Wk of June 17--WISH Walking/Running Club

Dave + Erica -

Leana - I hope I am one of your Boston buddies! ;) Keep me posted on your plans, ok? I have no idea about races in the area though.

I have been slacking again. I meant to get to the Y yesterday (really, I did!). But Zack was Mr. Pukey all day yesterday and I didn't feel I could leave the poor kiddo to hit the gym. If he is ok today, I will stick him in the Kidstop room at the Y and get to it though.

Morning team. Gonna try to get 4 miles in this am before heading to Target. Fun, Fun!

MaryKathryn--this is me also:surfweb: Just can't get moving this am--must be the fact that DD woke us up early this am!

WWDave--so sorry you had to put your dog down. Hugs to you all. Have fun with the new kitty

Jen-- over all the stress you've been under! Good for you for still getting the workout in

Diane--good job getting the steps in, even if you had to slow it down

Okay, so I'm really running slow this morning, can'tremember anything else I was going to post. HOpe everyone has a great Hump Day--need to go refill my coffee!

Good morning Wish Team!!! Happy Hump Day! My run yesterday was less than stellar again, I'm thinking I need new running shoes. For the past 2 or 3 runs I've pain in my knee (not my IT band knee, the other one) starting around mile 2.5 and yesterday my calves were both cramping. It looks like I'm headed to the Running Spot bright and early Saturday morning. I'm wondering if I need a more neutral shoe now that I'm wearing inserts to correct the over pronation. Regardless, I'm NOT getting another pair of New Balance, I'm ready to test drive some other brands. :)

Mary Kathryn--Have fun at Dairy Days!!!! Reading what you wrote was giving me visions of Napoleon Dynamite!

Howard--:sad2: :sad2: ;)

Cam--Good luck on your 5K tomorrow, I know you are going to do GREAT!!! :wizard:

Stephanie--Ooo, I love Target!!! I have a new obsession there, Diet Sobe Cherry Lime drink that they have in their little cafe. I may have to stop at Target tonight and get some as I'm craving it!

WW Dave--How did everyone do last night with all the new adjustments?

Jen--I hope you were able to get some sleep last night!

Martha--Good to know that I'm not the only klutz!!! ;) :)

Windwalker Dave--- Sorry to hear about your dog. I can so relate our dog Princess had been sick for several weeks before we went on vacation in May. The Friday before we left we decided that she was just getting worse and made the decision to put her to sleep. In fact we had her cremated and I just picked up the remains the other day. They had them in a nice container inside a velvet embroided bag with a lovely poem inside the bag that made me cry. We still have her sister "Blue" who is slowly adjusting to live without the other dog around.

marathonmommy-- I am a walker and I found that the running shows work so much better. New balance has a great walking shoe but it won't tolerate the distance walking. I also have flatter feet and need the arch support and currently havet he Saucony Trigon 4 Guide which I got fitted at the running shoe store. After trying so many other this is the only one I didn't need to put arch supports in. I agree with everyone else you need to take those other back and get to a store that can fit you properly.

Tiff--- Glad that your DH is doing better.

I have not done any type of exercise since my LW of 10 miles on Sat. I started with some sort of shin injury that I did notice Sat but do you stop walking no just keep on going. Then I mowed grass after the walk and to end the day spent 4 hrs on my feet working at the Church Carnival. So by Sunday my leg is swollen and really sore. Started the RICE program and Advil. Was able to go to work on Monday but was still was bothering me. It is starting to get better, but have been wearing a compression stocking to work and an Ace in the evening. I hope it is just shin splints and not a stress fracture. If no improvement by next week will get it looked at.

Pixie dust to everyone else with injuries.

After thunderstorms last night to be cooler here today.

Nancy

Just a quick post before I actually have to start doing real work.

Terri- Here is a kick in the behind for you :cool1: Get to the pool woman!

Howard- What is Cam going to do with you?

WWDave and Erica- So sorry for your loss. It is so sweet of you to get a replacement for Mary.

Kristi- I am so sorry to hear about Zack. I hope he feels better today.

Jen- Sending :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that your stress level decreases. Exercise can help with that too.

To all my other WISH friends, just keep moving. Stonkers or not, we all benefit from just putting in the steps (as Lily is fond of saying).

Hi guys! Happy Wednesday!

I went out for my 5 mile run last night. I think I learned that pizza is not a good pre-run food.... I took the run nice and slow since I worked out pretty hard at bikini boot camp the day before and I finished in 59:08 for an 11:50/mi pace. I also signed up for a yoga workshop this weekend - yoga for runners. It is taught by a yoga expert and an experienced marathoner and teaches you how to stretch effectively.

I'm still sore from boot camp on Monday....I really worked my upper body. Not sure what I will do for XT today as I like to do some sort of upper body routine to give the legs a break, but if I'm still hurting that may not be a good idea. I definitely want to get some more ab work in.

I'm not sure if I'm getting sick or if it is the dry air here but I've been so thirsty lately...

WWDave and Erica - I'm so sorry about your dog. :grouphug: Our old dog Mackintosh basically went through congestive heart failure and it happened so quickly. I'm glad to hear you have a new friend in the house. Hope your lab is doing OK though.
Nancy - I'm so sorry about your pet too. :grouphug: I hope your shins start feeling better.
Krista - Good luck with the shoe shopping this weekend! That drink at Target sounds good (kind of reminds me of a Sonic Cherry Lime-Aid.....yummy). Makes me miss Target!
Stephanie - Good luck with your 4 miles and have fun at Target!
Kristi - I'll let you know! It kind of depends on my friend right now (and airfare not going up). I looked in an earlier issue of RW yesterday and saw they had some routes around Boston mapped out (from their Boston Marathon issue). They sound really nice so I may just check one of those routes out instead of entering a race. If I get to go that is....
Mary Kathryn - Dairy Days sounds like a lot of fun!
Laura - When my mom and I went shopping for her shoes, the running store steered her away from walking shoes as well, even though she won't be running. Good luck finding the right pair.
Diane - Sorry to hear you had a stonker.

OK folks, sorry to those I missed, but I have got to get on with work...

Thank you for caring.  I am alive and well despite taking it easy yesterday morning less than 24 hours after donating blood.

I went out this morning and ran 3 miles in 28:31 for a 9:30 pace. I am also seeing this pay off in the weight loss department a bit. Nothing earth shattering, but I've dropped 2.7 pounds this week. It is a trend that will surely continue as I train for the CDC and hopefully beyond.

And.... No, I don't think that has anything to do with the blood letting, just the 9 miles I've logged since Monday and my less is more eating behavior.

Getting up at 6 AM to get my daily 3 miles in is not too fun.... but I feel good having done it. Tomorrow I get to sleep in until about 7 AM since we are running in a 5K tomorrow evening.

Happy Training!

:grouphug:

Howard

Thank you guys for the kind words. We can't pick the Kitten up till Sunday because they have to perform the nutering procedure and let him rest after.

I didn't get out to walk yesterday, to much sadness over the pup. But I had a nice 4 mile walk this morning. Comfortable effort on the hills, 51 min total time including the slow first mile to warm up. I have three days to press the pace a little before I taper back for the Senior Games at he end of the month.

A little bird was in a cow pasture nearly frozen to death. A cow came along and pooped on him. The warm poop thawed him out and he felt so good he started singing. A cat heard him singing and pulled him out and ate him.

The Moral is: when you are in deep poop, keep your mouth shut.

That is your "YARC" joke of the day.;)

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Had another slower run today. Pace was 12:40. I don't understand why my pace is slowing down?!? Left foot still hurts some, too. :confused3

I have a couple questions for you guys -

How much does height play into your pace? I'm only 4'11" and I'm wondering how much slower this makes me than others???

Also, Florida question -
We're going to the beach in a couple weeks and it hits during my last week of my program I'm on. I'm supposed to run a 10K. I just can't run on the TM. If I wake up really early like 5:30 or 6 AM and take off do you think I can run a 10K or will it already be too humid and hot outside? Thoughts?

Thanks guys! :goodvibes

A little lady about your size won the gold medal at the first ever women's marathon at the Olympics.

Shan - My phys ed teacher in middle school always thought I should be fast since I had long legs. Well....I'm not fast.... Congrats for getting the steps in. I understand it can be really disheartening to not see your pace drop. Remember that you are increasing your endurance and pace improvements can come later. Besides, I'm willing to bet that if you entered a 10K race you may suprise yourself at how quickly you go. Do you have a local 10K that you can sign up for between now and RFTT?

If your foot is hurting, be careful. You never want to increase more than one thing at once. That includes pace, distance and intensity. Hope your foot feels better soon.:wizard:

Hi Everyone,

I ran my LR on Monday. I did 9.34 mi in 1:37 (10:28 ave) I felt pretty good thru most of it. My stomach felt a bit off afterwards. Not sure if I drank too much Powerade during the run. I brought a 24 oz bottle of very watered down Powerade with me and drank most of it by the end of the run. When I finished I had my usual post-race treat of chocolate milk. Maybe it was the combo of the 2. I'll have to experiment more to find something that sits right.
I brought my cell phone with me in a waist pouch, but it bounced the whole way annoying me to no end. Does anyone have something they could recommend for carrying their phone?

Jackie: Congrats on the 10 miler. What an accomplishment.

Howard: Congrats on the 5K time and the weight loss.

Cam: Good job on your race. Good luck with the next one.

Krista: I hear you about training in the hot weather. We haven't really had much hot weather yet, but I'm just imagining my 15 milers in August. Ugh!

Leana: Great job on your race. You have such a sunny outlook despite having to put up with such an unorganized event. Good job with all the XT you are doing. There aren't many races on the calendar in Boston for the 1st week in August. Check out coolrunning.com to see a few. Most of them seem to be fun runs during the week. The Khoury's Pub ones are supposed to be fun and aren't too far from Boston.

SWDave: I'm glad you made it home safely. Thanks for posting the pictures from Rio. They were gorgeous. Good for you for getting so many runs in.

Meghan: Congrats on finding a quad muscle.

Stacey: Hope the back feels better soon.

Dana: Great pace especially since you were pushing the stroller. Good for Michael with his training.

TriMom: Hope your knee feels better.

WWDave: Sorry about your dog. Great news on passing your exam.

Bill: Hope the calf is better. I can't believe you misplaced the Binky!

Diane: Sorry the 4 miler was so hard. I often find I do better on the LRs than shorter ones. Maybe I prepare myself better (both mentally and physically) for the long ones.

Best Wishes to all I've missed.

Cindy

WWDave & Erica - :grouphug:

Cindy - I use a belt clip for my phone and hook it on to my waist pack.

Shan - One step at a time. Look at how far you've come! You're going to have good tiems and bad though adn times when you don't think you're improving. STick it out, without over doing it, and you'll see progrss. As for the 10K bright adn early, it's gonna depend. If it's an 85 degree high day, you should be ok that early. If it's 85 when you wake up, forget it. Figure out how long it would take you to run that distance and run laps in teh pool maybe?

Howard - That  better not be directed at me young man! :p

Leana - WIsh you had asked me about the pizza. ;) My stomach can handle a lot, but NOT pizza. SOrry !

Krista - SOunds like a shoe thing to me. My picks would be ASICs or Mizunos.

Jen - :grouphug:

Nancy - Sounds like you need a break from everything. Good Luck! Kind of like when I took time off during the x-mas shoppign season. yeah, didn't work. ;)

Kristy - I'm getting back into the swing of things tonight. Want to join me?

Heather - Real work? Just skip it like I do! :p Oops, forgot you wan tto keep your job.

trimom - :rotfl2:

Stephanie - DId you make it or are you calling Target XT? :p

Stephanie & Melissa - Got a head hunter that wants me to take a job in LIttle ROck. You are the only 2 benefits I oculd think of. (WHat part of not willing to relocate do they not understand?) So, I'll have it pass. Thoght of you both, though!

Cindy: I have one of this things that you wrap around your arm, fits my cell and Ipod. I got it from Walmart for $10.

Congrats to you all on the workouts....whew i am tired just reading them.

Nancy, I suffer on and off on shin splints. Just when I say I haven't had them for along time I get them again. I find that after about a kilometer they stop hurting and I ice them when I get home. I have noticed that I mostly get them when I start off my walk to fast and don't warm up.

Kristi: Hope Zack is feeling better soon.

Oopss gotta go, meeting time, will catch up later.

I added a 4 K bike ride last night while DH ran and I have a 3 K on tap for tonight....

Kim

Carrie--What do you mean "not willing to relocate"?? ;) But thanks for considering me a positive aspect. Little Rock is a wonderful small "big" city, but like the cliche "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen" and it's darn hot today! You're always welcome to visit--got some great running trails here

Krista--I saw that drink you mentioned at Target today--we had lunch at the snack bar (healthy eating at it's best) Ithought about trying it, but went with the Diet Coke standby instead. Definitely will give it a try the next time!:thumbsup2

Oh, and yes, I would think hauling 2 crazy kiddos around Target counts as XT--but I did get the 4 miles in beforehand! The 4 miler was pretty good, in 35:40ish. Boy, that speed work and weight training has really been paying off. I've been having this weird pain though along the outside of my right lower calf--but it doesn't hurt when running, just when pointing and flexing my foot:confused3

Just to let ya'll know, if you hear a loud scream around 5ish today, it's b/c DH has discovered my reciepts from my shopping excursion today, don't think he'll take the XT reasoning into account!:rotfl2:

:lmao: :lmao: , yes, sounds like I might enjoy a December visit! Grat job on the run! Next time you're at target, feel free to have a pretzel and a frozen coke for me!

Well I got to Curves this a.m. It feels good to be doing at least some exercise again. I think we will have a reprieve from the heat tomorrow a.m. so I hope to get out for another 3 miler. Working on gradually getting back into it. My tendonitis is still bothering me from Monday. I keep pointing & flexing those toes!

Cindy-for races where I want to carry my cell phone & camera, I use a waist pouch I found at Fleet Feet. It doesnt bounce at all. I know others here have gotten some from REI, just make sure to train with it some before a race:thumbsup2

WWdave- :lmao: I always look forward to reading your posts. So sorry about your dog.:grouphug:

Carrie-I told DH the only way I would relocate is if it got me closer to WDW  Little Rock is closer than MI

Stephanie-I know what you mean about the heat, we are supposed to be approacing 100 here this weekend. And we feed our kids lunch at Sam's everytime we go there. Cheap & easy!

Krista-sure you arent just making up pains to have a good excuse to go buy some new shoes  How's your sister doing?

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

Cam & Howard-good luck on your 5k tonight!!! When is your cruise next month? I just paid off our Oct 7 day Magic cruise

I couldn't stand it anymore. I was going to take this whole week off, but I've had brand new shoes staring at me for 5 days and my foot's feeling better, so...:rolleyes1

I did a real easy 40 min last night on the TM, then got out of work early today and came home for 50 min on the TM. I've given up tempo runs for now, but the new shoes seem good so far. I'm hoping all I needed was just a little more cushion!

Tiff...great to hear from you! Glad things are improving. :grouphug:

WWDave...so sorry to hear of your dog. :grouphug:

Krista...I second Carrie's ASICS and Mizuno recommendation. I seem to be getting along well with the Saucony's right now. How's Steve...doesn't seem like he's been around these parts much lately?

Jen...:grouphug: hope the stress level improves and the family stuff lets up soon.

Sorry to miss so many...I'm off to take WT to swim lessons!

Just thought I'd share something weird -

Monday on my run a bug flew into my eye and stung me. Hurt like hell, but I was half way into my run so I kept going. I thought for sure when I got home my eye would be all swollen. But, nada. Two days later (today) I wake up to find my lower lid all red and swollen. How weird is that?

Does everyone wear sunglasses when out running? I dunno, I think that might drive me crazy. I like wearing my baseball hat.

Leana, I looked and didn't see any 10Ks. The Peachtree Road Race would have been perfect timing wise, but we'll be out of town and that fills up like immediately. I might look for a 5K when we get back, just to get an idea how the whole race thing works before heading down for RFTT.

Carrie, I'm wondering if I should skip that week and just repeat the week prior and then do the 10K week when I get back home. Then again I'd be doing two easy weeks back to back... Would that make doing my final week in my program too hard? Thoughts?

Thanks guys!
