Wk of Mar 9 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey, everyone! I went MIA over the weekend because of an out-of-town friend dropped by for a little eating, a little drinking, and a lot of socializing! :goodvibes So I got behind on reading my WISH friends' posts. I can't possibly respond to everyone, but so many of you had great weekends! :cool1: I'll just respond to a few posts from last week's thread.

Jeff: Thanks for posting this week's thread. Mel, hang in there & feel better soon! :yay:

The WISH Team: DOOD is in the same place many of your partners are: slightly bemused at the WISH thing, but tolerant and even encouraging of my Disney obsession. He had nothing but good things to say about those WISHers he met during the Goofy, though, and he's all for me signing up for races even if they are at Disney. I'm trying to encourage him to wear our team colors, but I might need to settle for his attendance at the odd WISH meet.

Angie: You ARE Irongirl, I christen thee! And I christen thee Irongirl again, especially after your speedy LR!

Aloha Jeff: Great job with the running clinic & the Girl Scout cookie selling. I bet you could combine the two events & the Princesses would make out like bandits. I know I could do with a few cookies after a run! ;) Loved the clinic article, btw, and found it very much in the spirit of so many of your posts.

I just read your update on the clinic. Wow--that's a lot of people. You're so generous with your time & experience! :upsidedow

Carrie: Great run, great pace, great work with the Chi arms! More dancing bananas for you!

Judy: Yea for the return of the training mojo. Double yea for the DVC! :cool1: I sympathize with your missing your LR. The situation must have been exhausting for you and terrifying for Mist. I hope your yard can be cleaned up, mostly, by the time your VIP visitor arrives. And congrats for doing the 45-minute run today!

Anne: WTG with the negative splits!

Kristi: Awww, I'm sorry you're so stressed out, but very happy that you're taking positive steps to alleviate what stress you can--even if it means dropping the team challenge. I know you made the right decision for you, at this time, and can't wait to hear updates on all the good things that I just know will be coming your way.

Shannon: We welcome you--and your dog Krush--to WISH. Thanks for the race report!

Dave: Beer, I understand. But scratching? What, does the panda have fleas??? :rolleyes1

Craig: Being able to run side by side with DOOD is one of the things I really like about the TM because I can't really keep pace with him on the open road. I'm glad you and Martha enjoy a similar experience.

Mike: DOOD (My DH) & I used Cytomax during the Goofy. I'm not experienced enough to know if it did its job, but DH is convinced enough to continue to use it for his training. It seemed to help his recovery time & was recommended to us by an endurance friend of his.

Amy: I'll pass on your Carnation suggestion to DOOD. It does remind me that one of his favorite post-LR drinks is a Frappuccino. And you do make running around the mud/puddles obstacles sound like fun...almost. :rolleyes1

Aloha Jeff, Shan, Amy: Good luck with GS cookie distribution. I'm just glad you don't live around me, because I couldn't resist them.

Martha: Have fun in London, although I do have to say the phrase "walking the streets of London" conjured up very specific images for me....of Jack the Ripper, of course. What did you think I meant? ;)

Casey: WTG with filling out your race schedule. I love the Cool Running site! :thumbsup2

Terri: Yea for the test & the upcoming promotion! More Disney races, always a good thing.

Cecilia: It sounds like your new gym will help you with your training. :woohoo: I hear good things about Lifetime Fitness.

Jen: Thanks for heads up on the Garmin/Aldi sale. Sounds tempting, although I've got my eye on another model...:scratchin

TiggerJeff: Great pace and so soon after your 1/2! You and Mel both deserve queso dip.

SamSam: I feel the same way you do--WISH inspires me to be the best athlete, the best version of me, that I can be.

Kevin: I haven't done RFTT. And although I've only been a spectator at the Twin Cities race, I can say it's a scenic course & filled with enthusiastic specators (according to my DH).

Mel: You're up and around! Yeah!! Now where's my share of the queso dip?

Stacie: Good for you for playing it safe with the leg while in WV. It sounded like a relaxing weekend, except for the weather and the smoky fireplace. But you got in some solid XT! :thumbsup2

Amy:  for your DD & her broken wrist. I'm glad it wasn't more serious but it's still scary & I do think she'll have a much longer recovery than the calendar says. I hope you're both doing okay, now that the initial shock and worry are passing.

As for me: I'm now officially in the last week of C25K, although I need to keep adding time to get to the 5K distance! I think it's really going to help me with the Cleveland Half, which I plan to RW. In even better news, I think I convinced our weekend visitor to give running a try. I speak with all the fervor of the converted, so I might have made an overly strong case, but at least his eyes didn't glaze over!:rotfl2: He's the second person I've talked into trying running, and the first person is going to let me know when his small town has a summer 5K that we can both do together. I figure running + friends = a great excuse for weekend getaways!

Amy - Hang in there buddy. Like you said, it could have been much much worse. Hopefully the recovery will be quick and she won't miss too much of the softball season. I wish you and your girls the best....keep your chin up :)

Hi Everyone:flower3:

I am very overwhelmed with work but I want to keep up this week.

Mel I REALLY hope you are better soon. There is so much crud floating around my church, family and work!!! Maybe it's this crazy weather down here. 80 one day 60 the next.!!! :confused3
Stacie Sorry about your clothes!! That stinks. I hope you got your run in and I know exactly what you mean about wanting to make up for it.
Judy OOOHHH my goodness, I'm so sorry!!! That's a horrible experience!!! Congratulations on the run today
Shan You do have tiny fingers. I had 2 c-sections too, but I did not not have a problem with muscles being detached, is that common? I'm reallly sorry for you that stinks. That's cool about DH ring too, my DH and I did that a few years back too.
Amy I'm sorry about your daughter, I'm glad she is ok but that is reallya bummer about the hand and softball :grouphug:
Debra Running + friends makes for the perfect weekend get away that's why I like running with DH so much, became our weekend get aways. Funny about the Irongirl thing, I was thinking after my run Sunday that I am SOOOOOO running that Irongirl.

NOTHING for me today. My back is pretty good today considering what I put it through yesterday, my left hip flexor was really sore :confused3

The bad thing is because of work issues I don't know if I will get to run (or do anything) until Thursday, I WAS ON SUCH A ROLL!!!

Have a good night everyone!!!

Judy - Oh No! I hope Mist has recovered from her scary night. I think you can count cutting the tree and fixing the fence as cross-training. And you get extra points because it was in the wee hours in the cold!

Amy - so sorry to hear about DD's accident. When I was in 8th grade, something similar happened to me (though not skiing). I was playing basketball and fell over someone and broke my wrist - 3 weeks bfore softball season. I was so bummed. When they cut my cast down to below the elbow, I worked at getting a glove on (my catching hand). I couldn't convince the coach to let me play though ;) . Hope DD heals up soon.

Terri

Amy, take care of your daughter.

To everyone else suffering from a cold or injury, get your rest. Don't overdo it, and make it worse.

Have a good week of training to all those still out on the road.

Judy - :worship: 2.5 years of not missing a LR, wow. Recently I am doing good if I can go 2.5 weeks in a row.:rolleyes1 Glad the horses are good and they must have felt that if you weren't going to get out more, then they would. :lmao:

Mel - Hope you are feeling better soon.

Craig and Martha - Have fun and try not to do anything that will land you on the local news here. ;) If you do get on the news, make sure it was for something worthy enough.

Angie - Great job on the run. You are doing great. Hope your back and leg feel better. Don't push it too much and reinjure something. You have done too good to get hurt now.

Debra - Great job getting to the end of the program. Keep up the good work recruiting people as well.

Amy - So sorry to hear about DD. Hope she has a speedy recovery. Although now she can fend off all the boys swooning over her. ;)

Shan - Congrats on having to get the rings resized. It is great to see results like that.

SamSam - Glad that we could convert you. We do a great job at finding things that make this free sport expensive. :rolleyes1

Stacie - Glad you had a nice time in the mountains. Hope the smell comes out quickly.

Kevin - Glad to see you back and that you signed up for Minnie. Temperature wise should be a little cooler than blast furnace but not by much.

Vic - Our squirrel guard has a fit if there is one in a 2 block radius of our house. :lmao: We do have one that likes to mock him and climbs on the porch screen and stays there until the barking begins, then he slowly moves off taunting him the entire way.

TiggerJeff - You are making Mel cook for you while she is sick. :rotfl2: Beware or she might cough in your dip.

HawaiiJeff - Glad you had fun in your clinic. Hope that number of people stick with it for a while. Although 1900 boxes of cookies are a little too much to eat. :lmao: We will be glad to sacrifice and take any thin mints that may cause too much temptation. :rolleyes1

Terri - Good to see you. Hope things calm down a little for you.

I took yesterday off since my legs were sore. Not sure why but this morning my throat was a little sore so I may be getting what Lynnda has now, which would explain the sore legs. She is soooooo nice to share it with me. Seeing as how I can get a little grumpy when sick, I warned her about getting me sick so I guess she is ready for the grumpiness. :lmao:

Bill

Hi everyone...Thank you all so much for the well-wishes for my DD :goodvibes . She is doing surprisingly well this morning. She's definitely a trooper..I'm amazed how well she's handled everything. I forgot to mention to you guys that she also sprained her left wrist!!! So both arms are casted...only the one is removable and she heal very quickly! Also...just so you guys don't think I"m a bad parent LOL...the reason she wasn't with me on the mountain was because she was in an all day snowboarding camp, getting lessons and riding with other kids her age and ability. Thought maybe I should clear that up!!! LOL!

No training to report for the past few days...but hopefully when we get back home later today I can get some exercise in.

Chi Running....I meant to report that i used some techniques on my saturday LR. I have to say that I really can feel the difference!!! It all makes so much sense to me...in a way it's similar to what I teach in Pilates so that helps!!!

Debra: Sounds like a FUN weekend :).

Bill: good luck fighting off the illness...best thing to do is rest! Take care of yourself!

Stacie: Thanks girl  . I know you know all too well about skiing accidents :(. You stayed off the slopes last weekend right?

Hey team. Sorry I've been MIA but I'm just in a major funk right now. No event to train for (first time in over 2 years), hard time carving out workout time, and just ready for Spring. To top it off during my workout yesterday I had some severe hip pain in one leg and knee pain in the other. Praying it was just a bad day. Hope everyone else is doing well. Will try to keep up better this week!

Good morning WISHers!

Hoping everyone is having a great Tuesday. Its rainy today in NW Florida.

Vic - I missed it. What is Marilyn doing for the entire race team? Whatever it is, sign me up.

She found a couple of shadow boxes at Downtown Disney and put my bib, picture and medals from the 5K and Marathon in them. I think they're pretty cool. :thumbsup2 I posted the pictures in last weeks thread.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal on Sunday morning. We had one of the neighbor's trees fall on the house a few years ago during a tropical storm. Took down part of the privacy fence and put a nice divet in the roof. Always makes for a nice day of cleanup and repair. Glad the animals are ok.

I've actually seen them walk right next to Earnhardt. He gives them a look and goes back to sleep. Dusty jogs towards them until they run away, and then he's down for the count too. :lmao:

Greetings Race Team -

Whatever happened to MikeOptimator and NEPFBill? :confused3 I don't get picked on anymore. :upsidedow

Did 40 min on the TM this morning. I feel very stale. I think I lost my mojo again. :guilty: I have eight on tap Saturday - which I am doing NO MATTER WHAT - and it looks like heavy rains. :headache:

Craig - Oh you are too kind. My 45 min run wasn't all that impressive. It's not like I was Mrs Speedy or anything. But thanks. And here's that 5-er! :teeth:

Amy - Oh no! Oh the poor thing. I hope she's not in too much pain.

Angie - Take a rest day. You're doing SO WELL let's not risk a back injury. :thumbsup2

OriginalBill - Awww shucks. Thanks. I hate that I missed it though. It's really nagging at me. Gosh, I just can't imagine you grumpy, sick or not.

Stephanie - Oh honey... Spring is on it's way, I promise. That will help.

Vic - Oh how nice of her! :teeth:

Mel - Goodness!! I hope you feel better and get rid of the "major respiratory crud"!!

Jeff - Let's not talk about Girl Scout cookies.... I have gained 20 lbs since the Full in January!!

Vic - You have the labs right? I think I remember us talking about that on the way to the start of the full. My labs are bad at chasing squirrels too. The worst one though is the Chocolate Lab (Delilah) who actually brought me a baby squirrel that had fallen from it's nest!!

Angie - AWESOME JOB!! AWESOME PACE!!

Kevin - If you need an exemption for the last few weeks LTO... then I am in BIG trouble!!

Judy - I think you had a pretty good reason for missing your LR, alot better than the reasons I have missed most of mine.

Amy - So sorry to hear about DD. I bet she is not a happy camper!! Here's hoping she heals quickly and can get back to everything she wants to do!!

Debra - I can get DH to wear the WISH colors, but he is NOT so big on me doing all the Disney races. I actually had to agree to forego all Disney races this year and do some local stuff for a while to keep the peace in our house!!

Stephanie - I'll tell you what!! If you keep up this week I will too!! I actually am feeling better knowing I am not the only one who has had NO time for anything lately.

I am so sorry for the fact that I have been gone so long. I have missed talking to everyone so much. I have also realized just how much you guys keep me motivated. I have crashed and burned on almost all of my excersizing since January and gained somewhere between 15-20 lbs!! So here I am, back on track and back with my team!! I am making it a point to come in here everyday and post my progress and keep in touch with everyone!!

Dana

Catching up from last week:

Shannon - Welcome! You just have to want to post here to post here. Look forward to hearing more about you!

Vic - COol shadow boxes!

Anne - Woo hoo on teh neg splits. Silly you, you know not to compare yourselves with otheres and justbe happy for you!

Jen - How's this? the land of Cheese, Harleys, Jelly Bellys adn Jen. ;) WISH I had more time. :(

Karen adn Texa - Happy belated B-days!

John and Karen - Hope you guys are ok. You've been awfully quiet.

ChiArms - Basically, you move them by "gently twisting your spine" instead of back and forth. DOn't cross your belly button or anything. Just gentle. It's a pendulum-type motion. Helped me get my legs shorter. They're supposed to be shaped liek you're holding a big ball too.

For this week, so far -

Jeff - Thanks fro covering us this week. BTW, heard there was a big scandal with teh Sarasota women's winner. Sad, she's from my home town.

Mel - Hope you're feeling better soon!

Forgot to say:

Congrats to Casey!!!! That's a big week!

Amy - I didn't have thought s of you pushing her down the mountain and sayign have a god day before, but I do now. :rotfl:

Mel - Glad you'r efeelign better!

Kevin - SO good to see you around again!

Bill - Sorry you're sick. Did I miss an update on Timmy> Did the new drug work?

Judy - :worship:

Well, we were gone for teh weekend, so just did 4 miels SUnday instyead of 6 Saturday. Pretty good for us. never ran after a road trip before. This is the best post-marathon trainign I've ever done. Moved yesterday's run to Wed, because dh was sick. Guess who's sick now. Debating on yoga. It means staying at work late and gettign home late. Maybe I'll just do teh video with dh again. Really could use some sleep.

Hi, gang....
I could never be so organized as to respond to all the posts so far, so...good job to everybody! or hugs if you or your kid or spouse is hurt or sick. Does that pretty much cover it? :lmao:

For Mike? who asked about recovery drinks....the cheapest is good ol' chocolate milk. It has that 4:1 carb:protein ratio and is readily available. (I get the reduced fat version.) As for commercial products, I really like the Clif recovery drink mixes (mango orange? I think, and vanilla)

During long exercise, I'll have gels or accelerade or carbopro. I don't tend to do any calorie replacement unless I'm out over an hour. If less than an hour, just water, or sometimes water with Nuun (for electrolytes). Feel free to ask any specifics.

I was at WDW this past weekend, so although I did a lot of tourist walking, I can't count any exercise, so have to step it up this week. Was going to run and/or swim out there, but we were tired. Plus, the weather was not fun. Big rain on Friday evening, cold and windy on Saturday. A little better during the day on Sunday, but still cool Sun/Mon. I think I wore shorts more often for marathon weekend in January!

See ya...

Doesn't everyone realize Girl Scout Cookies were invented for loosing weight? The box clearly states " THIN Mints."

LOL, just kidding :rotfl: . No hate mail please.

Angie, I don't know if it is common? One of my c-sections was an emergency so that might have had something to do with it? :confused3
All I know is I'm over it! :lmao:

I'm just wondering if I'm out for awhile, how hard it will be to get started back up? I hate to assume this, but I'm guessing from square one? :headache:

DH and I ran this morning out at Chastain Park. Did 4 miles in 43:10. He runs out there often since it is close to work, but that was the first time I've ran there. A few steep short mini hills. Ouch!

Bill...Hope you feel better!

Stephanie...Hope you have a better day tomorrow!

Amy... 2 casts??? Oh, I hope she recoups quickly!!!

Judy...Hope you get your mojo back!

Dana...welcome back! It definately helps me to stay motivated by being around this group. Too bad and I can't do my workouts mid-day!

Carrie...Hope you're feeling better soon!!!

Angie...Glad you're back is feeling better. Hope you are able to squeeze a workout in this week. I'll miss my aquacise toinght because of work! I hate it when work gets in the way! :goodvibes

THIN Mints! :rotfl:

Happy training you guys! Sending :wizard: for all you nursing injuries and those not feeling well!!!

Stacie

Angie/Irongirl: (Just love that name.) I'm thinking you might be able to do the Irongirl & would really like the challenge. Again, I'm not a doctor & don't play one on TV, but maybe it would be a way to celebrate all the obstacles you've overcome. Even if you're not as speedy as you'd like to be--even if you are speedy in my mind--with the hills and all? And if you don't want to be tempted, just ignore this post. :thumbsup2

Bill: Here's hoping your leg soreness & throat soreness pass quickly & are unrelated. :goodvibes

Amy: Your DD sounds just as strong & resilient as her mother! And it never entered my mind that you could be a bad mom. Actually, my first thought was, "Wow, that's one accomplished kid!" Good news on the Chi Runnng front--I'm working on the leaning exercises & the arm swing (while walking). I do think they work and I'm looking forward to trying things out when I run.

Stephanie:  I hope the hip/knee pain is fleeting & that Spring pops up like crocuses for you soon. I'm sure that will help you feel better.

Vic: Apparently it's a lot of work being a squirrel guard, and not everybody's into the effort. My cats, who were up to about 6 months ago 100%, have seen squirrels not 5 feet away from them and were terrified by the strange creatures. Then, when the squirrels ignored them, not even taunting my cats with a coy tail wave, my two spoiled felines returned to what really interested them--eating grass. So much for their natural predatory instincts.

Judy: Oh, I hope it doesn't rain for your 8-miler. And congrats for sticking with your 40 minutes on the TM, despite feeling a little stale.

Dana: Glad to see you back in the swing of things. For DOOD and me, Disney & races are the perfect compromise. When I first met him, I always knew running was a non-negotiable part of his life. And he knew it was the same with me and Disney. Neither one of us could have predicted the happy convergence of the two, but we're so glad it happened. Now we have the Reese's of relationships: two great tastes that taste great together!

Carrie: Have you notice how the Chi Running arms seem to be working with deepening your breathing, much like yoga poses that I can't remember the names of? And wow. I'm impressed how you've managed to stay active after a weekend getaway. And :yay: for keeping on track with post-marathon training. Do try to get some good rest, though.

Betsy: I simply must give you much thanks and applause for encouraging me to drink chocolate milk. :worship: More tips along those lines, please! Seriously, thanks for confirming what DOOD and I find out pretty much through trial and error.

Aloha Jeff: I see. So eating Girl Scout cookies is actually good for me?? Hmmm...:scratchin Now, if you could just give me the carb/protein ratio argument, like Betsy did, I might be convinced. I know I WANT to be convinced--does that count? :rotfl2:

Shan: You're doing hill work! Impressive! Keep up all the good running!

As for me: Nothing major, just some XT and circuit training today. I'd bore you with how frustrated I get with circuit jumpers & machine sitters, but I suspect many of you know the feeling.
