Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

4 hot, drippy miles for me this morning. I finished week 6 of C25K yesterday which was a 25 min run with noooo walking.

Tracy...I hear ya! Training for CDC last summer was the pits. It's really nice to be lazy this summer. I've been doing all my short runs on the TM and only venturing out for LR on Sat.

Jackie...I don't think I've ever been accused of looking fresh after a run. The WT frequently tells me I smell bad though :scared:

I'm looking into getting a hybrid bike. Anyone with suggestions?

Oh...and a favor. I will be away on vacation July 18-28. Is anyone available those two weekends to start the threads? TIA!

Whew Mel I hear you on the drippy miles! I can literally wring my shirt out after I go running these days.

And as for these days--I've been missing my WISH pals! I was at home for a month with super slow dialup and I'm finally back at school (high speed!).

On the 4th I went on a 14 miler, but I didn't get started until about 9 am...I ended up having to take a long breather at the 12 mile water fountain and dump water over my head. I still ended up feeling nauseous though. booo on overheating. Yesterday, I had a riding lesson, the first in a month. Whew it was hot (but fun!). And I used the apt pool to cool down ahhhhh. I'm going to try and scan back over last week to see what I missed before I head out for a short run.

Happy running!

Good Morning TEAM, I trust everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!

Claire - Congratulations on making 14 miles in the heat, way to go:goodvibes

I wasn't so lucky yesterday in my Leadville Heavy Half. I finished the race, but wasn't able to reach the summit of 13,185k feet, I was about 1.5 miles shy of it. I bawled like a baby all the way down the mountain because I was so mad at myself for not reaching the top. They tried to give me a medal anyway, but I refused to accept it...I didn't deserve it.

It was my own fault because I completed a half the Saturday before Leadville's race. Oh well, live and learn.

NEXT YEAR I'M GOING BACK AND WILL EARN MY MEDAL!

OK All you Dripping people, I was a soaking dripping mess after my 9 miles (does this sounds like I am repeating myself) - ugh:scared: and that is a smiley with sweat spilling of of it!!
I got out about 6:25am and I think that wasn't early enough!! At mile 7.80 I start to poop out and the last mile was not so great. I had water with me and took a cliffshot, but I was just pooped out and slow walked about .60 of the last mile. I know I am a racewalker and I went from a normal pace of about 14:30 to a avg pace of about 20. When I made it home and was in the kitchen I felt a bit dizzy. I got a COLD glass of water and then went in the pool and just floated around. As I was floating around dark gray clouds started coming in my area. I did alittle stretching in the pool. Got in the shower and then took my ice bath. While sitting in the tub I heard it raining outside. Now just sitting here after my breakfast and icing my hammies near my knees.
Not sure if I am looking forward to my 10 miles next week. I think also by doing a walk on Thurday, a 5K Race on Friday and then walking yesterday, and then doing 9 today just wasn't a good idea. I think I will walk my short miles Tues., Thurs., and Friday then take Saturday off before my Long Walks on Sunday. The summer is just calling for a definate off day before my LW!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, all about me.
Hope everyone is enjoying there holiday weekend.

Hey all! I am new to this thread but not ne wto WISH. Somehow, I have either missed this one or felt like I shouldn't post here. (From the movie Wayne's World: "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!):rotfl:

I am in training to do the 5k and the half in '09. On Thursday, I did my first 10 miler ever at a very slow speed. I started off good averaging about 14-15 minutes a mile and then in the middle, slowed down to be able to go the distance. Then, around mile 7, I picked it up a little bit just to see if I still had a little left in the reserve tank. I did have plenty of water with me (Which got hot really quick!) and around mile 6 I took a Cytosport gel packet.

I guess questions would be:
1) How many times do I need to do 10 miles before I add more speed to my routine without dying out there? (Just kidding about the dying part.)
2) Should I stay at this distance for a couple of weeks before going up to 11-12 mile distances?

Thanks for any advice. I am a novice totally to this type of training. I had never considered doing a race until this year and now, it is all I can think about.

Bryan

Monte, you are still a hero to me. Next year you will earn that medal.

Yep we are in the drippy hot season here in Ky also. I go out and get it done in the heat. I sweat a lot and have often done races or training walks with a continous stream of sweat coming off the bill of my tech ball cap.

Erica is not as heat tollerent (sp) as I am so she has problems with it. We go out early and try to get done before it gets to hot. She fusses at me for not drinking till we are done but I train that way. I don't take water in a race shorter than a half marathon. When I'm training if we are going over 10 miles I'll have an occassional drink if we come to a fountian.

I lived in Vegas for 9 years and in Okinawa for 5 years and Louisana for 4 years so I'm used to heat and running in it. Although I don't run anymore the heat tollerance from all those years running in hot climates still helps.

Tracy there is no telling what the Marathon weather will be come January, we have seen it 28 degrees and last january it was what over 90?

Well time for me to stop rambling and get ready for work.

Have a great day y'all.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Thanks Panda, I did the Jan Half this year and last year, which everyone said that both were warm. I didn't really have a problem with it at either event. I don't do my "training" for January until 16 weeks before. I am trying to get through the traning for the DL 1/2 which will probably be very warm but very low humidity. I have lived in South Florida for all my life. I was in Marching Band in High School and College, so marching and being at football games in wool type uniforms in the middle of the afternoon was no picnic, but I survived that also.
This is just my first time training for a half in the summer. I usually start at the beginning of September and at that point the miles are shorter.
Just have to remind myself to get out there earlier and to take it just a bit easier on myself for being a bit slower.
I actually my get to use my sister's Treadmill that she just got and they put it in their garage. They have a TV and a radio to keep you company, so that may help so I'm not out in the sun and heat.

Racey Tracy

Monte - sorry the race didn't go as you hoped. But you still did great.

Bryan - Welcome! Don't worry - everyone is worthy to post here. We're all her to provide advice, support encouragement and the occassional kick in the rear.

Tracy - great job on you 9.

I did an hour of "Tour de Living Room" today. (For those who missed yesterday's post, it's my version of spinning while watching the Tour de France. (termed coined by Kristi :thumbsup2 ) The Tour riders completed slightlt over 32 miles in the hour I rode with them. No way I ride as fast as them, but if I rode 1/2 as fast, then I did about 16 miles. That would be good, since my race this weekend includes a 17 mile ride.

Wait a minute..... I thought I came up with the "Tour de Living Room."????

Posts: 672 Jen: Sorry about your hammie hurting. SOunds like you all had a nice picnic and hike.

Jackie: When I get done with a race, especially a half, my face is also BEET red. Being a red head and freckles, it's not pretty and the heat coming off my skin is pretty bad. People always ask me if I'm o.k. Its gets kinda commical. I was soaked today from head to toe. I had sweat dripping off my scalp and legs - ugh!!

Terri: Nice XT that you have planned. Good luck with your own Tour de Living Room.

Hmmmmm, maybe??:confused3

Its ok.

Have a great day!!

Hey WISHers,

Good going on the miles.

We're back from our overnight camping/fishing on the North Shore. I only caught an eel, and no fish.

The night sky was filled with millions of stars, and a great view of the Milky Way. As always, it was a great way to spend a dark moonless evening, staring into space and wondering what or who else is out there looking at us? LOL, we had some interesting discussions on that subject.

Had a great time with all the kids and fellow dads, 12 of us all together hanging out on the shore.

Sorry, but I forgot to grab the camera to show you all what it looks like. We're going back at the end of the month, so I'll try to remember to bring it then.

Good afternoon WISHers!

Hoping everyone is having a great Sunday.

5 miles on the TM this morning while watching the Hogan’s Heroes marathon on TVLand. I love Hogan’s Heroes!

Jeff – Glad you had a good time at the North Shore.

Tracy – WTG with the 9 miler! Take care of yourself in this heat.

WWDave – have fun at work.

Bryan - :welcome:

Monica – Remember, DNF >> DNS

Terri – WTG with the “Tour de Living Room!”

Claire – WTG with the 14 miler!

Mel – WTG with the drippy 4 miler!

:)

Hi team...

Well....I am back from the beach with the kids and now preparing myself for my fitness conference in hot vegas. I did manage to keep up with training while away...it was nice to focus on my own workouts as opposed to teaching. So I got 3 runs in the books a 7 miler; a 4 miler and a 4.5 miler. I also rode the bike twice into some pretty strong head-winds for a total of 22 miles. The best part was 4 days of yoga :) and one day of pilates taught by other people! :thumbsup2 So it was a healthy vacation...training is on track and I drug my exhausted butt out the door this morning for a 6.2 mile HILLY run at a steady 9:56 mpm. My pace has dropped a lot since adding the galloway run/walk method back into my training HOWEVER my legs are much happier and with all the classes I teach and spinning I do as a result, it's probably a safer place for me to be in terms of pace.

Vic: Nice work on the 5 miles! :thumbsup2

Jeff: Wow...sounds like an amazing time. Would love to see the stars like that!! :goodvibes

Terri: VERY COOL about the tour de living room! I was itching to get on the bike today but trudged through a run instead LOL!

Racey Tracy: love the moniker LOL! Way to go getting out there for 9 in those conditions. Crazy...but impressive LOL! :)

Mel: Have a great vacation

Everyone else...sorry I didn't read last weeks' thread yet but I want to say "howdy" to everyone. I'll be off most of this week since my fitness conference and other LV activities will have me quite busy. Hope everyone has a great week ahead!

Hi All.....major MIA!!!

Hot, hot,hot here also. Got 9K in this morning before it got wayyy to hot then hit the cold pool, very refreshing!!!

Sorry Tracy - it was you who came up with "Tour de Living Room". I was going off memory instead of looking back at the thread. I though exercise was supposed to enhance my memory :rotfl:

Terri

Good morning and happy post-4th everyone.

I hear you all on the drippy mess. I made 8 yesterday but I had to call for an Accelerade on the road. The pit crew arrived (DD13 and DS6 on the 4-wheeler) and saved my life. I was a drippy mess that turned quickly to a crusty wet soggy mess!!

I am very heat intolerant (hence the run yesterday) but I did not think the January half this year was that bad. I think it is because I finished early enough before the real heat came on. It was also my first half and I was VERY excited so maybe I just did not notice!

AmyBeth: Glad you had some fun at the beach. Can't wait to hear what wisdom you pick up at the conference. Have fun in Vegas baby!

Mel: I just bought a Jamis Allegro 1.0 hybrid and I really like the bike. It shifts really easy and the aluminum frame is sweet to say the least. I am getting faster and faster on it the more I ride. Good luck in the bike search!

Monica:  Don't beat yourself up too much. Remember the goals you HAVE accomplished and turn this into a positive. It sounds like you have the right attitude already.

Everyone else: A big WISH hi!!! I hope everyone had a great 4th and got in their steps too. It is hard to keep motivated when surrounded by such food and drink. Hmm, that must be why I have a hard time during Food and Wine???!!!! :confused3 :rolleyes1

Today is another hot one in Maine and we have about 1000 bales of hay to get into the barn this afternoon. I really dislike haying. It is a good workout though and replaces my XT and gym day today so I will just have to go with the positive as I said before. Today starts my training for my August 10K!!!! Best of days everyone!!! :cool2:

Thanks for all the encouraging words, that's why I love this TEAM

As I said I'm going to do this race next year because I just can't retire it without reaching my goal. Next goal is Virginia Beach Rock-n-Roll half marathon the end of Aug. The only thing that I'm worried about is the heat and humidity in Va. Since living in the Rockies for so many years we tend to forget about the humidity. I'm arriving a few days before the marathon so hopefully I can adjust to it.

Thanks again friends!:hippie:

Monte: I have always wanted to do the Virginia Beach RnR 1/2 but it fells on Labour Day weekend and DH thinks it will be crazy trying to travel. Hopefully I will get there one year.

Can you all believe we are just over 6 months away from Marathon weekend!!!! Look forward to seeing everyone again.

Hello, WISH teammates!

Hope everyone had a safe, happy holiday weekend. I had a wedding on Friday, my family party on Saturday (I baked 22 pounds of barbecue chicken Friday morning for the party!), and a day of recovery yesterday.

I really need to get on top of my workouts. Without a specific event to train for, I'm lacking motivation to keep up with it. Kudos for every who has been getting their steps in.

I'll be back later to comment on everyone's posts.

Shout out to my peeps! Hi, Racey Tracey, Liz, Maura, and anyone else who had noticed I was missing! I'm back!

Duckie

Kim, a group of us are planning on VA Beach RNR 2009.......Cruella de mom, CreativeBeth, and others......
