Wk of Jun 18--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy - Actually, when the taper starts, your legs will start hurting from NOT working out so much. Then, you'll do a short one (I think 20 minutes for both distances) the day before to loosen you up. Plus, you won't go days without trianing, you'll just decrease times/distances.

Cam - 30 minutes is fine! Listen to the Penguin! And, it's much better than my track record as of late!

Sunny -

SON OF A... :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc:!!!!!

I just spent a long time composing a message and responding to everyone on the thread and I lost it because the server was busy.

AAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!

No more time to write!!!!!

Let me say I'm still icing my shins a lot and doing deep water running hoping they heal. I'm going to try to run on Saturday on the track (nice and cushy) if my legs are feeling up to it.

I'm glad people are getting their socks and liking them.

There are a couple of things that stick out that I wanted to say.

Rhonda- I wish you all the best during this extremely difficult time. I'm so sorry your father has taken this turn, and you have all the support of this fellow WISH team member.

Mike- PD :wizard: :wizard: on your recent health trouble. It does sound like your exercise and healthy living has helped offset your genes a little bit. Hopefully you'll be able to keep your blood sugar under control.

Sunny- PD :wizard: :wizard: on a speedy recovery to your back. I hope you get some help and relief soon.

To everyone else, I'm sorry I don't have time to address everyone, but keep up the great training and running. And keep posting - but not so much that it makes the server so busy that I can't post!

After reading all that everyone is doing I have to admit something:

(I'm scared to try again) :sad2:

Okay I admit it but I still don't know how to get past this :guilty:

It's just ridiculous, Dave, isn't it?
I find I am spending so little time here and the time I do spend doesn't feel like quality. There is always a desperate feel to it as I wonder whether my posts are going to "take". It's gotten to where I can't even tell if a thread has been posted to, because the pages showing the threads seem to be significantly lagging before the actual posts. That is soooo frustrating!

No exaggeration -- I bet I "lose" 8 posts/thread updates out of 10.

Maybe that is why the :badpc: smilie is now on the front of the smilies page. :rotfl:

Dave - Let me give you a little hint....I compose all my replys in Word so I can toggle back and forth between Word and the thread. (Then I can spell check too. You all didn't think I was THAT good a typist, did you???) then I cut and paste it in my reply. Only after I am SURE that it has posted do I then scrap the Word document. :thumbsup2

Cam - No I had not seen you long post right above mine. HA HA HA! Are you serious???? They list barn chores? Mucking stalls? I'd LOVE to know what it's worth! :rotfl: Thats a pip!

ETA: I just had a thought....maybe we should share email addresses, just in case.....Mel, I hate to give you more work, but can we add email addresses to the WISH list?

I know it's not hte same as a list, but you know you can e-mail from the boards, right? As long as the person has chosen to accept e-mails, you can go to their profile and click Send E-mail. It's right below PM.

ETA: Many poeple's e-mails have thier real name. We may not wanted that posted where anyone can see. If someone starts a list, though, and those that have ordered shirts agree to it, I have an e-mail list from shirt orders.

Cam- you can walk with me & mom! We usually train for 14:30 pace but I am not wanting a PR or anything for the race. I only want to finish & enjoy the whole event. Meaning 14:30- 15 min pace is perfect! I dont remember what we put down for our finish time to see if we'd be in the same corral. But if its anything like WDW, they dont check anyway. OH, and I am really, really, really thinking hard about the full. I have already told DH that you said you would walk with me :woohoo:

Dave- I was having big problems with the server yesterday! I feel your pain.

Minnie- It's ok, just get out there & walk. Dont have any expectations except to get out there & put one foot in front of the other. I know how you feel, I was so disappointed in my performance after the Minnie that I didnt walk for 3 weeks. It feels great to be back into the program again!

Sunny- PD for you! I sure hope you get better soon!

Kristi-Shame on that Dr. That is ridiculous. Wow, he should write a book, stop exercising & only drink some shakes. Real healthy :sad2: Good luck in finding a good new one.

Dave-Thanks for taking on the sock thing. I have sent your payment! I hope your shins keep getting better.

Sorry I can't get everyone in, but I have to go to baseball fields to get DS trophy.

I have been fully back into training & it feels great. I've done my SR & xt & I am loving being back into a schedule again. Although, I could do without the heat! :sunny: My legs are a little sore from weights last night, but its a good sore (see, those aliens are still here  )

Tiff, just sending you a little encouragement!

Dave, I too had a long post :surfweb: ready to send a few days ago. I lost it as well, and :badpc: OMG, where did it go??? So frustrating!

Minnie, you can DO this! ::yes:: Tell us what's going on because I guarantee, every last one of us goes through difficult times in our training. It is normal, we are here for you girl! :wave2:

Sunny, "saw Anthrax warnings posted every 10 feet on the building", ...run girl and don't look back!

Krista, like everyone else said, your doctor is a wingnut! :clown:

Craig, I really appreciate you sharing your internal conversation about your decision to run Goofy last year. My DH is quite concerned I may be overdoing it running Chicago in October and then Goofy in January. I have already decided that the half will be very slow. Thank you for sharing.

Colleen

My friend and I did a 10k today and it was her first 10k. Our time was 1:54, which is lousy, but we had a great time. My normal walking buddy and I are doing a half in Aug. and we have to maintain a 13 min.mile, which I have never been able to do. Hopefully if I continue to train I should be ok. Can't wait til Jan. :cool1:

Two posts in two days, I must not be working hard enough. But just wanted to reply to a few folks

Krista: no definitely can't make it. It's Tim's 40th mid Dec and he had the choice of where to go and he wants to be in London watching his soccer team. We could have gone to Fla on the way back but it seemed a bit tricky datewise so next year it is.

Carrie: Sorry, you'd never guess I write for a living, guess I don't always do the words good. I meant that she'd done her 11th ever marathon six weeks ago, not that she'd done in 11 in six weeks (though I wouldn't it past her).

Judy: No, compared to a New York winter, we've got bikini weather here. In fact, it's bright blue sky and sunshine today, probably 60 degrees. But the last few nights we've had winds from the ski fields down south which has taken it down to about 40 degrees, which for our now tropical heat thinned blood is absolutely freezing!!! I have no idea how I'm going to cope in England in December, I may go into the hotel and not come out!

That's it - still doing the hour run tonight, hope it stays nice and dry. Helen

That's great! :bounce: Glad you had a good time, that is what it is all about. ::yes::

Hi Minnie :wave2: I have to admit, I'm right there with you. I'm scared I'm not going to be able to make it through the training. It seems like my shins won't get any better. I jumped on my one leg tonight and crumpled to the ground it hurt so much. Hang in there. Put one foot in front of the other. Try to break the task down into smaller tasks, get through June, get through July, and see where you are. That's what I keep telling myself. But I'm scared too...

Hi! :wave2:
I just registered for the half. I’m excited but nervous about starting this new adventure. I’m a beginner and will probably be attempting to walk the half. I need help figuring out how to add the clipart to my signature. I followed directions that were in another post – but all I see is a red x in my signature. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Hi Everyone :wave2: ,

It has been so crazy busy at work lately – and there is no sign of it slowing down anytime soon. :faint:

Last Friday they were moving people around (starting after 5p.m.), well one of my fellow admins had a family emergency so I packed up her desk to help out……I tell you on Thursday and Friday I didn’t even take lunch --- I’m just catching up on my work from last week but with all that my friend was going through I don’t mind one bit (I’m glad I could help her out).

Dave – Love the socks, just got them yesterday :woohoo:

Sunny – I loved your cake from last week! I know there was another cake out there by someone else but can’t remember who it was --- wish I was that good with things.

Jodi – I am so glad you are having such a great time planning the surprise for your DH. Do you have to arrange for him to be out of work or anything like that? My best friend took his wife and kids to WDW on a surprise long weekend and he set it up with her principal ahead of time for her to be away from work. She was stunned and thrilled.

Hi Cam :wave2: ,

I wasn’t able to schedule time off for my DH but I have him coming in that Friday (he would be leaving CT at 6:30PM – arrival in Florida at somewhere around 9:00PM). Saturday and Sunday no worries, Monday he will just have to schedule off himself – that’s why I decided not to wait until January to tell him about the trip, but to actually do it on our Anniversary (In October), which I’m actually going to move that celebration up a weekend. I already told him that he has to beat it that the Saturday (21st of October), so I can set up my basket and balloons, etc. for Sunday morning.

I actually contacted Disney, they gave me company that supplies their balloons, and I ordered a couple of official Disney World park Balloons (they are the Mickey/Minnie mylar balloons). In addition, I bought balloons at a local party store. I hope he is super surprised; I’m working so hard at the surprise.

199 Days....
Wow, Judy you are like me ;) I usually do a count down of some sort, unfortunately I haven’t had the time to do anything lately. :rolleyes2

Kristi - Get thyself to a new doctor, woman!
Kristi, I agree with Judy and the others. :teeth:

Okay, now as for training – Tonight I went to the fitness center and did 10 minutes on the elliptical, 20 minutes on the stationary bike……..then I moved onto doing 3 miles on the threadmill (although not thrilled with the time of 33 minutes – I’ll take it, I was just enjoying myself).

Well, have a good night everyone, I will try and check in tomorrow (I’m sorry I haven’t been around much lately).

Jodi

I am back from the Big Apple. I had a great trip. We had a special event last night at the Museum of Modern Art for clients and it was fantastic! I got to see Van Gogh's Starry Night and Monet's Water Lillies. I did get in some xt on 5th Avenue. Shopped at the World of Disney Store, American Girl, and Build-a-Bear. It was fun to get away, but I really missed my family and am glad to be home.

I have yet to start my training for DL, but I promise to start soon. (You notice I did not say tomorrow).

I love the WISH socks! My mom was so excited that she gets a pair. She is on board with going to DL with me in September. She is looking forward to being part of the Scream Team. Thanks again Dave!

Why is running with my dog always an adventure? We went to a running park last night to get in our run. On the way over he was pacing in the car and crying, I figured he had to potty. We get there, I get him out and he goes, I thought to myself, "good, now he won't have to go while we run". We started out doing 2-2, I was feeling great and running in the 9:00's and walking in the upper 12:00's. I was able to run in 9:00's the entire time, but we ended up walking in the 16:00's because every time we stopped to walk, Hines would tug on his leash to get over to the grass and would start peeing, he was peeing while he was walking! We did that for a while, until one walk break he started really tugging on the leash and wouldn't walk with me, so we stopped and he started sniffing around looking for a place to #2 potty. Thankfully I grabbed a couple of potty bags before we started, so I cleaned everything up, looked around and no garbage can. I had to run with a bag of poop in my hand for about a quarter mile, I thought I was going to throw up! After that episode, we continued on, during another walk break, Hines starts peeing and walking again, and then he started sniffing around, I thought "oh no!", but he wasn't looking for a place to place to potty, he plopped himself down on the ground and laid down. I guess he was tired! I made him get up, we only had 7 minutes to go. The last minutes of my run I had to slow down to an 11:00 pace because he was so far behind me, I couldn't drag him to go any faster!!! We ran 2.62 in 30 minutes, although I think it took us 40 minutes to run 30 and when we finished, Hines drank SO much water (there's a drinking fountain for dogs at the park), I thought he was going to make himself sick. So it was quite the adventure we had last night! Can't wait to do it again. ;) Stephen laughed at me the entire time, I told him he gets Hines next time! Oh, and Stephen said thanks for all the congrats on his tri.

Jodi--When is your anniversary? Our anniversary is Oct. 21. This year is the big 6 for us. Have fun planning! Although I don't know how you do it. Stephen and I sit down and plan everything, but I make him call and make all the reservations and ADR's. For some reason I just don't like doing it. How is your foot? Feeling better?

Helen--We will miss you! Guess I have to run Disney in 2008 now. :teeth:

Heather--It sounds like you had an awesome time! I'm very jealous, I would LOVE to go to New York City, I have never been.

Kristi--Your doctor sounds like a real winner! Have you found a new one yet?

Dana--I forgot to tell you congrats on your new house. Stephen and I built our house 2 1/2 years ago, we had so much fun and it was such a great process. It was really cool to see an empty piece of land turn into our home. We've already decided when we move, we are building again.

Speaking of building, where is Liz??

Tiff-- How is VBS going? Ready to pull your hair out yet?

Monte--Good job on your 10K.

Minnie--I completely know what you mean. After Disney and after the Flying Pig, I was nervous and scared to get started again, that's why I took off so much time after each event. I don't even know how to describe it, but I was definitely scared. Just start back slow, go for leisurely walks and ease back in. Do you have a mp3 player? Whenever I don't feel like working out, I always download new music, I get excited to listen to my new songs, but the only time I use my mp3 player is when I run, so I have to run to listen to my new songs. :rockband:

I better get off here and start my day. It's going to be a long one, I have to work a chili fest for the fire dept from 10-2ish. I'm the "to go coordinator", sounds important, huh? It just means that people pay me if they want their food to go. I'm not looking forward to it, it's outside and it's storming here with a high of 88. At least I get out of the office for a little bit!

Good morning,

Gosh, the summer has been pretty hot so far. This has been my running experience the last few days. Did a little speed work yesterday, but the kids put a quick end to that as they needed to get to the pool.

That this guy was cute!

Jenn, I had major vein problems after my second child-birth. I finally had them done last summer. First vein closure of the greater safonous veing (spelling?) and then vein ligation and stripping of both legs. I was very pleased with the results. No more throbbing and creapy crawly sensations, not to meniont the ugliness.
Sunny

Sunny: It's the throbbing and ugliness that I hate. I go to my doctor on Monday and will discuss it with her. I have had these veins since college and I am only 34 now. I really don't want to be stripped yet, unless she feels it is necessary. My fear is blood clots, but I don't know if varicose veins can cause that.

Cam: One of mine started as just a bump, but not the others. I have one that burst while I was PG because I have a pernament bruise on my rear calf. If you are concerned, ask your doctor the next time you are in.

I haven't signed up for my 5K yet. I pulled the registration form out and it hit me... IT'S NEXT SATURDAY. YIKES. DH says to just do it. I will probably be faster than my last one which I did in 39 minutes. I am aiming for 35 this time. I guess I should just send it in.

Oh but then reality hit when I realized summer is flying by and the 10K I want to run is the first week of September. I think I better start upping my mileage, especially on my weekend run. It is really hard for me to go more than 3 miles on weekdays because of my kids. We are going camping this weekend and I already announced that I will be running Saturday morning. Hopefully the campground roads are nice, and it will be a great visual change for me!
