Wk of Mar 26--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Oh my, where to start?

My weekend was fabulous! Went to quickly and always hard to say goodbye to my friend, but it was great. Plus, I got all of our marathon training logs and all of our marathon trip in my scrap book!! 109 pages!! I still need to journal, but what fun to relive it!

solo - Congrats on teh results of your trip!!! Must have been a lot of fun, what a great year for you guys!

mel - (((hugs)) Good luck with your dd's appointsments!

Sunny - That is awful! Try to take care of yourself! ((hugs))

Dana - What a cutie!

Amy - Woo hoo for your new running partner!

Kristi - Welcome!!

Cam - Hope you're doing better and did not have to work too hard this weekend!

Apologies to the many, many poeple I missed!

I'm fully recovered and feel much better. Now I just need the time to start work outs again! meetign tonight, so it looks like tomorrow. :(

Mel-- So sorry to hear about DD. I will PM you with my "TMI" when I get a chance. I'd love your opinion.

Lynda-- great job on the neg. splits and shaving 6 minutes. That's an awsome improvement.

Lisa(lovesPooh) Glad to see you! I've missed you :grouphug:

The water question: Water consumption is largely dictated by weather conditions. I recall an 18 miler last summer where I consumed a gallon of water/ade and still was 2-3 lbs lighter at the end of the run. It was 80 deg and high humidity. (Remember my shoe puddles?) I've also done 14-15 mile LRS with a single 16 oz bottle in the cold climates. YMMV

MelR-- What a great race report. That must have been so fulfilling to help the guy make it through. I saw a guy on the side around mile 20 at Disney and his friend/girlfriend trying to get him to continue you on. He was crying. I said a prayer for him, I felt so bad for him. Your PR is awsome, and that's with 2-3 pit stops. Wow!

I'm still in panic mode but I've made my voice heard at work. I've got to go pump some iron to get some muscle relaxation. This is doing a job on my fitness level :sad2: Poor DS is now sick with what I've had for 2+ weeks. TG Spring is (almost) here.

Sunny

Good morning everyone. :flower1: It really IS spring-like today here in New York for the first time. I love it! :mickeyjum

I've been suffering from two ailments. One I know what to do about, the other I don't. :rolleyes2

Both my knees have been killing me lately. I was trying to think of what I've been doing differently. I added only ten lunges each leg and a couple of minutes on the stationary bike. I have stopped both things and I'll see what happens over the next few days. Other then that I have no idea why they hurt so much.

The other thing I'm suffering from - which I really don't know what to do about - is lack of enthusiasm. MFM has been sitting on my nightstand for a week now and I haven't even picked it up. I've skipped my last two LWs. I'm not feeling all psyched about doing this. What do you do about waning enthusiasm? Maybe the nicer weather will help. Maybe getting outside and getting some sun. I've got to get out of this slump. It really stinks.

Having said that....I did do my usual 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1% this morning. And it did feel pretty good. (Except for the grapefruit-like knees I now have.) So maybe I am already on my way out of this slump.

Lisa - Glad to see you again! :yay:

Sunny - OMG! I feel so badly for you. I hope you get things resolved. No job is worth your health. Thank goodness you are so fit and strong and can work out to relieve some of that stress.

Mel - My DH was/is allergic to our cat and our horses! He got the shots and now sleeps with Lena on his pillow. (Lena is the cat, not the horse :lmao: ) The shots worked like a charm!

Jodi - I'm glad you're feeling a little better today! :goodvibes

Liz - Good luck with the new job! You are probably already there as I write this! :shamrock:

Dave - Wow, you re really doing fabulous! :thumbsup2 And BTW, thanks for the visual on the pig nose. Hee hee.

Dana - You're little man is so handsome!

Claire - Ha ha! Rest..study..same difference! :rotfl:

Krista - :wizard: for your knees. Maybe we should look into a group rate for knee replacements.

Paul - 20 miles??? :worship:

Mel - OMG! :cheer2: Way to go on the PR!! Great race report and pics!

Lynnda - Excellent run on Saturday! :thumbsup2

Cam - Geez, work always gets in the way, doesn't it? :upsidedow We have no time for work, we have to TRAIN!

OK, let me go see what they want from me now. Geez. :surfweb:

Judy

MelR -- awesome report! Great pix, too! Thank you for sharing! Geez, just when I thought my admiration level for you couldn't get any higher! THat was so nice, what you did for that young man. He will always remember that he finished his first marathon because of the kindness of strangers. Maybe at the 2007 full, you could double back and drag me off of whatever curb I collapse onto before the end. I am shaking already, just thinking about it.

Yippeeeee....SUNSHINE and relatively WARM today! :sunny: Happy Monday!

I went to KBX today....it was a HARD class. Made my run feel like a walk in the park LOL! He did 1 hr. 15 minutes and at the end of class he says...ok now three sets of FORTY push-ups but keep your boxing gloves on.!!! ACK! Yeah...I think I managed two sets of 40 if that. Geesh! My arms feel like spaghetti right now.

So here is my ego-busting moment of the day. A good friend of mine...who has been doing KBX for a long time....ran a half marathon this weekend. No big deal right?! WRONG! The girl never trained. Other than going to KBX and occasionally running 5 miles (at most) on her treadmill. She told me two weeks ago "I think I signed up for a half marathon on March 25th". I'm like..did ya' train? She laughed. NOPE! Never put a moment's thought into it LOL. Well....drum roll.....she finished in under 2 hours. And I'm happy for her...really I am....so supportive and thrilled :bitelip: :rolleyes1 . J/K...I really am happy for her but I can't imagine doing that! :confused3 She is super-human....trust me....she is in amazing shape. Obviously LOL! :rotfl: But the whole thing blew my mind. She said all the other Team in Training girls were yelling at her on the drove home! They've all been seriously training for the event and she finished ahead of everyone. She claims KBX is the reason she can do that. I beg to differ....no way could I run a half marathon today.

Judy: Sorry to hear about your knees :(. HOw are your dizzy spells...any better? And about your waning enthusiasm...I really believe that we all will be more inspired once spring finally arrives and the sun shines on us a bit more. It's been a long grey winter here! I know what makes me feel better....shopping! Maybe treat yourself to some new running type thing...a new outfit, book, something? Anyway. Hang in there!!! And have a doc check those knees if they don't feel better soon!

Mel: WTG :woohoo: on the race!!! Sounds like fun! And thanks for sharing pics! And I sure hope there's someone like you to help me out at my first marathon...I'm sure there will be times when I'll need a pep talk! You really were wonderful to help him finish! :cheer2: Great job!!!!

Carrie! Glad to hear you are feeling better and had a fun weekend!!!

Kevin: Glad to hear you had a great trip!!! Good luck on your run :)

Lynnda: WOW! Great run!!! :cheer2: WTG!!!

Sunny: Hope your little guy feels better soon! You guys really had some nasty bug there! Are you feeling better yet? Hang in there :grouphug:

Kim: WTG on your 15 miler. I don't run the long distances yet...but I find that I start to obsess over my pace. So I have tried to change up my routes a bit so that I don't know ever .5 and 1 mile marker LOL  . SOunds like you did great!

Cam: Wow your trip is really right around the corner :goodvibes . I'm glad the doc said your breathing is not an issue (phew!)....just keep working at it. I know that is one of my challenges as well....I try to focus one run a week on breathing and running technique. Literally not bother with pace, etc and just work on my form! Including my breathing form! I find it helps?!

Dave: Great job with your running club! Sounds like you are really improving rapidly!!! WTG!!! :woohoo:

Judy - I totally love amy's advice re: motivation!!!!! Buy yourself something running related. That is often my solution :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Sunny - sorry your little man is sick! That is way worse than being sick yourself. Oh, and, lift weight for muscle relaxation :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 If i did that I'd be in bed in pain for a week!

Amy - Glad it's spring for you! My running partner is super fast (she does train though)

Cam - Thank you! You are so sweet!

Carrie - Glad you are back from the land of the infirmed!!

Krista - How are your knees? I know phil had a big IT issue and he has done lots of stretching and strength training and it seems to be better.

Kim - I've gone out w/o my garmin b/4 just to experience the whole "freedom" thing. I'm not very obsessed w/ pace (basically b/c I'm a slower runner and will always be) but I obsess about the numbers. Like how far, mileage splits..... I feel your pain!

Kevin - So.... You thought your trip to Ark was wonderful? Did you enjoy Hot Springs? Have any hilly runs?????

So I found a pic of us w/ the guy (I don;t know how to spell his name, but I know what it is) We yelled (err. I mean encouraged him) to start running here and run out the finish. His parents were waiting at the end taking pics and they were very appreciative (I'm sure they heard us "encouraging" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: !)

efaf1a25.jpg

Say. Is it me...or does novice guy look a little like Keanu Reeves???? :teeth:

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies. I think I will buy myself something inspirational. Like perhaps some lime green running pants. :goodvibes

I just realized how much of a whiner I sound like. It's hard to keep up with all my ailments. Let that be a lesson to you young'uns. Take good care of yourself or else it will catch up to you later! But anyway, I'm going to stop my incessant whining and get my booty in gear! Enough already! :moped:

Cam- I will pick you up on my way! I am sure to be behind you! With Howard's pace, he could probably double back and meet both of us at AK! ;)

MelR- I love your race report and the photos! How great of Phil to run the marathon for you. He needs to do the Disney marathon with you in January. I think Krista, Carrie, and Christa have started a trend . . . marathoning with spouses. My DH is going Goofy in January, like Cam's DH. He plans to run the marathon with me and carry my stuff. :goodvibes

Judy- Feeling unmotivated is very normal. It is hard when you are working for a goal that is so far off to keep up the intensity level. Just keep putting in the steps and maybe mix up your workouts with some other type of activity to make it more interesting. When the weather is good enough, definitely go for some LWs outside. That will definitely make you feel better.

I enjoyed my bike safety course yesterday. I am feeling more confident about the MS150. I probably will not make it the whole 180 miles to Austin, but I have raised over $900 so far for the National MS Society, and it will definitely be a great experience for me. Hey, I will actually sleep in a tent the first night of the ride. I have never ever even come close to sleeping in a tent before. (Motel 6 is as close to "roughing it" as I have ever come) I was very excited to learn yesterday that there will be massage therapists at the overnight rest stop, which my team provides for free. A free massage at the end of the first 100 miles, plus free food and beer? I am so there!

I went to the gym this morning and rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes, practicing for the hills with the hill training setting. Then, I lifted weights and was surprised to learn that I needed to increase the weight on several of the machines. Geez, working out really works. Who knew? :confused3

:wizard: to everyone with colds, aches and pains. I hate to admit this to everyone still waiting for spring, but I actually got a sunburn yesterday during my bike training.

Keep up the great work everyone! To everyone training for the Columbus 1/2 marathon, we will all be cheering you on this weekend! :cheer2:

Hello everyone!

Mel invited me to stop by and join the thread so here I am!

I've got a WISH Journal going on and have been at it for one month now. To make a long story short, I'm a non-runner attempting to compete in the Disney half in 2007. I've got a 5k in my sights on April 15th (my first) and I sent my application off to run in the Peachtree Road Race (10k) on July 4th. I have found the Journal to be incredibly motivating and my results have been great over the first month. I'm using Marathoning for Mortals as my "training guide" and am still figuring out my optimum r/w pacing. This weekend I did my best 4 mile run ever, averaging 11 minute miles and even completing the first mile in 9:41.

I look forward to hearing everyone's results and plans and hope that I can help out in the thread. This week I've got 32 minute runs on Mon/Thurs and 30 minute elliptical XTraining sessions on Tues/Fri. My distance run is on Saturday (4 miles).

Thanks for allowing me to join! You all are really inspiring. I hope to make some new online friends and maybe even see some of you at WDW in January!

:yay:  Hi Scott!! I'm so glad you're joining us here!!!

You really had an amazing week of running and XT! :cheer2:

I know you will find this group to be amazing in support and knowledge! I've learned so much from everyone here. :grouphug: THanks guys! :)

Welcome Scott! It is great having so many guys joining our group. I know that Dave, Kevin, Craig, and Stephen will welcome the company. I love your blog site, and the photos of your family are fantastic. I sure miss my miniature schnauzers who are now chasing cats in heaven. I also admire your spirit in taking your DD to Disney alone last September, and I know it will be a trip she will never forget. Welcome to the WISH marathon team! :cheer2:

Welcome Scott! :welcome:

Wow, you have started off great! You will be able to do the half in no trouble. Good for you.

Great race report Mel. And good for you for helping that fella' finish the marathon. That was great, and I hope someone would do the same for me if I need it. I definitely expect pictures of you making pig noses with your fingers. Did you do that the whole race? Maybe that opened up your sinuses like a breath right strip.

So, I think I lost my running watch. I ended up going for a walk yesterday instead of a run. My DW needed to get her hair done. So I took the princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, out to exercise with me. I took them to the Genesee River Trail and they rode their bikes while I walked. We went for an hour and did a couple of miles. I was really impressed with their biking - especially my 5yo. To be honest, I didn't feel much like running yesterday. My shins were sore from Saturday's run, and I think I had a little stomach bug (found that out later in the day). Anyhow, I took the princesses, princess: princess:, out to lunch after we exercised, and I think I left my running watch in the restaurant. Hmmm, maybe I need to get that Garmin now. Is that a sign? Kim do you have the Garmin 201 at Medved? I may have a reason to stop in now. Although the sale price at amazon.com is looking pretty good.

Hey all - well you know I said we were cyclone free, ummm wrong!!! We now have the tail-end of cyclone Wattie (?!!!) hitting us at the moment. Was very glad I did my hour run on Saturday this week as Sunday was gale force winds and sheet rain. Although the fact that we had booked a girly tour of the vineyards on a nearby island means I was on a ferry during it, that was interesting. One girl (not from our group) spent the whole day with seasickness, thankfully I used my normal seasickness treatment (sausage roll and a beer) and survived with only a mild green tinge.

Thankfully the winds have now stopped but it's still raining, so yesterday was gym day. Am trying to motivate myself to do more gym work and have a new toy (well hopefully I do, it's downloading as we speak). It's called podfitness, and it's basically workouts from trainers, that you mix with your own music and download onto your ipod to do at the gym. Will let you know how I get on but I can't wait to try a treadmill one.

That's my news, sorry not to tackle everyone in turn, but it wouldn't let me post yesterday and now there's too many people and I've forgotten what I was meant to say - other than wooo-hooo Mel on your PB and the saving of Keanu. Helen

Dana-your little boy is a cutie!

Jodi-great job with the garmin

Heather-great job with the run with the dog. I wish my cats would go on runs with us they are leash trained but they also have us trained to follow them instead of them following us. :teeth:

Amy-great job running!!!!

Claire-I love your Garmins name-to cute!

Krista-sounds like you have a plan in mind good luck.

Paul-I know for me having something to distract me keeps me going. Whether it's music or when I'm at home on the elliptical watching tv the more distracted I am the better I do.

Lynnda-great job and hope your legs feel better

Christy-feel better soon!

DisneyGirl-good job!

Cam-Have fun at Disney and I hope you aren't TO buried

Kevin-way to run even when you're out of town. I need to keep that one figured out.

Mel-great report!

Kim-good job!

Carrie-that sounds like a great weekend. I need to get back to scrapbooking but that means finding more hours in the day.

Sunny-still thinking about ya

Judy-I hope your knees feel better soon. As for the motivation I've been lacking the past couple of months and finally found it last weekend. I hope you find yours soon.

Dave-I love the fact you are with a running club. I've looked for one in my area but they are all to far for me to want to travel to run.

Scott-WELCOME!

My update: I was not happy with the walking time that DH and I had on Saturday so Sunday we went back out and kicked it up. I was able to job more than I had on Saturday and we went 4.15 miles in 60 minutes. It is getting better to run but still taking it kind of slow to make sure my lungs are ready for it. :) Total yesterday we walked/jogged 70 minutes and went 4.75 miles.

Oh don't knock it 'till you've tried it :goodvibes I hit a PB today on the leg press.... 550 lbs :sail: (don't ask me why I chose that smiley) I was feeling extra super for at least an hour before the work kicked back in! But I now have a team of about 8 people helping so I may survive!

Judy-- oh definitely buy something running related! I finally had to resort ot wearing running clothes to work 'cause that's all I got :lmao:

Helen-- Do you still have those sequinn shoes? I'd say you better start clicking and look out for flying monkeys.

Welcome Scott!

Heather-- Kudos on the fund raising and embarking on such a cool adventure! Stay safe! :wizard:

Carrie-- you organizing mad-woman, you! Not only have I not "scrapped" a signal paper, my medals going all the way back to Applefest (Oct 05) are draped over my bedroom curtain rod! Yikes, where does the time go....? I'm impressed and green with envy. Come to think of it, the family photo albums only go upto DS's 2nd birthday. ugh.

I know I've missed a ton of replies I intended...

Also, has anyone heard from Christa? Lisa (MickeySP)? Lynn? If you're lurking, I miss you :grouphug:

Sunny - There are 2 points I would like to make about this statement. 1)That's cool that you get to keep them, the boy takes all of mine! As a general rule, he drags them on the ground and bangs them around and discards them when he becomes bored. He didn't really want the hogeye one b/c it looks like the medal i got for the 1/2 last yr. He just looked at it and said, "oh, you ran the piggie race again." 2)You could just take a picture of your bedroom curtain rod and put it in a scrapbook!! This would save time and it would be complete! :rotfl2: :lmao: Whad ya think?

Glad you got some help at work and congrats on your PB w/ the elephants or VW's!!!!

Hi everyone!

Welcome to the newbie! More new folks! This is getting exciting.

MelR, Loved the report.

Judy, don't overdo on those knees. Maybe try some XT and mild leg work to get keep you moving and building strength in the legs and joints. Motivation?, put one step in front of the other on those days that are just not ones you want to do. Some days will be like that. Don't stop!

Love the little guy pic! So cute.

Sunny, so hoping you get it all figured out. Stress is not any fun for sure.

Dave, looking forward to the "socks report."

Columbus 1/2 is this weekend! I am looking forward to the time. I missed my 5 miles this weekend. DH and I did 2 miles today. It was a great day. XT this weekend with cleaning stuff. Spring cleaning chores and we had the weekend free, so it has begun. Had the dogs in for their dentals, major dollar investment here. One had 5 teeth extracted, X-rays for some wheezing she was having, a growth removed from her lip and stitches; the other had 1 extracted. Pain meds, heartworm meds, antibiotics....and Moaning Myrtle for a couple of days. Things are improving. I'm on taper this weekend. (Shhh don't tell anyone, but I've been on taper since my return from Goofy in January! :lmao: ) This is my quarter with the docs. I have a follow-up with one of the docc tomorrow. I'm getting closer to being done with most of the docs now I hope.

I ordered a Goofy plaque from Fond Memories and it was delivered today! It is beautiful. I am challenged in the creativity department, so I bought one. I printed a couple of pics from the event that we took and I am thrilled with it!

Keep on keepin' on everyone. We're doing great!

Good Evening Everyone:

It was a beautiful day here today so I got myself off the treadmill and ran outside. I didn't know my course, but I think I ran between 2.5 and 3 miles in 28 min. It was a tough run today, very hilly, and my shins felt sore, but I got my steps in.

I also wanted to thank everyone here for being so positive and supportive. :thanks: So many of you have said such kind things about my running. I honestly think I would not have stuck it out for this long (almost 3 months now) without the encouragement I've gotten from this TEAM. Just this week Mel, Lynnda, Cam, Judy, Amy, Beth, and others have really been so kind in offering up support for my running. And I know the rest of you have been really supportive along this 3 months as well. Sometimes, I don't think I'm really doing all that much, but your support really is such a help to me. I just wanted to say really do appreciate everyone's kind words, and the camarderie I get from this board.

OK, enough of the mushy stuff. Thanks for everything. BTW: I got an e-mail from "The Sock Guy" and they said custom sock designs for us will be coming soon. I can't wait.

I never got around to finishing last week's posts, but I've almost caught up with this week's... If my life hadn't been crazy enough for the past few weeks, my MIL went in the hospital Friday and will have surgery sometime this week. So we had to make more hospital visits last weekend while trying to move the rest of the furniture out of my mom's apartment.

It had been 10 days since I last ran, but while DD was at the orthodontist today I managed to get out and do a 30 minute wog. I was afraid I'd forgotten how!

Amy - Great time on your 3. miles!

Mel - Congrats on your PR!

Liz - Hope your back gets better soon.

Scott - Welcome!

Good luck to everyone running the Columbus 1/2 this weekend!

Lynnda—Awesome workout! I can’t imagine WANTING to work out longer, but right now I’m hoping for WANTING to workout at all!

Cam - :teeth: I have to agree with Sunny on this... it is such a great stress reliever! I will admit that at this time in my life I really do have very little stress except that which is caused by a hyper 2yo... I think I should have been a fish, though - I LOVE the water! Have a great time at WDW - maybe it will inspire you so much that you will want to workout!!! :thumbsup2

Jodi - Great job on the bosu last night! Hope you had a good day - I totally understand the not-sleeping thing!

Kristi - Yea for improving your time!!!

Christy - get well soon!!!!

Disneygirl - great job on the elliptical and good luck on your half!!!

Melissa - Awesome race report! And that is so cool that you talked the guy through to the finish! :goodvibes

Kevin - glad you had a great trip and good job on the run!

Kim - great job on your 15! I also get hung up on the pacing with the garmin, but I'm too addicted to it to go without!

Carrie - WTG on the scrapbooking! I wish I was better at it - I haven't even started DS's baby book - and he's almost 3!!! :lmao:

Judy - So sorry to hear about your knee problems! As for the lack of motivation - I was struggling last summer because the marathon seemed so far away, and it was way too hot to run, but DH kept encouraging me. That and the fact that I had already paid money for the marathon meant I couldn't quit! ;) Do you have any short term goals - any local 5K's?

Amy - great job on the KBX - 2 sets of 40 pushups is AWESOME!!!

Heather - the MS150 sounds neat! I will have to look into some of the longer rides around here (but not that long...) - biking is definitely addictive!

Scott - Welcome!!! You are certainly off to a great start!!!

Dave - I think that is a sign - get a garmin!!! You'll love it! :thumbsup2

Helen - so glad you got through the cyclone okay!

Sunny - I'm with you on the medals, except mine and DH's are draped over our mirror above the dresser! No scrapbooking here! ;)

Lily - good luck at the Columbus! And how neat that you got your Goofy plaque!!

Jackie - So sorry you are dealing with all of this stress, but great job getting your wog in today!!!

Here is our happy news of the day... we got our certificates and recaps from the Marathon - Yea!!!

I decided to rest my legs today. However, we have friends coming in tomorrow, so I decided this would be a great day to scrub down the house. So I guess I got about 8 hours of upper body work in! :rotfl: DH did a 6 mile run tonight and had his best time for that distance - averaging 10:24 - Woo-Hoo!!! :lovestruc

Everyone is doing great!!! Can't wait to see many of you at the Minnie!!!

--Lynnda
