Wk of June 24--WISH Walking/Running Club

Cindy -- I always check to be sure there are seats on my flight at the DING rate and then I cancel the first reservation and the funds go into a ticketless travel fund which I use to book the DING fare. The nice thing about the SWA site is it applies non-refundable funds to the new ticket first before using any of the refundable portion.

Tonight's workout--
5 minutes warmup at 4.0 mph -- .33 miles
45 minutes of r2(5.0mph)/w3(4.2mph) -- 3.39 miles (overall pace this portion 13:17)
10 minutes cooldown at 4.0 mph -- .67 miles

Total miles 4.39 in 60 minutes (overall pace for entire workout 13:40)
Calories burned (~ 90 + 453 = 543)

No SW does not charge a cancellation fee. If the price just goes down on a regular sale you just go in to change reservation and rebook the same flight but it will pick up the lower price. I have always been able to get a credit card refund but since we all have our return flights to book...ya unfortunatley we all have to go home. I was just going to use the credit for that flight.

If it comes through as a DING you have to cancell and rebook but again no cancellation fees.

Hi folks, just finished an upper body weight workout. I worked those arms hard!!! It felt great.

I got a call back from the yoga studio and they are offering me a "summer sizzler" package for half off - $80. I guess they didn't have my confirmation that I signed up for the yoga for runners workshop, and that was why I didn't hear that it was canceled. The summer sizzler entitles me to unlimited yoga until Sept 2. Considering drop in sessions are $17 I think that is a pretty good deal. It looks like I'll be trying to fit in yoga once a week from now on! Between running on Mondays and Wednesday, bikini boot camp on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I'll probably aim for an early run on Saturday, then a yoga class afterwards. It is going to be busy.... Here's hoping this helps me on my road to super buffness! (haha!)

Hey all you groovy chicks and cats. Hoping your Wednesday was wonderful.

Two training days to report this week.

Monday - 2.5 miles on the TM.
Today - 2.75 miles on the TM.

Still experimenting with shoes and insoles. One day I just may find that perfect combination.

I just wanted to add, if I upset anyone with my posts yesterday or today, I sincerely apologize.

Y'all take care.

;) :)

OMG:scared1: :scared1:

The first thing I did was check and see where that snake lived, because I sure don't want it anywhere near where I live! As much as I love WDW I definitely could never live in FL....snakes, gators, huge spiders, bugs big enough to carry off small children....no thank you!!

Glad you could handle it so calmly though.
My thoughts exactly! You are all so in trouble with those pics...:scared1:

I'm on my way to sleep. I've finally read all that has been going on this week. Whew! It tires me out for sure. I guess that is how I am getting in the training. Still having trouble kick starting my steps. WISHing all good days and good behavior!

Good night all...

good evening all! Didn't work out today, but I did work:cheer2: So far the job is still totally fun!! I like the idea of a WISH team bike!! I'll have to start looking around for a bike that comes in lime green!

I did get to ride yesterday. Phil and I were going to ride from home to a restaurant across town and eat and then ride back. About 1/2 way there, it started pouring!! We ended up bailing and riding back home. We look like the biggest idiots riding in that storm!!

I'm supposed to go to a tri training tomorrow to meet my friend (EC), but it will probably rain. We basically run the whole course for a short dist tri that she is putting on to raise$ for her kids' swim team. Blech!! I'm feeling ppretty lazy tonight!

Krista - When the work out w/ baby time comes, drop me a line. You know I'm the queen of "how to tow a kide!"

Dave - WOW!! I didn't realize your goal was for a sub 4 hrs!! That is really cool. That is way out of my league.

Dana - I thought the pics were cool! And I thought it quite fitting that you photographed the discovery as you are no doubt a shutter bug!!

Christa - have a great time w/ your bike in HH!!! I drive phil crazy by asking to drive on vacation instead of fly so I can bring my bike along. Now he drives a hybrid gas/electric mariner, so it really bothers him to mess up the good gas mileage by having the bike on top! (speaking of traveling w/ bike, I thinkthe mean girls 1/2 IM is going to be in sept)
I hope your little one is ok.

Stephanie - I'll let you know when we pick a date for that tri too, so you can get your road bike b/4 then!!

Sunny - I'm so sorry to hear about everything that has been going on w/ you. You are in my prayers.

Geez, you guys been chatty again today. Good thing I don't work full-time, or even really part-time, b/c the lack of Dis access at work would kill me.

I did get 4 miles in at the gym, 8:50ish pace; also did a little arm weight work And then I ate my weight in Dots gummies and turtle chex mix at work--sort of evens out I think! Now it's off to bed with me! I have to be up early in the morning to babysit--I've been out of the workforce too long--late nights and early mornings=crabby mommy!

Good morning WISH Team. I will be leaving for Louisville tomorrow so the butterflies and alive and well. I will do a short workout on the treadmill this morning with a few 200m sprints and some easy walking. My legs are starting to feel rested which is the goal of tapering.

I have been a little rowdy this week, but it was taper madness since I'm normally not rowdy at all.

For anyone who is just starting on their journey to fitness and to those who are are fighting their way back after life beat them up. Remember there is way more about you than you will ever know. It's when things get rough that we grow in strength of spirit.

Kristen Armstrong, Lance's ex, has an excellent article in the new Runner's World Magazine. She talks about how a fit strong woman is the most beautiful. We get to hung up on the weight and forget the woman. I thought it was very good and worth reading.

Have a great day y'all, I'm off to the gym.

Dave:hippie:

Dave-in case I don't have a chance to write later, GOOD LUCK. Make sure you enjoy the experience. That includes the butterflies too. Just think how much lighter you'll be with them helping you out.

Also, the taper madness was fun. Can't wait to see what the weekly threads look like come late December/early January when lots of people are tapering. I intentionally do not plan to look at past WDW marathon taper week threads so I can enjoy the anticipated "Shock and Awe."

I had a terrible training session last night. I'm fighting a sinus infection and haven't run since Saturday. I was supposed to do the same training as Cam last night, but about 1/2 way through I developed terrible side stiches and ended up walking the last 20 minutes at a pretty slow pace. I'm going to count it as a XT night and make another attempt tonight.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

No running since my 8 miler yesterday morning. I'm going to try to run after work today before going to pick up the princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess: at camp. Tonight is a family open house. They're having a cookout at the daycamp the kids are going to. Yahoo!

Dave - WOW!! I didn't realize your goal was for a sub 4 hrs!! That is really cool. That is way out of my league.
Hi Melissa - Good to hear from you. Yeah, I'd like to go sub 4 hours for the marathon, but that may be a bit ambitious. We'll see. It's good to have a goal, right?

Dave- Good luck at the games this weekend. I can't wait to hear about them.

Ok, I need to get to work, but I'm sure I'll be back later.

Thank you Bill, I'll try not to have a DLF even though the WISH Racing Team shirt I'll be wearing says it's ok. I'd rather be able to say I was in the top 10 racewalkers over 50 in the nation. (Dream on right)

I did a nice easy workout on the treadmill this morning with a good warm-up, followed by 2 X 200m at 10mpm pace then a gradual cool-down for a total of 2 miles. Then some easy calistetics, pool walking and a good stretch in the hot whirlpool.

Tomorrow after we arrive and get checked in and signed up for the events, Erica and I can take a nice stroll in the moon light. Then Saturday I should be as ready as I'll get for the first race.

Dave:hippie:

No running for me this AM - since I have a 5k on Saturday AM I don't want to push myself too much. I am going to try and get some XT in today but not sure if I will be able to since its raining outside (we are getting a tropical wave - nothing bad just lots of light rain) and my XT is either biking or swimming. I did get a wobble board and let me tell you its not easy to balance on - I still have to hold on. But I think it will help me build up my leg muscles and am able to do a good stretch of the calf with it.

Meghan sorry you aren't feeling well hopefully today you will be able to get in that run.

Dave & Erica have fun this weekend and enjoy yourselves.

Yesterday was my 6 Year Anniversary of Running. It was June 27, 2001 that I ran my first 5K ever. My time was 34:42 for an 11:10 pace.

I've completed 30 5K races since then. :yay: :cheer2:

I walked 3 miles this morning. Too hot and humid to push it and I am still experiencing soreness from the shin splints.

Happy training!

:grouphug:

Howard

Meghan - Sorry to hear about your run last night. I hope tonight is better for you. Feel better soon!

WWDave - Good luck this weekend!!!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Dave- Good luck at the games this weekend. I can't wait to hear about them.

SWDave, thanks for the good wishes I'll need them.

I just went to the 2007 Senior Olympics web site and they have the athletes listed. In my age group 7 of the top 10 2005 athletes are competing again and 2 current world record holders, OH goody!

Maybe they will all have an off day, I wonder if I could throw a party and get them all drunk the night before. (Where is Tonya Harding when you need her).

Dave:hippie:

Melissa -- It is so nice to see you here! Glad to hear all is going well with your job.

Dave & Erica -- Have a great trip! Good luck, Dave! Sending you speedy vibes!!! :cool1:

Meghan -- Sorry you had a rough workout last night. I have to tell you I thought of you a lot during my TM workout. I was such a stinky, sweaty mess and I took some perverse pleasure in knowing my WISH teammates were also pushing the limits. I think it is very impressive that you spent that long on the TM, considering that I know how painful sinus infections are. Take it easy today and don't push it to do another TM workout tonight. I think the purpose of XT is not to use the same muscles that we do to walk/run and to not put the same kinds of strain on our joints, etc. So, I think your session last night really was a mid-week WOG and you can do a different XT session today or whenever you are up to it. I think it is John Bingham who wrote that you shouldn't try to make up a missed run, that you should stick to the training schedule and just do whatever is next up. Sending you pixiedust: and :goodvibes that you are feeling better!

Good morning TEAM, we're one day closer to the weekend! I wish the 4th of July was on a Friday or Monday, I need a 3 day weekend instead of working 2 days, off 1 day and then working 2 more days. The run last night sucked, my calves were killing me, I can't wait to get new running shoes tomorrow night. I did 3 miles in 33:50, so my pace is still in the 11:00's, I'd love to get back into the 10:00's, but with my IT band finally okay (knock on wood), I'm scared to start doing any type of speed work for the time being. I have 2 miles tonight, my week is short because I did my lr on Sunday and I need to do this week's lr on Saturday. Originally the week called for 3, 3, 3, 7, but I don't want to run the night before a lr and I don't want to skip the run entirely, so I'm comprising and doing 3, 3, 2, 7 and only losing a mile. I think I'm going to pop some Tylenol before I run so I can ignore the pain in my legs! :thumbsup2 (Disclaimer: I do NOT recommend running through pain or taking pain medication to mask the pain of a running injury. However, I know the pain I am experiencing is NOT from an injury, but is caused by having too many miles on my shoes. I am correcting this tomorrow night. End disclaimer.)

WW Dave--Good luck at the games!!! I'll be thinking about you.

Howard--Congrats on your anniversary!! My 2 year anniversary was May 23, 2005. Good decision on walking instead of running and giving your legs a rest!

Melissa--I'll definitely be calling when I need some help with creative exercising! I already told Stephen that we are spending top dollar on a GOOD running stroller, there are some things you can buy discount on, but that I'm not. Your job sounds like so much fun, I'd love to work in a placed that I LOVED every single minute of every single day. I always say once I "retire", I'm going part time at a running store.

Cam--Look at you!!!! Nice workout! By the way, I thought you looked awesome in January, you must be a complete knock out now! You flaunt those legs and be proud!! ;)

Meghan--Sorry your run last night was tough. :wizard: that today is better!

Leana--You are going to be rock solid!!! That yoga program sounds awesome, I was just telling Stephen that I'd love to get into a yoga class after lr's to get all stretched out and ready to face the next week.

Tricia--Good luck on your 5K! Oh, and send some that rain our way. It rained here last night, but of course the storm just circled at house and then went on it's way. A couple of miles away roads were flooding because it rained so fast and so hard, but my house got nothing!

SW Dave--The Open House sounds like fun! Eat something really bad for me. :)

NE Bill--Oh, you will love taper madness in December/January!! You'll get a little taste of it in September/October, several of us are running marathons in October and then the ToT 13K is in late October.

Vic--:wizard: that you find the perfect combo!!!!

I better get off here and actually work. Have a wonderful day everyone and happy training!!!

Morning team!!! No running to report this morning as I over slept and barely made it to work on time. I will do my run tonight. (Pray for a little rain to break this heat for me!) Last night it was so hard to sleep I pulled out my misting fan from my last Disney trip and kept spraying myself. My sister thought I was nuts but I think it's the only reason I got to sleep. My dad is still saying we're not putting the AC units in yet.

I'm not sure how many of you use the Nike+ but I have one and love it. Today I got this email regarding the Nike Woman's Marathon in October, they're going to have what they're calling "a sister race." Here's part of the email:

The Nike+ version is no ordinary half marathon. This one's on your home turf, on your own terms. Simply run 13.1 miles with the Nike+ on Oct. 21, log your results before the end of that day, and you'll be an official half-marathon finisher, regardless of when and where you ran. And finishing definitely has its privileges. When you cross the virtual finish line on nikeplus.com, you'll get a shiny new trophy in your trophy case and your screen name will be added to the Nike+ Half Marathon Wall. To commemorate your run and your contribution to a great cause, you'll also receive an Official Finisher Keychain designed by Tiffany & Co. and a Nike Sports Essentials Finisher's T-Shirt in gender-specific sizes.

Thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone was interested. If anyone is interested in this and hasn't got the email let me know and I'll forward it to you. I will definitely plan on doing this.

WWDave-Thanks for the bit about Kristen Armstrong I'll have to go pick that up and read it. But more importantly GOOD LUCK!!!! Oh and in regards to competing against the world record holders keep in mind these people were all under dogs... the 1980s US men's hockey team, James J. Braddock(who Russell Crowe later portrayed in a move), Tom Brady, David(Of David and Goliath fame), the Spartans over the Persians... the list goes on. And some good movies to watch for inspiration... Cinderella Man, Gladiator and Mystery Alaska. (Why did I list all Russell Crowe movies?) I used to watch Mystery Alaska before all my hockey games in college. Kick some butt!!!

Hmm, I'm already running a marathon that day, that would be awesome to get credit for a full and a half marathon on the same day in 2 different states! PM me the info please!!!

ETA--I just jumped on the website, you can only do this if you use the Nike+ program, tracking the run on their equipment. Nuts!!!!!
