Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Mornin' folks.

I did 5 slimy, miles yesterday. It's that time of year. I've decided to invent a jog bra horn to help pry the darn things off after a run. You have to be a contortionist to get the goofy things off.

Was that a drive-by from Matt? Great to see you...hope deployment is over soon.

Megan...great Grand Canyon pictures! Definitely on my bucket list.

Tracy...how's the ankle holding up? We went up to the base for a shuttle launch once when i lived in Brevard. Got scrubbed about 9 min before takeoff.

Terri...great pace!! How you doin?

hokie...so what's your next big running adventure?

I'm all registered for the Women's Half marathon in St. Pete in Nov. I haven't quite registered for Space Coast yet (it's the following weekend). I did 3 halfs in 3 months this year, but haven't done back to back before. I'm also trying to find a triathlon with an itty bitty 1/4 mile swim. Of course, there's one at WDW with a 1/2 mile swim in Sept I may sign up for. Now where is that lottery ticket...gonna need it to pay for all these races :lmao:

Good training week everyone...official training for WDW starts in just a couple months.

Morning everyone!

Got in 10k in 50 minutes this morning. Still on a crazy schedule but it should start to settle down again in the next week or so.

Best,
Jennifer

Mel, you're not kidding about trying to get those sports bras off after a run! :scared:

Got in 5.50 miles this morning. It was brutal, but I survived. Between my right shin and the heat it took all my will power. :headache:

Hope everyone else has better runs today! :grouphug:

Great Grand Canyon pictures!

Chimera, sounds like you have a busy schedule lined up there. I was looking for races and was just overwhelmed by the amount of choices, so many fun ones and great causes, it could get expensive quick.

For my next adventure, I think I'm going to try the Galloway plan for a 10K. I'm still playing around with the walking break ratio. 1:1 seems like too much walking to me. I'm going try it for a little while and check the pace and see how it goes. I'm looking at a 10K the end of September.

Does anyone here do Team in Training? what can you tell me about?

I've been dropping by and reading everyone's posts, but too depressed to post. The "it" band thing is getting better and have been "allowed" to run one mile every other day. I have been walking-which makes me think of Tracy and know it hurt physically as well as mentally when you turned your ankle. I should have started training for the DL half today, but can't so it is a good thing I didn't sign up. Congrats to Jennifer on graduation and getting a job-as a mother with one graduate (who has a job)-I know you are happy to have finished and have a JOB.
To all the others, I look forward to reading your accomplishments and living vicariously through you until I run again.

Mel - Miles are definitely getting slimy. We did 10 yesterday, then I got home and DH wanted to take the dogs for a walk. His plan was to go 3 miles, but I had a meltdown after a mile so we turned around and came home. Ended up with 2 very soggy extra miles for the day. I was completely exhausted for the remainder of the day, but I did get the sports bra off so I could get into the shower! And when you find the lottery ticket, if you could spare just a few extra dollars... :lmao:

Hokie - The best thing about the Galloway plans is that you can always alter the walk breaks for whatever feels right for you. I'm in a group now that does 2:30R/1:00W, but when we go back out for extra miles, we switch to 2R/1W when we get tired. We're planning on doing our marathon at a 2R/1W, but definitely plan to train all season at longer run intervals so the marathon will seem easy!

Joan - Hang in there. Having suffered through the IT band last summer/fall, I know how frustrating it is. I did nothing at all for 2 months, then started back at a 4W/1R, I think. Then I did a couple of long walks with Jeanne and Wendy to get ready for the Disney full since I was running out of training time to get back to my regular training schedule. (BTW, I made up my own recovery plan - the doc prescribed physical therapy, but I blew him off and did 100% rest instead!)

Megan - Love the pictures! Like Mel, Grand Canyon is on my bucket list. One year we're going to forgo Disney and head west.

DD is away at camp this week, so I hope DH and I can finalize our race plans for the next year. With college expenses beginning, it's a little scary, but we think we're just going to take the plunge and commit to the Disney Half anyway, and I'm determined to do Indianapolis as well. That will give me Richmond (Full) in Nov, probably Victory Junction (Half) in December, Disney in Jan, Myrtle Beach (Half) in Feb, and Indy in May.

In the meantime, gotta get used to running in the heat. I thought I was prepared, but yesterday really hurt. I was feeling okay till we stopped for a potty break and had to really push to catch up to the group, and I had a hard time getting it back after that. We finished the original scheduled 5 miles (which was really 5.75), then went back out for another very tough 4. Followed by the 2 miles with the dogs, which included my almost collapse since it was 85 degrees, humid, and we were in the blazing sun with no water. You'd think I should know better? I haven't felt that bad after a run in a couple of years. :sad2: We WILL hydrate better this week!

Jackie

Hey Everyone!
Im still hanging in there with my marathon goal. This weekend my long run was 10 miles. The longest Ive ever run!! The last mile was slow going and my legs were saying, stop and walk, but I kept my mind focused and made it in 90 minutes exactly. It felt sooo good to finish! Today Im resting but my body feels great. Im planning and easy 3 miles tomorrow. Have a great week.
Lisa

I went out on a 11 miler with the clinic. It was our first bus run of the year. Heat got to me, so I backed off in order to make it to the finish standing up. The rest of my group hammered out 13 miles, but I decided to save it for another day. Hmmm, 13 miles on the bike yesterday = tired legs today.

Hey WISHers!!!

Mel, I was thinking exactly the same thing about the sports bra!! I stood there yesterday after my melty 6 miles and thought maybe I should cut the thing off. I hate it when you just so sweaty, it kinda disgusted me in a way!
Sounds like you really want a TRI to do - hope it all works out.

Lisa: great job on getting those 10 miles in!!!

Joan: Sorry to hear about the IT band issues!! Hang in there and don't overdo!!

I haven't done TnT, but a friend of mine is now one of there coaches.

AFM: Yes, we went up to see the shuttle launch. Left Friday afternoon, got up there and got checked in to the hotel. Drove around and found a place to eat. Got up early Saturday morning - all dressed and when the news came on it said it was scrubbed - UGH!! so, we drove up that was anyway just to look across the water. Then down to Cocoa Beach to shop at Ron Jons and then back home. It was still fun even if we didn't see the launch.
Ankle is doing just fine and have been able to get in the miles. yesterday was a nice sweaty and drippy 6 miles. If I had been out there much longer, I would have ended up a puddle on the sidewalk!!! Elbow bombs and pinky pistols galore!!!

Have a great Monday everyone!!

Racey Tracy

can anyone help me find the wish team on facebook?

Big Hello to everyone! Been reading just not posting much.

Congrats to everyone for getting out and getting it done! Know I'll regret it later, but would like if someone could send some warmer temps our way. Been considerably below average.

AFM: I did my first triathlon yesterday. Fell short of what I would've liked to have done but ran into some issues, learned from them and will be better prepared for the next one. Even with the problems I did accomplish what I set out to do -- complete it!

Have a great day!

Oh yes! that would be such a helpful tool! :lmao::thumbsup2

Joan, I'm sorry about your IT band issues. Are you doing the stretching to help that? I did my Goofy with that issue and I must say it was quite difficult. Here's hoping that your stretches get you out of pain soon. Walking and stretching is a good thing too if you can't run yet.

Angie, go here: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1260781579&ref=profile#/group.php?gid=24152623077

It's a good time to be out there and I'm enjoying moving about.

Mel- Good luck with your bra horn. That is why I stopped wearing them...wait, did I just type that out loud? :lmao:

Joan- Good luck with the IT band. Mine bothered me once when I got a little too ambitious with the mileage. I went online and found some stretches that I do religiously now.

Liz- I've heard you learn more from failures than success but who knows, people say a lot of things. The best way to forget about a bad run is to get back on the horse and have a good run.

I just got back from a nice evening 6.5 miler. I love running at night but have to get in some day runs to get ready for the heat that will eventually find its way to Cleveland. I went all in for the next two weekend race wise. This weekend I have a 5K Friday and Saturday nights and then next weekend I have a 4 miler Friday night and a 5K Saturday and Sunday morning. I figured it is one way to get in the speedwork 3 miles at a time :thumbsup2

Hi all. Just checking in during a long day at work....

Mel That's the benefit of being flat chested. Those darn jog bras just slide right off!:lmao:

Jennifer Good for you for getting in runs while you adjust to your new schedule. I would probably succumb to chronic laziness!

Joan Hope your IT band heals soon. After going through that myself (and stretching, new shoes, Physical therapy), I know it can be really frustrating and sometimes no matter what you do-things don't help. But it will get better. I hope you find what works for you to heal it...and soon!

Jackie Wow! Already thinking about races for next year? That's commitment. Where is your daughter going to school--not sure if I saw that anyplace.

Lisa WTG on your run. Doesn't it feel good when it feels good?

Jeff Hi...that's it, just hi! Okay, I admit that when you said "bus run" it conjured up some pretty amusing images of people running with buses, on buses, etc.

Tracy Hi! Sorry the lift-off was a wash, but glad you enjoyed your quick getaway. Also glad you're ankles are fine. I was at the gym this morning and sweat was flying off everywhere....made me wonder, do you have a name for sweat flying off your wrists? That seems to be a new spot for me!

Frank You crazy...for all those runs (and we won't even talk about your bra!)

LizYEAH! You are a triathlete...now come kick my butt to sign up for the one I should be doing!

As for me...more of the same. I will glad to switch up my training soon. I feel a rut coming on.....

Maura

Hey team, hope you're all doing well and getting in your reps and miles.

8 1/4 of rough, HOT, miles. Legs weren't cooperating with the brain.

Followed it up with 800 meter ocean swim.

Have a great Wednesday!

I went out on what has to be the worst run ever after work. I tried to cram it in before it rained and it was just miserable. I am hoping to do some biking tomorrow before my weekend racing but I don't think he weather will cooperate.

Morning!

Maura - go sign up!!! That help? When is the one you're looking at? (as Liz sees if she can cram in another event....)

Frank - fortunately the mistakes are the kind I can learn from versus the "well that was just stupid" variety.

Jeff - cannot imagine the strength required for an ocean swim and after a run. Like the ocean but think I'll just stay with enjoying my swims/floats in it. :upsidedow

Took the time last night to take care of yard work since it was not raining unlike Mon/Tue/today/Fri. Gym tonight for weight work.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the compliments. I absolutely love the Grand Canyon. I told my BFF that she needs to start saving for a rafting trip (after our Princess half trip though!). I worked all day Sunday in the garden and my hamstrings were tight through Tuesday. I only got 1-1/4 miles in since I was so uncomfortable. I am going to run again tonight. Inside probably. I heard about some people getting harrassed on my favorite running trail so I probably won't go there by myself anymore. Now I just need to get DBF up early to run on Saturday.

Everyone in the Northeast stay dry!

AAAHHHH! I DID!!! I am now registered for She Rocks, June 28 at Waterloo Recreation Area near Chelsea, Michigan.:scared1:
