Wk of Mar 18--WISH Walking/Running Club

Carrie I think you are right about not setting a time goal for the marathon, but I think that is going to be very hard for me to do. I think it's been programmed in me. I'll have to work a little on enjoying the journey and not the destination.

It's still incredibly hard for me, even after so many years off. Our goal last year really was to nishe, but we were thrilled that we beat the wag time estimate that we set when we signed up. This year we had a goal time and did worse than last. I know it's the heat, but it's still hard.

This fall, I was running in a huge park near my home. They were having a cross invitational. Part of me wanted to see if I caould find my old coach, as I had my marathon shirt on. The other part of me was so ashamed of my pace, that I could not bear to think about seeing him. I broke 21 minute sfo 5k several time in hs. On on ereally flat course, I had a 20:19 IIRC. Now, I feel like I'm flying if I can break 10 mpm for 4 to 6 miles (and it's been a long time since I did that). I'm hoping for 10:30 fro teh Minnie, but it's looking out of reach.

On the flip side, I got and e-mail frm someone who was a senior runner, when I was a freshman. Plus, she was much better than I ever was. She said how great it was that I did a marathon. SHe dreams of doing it. And she admonished me fo rputting down my pace. That helped a lot.

So, I know it's hard, but setting a pace goal is just setting yourseslf up for a letdown if the conditions are poor, when you should just be thrilled to finish. Easier said than done, though. Especially, when there's still that nagging competitor in you. ;)

(Ladies - Ever notice how every guy on the WISH boards is a TOTAL FOX!!?!?! WHOOO HOOO! If that ain't reason enough to hang around here I don't know what is!)

Why thank you!... How you doin'? :cool2: (Although, we've never actually met... so....

And of course I will give you a shout if I do end up doing NYC. They only took abou half of the people in the lottery last year, so I don't have my hopes up. I don't know what I'll do if I actually get accepted....

Thanks to everyone for your opinions on PC. I'm still on the fence, trying to mull it over. Part of me was thinking AKL too.... but with all the construction, I don't know. I'll probably change my reservation 6 times between then and now anyways. :)

Cindy-- I don't know what it would be like to run with 40,000 people either. At WDW there's a LOT of energy-- I can't imagine what that would be like. I second what Carrie said about not setting a firm time goal, as much as you might want to. You would hate to be disappointed with some aspect of your first event.... because finishing is an accomplishment in its own right! (That's why they give you a medal :goodvibes ) You might even suprise yourself by how well you do (as was the case with me.)

Minnie-- Obviously, I solo at WDW and I find it perfectly safe. Like any place, use your street smarts. That said, I would worry more about downtown Orlando than I would the WDW portion of your trip. While WDW is a nice safe, friendly place, there are some not-so-great sections of Orlando proper.

Angie-- Right there with you sister! I find it WAY harder to train when I don't have a race coming up. (And I found that 5Ks don't count in that regard...at least for me.) Luckily the weather is finally turning around so that it's enjoyable to get outside again.

Hit the gym last night as opposed to running, but at least I got a good 90 minutes in. Hoping to get outside tonight if things go as planned.

Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:

Hey Kevin, don't wait too long to book your room. From what I hear marathon weekend is starting to fill up. I've never met you either, but I've seen pictures....:goodvibes

Good morning TEAM!!! I SO needed your opinion yesterday, I hated that the boards were down all afternoon. I've been doing my long run's on Sunday, but I need to do my lr on Saturday this week. Stephen is doing a 15K on Sunday, he'll get home from that and I'll get home from church about the same time, I know he won't want to wait an hour and a half for me to run 8 miles before we go eat. The dilemma was if I run Saturday, I still needed to get 2 more 4 milers in for the week--I didn't want to run 4 miles on Tues/Wed/Thurs, but at the same time I didn't want to run 4 miles on Tues/Wed xt on Thurs and then 4 miles on Fri and 8 miles on Saturday. I ended up just running 2 miles yesterday and then coming home and doing a series of light leg weights. We have some of those weights that you wrap around your ankles, I think they are like 5 lbs each, so I did a bunch of repetitions. I laid on my back and lifted my legs straight up and then I laid on my stomach and pulled my legs up to my bum. It was sort of like a poor man's gym!! It's looking my 4 miles are going to be on the treadmill tonight, it's pouring rain and storming here. :umbrella: :umbrella: :umbrella:

CDC People--Yes, Stephen and I booked our hotel for the weekend and I turned my vacation day in for Monday! :woohoo: We're not completely sure if we are going or not, but it's looking like we are. I have never been to Chicago before, so I am excited!!! I already told Stephen I am getting some pizza while we are there. We are booked at the Chicago Hilton, it's the official hotel of the marathon, so it's a quarter mile from the start/finish line AND the Expo is located there. We figured we couldn't go wrong!

Kristi--It frightens me that you can clearly define what a stalker is! :rolleyes1 How is your leg?

Colleen--That's awesome news about the Boston Marathon for your DH!! :cheer2: I know that's a huge relief for you.

Martha--Excellent 3 mile time!! Enjoy your rest day. Are Craig and Lesley have loads of fun in Europe?

Stephanie--Take it easy on your knee. I know you don't want to hear it, but resting really is the best cure for a running injury.

Cam--You would be surprised what Hines will do for a treat!! That is hysterical about Jenn e-mailing Cali, that is completely something I would do! I know this might be hard for you to believe, but I talk to Hines like he is a person and not a dog.

Kevin--We've stayed at the Pop a day or two at the beginning or end of a vacation and I really like it. Granted it's no Polynesian, but it certainly has the Disney magic. We stayed at All Stars Movies on the Friday/Saturday of the marathon and didn't have any problems with transportation or loud neighbors. Good luck on New York, that is on my list to run!

Jen--Have you recovered from your "injury". What in the world did your DH say after that? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Of course, he's so sweet, I'm sure he didn't laugh at you. :rotfl: Thanks again for posting a thread of recipes, I'm going to print them all out. I know how busy you are, I REALLY appreciate it. :goodvibes

Mel--Do NOT go through Atlanta!!!! That is worst airport ever!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I really like flying Air Tran, the flight attendants are so nice, they even refill your beverages and give you extra snacks. :thumbsup2

Lily--So glad to "see" you again! Hey, you are pretty close to Chicago! :thumbsup2

Pat--Thanks for the info on the CDC. I didn't realize until yesterday that the CDC is ONLY a half and the one in Oct was ONLY a full. You learn something new every day! Thanks for the invite to your house for a WISH pasta party, you are too sweet. :flower3:

Jackie--We have the picture problem with Hines too. If you DON'T use a flash, it's too dark and his features get lost, if you DO use a flash, well to put it nicely, he looks like a monkey. Stephen and I laugh at his expense a lot. :teeth:

Angie--What a nightmare!! I've had my driver's license mailed from PA to MI (long story, all I'm going to say is: in-laws), so I feel your pain! Don't worry about letting your running slide a little bit, you have a lot on your plate right now.

Matt--And I think I've gained a couple of pounds. WOW!

Sunny--Congrats on the new treadmill. I love having one at home, it makes training SO much easier.

Judy--How is your knee holding up?

Carrie--Did ya call your brother???

Lisa and Lynnda--How are you girls holding up??? Lisa, do we have a baby yet?

Wow, this is like the best post I've ever done. I should get an award for this baby. ;)

Good Morning TEAM!

Matt - looks like one of those wacky carnival mirrors!

To those members who just purchased tm's, what brand are they and may I ask how much they were? The repairman is suppose to come out on Monday and hopefully be able to repair mine, if not, I may have to go shopping!;)

I went on a 9 mile walk yesterday and boy it was brutal. The snow is starting to melt in some spots, which makes it hard to walk on. At one point of the walk my left leg sunk in the snow up to my knee, so I used my right arm to push me out of it. Needless to say my right arm sunk to my shoulder, so there I was laying in the snow with my left leg stuck and my right arm stuck ...I must have been quite the sight. lol.:rotfl: Thankfully I was able to pull myself out of the snow by using my right leg and left arm....what a workout. I sunk a few more times throughout the walk, but not as bad as first time. ha,ha.:lmao:

Judy, wait the picture in my avatar is not really me. I don't really have a wrinkled up little green guy on my back.

Nice try, Dave, but yet again....I've seen pictures....;)

Ahh, it's a sad day when Luke Skywalker suddenly seems so young to me....:sad2:

Hi Monte,

We bought a Vision Fitness 9450 Deluxe 4 months ago and have been very happy with it. It's a folding model, but I don't find it wobbly. When buying it you can mix and match the TM part and the console part. You choose the TM part by length, incline %, motor horsepower, folding vs. non-folding and how much cushioning the belt has. Then you choose the console with the Premier having all the bells and whistles, followed by the Deluxe and the Simple. The list price for ours was $2K, but by asking if it was negotiable the guy took $200 off and threw in a rubber mat to put it on. Delivery and set up were an extra $100.

Good luck.
Cindy

Monica: :lmao: I have quite the picture in my head of that. Hopefully you weren't in TOO public a place so not many could laugh but someone could help you out.

aladdinsgirl: Craig and Lesley are on the airplane now coming home. They've had a wonderful time, at least from what their emails have said. Of course, I'm home shoveling ice and snow and cleaning litter boxes!

Kevin: I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get into NYC marathon.

Judy: :thumbsup2 on the 3 mile run! I only wear compression shorts under other shorts. Yup, it feels like a girdle but it does a pretty good job of keeping things in order :teeth:

Jen: :rotfl: DH watched me tip one of those riding scooters that, how do I put this nicely, older people use to get around. It belongs to my Mom. He'd just warned me not to do exactly what I did. Did he come to my rescue? Nooooo. My nephew, God bless him did.

Laurie: I'd thought about it--shoes being tied too tight. I'll have to see what happens this weekend for my 70 min run

Mel: great run! You've gotta be psyched.

Jackie: sooooo, used the TM yet?

Angie: call me lazy, but I run 3 times a week and bike or use the eliptical (sometimes the stairmaster) 3 other times a week. My runs consist of one LR on the weekend, speed work (now up to 30 min) once a week and usually some kind of running with my trainer. I just can't muster the energy for more than that. Oh yeah, I try for weight training 2 times a week. I always get at least one in. The tricky part is getting the second one in.

Matt: looking gooooooood!!

My trainer has new toys. Kettle balls. So in addition to running on a 3% grade at 6.1 miles per hour, I got to use those! Oh yeah, I'm not going to be able to move tomorrow!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Okay, here's my 2 cents!
Monica -- your post had me :lmao:
Jen -- I've done that on the exercise ball. Sorry I didn't warn you, sweetie! :rotfl:
Krista -- you are a bad influence ;) I just booked Chicago Hilton . Wait until Howard hears I'm not even budget shopping. Usually it takes me hours and hours of researching, checking codes, checking coupons; poring over my entertainment book. But then I heard you guys are staying at the official hotel (notice I didn't say "IF you go") AND the expo is there and certainly my favorite penguin will be there (yes, I have learned a lot from Krisiti about stalking), so I just went ahead and booked it.

Judy -- I agree about our WISH guys being total foxes!! :woohoo:

I guess having Chicago to look forward to will keep me from overindulging in food or "Welcome Aboard" drinks on our Disney cruise in late July! :)

Cam & Krista - you guys are going to start making people think very bad things about me! :scared1: I mean, I am just a fan. A really big fan. Well, and I do have permission from Chad to have Johnny Goo as my "celebrity pass"... :rotfl:

You guys are also making me want to get that penguin medal!
And we so can't do it this year! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

5 miles on deck this afternoon.
Hopefully my shins/calves are feeling better than they were on Tuesday's 5 miler.

And yes, Judy - we do have quite the men around these parts, don't we?

:charac2: :charac2: :charac2: :charac2: :charac2: :charac2:

Oh man...everybody's going to Chicago except me. :bored:

Well you guys, I just booked AKL for the marathon. This will be our first stay at a deluxe resort ever, and since I figured we would be spending less time in the parks, potentially more time in the hotel, this may be the time it is worth it. And my mom is super keen on the idea of having animals roving around nearby.

The only thing that concerns me is construction of the AKV. I'm not sure if it is enough to convince us to change resorts or not. Does anyone know anything about it?

Tonight is another 2 miler planned for me. Thankfully it is sunny and 48 deg out. Should be a good day for running!

Oh Cam, Pat, Krista, Steve, Carrie, Mel and who ever is doing CDC...

I made a room ressie at the Hilton. I gasped at the cost of parking tho.... $40 a NIGHT!! I will be checking out other parking complexes to see what else I can find. So I set with a room JUST IN CASE! I love that the expo is there and also that I can walk to the start and leave my family in the room.

Krista - I promise to post more recipes for you!

:charac2: :charac2: :charac2: :charac2: :charac2: :charac2:

Oh man...everybody's going to Chicago except me. :bored:

And me!!!!!:sad1: And we would even have a free place to stay. DH is being this way about the CDC:snooty: He wants to have a "full" under his belt before Disney. That way he won't be so freaked out at Disney b/c it won't be his first. So, Chicago a no go for us!!! Boo Hoo!!!
