Hey guys - no training to report here. I got 4 hours sleep and have been out of the house since 3:30am. I am crashing big time!

Anyway, I do have great news to report! I received some emails from Tiffany recently. Rick is halfway though treatment now, and his tumor is shrinking!!! She misses her training alot. She gave me permission to post the wonderful news about Rick though.

I did buy some heavier dumbbells at Wal-Mart in my travels today. So watch out the next time I do my "tank top arms!"

Mel - I wish I had some advice. *hugs*

Queen Judy - just do it and get it over with. Hey - usually you get pretty good drugs when you have surgery, ya know! ;-) (I say this as if I have ever done an illegal substance in my life - ha!) Every time I have one of those endoscopies, I try to talk to the doctor & keep my eyes open as long as I can - that way I get more "happy juice!"

Karen - I have been getting quite a bit of pain in my hip area too. Now, I was diagnosed with hip bursitis when I was like 17. The ONLY thing that has ever helped is stretching my hip constantly, and whenever I start to feel it tightening up I have to make sure I am doing it. It works really well though, even better than a novacaine shot to the joint which hurts like HECK and doesn't work!!

Cam - That pace of yours just keeps getting better doesn't it!!

Craig - THAT IS AWESOME!! My feelings after '07 were similar to yours as are my goals for training for this year. I am averaging about an 8:30 pace, but am dreaming of sub 8!! I have been doing something similar to your run today as far as intervals... I just gradually increase my pace for 4 minutes to the point that the last minute is flat out, then start all over again at a nice jog. I did that today for 3 miles.

Shan - Congrats on the 100 miles!!

Jen - Welcome!! I noticed that you said your son was 15?.... I don't know if Disney will allow him to run the full. I think you have to be 18 ... you might want to check.

Dona - You definately don't need anything special to get on that bus, you just have to be staying at one of the "DISNEY" hotels. As far as getting around your family can always use the Disney transportation, it's faster than trying to get around by car anyway. I always book through CRO instead of Disney Sports.

Well.... I got my Tahoe last night!! I LOVE IT!! I was able to go out to the Rail Trail for my run this morning. It was great I ran 3 miles doing speed work, and finished in 26:20 (8:40 mpm). Then I ran another 1.5 miles with Michael who started his r3/w1 this week. He has done really good. A couple of bikers (the bicycle kind) passed us as we were running and told Michael what a wonderful job he was doing running with me, and he just beamed!! He has another run with Michael tomorrow for another 1.5 miles, then I have another 6 mile LR scheduled for Saturday, as long as it's not raining. I am not taking my new Tahoe out in the rain for another run at the rail trail again!! LOL

Someone said half marathon entries for 2008 may still be available through www.marathontours.com or www.anthonytravel.com.

Yes, Dana is correct, athletes need to be 18 yo to run the marathon. I would check into one of the two reputable companies above if you and your son still have interest in 2008 half marathon.

Judy, I feel your pain (somewhat). Good luck with the surgery.
Maybe we can commiserate together.

I went back to the Dr. today for him to give me the results of the MRI. Turns out he thinks I have a stress fracture of the talus bone. The pics didn't show an actual fracture line, but he said there was marrow fluid around the bone cavity and the only way that would be there was if there was a fracture. I just want to scream. I am so bummed. He said to stay off of it as much as possible. I should use the crtuches to be totally non weight-bearing. I can't go back on those things now. I'm too busy at work. So, as long as I don't do any running, jumping, pounding, etc. he said it could take anywhere from 4-6 weeks for it to heal. Since I couldn't run until the end of July anyway because of the achilles problem in the other ankle, I think I can handle it. The only thing he said I can do is swim. Oh yeah, the MRI also showed I have achilles tendonosis in that foot, too. He said that could rupture like the other one did. This is giving me a .
And to top it off, I am so hating my job today.

I think I need a Dis vacation to get me some pixie dust. I don't know if I can hold out till my scheduled Aug. trip.

Will any of you be following the Jeff Galloway plan for walking or "running" the WDW Marathon in January?

Official training, according to the schedule, begins on Monday - if I laid out the dates and training plan correctly . . .

There must be some clever website that has you enter in the date of the marathon and it will spit out for you . . . right?

Martha, actually when my program ends in a 10K I'll be at the beach.

DH said he'd wake up before dawn and run it with me. We'll see...

If we had planned on being at home I'd probably have tried to get into the Peachtree Road Race.

I'll start the maintenance 13 week program when we get back which also ends in a 10K and perfectly enough to the day for when I'm signed up for Race for the Taste!

I was just in a hurry to pick up my walking and start running and this plan I'm on really seemed like something that would work for me.

That pretty darn quick getting 3 at 8:40 per mile average pace. You've reported nice results recently, so I'm not surprised at all with your pace.

One thing I noticed in the past when I was faster and trained hard was that my high intensity max pace was way faster than the average pace I carried over a distance like 3 miles. With you holding 8:40 per mile I suspect that means you could do 1/2 mile or full mile repeats about 7:30 per mile, with easy recovery jogs between the repeats.

When you are doing really fast repeats its important to make sure your recovery jogs are slow so you can recover. In my case the hard repeats would hold about the same speed, but each successive recovery jog got slower and slower as I needed more recovery time.

I'd bet you a bottle of fine wine that right now you could do a 4 or 5 mile speed workout like this:

1/2 mile easy warm up
1/2 mile in 3:40 to 3:50
do this 4 or 5 times and then feel good about your workout.

One workout every 2 weeks like this will train your body to run hard and run relaxed at the same time. On race day if you want to average 8:30 per mile for 10K or longer, that 8:30 pace will feel effortless compared to the hard work you've done.

Will you be running the Disney full in 2008? Perhaps we should find each other in the corrals and run it as a team. More than anything in 2008 I would actually like to run those stupid last 8 miles. In 2006 and worse in 2007, those last 8 were pretty terrible.

Kim - in regards to the TM, - nope, I am a faster runner on the TM because I refuse to push the slow down button, when I am outside, I don't have the electronic pace control, so I tend to slack a little, but I much perfer running outside, its more interesting

Marathonmommy - I think that anyone who is willing to move their bum 26 miles deserves to be a marathoner. I know that I couldn't have finished my marathon without some walking PBBBBBBBBB! on the snobs

Dana – How kind of you to notice! I was pretty psyched myself! I have done faster splits but not been able to maintain a pace, so I am really looking at maintaining an improving pace for longer distances, if that makes sense. I’d be perfectly pleased for the moment if I could do consistent 13:00 miles, but as the distance increases, I will have to see how my hip and my lungs handle it. I’d love to go 13:00 pace for CDC but don’t want to set myself up for disappointment if I am just not there yet by that time. I think we have 8 more weeks, so keep your fingers crossed for me! And congrats to Mike for sticking with it. And congrats to you on your new Tahoe!

Mel – As usual, I don’t even hazard a guess on the medical stuff, but I wanted you to know we are looking forward to seeing you in Chicago no matter what!

Christa – OMG! How in the world did you manage all of that biking and running and dancing and mommy-ing and, and, and . . . I am just flabbergasted! How is my sweet Bree and darling Luke? Please tell Bree I think of her often!

To everyone who thanked me for my work with SO, I have to tell you, I am the fortunate one to have these opportunities – I always thank the Executive Director for allowing me to work with the organization. Delaware’s program is an awesome model and if I heard correctly, I think it now serves something like 2700 mentally ******** citizens in our state. I am absolutely passionate about recognizing that God has given each of us different talents and abilities – we all perform at different levels, but the fact is that every one of those ATHLETES is out there working hard to train and compete. I love the Special Olympic Oath: “Please let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” Just getting out there takes a level of courage that many of us will never appreciate, so the attempt itself is the victory.

This weekend is our Relay for Life event (tomorrow-Saturday) Long day/night. It is supposed to be good weather thankfully. I'll be putting in lots of steps.

I am so proud to be sporting my WISH shirt tomorrow and you guys will definitely be there in spirit making the miles fly by just a little easier. Thanks for the inspiration and sharing the ride . WISH rocks !!

I promise to do a race report and post pics. I am in MN on business until Wednesday so I hope to have time while traveling.

I am glad there is another Zack. We still get garbage from both families on occassion over that one. His full name is Zachary with an "h." We just thought the nickname Zack with a "k" looked better. If I see Zach with the "ch," I hear the usual "ch" sound in my head (not the hard "k" sound). I now, I am weird.... My own mother even brought this up recently. Zack is almost 4 and she claims not to know we preferred "Zack!"

A quick post before work.

It finally didn't rain for one night and I got my speed work run in. The following are the paces:

warmup 1 mile - 11:15
run 1 mile - 8:12
walk 1/2 mile - 7:04
run 1 mile - 8:27
walk 1/2 mile - 7:14

My calf started to get sore in the middle of the second run so the times dropped off. I think it is feeling better today but I will see what it feels like later.

Judy - Sorry to hear about your most recent problems. I hope that everything works out the way you want it to.

Christa - That is a pretty good workout. With alll that training you are going to have to come out here in January.

MSDave - It definately looks like you are suffering out there.

Lily--Have fun with Relay for Life this weekend. We supported our team by providing snacks--we did walk the track once with the kiddos--but DS couldn't decide what direction he wanted togo, so it took us around 20 minutes to make it around once!

Well, no training from me yesterday and I'm going to try to get 7 miles in today while DD is at camp. It will be on the TM, but with my work schedule this weekend, if I don't do my LR today it won't get done.
