Wk of June 24--WISH Walking/Running Club

Dana...I can't quite see your little guy's tail in his photo, but he could also be one of these...eastern hognose. It's camouflage is to look like a pygmy rattler. It also has a hood that it can flatten like a cobra. They are non-venomous...I can vouch for that having been bitten by the one my dad had when I was a kid.

Carrie...no good answer for your aspirin theory. I did find some old animal studies Dave can probably interpret about using aspirin to prevent effects of heatstroke. I would generally assume it's not going to make you anymore heat tolerant than our snowbirds who take an aspirin a day for cardiovascular health. Maybe you're just my polar opposite...you can be Cold Miser and I'll be Heat Miser ;)

Tricia...you're on the list! Welcome!

Thanks to everyone for your input/advice on my pacing question. I think I'm like Krista...only one speed. Definitely want to try some tempo work again when my foot's better. I really think it was helping. I think I'm also like Carrie...I prefer the LR. The short run tends to be something I squeeze in between work and making dinner or after WT goes to bed.

Please, please, please no more snake pictures!!!!!

Kim here's wishing your DS a very happy graduation. My DD graduated high school 2 yrs ago.

Vic & Bill I really love your pic!!:rotfl2:

Thanks for the PD. My headache is gone!!

Erica:)

I'm ignoring the snake (with high hopes it'll go away!!)

I got in 2 miles tonight, no running, stuck w/walking, as it was still 86 when I went out!!

Felt good after, felt even better after a cool shower! Guess I'm gonna have to start getting up and going before work...I think I can, I think I can (eh, but I'm not so much a morning person...)

Have a great night all...

Dana - Too funny about the deer! :lmao: When I stopped for the first deer I really was thinking about the fact that they usually travel in pairs (at least) and that there was probably another one in the woods. I was really cautious when I ran by in case one did jump out in front of me!

Leana - LOVE your babies! They're welcome at my house anytime (just don't tell mine!)

DH and I just ran 3 miles. I'm not going to bother posting times, cause there's nothing to brag about! We finished - it was 90 degrees and humid, and both of us about died, but we got the miles in. (I won't mention that I wanted to run last night, when it wasn't as hot or humid, but DH wanted to wait till tonight... normally we don't run together, but I'm trying to be nice and see if we can do this sport together!)

Jackie

To everyone who is bothered by the snake pictures. I am so sorry... I really should have thought about that before I posted it.

Chimera - I thought it might have been too, but all of the pictures that I have looked at have truly made me believe it was the pygmy rattlesnake. Especiallly with the markings on the back of the head. The orangeish strip.

You guys have definately given me a good laugh this evening. Thanks.

Dana

Hey, maybe we could get Stan Lee interested in this now that he has signed on with Disney. Big Vic, as my faithful companion and side-kick, we'll have to come up with a good name for you too.

(I have been designated the Super Hero on the right, correct Vic.)

I always tell my wife there is no need to worry about my underwear, as I can just turn them inside out and use the clean side. I guess WWDave's photo supports my wife's eye rolling, shaking the head response.

I just hope you guys are done picking on the big-boned, follically-challenged rookie. (Although at least my super hero hat/mask will keep my scalp from getting sunburnt.)

The foregoing (as poor as it might be) was merely an attempt at humor.]

You know underwear are good for 4 days.

Rightside out, inside out. Turn them around and repeat the process.

Works for me. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Snakes...WOW we have hit an all time low...:goodvibes

Anyway...I am reporting on DD real quick!
Took her to the Dr and she did great (for her). I totally bribed her with a mermaid toy from Target. Anyway....
Talked to the dr and he said we needed to figure out what she is reactiing to. B/c it is getting worse and he doesn't want it to get where she cannot breath. So I had to take her to the lab and get 2 viles of blood drawn. She cried, but let them do it...she totally watched the whole thing. They are testing for normal food allergies, Mold, dust, grass...ect and bananas. Yes bananas. THat is one thing that I think is causing the attacks. So keep fingers crossed they find something b/c the next step is the back test where they have to scratch areas....

After my clients tomorrow we are heading to HH for Thurs and Fri...real quick trip but I am excited and taking my bike!

Leana...Your furbabies are adorable!!!! So is your furbaby niece!!!

Rest day for me this day. Sorry for mistyped words and such as my new furbabies are enjoying jumjping on the keyboard!!!

Good thing I am not scared of snakes. We have seen plenty of that snake today!! I don't have a free hand to take my camera with me when I go on my runs but since my route is by the Intracostal Waterway there are tons of crabs and this morning I saw the biggest crab (of that kind of anyway!!) They usually run into their holes though when they see you. Also the last 2 times I went running that route I saw the cutest kitty - actually she is on my street (see my title as Princess of natures smallest treasures is true!!) this kitty remembered me from the last time I saw her - she came running to me - I am just afraid she is going to get hit in the road since she likes to roll in the street. Planning on getting in another 2 miles tomorrow morning. I have to do it early or else it won't get done as it is hot and humid here.

Christa -- I hope these tests show conclusively what DD is allergic to. Until then, I hope you'll keep her away from bananas. I thought of you and Kevin and Christa and Stephen and Melissa tonight when I was doing 60 minutes of "hill plus" on the stationary bike at level 3. I couldn't wimp out because I know you guys do real hills on real bikes and if you let up, you'd roll back down the hill backwards! :lmao: Have a great time in Hilton Head, sweetie! If you get to Magic Mushroom have a piece of pizza for me!

Have a good night y'all. Today was fun. I hope Tiger Lily doesn't throw us all off the boards.

Dave

Hi guys! Just wanted to post about my 5 mile run tonight. I finished in 56:28 for an 11:17/mi pace. I took the first mile fairly slow, but I had a couple of speedy miles to finish up. It felt great! Thursday I have another 5 miler scheduled, but I'm going to see Mamma Mia in the evening. I may try to get in a hill workout over lunch since I'm pretty close to McHugh Bluffs.

Question for you guys though.....my training program doesn't really taper, just next week is reduced mileage since my half is next Sunday. Should I really be doing a hill workout just over a week before the half?

I heard back from the yoga studio after my yoga for runners workshop was canceled. They are going to call to discuss my options for a refund, but they asked if I would be interested in a discounted summer sizzler package. That is an unlimited drop in pass until Sept 2. Hmmm, I may be tempted...we shall see! I'm pretty busy between bikini boot camp and starting training for the full, but I think it would be great to get in one yoga session a week, so we'll see what they offer me!

Bill, Dude, I promise I won't tell anyone about your breathalizer test. Your secret is safe with me.

OMG, that guy is Canadian, I am so embarrassed! Stettler is a town in Alberta, Leana's home province.

Speaking of Canada, we are heading up for next Tuesday for 3 weeks to visit the relatives, enjoy some home cookin', and do the 'lake' thing. I hope my I can continue my MCM training while up there.:confused3

For training, I was able to get 8 miles in Monday, 45 minutes on the ellipical Tuesday and if I ever get to sleep tonight (mental note to self, don't take the kids out for lunch and order of large diet coke, I am still buzzed.) I will do some speedwork on Wednesday.

Promise I will catch up with everyone tomorrow.

Colleen

Good Morning TEAM:

30 min x-training SWOG (deep water run) yesterday, and now I'm gearing up for an early morning run today.

Christa- You just reminded me that my sister was allergic to the banana peels. Not the actual banana themselves, but she couldn't touch the peels or she would have a huge allergic reaction. We thought it was something they might have sprayed them with.

Love the snake photos and just to be nice to Cam and others, I won't quote that message. With all the other guys slipping in the popularity rankings, I have to make my sly move to get to the top of the pack. :lmao:

I make sure we keep a couple of black racers in our yard as they tend to keep out all the other types of snakes. Lynnda is definately not happy with this decision, but will concede that they are the most harmless of the types I have seen around here. Although her lack of support may be because I catch them sometimes and let Billy pet or look at them. :rolleyes1 I guess that Timmy should have the fun of petting them as well. ;)

No training yesterday since it was a rest day. Tomorrows run may be moved up to today because of the chance of rain for the next two days. This probably just means we will have clouds and no wet stuff.

Have a great day everyone and great jobs on all the training runs that got lost in all the discussions of snakes and spiders. ;) Christa, hope the tests are able to determine something that is causing the problems.

Bill
