Wk of June 10--WISH Walking/Running Club

I am beginning to question the wisdom of training for a fall marathon. I had to bail on my run today, I was supposed to do 5, I ended up doing 3.62. I was an idiot and waited until 12:30 to start the run when it was about 84 degrees. At 3.62 miles I was in front of my house and I threw the towel in, it was just was too hot. In fact an hour and a half and a shower later and my face is still bright red hot from the heat. I'm going to have to be more vigilant about getting up early on Saturday mornings for my lr.

Jackie--Congrats on your 10 miler!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Still feeling good?

Howard and Cam--Congrats on your 5K!!!!!!!!

I better go and play with Hines, he is standing at the back door with a ball in his mouth. Think he's trying to tell me something? :confused3 :)

I am officially giving up on trying to keep up with these threads!

Training plan called for a rather short LR - only 3 miles. But, next week things start to pick up as I transition from w3/r1 to w3/r2. DH is going to be out of town for the week, so I am working on a plan to get in my training. I don't mind doing my shorter workouts at the gym (where I can dump my DDs in childcare for a bit) but I cannot stand the thought of doing 6 miles on the TM next weekend. I also don't think I am supposed to keep the kids in childcare longer than an hour and I know it will take me a heck of a lot longer than that to finish 6 miles! Anyway, I will probably have to find a sitter for a couple of hours.

Today's shorter run went well. I was able to finish the 3 miles in less than 40 minutes (39 and change, but it still counts as less than 40!).

Cam, I remember reading several posts back that your goal for CDC is a 13 min mile pace, me too! But, you are currently kicking my butt with your times, so either you are going to be faster than that or I am going to be closer to a 14 min mile. I seem to be averaging 13:40 min miles right now, but I did manage to do mile 3 today at less than 13, so maybe there is hope for me yet. At this point I don't care as long as I finish. This will be my first race and I am starting to get nervous. Great job on your 5K!

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!

Meghan -- How awesome that you can sustain 14 right now and that you had a sub--13:00 mile! I was really psyched Wednesday night to hit 3 miles at below 40 but then realized I was supposed to be doing 3.1 and was aiming to do that in less than 40 and finished in 40:28. As you can see, my outside pace is slower. I think my running is faster but walking is slower. :confused3: CDC is 8 weeks away. I think right now my goal is going to have to be sustaining 13:00 for the distance. I just don't know if I am there yet. But it is good to have a goal. :goodvibes

BTW, I did a 20 mile full marathon training LR on the treadmill last fall. It wasn't as horrendous as I expected. Of course, having 2 movies to watch on my video ipod and a good book to make up the difference in time helped, too! :lmao: Since I train alone and my vision is so bad, I am reluctant to go outside for the distances, and I am so fortunate that I've always had WISHers at the actual races, including my awesome race partner, Rhonda (akasleepingbeauty) , for all my Disney races so far except for the Disneyland 1/2-- Kristi hung out with me there for a mile or 2 :cloud9:

Hey guys,

I just looked up Sara's Grandma's marathon time and she ran an AWESOME race!!!!

I will let her tell you the details, but I will definitely need to do a LOT of speedwork this summer to keep up with her at MCM!!

I am SO proud of you girl!!:cool1:

Cam and Howard, good job in your 5K! I think it is so great that so many of you are keeping up with a running routine during OFF season. My motivation has tanked once again.

Jackie, you ran 10 miles! That is so great! :woohoo: Very impressive effort because it is VERY humid in NC today!

Renee -

Nancy - Where's Jeanne been?

Jackie

Jeanne was on the first Disney Magic cruise in the Med and then when she returned home she had to leave again to help her DD find an apartment in Michigan as she got a promotion and moving there in July. She will be back on Tues. Congratulations on your 10 mile run.

Cam--- Don't be so hard on yourself, my average pace is 14:30 you seem fast to me.

Krista-- As much as I hate to get up early on Sat or Sun, I do make the special effort when it is my day to do a LW. Otherwise I would be like you and call it quits early when it is so hot.

Did 10 miles today in under 2:30 at the rail trail. DH is also walking and did 8 miles. He is going to be doing the ToT so is working on increasing his speed. He has had open heart surgery last year and also has 2 stents in his legs he has no problem with the walking it is just he isn't fast. He will be ok for the ToT as he does complete the 8 miles under the 2:30 time limit.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Nancy

Howard - Congratulations on your 5K times!

Cam - Congratulations on your 5K too. I think your time is great. Even if you didn't show any improvement, think about all you've done the past few weeks. I think it's amazing that you did the same time with all the time off from training!

Krista - You have to get out earlier than 12:30! We were done by 10:00, and I was still soaking wet.

Meghan - You're doing great!

Colleen - At least it wasn't miserably hot, but it was definitely humid this morning.

Nancy
- Great job on your 10 mile walk.

Thanks for all the congratulations. I'm still feeling pretty proud of myself. The heel isn't feeling so great, but I'm doing lots of ice and Advil!

Jackie

Hey Everyone. OK, I have a couple more minutes before my ride is here so I'll send a couple of pictures from my day today. I went on a great tour of the rainforest. We hiked through the national park here in the city. Just 20 minutes from the beach and 10 million people we were lost in the forest.

There was a beautiful waterfall there in the park.

And then went to see the Christ the Redeemer Statue.

Afterwards we had dinner at a wonderful seafood restaurant. I came back to the hotel, went for a swim to clean up, and now I'm waiting for my ride to the airport. Time to head home, YAY!!!
