. Race volunteers are telling walkers to stay out of the way of the runners and keep to the sidewalk, because they've entered the course waaaay early[...].

The official time on the clock when I finished? 35:02. My watch time: 42:50. That's a great pace for me as a walker. But [...] the official race clock time tells me that the first wave of walkers must have started their race over 15 minutes before they were supposed to, with no race officials to stop them. :sad2: When I told DOOD about it, he just laughed. Turned out, he got near the front of the run start and ended up right next to a walker in blue jeans who was talking on his cell when the gun went off...also early! DOOD's time, btw, was 21:54. Not a PR, but pretty good given the conditions.

We were both done well before 10:00, which was the best news of the day because at 10 the skies opened up and it started pouring. And there were STILL walkers just starting the 5K, 1:45 after the official start of the walk. Wow, no wonder they weren't regulating things.

Happy Mother's Day Team!!!

I did 5 miles total today with one of them walking. The weather was crap so I did the Treadmill for the first time in a long time. I hated it other than all the sweating. I didn't mind the running part it was the being inside you know.

Keep up the great work team! :thumbsup2

Hey everyone... Just a quick note from me as I am supposed to go read the American Girl book to DD's. We went camping this weekend, it was COLD, and rained Saturday night/Sunday morning. But we had a great time all bundled up. And for the first time EVER in the history of our camping trips... the DD's fights were tolerable and no one was crying in the camper (including me!!!)

I didn't want to run at all.... burned out I guess. So DH finally said to just walk. So the dog and I went out and I started out with my walk/run/walk intervals. All was good and I remember why I LOVE running at the campground. So I took it slow and easy and really enjoyed it. My 3-4 miles turned into almost 5.5 miles. Yah me. I have a 1/2 marathon in two weeks so I can't give up quite yet!!!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to everyone!!!!! My DD's bought me flowers to plant outside, that is their favorite gift!!!
