Wk of June 24--WISH Walking/Running Club

Quick post, gotta leave for work early, have to stop at DS's school and pick up grad tickets.:woohoo:

Colleen where are you heading in Canada??? I am about a hour north of Toronto.

I got in my 3K last night but did the TM, just way to hot, humid and smoggy to get outside.

Cam: I am following your lead and doing crunches everynight. I got 30 done last night, and hope to increase that every so many nights.

OK, gotta get off DIS....Kim walk away from the computer......

Have a good one all.

Good morning WISH Team. How is everyone today? Got the smile going?

Ok do you think wearing my flourecent yellow/green WISH shirt will attract enough attention at the games? I could walk nude and be sure to get the media attention, might even make cable news. It would proibably be depressing with all the people pointing and laughing.

I'm off to do an easy 4 miler this morning. Can't push the pace this week must taper, must taper, must taper.

Tiger Lily forgive me for yesterday. I promise to be good today.

Have a good day guys, remember you mean the world to someone.

Dave:hippie:

Here's another running story I just found and thought you guys might be interested in.

DELTONA, Fla. -- A woman who went on a jog with her two dogs Monday night attempted to shoot a pit bull because she felt threatened, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

According to sheriff's deputies, Christine Bruce was jogging past 1435 Gainesville Drive in Deltona when she observed a pit bull in the front yard. Bruce told officials that the dog's owner, Rickey Ward, was exciting the animal in such a way that she felt like she was going to be attacked.

Bruce, who was attacked by a pit bull three years ago, said she asked Ward to stop, but Ward released the pit bull and told it to attack her, according to a sheriff's report.

"If it happens to you once, you'll never forget it. I wasn't going to let that happen to me again," Bruce said in reference to the prior attack. "Large dogs are a leathal weapon. If they're unleashed on you, you've got to treat them as such."

Bruce, who was carrying a baseball bat, mace and a gun, shot at the dog but missed, and the pit bull retreated, the report stated.

"(My dog) didn't get but 100 feet from the woman. The woman wasn't in any danger, and I stand by that," Ward said. "My dog started darting off, and I said, 'Cleo, stop!' and she stopped. I got the leash and carried her back."

"Had I not shot at the dog, he wouldn't have stopped," Bruce said.

Sheriff's officials said Bruce went to the nearest fire station and called 911. She does have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, officials told Local 6 News.

Deputies responded to Ward's home and said the pit bull acted aggressively toward them. Ward was ordered to keep the dog on a leash.

The incident has been referred to Animal Control for review, the sheriff's report stated.

Neither Ward nor Bruce were charged in the incident.

What kind of jerk releases his dog to attack someone, wether he has intentions of telling the dog to stop or not?!

Dana

Okay, good, looks like the snake pics are behind us!

Dana--wow, what a story--I am always afraid of being attacked by a dog! But can you imagine running with a bat, mace and a gun--I thought an iPod and Garmin were a lot to carry!;)

Christa--I sure hope the tests come back conclusive!

Cam--great job on the bike!

DaveSW--great job on the SWOG, hope you had a nice run this am

Bill--a snake, is a snake, is a snake for me! There is no such thing as a safe snake! But thanks for not quoting the pic--you've moved up the ladder in my book!

DaveWW--definitley think you will be noticed in your Lime green! I would definitley go for the Lime green over the bday suit!:rotfl:

Robert--You're in Tahoe aren't you??? Are you safe from the wild fire????

Okay, better go! I need to get tot he gym relatively early today--I picked up a shift today at work, so need to get going! Have a great day all!

I agree Stephanie, I got enough to carry. ipod, water, cell phone....

Dana, wow what a story, why would someone do that??? I think what really freaks me out is that someone feels they need to carry a gun to go on a run:scared1:

Kim

I can't believe I missed all the fun yesterday!!!!! We'll have to have even more fun today to make up for it. ;) I got my 3 miles in last night, I had to do them in stages, the first 2 miles on the TM at the gym and then I had to leave to meet Stephen to have papers notarized. I went straight home and did the 3rd mile on my TM. The run was okay, boring, but what do you expect on a TM?? I need new shoes bad, my calves are killing me. I can't wait until Saturday to get new ones.

Dana--Who in the heck runs with a gun??? That's crazy!!

Christa--:wizard: for your daughter!!!! I hope the doctor's can figure something out. Have a wonderful time in Hilton Head!!

WW Dave--You?? Behave?? Yeah, right! ;)

FL Bill--I can't imagine Lynnda is pleased with your decision to keep snakes in your yard! Right now we have the cutest little frog that lives on our patio. I'm trying to catch it so I can release it in a creek, but no luck yet.

Leana--I love your dogs!!! They are so little compared to my beast! Hines' new thing is drinking out of the toilet, I have no idea how he came up with that idea as it's a fairly new thing for him. Great run last night! You are like a machine! Have fun at Momma Mia, that sounds awesome!

Mel--I prefer the lr too. You just go out, clear your mind and go for an hour or two. In fact almost every Friday night I dream about running, I guess in preparation for Saturday's distance.

Cam--Great job on the bike!!! I've started to develop my calf muscles from riding and lifting, I'm so excited. I've been wearing skirts and heels a lot lately to showcase all of my hardwork!

Colleen--Have a wonderful time in Canada!! I'm sure you'll be able to keep up with your MCM training.

OT, did anyone happen to watch Shaq's television show last night? Where he picked out 6 morbidly obese children and he is helping them to lose weight. I was so proud of them for working so hard, but it made me sad at the same time. I don't understand how a child can weigh almost 300 lbs or have 50% body fat. It made me extremely thankful that I'm in shape and healthy and yeah I'd like to lose 5 lbs, but honestly I don't need to. Sorry to go off on this again, but I am very passionate about children being healthy.

Okay, everyone have a wonderful day and happy training!!

Dear Lord--you people have me laughing out loud!! With all the snake pictures appearing and disappearing, I nearly spewed my yogurt all over the computer screen! :lmao:

DH, Calcio, left at 4:30 this morning. He hopes to make it to the other side of Chicago but avoid the Chicago rush hour traffic. He did leave earlier than planned but I wasn't surprised. I'll keep you all posted on his progress. He should make CO by late tomorrow evening.

Leana: LOVE the pooch pictures! I've always thought Westies and Scotties were quite sophisticated dogs. Leadville is 10,000 feet above sea level. Mosquito Pass (the turn-around point) is 13,186 (ish) feet. Oughtta be a good one!

Judy: I concur on the foot surgery. Do it now. It's better than waiting. Is it possible for you to do some non-weight bearing exercises? Can you ride a bike using just the good foot to pedal? I know it sounds funny, but my trainer did that when she broke her leg. She pedalled with one foot.

Dana: kudos for pushing that stroller with, not one, but two kids in it!! I'm happy to hear DS had a good run. Re: snakes: :scared1: And you live in Florida because............???

Tricia: I can totally understand sprinting up to the end of the run just to get to the pool! I sure wish I had one of those at the end of my runs!

Dave: I do hope the kittens are a lot of fun! When we adopted ours when each older kitty died, they added such life to our house and fun! The youngest one, 9 months now, is still a kitten at heart and still keeps us in stitches. The older one is quite the elegant diva, but she will do things that make me crack up!!

Cam: I read the part about the wonderful DHs and then saw all the evil snake picture re-posts and am seriously reconsidering that! LOL

Christa: I hope the allergy tests will pinpoint the problem. Thing about allergies is, at least with me, they change over time so what worked before doesn't work several years later. And nothing like a little thunder and lightening to give you negative splits!!

Dave/Vic/nepatsfan: mean, mean, mean!! For shame!!! As I mentioned, I need to rethink my position on some of the guys on the WISH team. You need to redeem yourselves, big time!

OK, I really, really, really, need to get to work. I've slacked off long enough. Talk to you all later!

What's that therapy called when you are forced to face your fears?

I think I am less afraid of snakes now:scared:

I'd ask Mel to put a ban on snakes on the thread but she is one of the culprits!

Sunny

Two dogs, a baseball bat, mace and a gun.....who carries all of that? I know when I'm out with my two kids, there is no carrying anything else! Not so smart on the pitbull owner's part either though!

I got my New Balance skirts in the mail yesterday. I'll let you ladies know when I try them out. I'm not sure that I'm going to like it as much as the skirt sports ones though. I got a lime green one, and I think it matches pretty well!

Love the snake photos and just to be nice to Cam and others, I won't quote that message. With all the other guys slipping in the popularity rankings, I have to make my sly move to get to the top of the pack. :lmao:
Bill

Bill -- I knew I  you!

Colleen - Have an awesome trip, sweetie!

Hey, has anyone seen Sara lately? Sara, we miss you!

Cam: I am following your lead and doing crunches everynight. I got 30 done last night, and hope to increase that every so many nights.

Great job on the crunches, Kim! I am following Maria's (worfiedoodles) lead now and doing them in the morning whenever possible. It makes me feel so good to know they are done at the beginning of the day. And I am more likely to do other exercises at night if the crunches & push-ups are out of the way. It is fascinating to me that I can literally see the change in my upper arms and my midriff from nearly 2 months of efforts -- all it took was seeing the horrid Minnie weekend pix  to have me challenge myself starting 5/8! ;)

I can't believe I missed all the fun yesterday!!!!! We'll have to have even more fun today to make up for it. ;)

. . . . .

Cam--Great job on the bike!!! I've started to develop my calf muscles from riding and lifting, I'm so excited. I've been wearing skirts and heels a lot lately to showcase all of my hardwork!

Krista -- please DON'T give these guys any ideas. I did not find all those snake pix to be any fun and almost gave up on the thread for the week. :lmao:

Congrats on the great calf muscles. I have to tell you a funny story. Outside the back door of my building the bottom of the wall is silver/chrome and from the waist up it is windows. The other night, I was dressed for the gym and walked out the back door. As I was walking to the corner, I caught the reflection of my legs -- I actually stopped to look. I have always had very large, fat, legs with no ankle shape at all and from the front, my calves protruded so much beyond my knees. :sad1: And yet, there they were -- lower legs with a profile to be proud of! Okay, you are all probably thinking I am so conceited. I swear I'm not! I am just amazed. I am having such a struggle with the scale and just when I feel like all my working out and conscientious eating is for naught, I realize my midriff doesn't stick out like a beer belly and my legs actually have a shape that makes me less embarassed to wear skirts or shorts in public. I think it is like Lily said, even if the pounds don't come off, there is some "rearranging" going on that makes us look better.

Krista
I did watch that show last night, it was so sad, I had tears in my eyes throughout. I am so thankful my kids are fit, although DS plays way to many video games,he is quite active and DD never stops. I can't wait to continue to watch I hope they all are successful

Cam: WAHOOOOOOOOOO, great for you. Don't pay any attention to that scale, you are losing inches and gaining muscle. I know that is easier said then done as I weight myself daily.

Ok Dave behaving and being good today.:rolleyes1

I did my 4 mile hill route slow and easy, taper, taper, taper, (Think Animal House, Toga, Toga, Toga). Total time 53:12.

Then I came home after stopping at the market and had grilled chicken breasts and steamed veggies for lunch. It's a good thing the kittens don't know yet that they like chicken.

So how come I have a reputation for causing chaos already. It wasn't me really it was that mischevious Vic and rowdy Bill. I was just an innocent victim.

Have a great day WISH Team.

Dave:hippie:

You are all bad....very bad:thumbsup2 That's what makes you all so much fun:lmao:

I just booked my ingoing flight to MCO for Marathon weekend. Anyone who is flying SW before Jan 11th can book now.!!!!!!!

Yipeeeeeee

Dana, interesting story. Just this morning I had this lady walking her two dogs let one of them start jumping up on me and chasing me as I was running. She puts them on those really, really long retractable leashes and I see her every time I go out. This morning we were coming at each other on a small strip and I had to run off the sidewalk, across the grass and into the street and the dog still came at me. You would think by now she would know to pull her leash in shorter!

Got a three mile in this morning. Pace a bit better! Monday it was 12:45, today it was 11:42. I hope I can get back into the 11 minute paces! My foot was still sore, so I came home and took everyone's advice and iced it.

Hope everyone has a great day today! (With NO snakes! )

Warning - Drive-by post:

I got my run in this morning, and it was pretty good. I did 8:01 miles in 1:14.17 min/9:16 mpm pace. The first 4 miles felt pretty easy, and then I was having some trouble with my iPOD, I was getting hot, etc. the last 4 miles. Those seemed tougher. The first 4 miles I was averaging just under 9 mpm pace, but then I slowed down the last 4 miles. It felt good to get the run in before it got too hot though.

I logged on last night to check something out and started reading this thread and I was cracking up. :lmao: You guys are so mean with the snake pics! My poor Cam! They don't bother me at all, I actually think it was pretty cool looking too. I had a snake when I was younger, but I don't have any pictures. Which I know is OK by many of you. Living in the middle of the woods now I'm amazed we haven't seen any snakes, but I guess we have too many hawks.

Anyway, I did 3 miles on the TM this morning. There are some things I won't share with people IRL but I'll tell you guys. It is SO humid here I had to peel off my sports bra and compression shorts when I was done. It was disgusting. But I did intervals of 10 min walking and 5 min of running three times. I might add that I did those 5 min intervals of running at 5.0, which is a 12 min pace. :thumbsup2

Erica - We need some pictures of your new fur babies now that they are home and learning to type. :goodvibes

Leana - Adorable pups! :cutie:

Christa - I hope they figure out what DD is allergic too. The worst is not knowing. :wizard:

Dana - You know, if I had to run with a bat, mace and gun, I think I'd find another route. :scared:

Martha - :wizard: for the anti-Jimmy Buffet that he has a safe trip. Yes I am already planning the XT I will do with one foot in a surgical shoe. I think I can ride the stationary bike but I can also work on strength training and stretches, both of which I need to do.

Cam - I don't think you're conceited at all! And having recently seen your legs I concur and say that I think they are very cute. ;)

Hi everyone - got my 2 miles in today - still having tightness in my calves, mainly my left calf as that is my bad foot. I am just upset that my times aren't what they were last year when I first started running - but then again it has been a year since I last ran (even though I only ran for a few months then) Almost bought a wobble board (I think that is what it was called) yesterday but wasn't sure if it would help - does anyone have experience with one of those?

I definately can not imagine carrying a bat, mace, a gun and two dogs on a run - its hard enough with the MP3 player and my cell phone and an occasional bottle of water. But to even need to carry all of that for protection she needs to run in a different area or at a different time of day!!

Cam - congrats on the muscle definition - that is always great motivation to keep working at it. And in no way do I think you are concieted for that. I actually am amazed at the difference I am able to tell in just 3 weeks of running again. And I think I need to take a hint from you and start working on those crunches - I really hate crunches though!! Keep up the good work.

I will be good today, I will be good today, I will be good today.:rolleyes1

Oh the heck with it.:yay:

The latest news flash!!! Researchers are making a move on Big Vic. Is he just a legend or is he the real deal?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19443010/?GT1=10056

Hey I'm tring to be good ok!:confused3

Dave:hippie:

My christmas present to you, WWDave. ;) :rotfl2:

**Colleen**Thank you for the info on ALLI-MAN's alter ego/secret identity. I guess that would make ALLI-MAN a Canadian super hero, eh? How aboot he have the famous Canadia tag phrase:

Fast like speed!
Smart like street car!
Tough like hockey puck!

[Canadian Disclaimer: all Canadia WISHers, please know I love Canada and Canadians. Who can't love the home of, among other things, 5.8% alcohol content beer, the Calgary Stampede and grown men going out on ponds when its 30 below 0 (Fahrenheit) and shooting a frozen, hard rubber puck at each other.]

**Christa** Best of luck with the tests for your daughter. I rememeber my brother having the full scale tests done many moons ago. Turns out he was allergic to almost everything, including doing yard work, helping to clean our room and studying.

I can also tell you have kids because you noted that the snake photos were low, but was unphased by the dirty underwear WWDave seems obsessed with.

**Dana** Interesting story about the jogger v.the dog. The big question I have though is summer running in Florida (I'm picturing disgusting heat and humidity and probably not too many layers of running clothes), where does she "conceal" the weapon?

**WWDave** I will let you ride for now and blame it on taper madness. (Whatever that is.People considered us wrestlers to be sufferring from madness all the time.) I warn you though. If you keep it up, not only will I tell my Mommy, I'm also picturing you as that little bunny at the dog track and I'll be the Norwegian Wolfhound chasing you for lunch. ;) I need some kind of mental image to make sure I stay ahead of the sweeper.

**nepatsBill** Oh, that's me. As far as my recent traing goes, well that is funny.
