Wk of Mar 4--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi everyone- I hope everyone had an awesome day. I had to do my workout at the gym today on the TM because it was awfully cold outside here in NJ. It was only in the low 20's but the wind chill made it feel MUCH colder than that, so I hit the TM. I was dreading the TM but I ended up having a GREAT workout!!! I did 4 miles in 36:15. MY average pace was 9:00.

Martha--sounds like an awesome time in New Orleans. I think you can consider all the walking you did as XT!
Jen--sorry to hear about your tough workout. I hope your body is feeling better really soon!
Angie--that is great that your DS went on your run with you. What a great way to spend time with him! Glad to hear your knee didn't hurt!
Dave-sounds like you had a nice run on the TM yesterday. I know the feeling about being busy at work, sometimes it is so hard to keep up with the posts....but we all understand that here!!
Bill-I hope you enjoy your rest/relaxing week!!
Stephanie--wear your finisher's shirt with pride, you deserve it!!
Krista--so glad to hear that you had no IT band pain-that is AWESOME!! and by the way--if I ever tried to wear those shoes I would probably fall and break my neck!! High heels are NOT for me!! :rotfl:
Cam--sounds like you had a great workout with the Swiss ball! I really need to get my rear in gear and start doing some of those exercises.

I know I missed some people, but it is time to go make dinner!

I know I haven't posted in ages, but I am keeping up with my training - I just can't get to the computer as often as I would like. Anyway, I am here with a plea for help from any current or former nursing mothers: I need suggestions for a better bra! Sorry to bring this up again, but I am desperate. Now that I am actually jogging 5 min at a time, I am in some serious pain. I plan to continue to nurse my DD for at least another few months and clearly need to invest in a bra with extra support. Suggestions?

Meghan--Believe me--I feel your pain! I doubled up sports bras until I was done nursing--you might give it a try! Good luck!

Bill-- CONGRATULATIONS!!!! on your half! Wow!! It sounds like everybody had a great time! The real question is: have you painted the baby's room yet?? :scratchin

I was able to get two coats on the room last Friday. Then after the weekend, it was determined that it would probably look better if it had at least one more coat on it to help get rid of shadows. So another trip to the store and another coat was put on tonight.

I will await for the official word from the inspector to see if it is actually done enough to say it is done. :rotfl:

Bill

Krista:

I'm glad the backwards walking worked for you! You felt those hamstrings right away I bet. Just the backwards walking (and the other hamstring exercises) will help tremendously in improving your hamstring strength and balancing out your leg musculature. Hopefully the IT band issues will be thing of the past!

I have a few IT band-specific stretches I could recommend as well; they will be just a little lengthy to describe, but if you want them let me know and I will be happy to provide them.

I'm happy to share with everyone that my 1-week post-arthroscopic knee surgery visit went well; the surgeon related in no uncertain (and non-medical)terms that my knee was a "mess" inside; lots of osteoarthritis that he had to address. The good news is that I should be back on the roads in late April! :rotfl:

Steve

Stephanie: lime green sports bra and leopard print heels!?!!! :rotfl2: I say we get a team together to run in those together!! What a sight! Count me in.

Krista: I gotta try that backwards running on the TM. It might improve my times! LOL

Cam: can you point me to the website with all the balance ball exercises? I know the ones for the abs and back extensions, but I don't know any others.

Laurie: I feel your pain re: cold weather. We had windchills in the negatives here in NE all day. I, too, was on the TM but I was doing speed work so I wanted the TM.

It took a few days to recuperate from the trip ( ;) ) and I did 2 miles of speed work. 2 minutes at 11 min miles and 2 minutes at 10 min miles. I felt really good and was pleased.

I wish I had more time during the day to keep up with all the posts but we're knee deep in the patches and testing for the new daylight savings time. Oh joy :crazy2: . But, we work so you don't have to worry come sunday morning!

You must excuse me now. I'm watching Mark Harmon prance around the TV...not that I need sound to watch it but it helps in keeping track of the "plot."

Meghan--Believe me--I feel your pain! I doubled up sports bras until I was done nursing--you might give it a try! Good luck!

I have been there too Meghan (the first time I did the Disney Half I was still nursing). I wore a regular bra and a sports bra (and sometimes another sports bra) while training. I hope you can find a way to get rid of the pain!!!

Hey WISH team!

So, want to know my crazy news? I have a great Disney Marathon taper madness story...about a week after the marathon I found out that I had a very tiny tagalong with me. Yep, I got pregnant! Seriously, the week before the marathon. It is a dangerous time...DH thought he got away with me just getting a new pair of shoes. ;) I have wanted to post this right away, but I was SURE this wasn't going to happen. I had our bio daughter 8 years ago and then we adopted two precious kiddos, thinking that we wouldn't be able to have any more but we never got tested. Apparently, I just needed to train for a marathon! It looks like I am due the end of September

So, there goes my plan for the Goofy 2008. I am hoping to do the half. I was thinking about the whole, but that would entail pumping along the way...which I have seriously considered. ;) But, I think I will just be somewhere cheering my fellow WISH-ers on!

I haven't been able to run because I get migraines and can't take my meds. But, I have been swimming and walking.

I have loved reading about all the things you have been doing! So exciting!

Bekah

Hello Everyone

Krista- I'm so glad to hear that your knee did not hurt. After a short term set back I can not imagine how frustrating it must be to deal with a persistent problem. I admire your dedication. :thumbsup2 Thanks for thinking of me when you saw the show. Right now I have the plain white hard hat sporting the Meisner Marine logo, but I really think a pink one is in my future as a graduation present !! :rotfl: Right now I'ms till in the office, so I have not used it yet and I just don't know how seriously those marine construction guys would take me with a pink hard hat:confused3 .

Jen I'm glad you got a work out in with no pain :cool1: I hope it stays that way.pixiedust:

Laurie AWESOME PACE!! :hyper: That's great!!

Meghan I'm sorry that I can't offer any advice I was not exercising when I was nursing, in fact I did not even think about exercising!!

Steve I'm glad to hear that your recovery is going well, I hope it goes even quicker than expected. pixiedust:

Martha I'm glad that you had a good trip, your training is progressing great in your signature!!! :thumbsup2

No training for me again today. Mondays and Tuesdays are impossible between a job and 5 classes!! So frustrating when all I want to do is run!!
Hopefully tomorrow night I will make it to that pump class and then DH and I will run!! YEAH!! :cool1:

Wow, what a taper souvenier! Congrats! :)

Good evening everyone.

3.2 miles on the TM this evening. 12:30 pace and 2% incline.

All the talk today about fuel belts got to thinking about upgrading my Camelbak. I have a back pack I was issued years ago when I was on active duty. So, I looked around and found this one. Just had to have it. :thumbsup2

Lime green and holds 70 oz.

Just a quick drive by post...I'm pretty beat tonight.
Ran my first 5K...on my TM that is, but still ran it from start to finish (after it got up to speed of course) in 40:52. Sounds like most everyone is doing really well on you training and races...will talk more tomorrow...day off...going to bed. 'Night

Andrew - Great job on the TM 5k.

Bekah - Congratulations! I'll have to watch myself when I start to taper ;) .

It sounds like everyone is on the TM! Jen, I too am quite a bit slower on the TM, especially at home.

Speaking of home treadmills, our belt is suddenly starting to come apart at the seams. Funny, the thing aged wonderfully for the 8 years we didn't use it :rotfl2: . DW warned me I was too hard on it. Right as always!

Anyways, has anyone ever tried to replace the belt themselves? I have to call today to find out how much a replacement belt would cost so we may end up just getting a new TM. I just thought I'd check with all the exercise mechanics out there first.

Also, thanks again for all the advice on the hydration belts. I guess I'll scrap my idea of duct-taping a bottle to my arm and using a big crazy straw! Plan B was one of those cool hats with a beer can holder on each side. Oh well.

Plan B was one of those cool hats with a beer can holder on each side.
Ohhhh, Krista & I could do that and put our diet cokes in the hat instead of beer! :rotfl:

Becka - congratulations! Let's not tell my hubby about this...he tries to convince me daily to have another bambino...:ssst:

Bill - I agree. 3 coats of paint is MUCH better! :rotfl2: Maybe you should consider a 4th. We would not want baby #2 to see any shadows! (I tease, but I would probably make Chad paint until it was absolutely perfect too - you should have seen us painting Zack's room in stripes when I was 7 or 8 mos. pregnant and big as a house!)

I wimped out & did not go to the gym yesterday. It was about 3 degrees out, without the wind! :scared1:
My plan is to bump training down a day and make yesterday my rest day instead of this Friday.

DW has been sick for the last 3 days so I have been playing single parent. That is a tough job that I would not want full time, especially when it involves driving DD each night to gymnastics 35 miles away for 4 hours of practice.

The good side of gymnastics last night is that it gave me time for a training run. Another reason I love my Garmin, running in another town.

I ran following Galloways new program. For my pace that is R3/W1. He is shortening all the running intervals. I did 5.3 miles at 10:14 pace. I found it interesting the splits just kept getting better. No fatigue or soreness.

Sunday I ran 4 miles at a 10:05 pace, straight through, no R/W. I was ready to stop after 4 miles.

I was not thrilled to hear about Galloway shortening all the run intervals, but it does seem to work. I'll just have to wait and see what it is like on my next 10 miler.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

No training to report for me from yesterday. I had a frustrating day at work in the lab. I was supposed to do some x-training yesterday, and was going to do the elliptical. But I decided to bag it. It's a step back/rest and recovery week for me - so I thought it's no big deal to miss the x-training. I'm going to try to run on the TM today. BTW - for all you Southerners worried about the heat, it was 7 degrees here yesterday (20 below windchill - brutal)

Kristi- Thanks for the pictures. Boy, I wish I knew you were there in MGM. I would have definitely :wave2:.

Krista- I think I forgot to say yesterday how glad I was to hear you were running pain free. I hope it continues. Where's your hubby?

Laurie- Nice job on the TM yesterday - we have so many new team mates running around 9:00mpm. I need to get my times down so I can meet and run with you all.

Meghan- Good to see you around the boards. Good luck keeping up with your training. I can't help you on your question, but I'm sure someone here will have some good advice.

Bill :cool1: on the painting! :cool1: How'd the inspection go?

SilverSteve- Wow, I didn't know you had knee surgery. I wish you all the best in your recovery.

Judy- Speaking of knee surgeries - what's going on with yours? Have you totally decided not to do it?

Martha- Good job on your speedwork yesterday. Way to stay with it.

Bekah- So nice to see you on the thread again. Welcome back! Wow, what news!!! So when you taper, you really taper don't you? Congratulations Bekah. I wish you all the best with your pregnancy.

Angie- So do you have to do the pump class in Krista's 4 inch heels? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Vic- Nice job on the TM getting your 3 miles in.

Andrew- Congratulations on your first 5K! Big milestone!

Mike/Optimator- I love your hydration ideas. I'd like to see you running with the duct taped H2O bottle or the beer can hard hats.

Jim- Good luck on your single parent duty. Wow, 35 mile drive for 4 hours of gymnastics practice. Whew, that's tough. Really nice job on getting your runs in while doing the single parent thing. That takes dedication.

Hi TEAM,

Sorry to have been MIA, I hope all is generally well with everyone. I haven't a chance to catch up. I have been walking when I can, not really following a training plan like I want.

Not to bore all with the gritty details, but things have not been smooth at my house for the last couple of weeks, but nothing serious. Such is life!

Anywho, I am here and still walking. While not really intense workouts, I am moving. Oh, and I gave up elevators for lent! (The funny part is we are Jewish) he he.... But when I tell my friends it makes them laugh!:cool1: I am trying to continue to be active and energetic each day. I didn't realize how several flights of stairs can make me breathe harder. I have to work on that.

Take care,
Maggie

Morning team!

Bekah--Wow, gotta watch myself during taper madness! Congratultions!!!

Jim--WTG on being the single parent and playing taxi cab driver. Glad the Galloway plan is working for you. I've never looked at his stuff--might check it out.

ANdrew--congrats on running the entire 5k!

Bill--3 coats of paint! Wow, can i hire you?? I have a kitchen in need of a repaint! I only require 2 coats!

Mike--Love the idea of the beer can hat!:lmao: I think we're finding a new WISH team uniform--leopard print heels, lime green sports bras (for us ladies) and beer can hats!:upsidedow

Gotta take DD to gymnastics this am (Jim, at least I only have to drive 2 miles) so I'm going to do a little light arm/ab work. I re-read the "27th mile" chapter in a Hal Higdon book this am, and really hit home that even though I felt good doing my slow mile yesterday--my body isn't ready to get back into training for a while. Don't wanna come to Minnie injured! Have a great Hump Day all!

Oh, and to make all ya'll northerners jealous--it was 70 here yesterday afternoon!

Ohhhh, Krista & I could do that and put our diet cokes in the hat instead of beer! :rotfl:

YES!!!!!! And then we can get the Amiphod packs to hold our extra cans of Diet Coke! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Good morning, TEAM!!!! Last night was a cross training night and it was pretty good. I did the bike for 10 minutes, the elliptical for 10 minutes, and then lifted weights for about 15-20 minutes. My legs were feeling it last night!!!! I did 3 sets of 10 of the leg extension, the one where you sit and pull your legs toward you (sorry, I don't know the names), and the one where you lay on your stomach and pull the weights toward your bum. Tonight it's another 3 miles on the TM followed by walking backwards, I just may raise the bar and walk for 2 songs!

Steve--Thank you SOOOO much for all of your help! My legs feel incredible, no pain yet. Knock on wood!!! I can't believe how sore my hamstrings were after walking backward for only 4 minutes on Monday. I told Stephen (my husband) that it's been a loooong time since doing something for only 4 minutes made me that sore! But it was definitely a good sore! That's awesome news that you might be able to get back out there by April!! I hope recovery continues to go smoothly for you! pixiedust:

Bill--Did you pass with flying colors??? :artist: Does the baby's room have a theme?

Bekah--And speaking of babies....CONGRATULATIONS!!!! How are you feeling???

Dave--I'd like to see Stephen too! He's been working so much lately, that I never see him--he leaves for work before 6:00 and doesn't get home until after 8:00. Thankfully the proposal he's working on is due on Friday, so I guess I'll see him this weekend.

Meghan--Good seeing you again!! Sorry, I can't help you with your situation, as I don't have kids yet, but I have heard of women wearing 2 sports bras.

Jim--I hope your wife is feeling better!!

Where's Judy????

Unfortunately, I have to get going. We're coming into our busy season at work and I can already feel it. That's okay, bigger sales means a bigger profit sharing check in December. And a bigger profit sharing chekc means I can spend more money in WDW!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Jim - Hope everyone's better soon.

Bekah - Been wondering where you were. COngratulations!

Andrew - COngrats on teh TM 5K!!!

Maggie - I hope life gets better soon!

I miss Judy too!

FOrgive me fro those I've missed.

Had the work out from you-know-where last night. I thought I could do one of the programs on the TM. Rolling hills sounded good. The bulk of it (at least for teh first 15 minutes) was a minute at 4% grade runing at 15 mpm, not too bad. The next minute was 10 mpm at 7% grade. :scared: . It's a miracle that I did not get thrown off the back of the TM! WHen I was counting down teh last 20 seconds of one of the 6 mpm intervals, hoping not to die :crazy2: , I decided to go manual. That was still not easy, but I did my 40 min. I think that's the last time I try one of those little programs! ::yes::
