Wk of Jun 11--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I haven't been able to post much because I've been dealing with the sock orders. I mailed out the first batch yesterday. For those of you that paid yesterday, your socks are going out today. They look really good. I can't wait to hear how you like them. I think SockGuy did a really good job on them.

As far as my training goes, I've been trying to rest my shins and get them healed up. I haven't run at all since my 5K on June 4th that really flared up my shin splints, but I have been cross training. I've been trying the deep water running, and doing 30 min bouts of that. It seems like I'm getting a good workout. I'll be curious to see how much fitness I lose. I haven't signed up for the Empire State Games yet. I have until July 3rd to sign up. I'm taking Kevin's advice and seeing how my shins heal up. I really want to get over these shin splints (if I can) so I'm ready to start my marathon training. I gotta keep my eyes on the ultimate goal of the WDW Marathon.

I wanted to catch up with my friends here:
Sunny - I think of you often, and hope you are recovering well. I'm sure not being able to do anything is really hard. Hang in there. BTW: Your Cars cake is awesome!

Krista - So what do you think of the Ben Roethlisberger situation? I can't believe he rides his motorcycle without a helmet. Did you get your run in yesterday?

Jackie - good for you for getting your steps in!

Judy - How's your little toe doing? Are you still getting your steps in?

MelR - Thanks for posting your pictures. They are fantastic! I'm so impressed at you getting through your XTerraTri. WTG! :thumbsup2 I hope the bike whisperer can get your bike to settle down. You might want to think about Jackie's question of whether your bike is a girl. Maybe that's why it's throwing you. You keep thinking it's a girl, and it's telling you it's a boy!

Jodi - Wow, 4 miles on the treadmill. Good for you! Do you have anymore races coming up?

Cam - Great job on getting your exercise in when you are so busy. That's awesome!

Kristi - hope the Peter Pan birthday party goes well! "If there's a dream in your heart... there's no better place to start..."

Heather - I hope works starts slowing up for you so you can get your training in for Disneyland!

Lisa - I just wanted to say again that I hope you are doing well. You are really an inspiration to me. When I get down because my shins are bothering me, I think of your signature - Arthroscopic knee surgery October 26th. COMPLETED THE HALF IN 2:38:24. If you can get through knee surgery 2 months before the half, I can get through these shin splints.

Lynnda - I love the Little Einsteins cake!

OK, back to packaging and mailing out socks!

Hi TEAM:

I saw that the DisneyShopping.com site has a personalized Mickey gym bag on sale for $14.99. I thought someone here might be interested in it.

Lisa and Rhonda... :grouphug: Our thoughts are with you both.

Lisa: :grouphug: So sorry to hear your news. My thoughts are with you.

Rhonda: :grouphug: Please know that i will continue to keep your father and your entire family in my thoughts!

Rhonda - So terribly sorry to hear about your Dad. I will keep him and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Somehow posting my training seems insignificant in light of all of my WISH teammates facing larger struggles this week.

Dave & Carrie - I sent you both payments this morning. I finally got caught up enough to get a chance to do it :teeth: Thanks so much!!

MelR - Loved the pic!! Thanks for sharing.

Happy training to all this weekend.

I just checked in this morning to see how everyone was doing.

Lisa - I just read your news. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss :grouphug:

Rhonda - :tinker: and prayers are headed your way. I hope that your father is resting comfortably and I pray for both his recovery and for strength for you and your family during this difficult time.

I will try to check back in later to post to everyone else

Thank you everyone so very much for your prayers and thoughts and kind words. It helps more than you know and my whole family is very appreciative. My dad is in a somewhat stable state right now although the overall prognosis is still not good. We are of course hoping and praying for the best but we can only take it on an hour-by-hour basis at this point. I will try to check in when I have a minute and can get on the ICU waiting room computer (that's where I am posting now).

Lisa - I am so sorry for your loss and I will say a prayer for you and your family. :grouphug:

Thank you all again and I hope to report back with better news soon!

Hi, everyone! I just wanted to let you know I spoke with Rhonda last night and she is so grateful for the prayers and good wishes. She doesn't have a laptop with her at the hospital but hopes to be able to check in soon.

The server was either busy or lazy last night because my ability to post was sporadic. I am so happy to be back on a training plan. I am much better with lists and commitments on a calendar, so having made up a training calendar really is helping me to get focused and stay focused. It also helps that I have my new lime green WISH journal (from Sunny's website) to journal in. I keep it on my desk and on the kitchen island when I am home. It helps me to stay focused.

Howard and I went to the gym last night after my business cocktail party. I did 30 minutes at 4.0 mph (2.03 miles) and then did my speed/form sprint intervals. I was so excited and stunned to realize I could put the sprint speed up to 6.0 mph and actually maintain that pace for 30 seconds at a burst! So it was 4 intervals of 1 min walking/30 seconds sprinting. Even the walking speed had to be bumped up because it seemed so slow. It was 4.3. I ended up doing .47 miles which was a pace of 12:52 for that 4 interval (6 minute) period of time. I remember when I struggled to put that sprint speed at 5.0 mph and then ultimately 5.4. Hard to believe I could have improved to 6.0 mph.

I have to do 30 minute xt tonight which will be hard since Howard and DS are leaving for a week tomorrow morning. And tomorrow morning the plan calls for 2 miles. I'm not too intimidated by that now that I did it last night. I may even go to the gym to do it so that I can kick up the speed on the TM and get it done in less than 30 minutes. Then again, if it's a gorgeous day like today, I will be dying to get outside before having to come into work for the rest of the day.

So, does anyone have a race this weekend?

Rhonda -- The server wouldn't let me post earlier, so my post is a bit outdated, but I am so glad to see you here, sweetie. Sending  and pixiedust:

It amazes me how we, as complete strangers, gain so much strength from each other. This is truly a wonderful group. :sunny:

Colleen

So well said, Colleen

Lisa-- I am so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you are feeling alittle better and your health isn't at jeopardy.

Rhonda-- I am so sorry for what your family is going through. Prayers and PD are on the way.

Lynnda-- Yes I did it freehand. I wasn't real happy with the lines and then I was very unhappy with the food color bleed, but what can you do?

MelR- No that's the "Big" rock wall at the Y, we do the "baby" rock wall (for now).

Well Wed night and most of yesterday was very painful so I didn't go to the Y yesterday. I feel better today, but I know Paul would kill me if I jumped in the car and headed out :sad2: So another rest day. :furious:

Today is my WISH Racing Team 1 year anniversay! Here is my original post:

Note: I finished in 4:35 and I did a Fall Half (Applefest) so things went pretty much as I had hoped. Too bad I didn't plan through June '06, maybe I'd be in better shape now!

June 16, 2005

Hi Everyone

I finally took the plunge. I just signed up for the full marathon! I was registered for the half last year and then family troubles made it impossible for me to go. So I'm a little hesitant to get excited yet...

My stats:
As of right now I am running approximately 30 miles per week with my longest endurance run being 14 miles so far (138 minutes). My long distance pace is stuck just under 10:00. My short distance pace (5K) is 8:35. I'm hoping to run the WDW marathon sub 4:30 providing I'm not stuck too much in crowds.

I'm so excited to join you all

I'm really hoping to run a half or whole marathon this Fall. I am having vein stripping done on both legs the end of July. I sure hope that doesn't set my training back too much.

Thanks for listening to me babble

Sunny

Good morning all! T.G.I.F. for REAL!

Well, today started very early. I had to take one of our new bunnies, Roger, to the vet for a little "operation" because we don't want to have many more little bunnies. I felt so awful leaving him there. :sad1: Poor baby. So I had to get up at 4:00 to get on the TM by 4:15. I actually love that time of the morning in June. It's already getting light out and the weather is just perfect today! So I did 45 @ 3.8 @ 1% and ran for just 2 min @ 4.5. I'm taking it a little easier on the running because I think I over do it with my knees.

However, if I LOST 40 pounds I'm sure my knees won't bother me so much. I tried very hard to stay on Cam's 100 Days but failed miserably. :sad2: I REALLY need to get my weight down before I have to start seriously training. Somebody kick my bootie please! It won't be hard to miss.

Mel - You're a funny girl! :lmao: "Bronco" can refer to a horse of either sex, but it is generally used for boys because, well......the horses used in rodeos are boys because to get them to buck like that they tie a strap around their......."manly parts" and pull it TIGHT right before they go out. We'd all buck like that if our reproductive organs were in a noose. I hate rodeos. I really do. :furious: But anyway, let me think of some sort of name for your bike. Perhaps you should start addressing it as "Madam" and "Yes, mam". Maybe it won't throw you so much! :teeth:

Lisa - I'm glad today is a bit better for you. Here's to a bright future, whatever it might hold. :flower3:

Mel - I don't think that's such a bad picture. If you weren't vertical I'd say you were in the throws of passion, judging by that expression. :rotfl:

Rhonda - :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug: :grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug: :wizard:

Thank you all for sharing your MIL stories. My MIL saga continues, but I'll spare you all. Just know that we leave for Tuscany a month from yesterday and I plan on calling Air Italia and asking them if they serve Chianti on the plane.

Dave & Carrie - I'm all paid up! I can't wait to get my packages! :yay:

Dave - You didn't ask me, but I'll tell you what I think....I have a motorcycle. I would NEVER get on it without a helmet. I don't get on my horse without one either. But quite frankly, anyone STOOPID enough to get on a motorcycle without a helmet doesn't have a head worth saving! Stupid stupid move.... Thank for asking about the toe. Actually, unless I bang on it something - which of course I do regularly - it doesn't even hurt. And while we are on the subject of my maladies, my eyes are completely fine too! :thumbsup2 Yes I have been training. Thanks for asking.

Cam - I never sent you back an email but I really wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the pictures. :goodvibes What a great looking family you have! Was that your house? It's very very nice! Wow! You were totally booking on the TM! :cheer2: OMG I could not keep up with you!

Sunny - Oh that's so cute that you still have your first post! :teeth: I don't even know how to go about finding mine. Maybe I'll try because I'd love to see what I said when I decided to do this. I think I blamed, I mean thanked Cam for getting me started. (Just messing with you Cam! You know I am SO grateful for you getting me started on this! ::yes:: )

Where's Kevin today??? :confused3

OK, off to try to look like I care about my job today.... :rolleyes1

Mel - I don't think that's such a bad picture. If you weren't vertical I'd say you were in the throws of passion, judging by that expression.

I takes A LOT to make me blush, but that did it!!!! OK, now i've thought of several racy comebacks but i'm too embarrassed to actually post any ;-)

Oh Mel! I'm sorry I made you blush like that. I was just trying to be my usual witty, charming self! Guess it didn't work this time.

You guys are totally cracking me up! Thank you so much! I really needed it. The thought of a week without Howard and Andy and trying to plan and set up for Jenn's party by myself is a bit overwhelming.

Hey, can you guys believe I left a very nice cocktail party with totally awesome food last night because I "needed" to go to the gym? I was actually craving it. Remind me of that on the days when I have to drag myself there.

Judy-- I am glad if something I said or did brought you to this group. You are a gift to all of us! :lovestruc

Well Dr. CouldCareLess just ordered me an MRI for 10PM tonight in Cambridge (20 miles away versus Lahey Clinic 1 mile). So glad I switched drs. :sad2:

Judy, last year as the marathon was rapidly approaching I decided to go back and copy and paste all my major posts to create a journal. Dummy me, only recorded time, distance, pace, weather conditions, etc. in a log and forgot to keep a real journal, so my WISH posts became my training journal. It was pretty easy to do thanks to Mel's ending link on each thread. I was thrilled to discover that copying and pasting into Word kept the clippies intact. (See my collection at www.livinglively.com under training journal). I highly recommend doing it as a keepsake. I tried to figure out a quick and easy way to save the whole threads but came up empty handed. Maybe I'll revisit that idea...

and ya, where's Speedy????

Sunny

Speedy's probably at the beach! It's beautiful heer. SUnnny. High in the 80s.... :teeth:

I'm stucj at work 'til 5 when I travel cross-state to the ILs. I live in a beautiful area, wish I was here enough to enjoy it!

Have a great weekend everyone and

Happy Father's Day! To you dads out there!

Ps - Thanks Dave! I'm doing the happy days my socks are coming dance!!!

Wait, are you trying to say your in-laws don't live in a beautiful area of Michigan? I remember running through some nice neighborhoods in Flint for the CRIM 10 years ago. Wait, maybe that was 1 nice neighborhood.

Carrie - your socks should be arriving soon. You were the first to pay - again, even before I had finished sending messages out to everyone - and I'm hoping your socks arrive on Saturday. But, alas, it sounds like you won't be there to receive them.

I'm going to the in-laws too for Father's Day weekend. I won't be able to post or mail socks until I get back on Sunday night.

10PM??? That stinks.

But on the bright side - I went thru heck with Lahey in the 90s. So maybe going to another hospital would be better. In my case, the tests they did during a one year time were done wrong, and done in outdated ways. (does that make sense?) Once I got to Beth Israel sometime after that fiasco, they had to re-do some pretty miserable tests. I dealt with the gastro dept., so I know it's different. I am just trying to make you feel better about going to another hospital! :grouphug:
