Wk of Mar 26--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Carrie & Claire - thanks for tips on the swelling hands & numb feet! I am going to try not to tie my shoes as tight. If that doesn't work, I will try those other ways of lacing and see if that helps. I am also going to make a conscience effort to keep my hands at heart level while walking. I tend to swing my arms but keep them down to my sides. I bet keeping them up like I do when I am running would help alot.

Liz - awesome phone call!

Today was my rest day, thank goodness, cuz I am still stuck with this sore throat/cough thing that's been going around. And whenever I have a cough, my asthma goes right down the tubes. I am hoping to be good enough tomorrow morning to go out for my walk/run - even if it's all just fast walking.

DH mentioned to me today that the Goofy is already over 30% full, FYI. He is going to sign up soon. We didn't think it would fill up so fast - must be all the WISHers!

Kristi-I am exactly the same way the minute I start coughing I better make sure my inhalers are current and full and I also have to make sure the nebulizer is working. After losing weight I am very rarely bothered by asthma any more but when the sinus's keep draiining and the coughing starts I'm in for it. Good luck tomorrow!

Nancy - Thank you for the reply on both threads. I am very close to selecting the 2 trip option to go to the flower/garden show since I won't be there for the Minnie.

Liz - Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tiff - Please accept my sympathy on your family's loss :grouphug:

Krista - I have a yellow lab (Samantha Jo) that topped out at 125 before we had to put her on a diet for her joint health. She is getting older but is a wonderful part of our family

I hope to be albe to walk outside tomorrow as the day is supposed to be nice. I am so ready to get back to it!!!!

Happy training everyone!!!!!!

Jackie - You go girl! You must be in great shape! Nothing like someone telling you that you can't do something to set you right out on proving them wrong!

I only wish I were in great shape. I'm paying for that stubborn streak of "I'll show him" today. Nothing like overdoing it to make the next day seem really long. I'm hoping when I wake up tomorrow I'll feel normal again and be ready to run.

Amy - How'd the play go?

Liz - Wow! What a great phone call, and what great motivation!

Dave - I can have socks for the Minnie! Yea!! Now we just have to work out the details... As for your DD's birthday, we celebrated my DD's 8th birthday at MK - had a great dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern, she got to be in the parade, all sorts of fun stuff. You might try it from that angle...

Kevin - Why, of course the dog's in charge. Who else would be? It's all about the dogs!

I had a good walk today. I tried keeping my hands up and pumping as if I were running and not only did it help with the swelling, but it also seemed to help me pick up my pace! For me, anything that gets me going faster is a very good thing!

Liz Awesome phone call!

Tiff Sorry about your loss. It's never easy to lose a loved one, regardless of age or circumstances.

Claire Prayers and PD :wizard: for your friend's son

Jodi Awesome 5K!

Hope everyone doing Chicago has a great race! Waddle on!

Liz - That is so AWESOME!!! How very exciting to be missed! You probably set a record pace today walking on air :teeth:

So, my work out partners for the last 2 days have been a 3yo, a 63yo and a 68yo. We must look like quite the crew! Yesterday we did the walk along a river trail for 4.5miles. Today (after my dad and his friend) finished w/ their men's fri. morn. coffee gp, we loaded up to go to the Buffalo Nat. River (one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen) for a kayaking trip. It started raining on us on the way down, so we milled around for a while and had actually decided to bail. The boy (from the back seat of the car) yells out, "God, will you please stop the rain so we can have our 'eventure' (that would be boy talk for adventure). We drove down river to pick up our shuttle car, and the rain stopped and sun came out. B/c we grownups were a little more cynical than the boy, we decided to just put in and mess around and paddle as far upstream as we could b/4 the rain started again and then turn around and come back if it did rain. Well, (as Forrest Gump would say) just then, God showed up, b/c it did not rain another drop on us the rest of the day. We paddled for aprox 7.5 miles (sadly 1/2 of that was upstream) It was wonderful and it was the 1st time i have had the kayak on the river and the 1st time the boy has been on a river instead of the lake. He seemed to have a great time!!! I think we are all pretty much exhausted!!!

I'm thinking about dragging someone to go mt. biking w/ me tomorrow as there are awesome trails around here (not the 3 yo, maybe i'll get one of the elder members of my exercise crew) I have been keeping phil informed of our adventures while he is doing his Cme in CA. I'm feeling just a little guilty about my mom and dad's extreme sports retreat get away, but oh well!!!

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Forgot to say that I had my 1 hour yoga X-training yesterday. It felt good to have an hour of stretching, etc. Plus I really needed that relaxation time in the last 15 min of the class.

Thanks everyone for the advice on breaking it to my wife about wanting to run the Disney marathon. I know I need to break the news to her soon. I just need to think about when the best time would be. Oh, and I definitely want her there in WDW with me to see me run. I wasn't ever thinking I would do a solo trip for the marathon because I want to share the experience with my best friend/my wife.

Claire/lilouisianagal- wow, I'm really impressed with your training runs - 12 miles, 13.1 total. That is awesome! :thumbsup2 :cool1: WTG! Best wishes on your best friend's kids. Sounds like she has a lot going on. And good for you for your work in NOLA. Be safe. Thanks for the idea about the penguin holding the feather for the socks. I think I'm going to hold off on sending SockGuy anymore ideas right now because I just sent them about 4 different ideas this week. I want to see the new designs they come up with, and then I thought I would post a poll to vote on the socks.

Tiff - WTG about running in the rain!!! :thumbsup2 You are so dedicated now. That is awesome!
Dave & Kevin-sorry you cant do the Minnie with us. Although since it's for women only I'm hoping for pink race shirts
I sure hope someone takes a team picture of everyone at the Minnie and posts it on the board.
Finally, I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your grandfather. I hope he was able to go peacefully. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Kristi - good luck with your training and I hope your hands swelling problem goes away. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Goofy is already over 30% full
YIKES!!! :scared1: I need to get my act together.

Thanks for the tip - I may try to look into birthday celebrations at Disney. Both our princesses princess: princess: have January birthdays so I thought maybe we could have separate birthday celebrations for each princess and then we wouldn't have any birthday parties here. Use the money we would use to have a birthday party here for our trip for the marathon next Janaury. I was also thinking of inviting my sister-in-law (i.e., cool Aunt Anne to the princesses princess: princess:) to come down to WDW that weekend too. She's never been to WDW, loves the kids, the kids love her, and I thought that way my wife wouldn't have to handle the princesses princess: princess: alone while I'm running the marathon. I thought it might give us a built in babysitter too for DW and I to go out and have some quality time ourselves. Can you tell I've been doing a lot of thinking about this during my runs?

Great job on your walk Nancy! :thumbsup2

MelR - sounds like you are having a great weekend with your parents. I certainly don't know your situation, but it doesn't sound like to me you have any reason to feel guilty about your sports retreat getaway at all. Is it because Phil isn't there with you? I'm sure the boy is having a great time on the eventure with Mom and the grandparents. Sounds like a great weekend. Keep having fun. Any news about the 50 miler you've been training for?

OK, I have my group run today. When I first got up it was raining, but I'm determined to go. I think it stopped raining now, and I can hear the birds singing out there. Happy Saturday everyone!!!

Sending out happy thoughts to everyone running in Columbus today :goodvibes. Waddle On!!! Go WISH TEAM!!!!

Hi Dave - Yes, already registered for the Goofy! Looking forward to it - I plan on taking it at a comfortable speed for the 1/2 and then go a little bit harder (but not pushing it) for the full.

I going to Florida alone, but will be running both races with a friend that had moved to Florida last year.

Yikes. I guess I need to go ahead and register for the race(s). I'd like to run/walk both half and full at 12 mpm or better.

And I'm also going to Florida alone, so yall keep your eyes out for the short, curly-headed girl dressed in lime green carrying a feather! :goodvibes

Good Morning!!!!!

Just wanted to WISH all of our Columbus folks a great race!!! Hoping for a nice day and a great race! I know you ladies will rock!! Can' wait to hear all about it!!!

:woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo:

Thanks to everyone for their sympathy. It is so great to be a part of this wonderful group. I truly feel blessed that I found you guys. :grouphug: My DS5 goes to preschool at our church & when I picked him up this afternoon I told him about Paw-Paw. He said at least now he is where someone can watch over him (meaning in Heaven with God) and that he was going to pray for him every day & when it was his turn to be leader at prayer circle he was going to ask all his friends to pray for Paw-Paw. Aren't kids great!

Dave-that would be a great idea for a birthday trip. DS8 b-day is right before Christmas so I gave him a choice of having a party or doing something extra special while we where at WDW. Being the smart Disney addict that I have raised he chose to do something at WDW. We did Chef Mickey's character breakfast & rented the sea mice (2 person boats) They were so much fun. I had DS8 in the boat with me & DH had DS5 with him. We were staying at WL so we rented from there & could race with each other & drove over to in front of MK & Poly & GF. It was awesome. :thumbsup2 And after doing all that his favorite part of the trip was when we went to the expo & he got the free Clif bars in his race bag (he did the 5K)& we gave him ours too  There are lots of great things to do for girls. DTD has a new place called Bibbity Bobbity Boutique that does dress up girlly things and there are several princess breakfasts you could do. Taking aunt would be good too. I had a whole crew there(my parents, SIL & 2 nieces)It was great to have a bigger support group to enjoy the event with. Sorry to go on, but planning a WDW trip (even if it isnt my own) is kind of an obsession of mine. :lovestruc

Good luck to those doing the Columbus race!

Today is an off day but I will be xt with laundry, packing & cleaning up to leave town in the a.m. The hotel we are staying at has a small gym so at least I should be able to get something in while I'm gone. My poor mom had to leave last night & is going to have to do her 7 miler in SC.

Tiff: Thinking of you and your family. :grouphug:

:cheer2:  :cheer2: CHEERING ON ALL OF YOU AT THE COLUMBUS RACE TODAY :cheer2:  :cheer2:

Good Luck and Have FUN!!!!!!!

Hey everyone. Hubby took the girls with him to grandmas, so I went out for a run. Today was supposed to be sunny, but its not. Instead it is dreary and a bit breezy. I did 3 miles in 42 minutes. I was pretty proud of myself. I even called hubby on the cell phone while I was doing my cool down walk.

Dave, last fall we took DD5 to WDW during her birthday. We booked a breakfast at Cindy's because she is a princess nut. They gave her a Birthday Card picture and all the princesses and Fairy God Mother signed it. She thought that was the best thing in the world. In fact she is bummed that she can't go again during her birthday!

Mel, your eventures sound great.

Claire, wow, you are doing great with your running. Someone from my church is in NOLA right now helping with rebuilding. He was raised there and still has family living there. That is great that you are helping out.

OK, I am home alone right now, so I best not waste that time on the internet!!!!

All righty, you all were so nice in inviting me on board and I feel bad because I have not posted for 3 days - got really busy at work and was bushed each night so I did not log on until today.

Mouse Skywalker, I am in the very same boat with DW and doing the Goofy. Unfortunately, she already knows how much I want to do this but she will not be coming with me. She does not want to take DD and DS out of school for even 2 days (Friday and Monday) and we have no one to have the kids stay with for a parents only trip. So, it looks like I am going solo. What a great wife I have to let me go solo .

My training today was again longer than anticipated. Seems every time I run with the running club I belong to I add miles. Started out going to do 10 and ended up doing 11.5. The killer is is that our group went out this route that had a hill that was more than 3-miles-long - not steep but 3-miles-long - those guys are evil :stir: . The good news is the top of the hill was the turnaround and that meant the next 3 miles were all downhill. I returned to our starting point by myself and did that in 7 less minutes than it took us to get out to the turn around point. So I ended up with 11.6 miles in 1:24:36 for another great Saturday morning run. I do so much better when running with a group.

Well, thanks again everyone for welcoming me aboard and GOOD LUCK EVERYONE IN COLUMBUS TODAY.

Go Columbus Racers!!!!!

I got out on the bike path for the first time since Dec 3rd! It was great. I did 8.4 miles in 1:29 (10:40 pace). No speed records but I enjoyed myself. By the end I was starting to think I might still be a runner.

OOPS, I forgot, it is now official - they have my money and now I have to make sure I keep up the training - I am now registered for the Goofy Challenge for 2007.

Yeah! :woohoo: When I registered for the Goofy I also had the same thought as you.....I have to make sure I keep up with the training.....the motivation on the board will keep you going.

I know there is a place on the WISH board, where people have posted pictures - maybe closer to the time of Marathon weekend, we should all post pictures of what we look like?

Wow!!! I miss a day, and I have three pages to catch up on! ;) Good Luck to all our racers this weekend! I can't wait to hear from the Columbus Crew! :cool1: Also, thank you so much for all the well wishes on my swimming and weight loss - your encouragement means so much!!!

goofyguy - great job on the run!!! And congrats on signing up for goofy - YEA!!!! My DH is still deciding between Mickey and Goofy... I told him he just needs to go for it! :thumbsup2

Sunny - Great job on the bike today!

Jen - Enjoy your alone time! :goodvibes And good job on the run today!!! Oh - I just read back a little more... we have a golden baby, too. He is 5 years old, 65 pounds, and his name is Tigger (and yes, he really bounces!) :lovestruc

Tiff - I am so sorry for your loss! How sweet of your DS, though - you must be doing a great job with him! :thumbsup2 By the way, my DS has "Paw-Paw" too! Please know we are praying for you and your family. :grouphug: As for the tri - yes I'm doing Danskin, and it's the week after Minnie. I'm concerned about them being so close together, but I'm just doing the Minnie for the experience, not for a specific time, so I will try to take it easy... Of course all bets are off on race day! Which one are you looking at for June? I would LOVE a pool swim rather than a lake swim. I am going to try my first open water swim next weekend - YIKES!!!

Claire - Sign up for Goofy!!! ;) You won't be alone - you will have tons of Wishers there to support you (and have lots of fun with!!!)

Dave - It sounds like you have the trip all planned out - everything sounds great! Lots of pixiedust: for when you talk to your wife - I'm sure your family will love going!

Melissa - Love your "eventure" - it sounds awesome!!!

Nancy - YEA for being faster!!! And I'm glad that helped the swelling! I will have to try it next weekend. I freaked when I read about your gator encounter! For our 10+ mile runs, we go past two retention ponds that we know have gators... I am paranoid about being face-to-face with one!

Jackie - Sorry to hear you're in pain - hope you feel better soon!!!

Minnie - I hope you are able to go to WDW twice - how exciting! Let us know how your walk goes tomorrow!

Kristi - Feel better soon!!! :wizard:

Claire - AWESOME job on the 13.1!!! That's great that you are going to NOLA - I would definitely call that cross-training!!!

Jodi - great job on your 5K time - You will be flying by May!!! :cool1:

Kevin - Yea for getting your certificate! We will have to look for the quotes on the CD. DH did manage to get a picture with all of them along the course, but some quotes got cut off because of the time clocks being in the way. Can't wait to read tham all again!!!

Carrie - Hope work lets up for you soon and you are able to run again!

Amy - great job on your run, and especially on the two hills!!! Way to go!!!

Liz - WOW!!!!!! How awesome!!!!!! :woohoo:

Judy - good job on changing things up! How did you feel afterward?

Krista - I had to laugh when I read about Hines going for a swim! (Not funny that it was your car, though!!) Our golden HATES the water - we have tried and tried to get him to swim... NOPE! We even tried one of those doggie life vests - he swam back to the edge of the pool, and he was done! Oh well!

TnTsParty - Good luck on your 5K!!! Let us know how it goes! :thumbsup2

For my update, I have a math lesson for all you WISHERS...
9 mile run/walk + head cold + cold meds + hot Florida sun = STONKER!!! :lmao:
I did it, but it was not pretty!!! I finished under the Minnie pace, though, so I know I'm okay on race day even if I'm sick - yea! Yesterday was an 80 min swim workout. Tomorrow evening is supposed to be a 9 mile bike/2 mile run along the beach with a couple friends who are also doing the Danskin, but we'll see how I'm feeling.

ETA - I forgot to share about DH's run this morning... He did 12 miles at 11:11 pace - his best at that distance - YEA!!!! :cloud9:

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Keep up the great work!!!

Hi Jodi.... Both Susan and I use the Amphipod system. They close with velcro. Mine is simply a plan belt that I can slide on a fluid flask, gel flask or a pocket. Susan's is able to be resized, mine is one size and you need to try it on to make sure you have the right fit. The first one I bought I didn't realize this because Susan's resizes and was listed as a one fits all.

When I bought my belt it came with 4 fluid flasks and the small pouch. I have since bought the large pouch which I prefer because I always carry my cell phone (even on the Half, I was able to call DH from the finish area before I was given my Donald). The gel flasks are sold separately and I have the 1 which I think it took almost 4 powergel size packets to fill for the Half which I didn't even use over a 1/4 of it, but that's me. We both had 1 water and 1 gatoraide and 1 gel flask on our belts for the Disney Half and our Jelly Belly Sport Beans in the pouches (never touched them on the race).

We really like our system. I know some don't so check all the systems and see what you think will work best for you. The flasks can sometime be a bit hard to slip them into their cradles but I've only dropped 1 once. :)

We use our belts for almost every time we go out to train so they are very much a part of our routine. For the Half I had used a iPod zippered pouch that had a belt loop that I was able to also works well on my belt. The only complaint I have with my iPod case (bought at Target) is that with gloves on I was afraid to take my iPod out of the case to turn it on and had trouble handling it with the gloves so left it off for the entire Half. Either I'm getting a new case for Disneyland or it's not making the race ;)

I saw the beginning of the thread and the list of 2007 WISH Members and my jaw hit the floor when I saw my name LMBO Thanks for thinking of me and addingme to the list. Very kewl! I'm in Michigan :) We did the Hanson 5K last weekend, poorly I might add LOL I did better then last year but only by seconds LMBO Next year I vow to be much much better, at the very least 30 seconds faster ;)

We've been getting in the steps this week more than in past weeks. We've had some troubles prior to this because the park we use has a tendancy to flood with the heavy rains. Even then though we tried to get some short walks.

This past week though has been good.

Sunday we did 2.9 miles with our DHs and short legged dogs
Monday 1.25 for me and 2.00 for Susan separately with the dogs
Tuesday I took off
Wednesday we did 7 miles - lots of chatting with 3 ladies.
Thursday was another doggy night of 3 miles
Friday - off
Saturday - 8 miles :) I know todays the pace was slow but we only planned on doing the miles. Susan's been having a pain with her foot and has a Dr appt scheduled but can't get in till after Easter.

So we're finally getting our schedules back together. We were able to get some walks in during the days it was upper 30's and low 40's but it's awfully nice to have temps over 50 again :thumbsup2 The other day it was almost 60 and I was feeling warmed up enough to add in some short runs while DH held the leash. Poor pooch, she was so zonked out that night :)

Our pace sucks right now but we know we'll get it down again and hopefully even better then our paces from January.

Happy training to all :) Oh, we'll be traveling down to Toledo for the Zoo's Dart Frog Dash (the weekend after Easter), it's a 5K and we did their 1st one last year and it was fun so we decided we'd do it again :) They allow both walkers and runners. Last year it was cold, raining and snowing so hopefully this year will be warmer and sunny :)

Tomorrow is Doggy & Hubby Day, the plan is to do 3 miles. We have a bowling league in the afternoon and in the fall I was zonked with doing the 7 miles followed with the bowling so tomorrow we're happily doing a short walk with the "family"

This is a random post, but I felt like it needed to be said. Since pming all of you would take FOREVER, here it all is:
