Wk of July 29--WISH Walking/Running Club

Angie

Bless you for fighting the flat tire in the rain. Yes, AAA is a cheap deal when stuff like that happens.

And great about Bobby getting out on the roads. Congratulations. That must make the whole family smile.

WWDave

That was a nice note and gesture. Who know what the outcome will be? If something happens I'll need to get a shirt from Carrie.

I ran the mile again at tonight's track meet.

The coolest part was a gentleman who was OVER 90 :thumbsup2 who participated in 3 events tonight, the 1500, the 400, and the 200. He finished the 1500 in about 12 minutes, started easy and really came on at the end. When he finished I'd guess 200 people were at the finish giving him well deserved applause. If I see 90 I'd sure like to be out there still doing what I can.

They didn't have a mile this evening, so I entered the last event, the 10,000, and ran a timed mile. I started 9 meters behind the field, just to give them a head start  , and we went off. I ran the first 1/4 in 1:47, and was doing fine, until at 550 meter I got lapped. No joke, I had run 550 meters, and he had run 950 meters. Humbling, this running stuff is.

I hit the half in 3:40, 3/4 in 5:29, and crossed the mile in 7:19. I had done 7:23 2 weeks ago, so I was able to find 4 seconds out there. I was and am pretty pleased with the effort, and don't thinkI could have gone much faster tonight. I'm almost there with the altitude, even tempo runs are just fine, but tonight every muscle in my body was tingling from lack of oxygen.

Once I get home I'll try this at sea level. Hopefully it will be faster, and less painful, at the same time.

And I'm off to the airport to pick up my bride. Gotta go.

Wow that''ll serve me right for not coming on here Monday - just read all 182 posts. Can't remember anything except there are sick furbaby's out there so I hope they are all okay - mind you I just came off another forum for Brits abroad and one of their dogs had just eaten it's own tail (which I do admit made me laugh -it's okay so I didn't feel too guilty!!!!).

I have my first Australian cold - which last a lot longer than British or Kiwi ones I'd had it for three days now and my colds only normally last 24 hours - I'm doing a 14km event next weekend and they say 'anyone who is sick in the two weeks before hand should not take part' - there's 60,000 people doing this thing and most of Sydney is sneezing, I think that's one 'rule' I and a few other are going to be breaking. I'm planning on wearing my WISH shirt so people can spot me - who is going to spot me I have no idea but someone might, it's on the tele here.

Not much else to report here, did two 30 minute runs this week and I'll get out twice over the weekend. I'm taking it nice and easy until training proper starts - agggg, only 27 days to go until that happens, I'm nervous. Helen

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Well I didn't run my 5K x-country race last night. It was 96 degrees at 5:00p when I came home. The thermometer in our van that measures the outside temperature even said 100 degrees. So, I'm waking up and fueling up for a run this morning.

I have to post though to the bargain hunters on our team. I heard on the budget board that Target was having 75% off a lot of toys. I did some shopping cross training before going home from work. I left work and busted my hump to the Target toy section. I picked up a lot of toys that I'm going to put away for the princesses, DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess:, for Christmas and birthdays. I even picked up a couple of toys for DW's upcoming birthday (her big present is the cruise). Here's what I got:

Alice in Wonderland/Queen of Hearts dress up set
Easy Bake Oven cooking set
Flying Polly Pocket
Winnie the Pooh Aquadoodle stamper
2- My Little Ponys
2- Barbie Fairytopia dolls
Play Doh mat
Magnetix
Magic Paint set
Barbie Story Diary
Barbie Swimming Mermaid
Kuuduk Card game (for DW)
Plug-n-Play handheld Jeopardy game (for DW)

Grand Total: $48.23   My total would have been $192.92. Whoo hooo!!! Nothing beats a bargain.

OK, I should do this run thing.

Angie - oh dear, what a night. You are a much stronger woman than I. I would have collapsed! wtg getting through that evening.

Dave - holy cow what a deal. Love a bargain. I guess I need to go to target today. I needed paper products anyway.

I am up to head out for 1 hour yoga this am.
Have a great day,
Maggie

Just want to wish you lots of pixie dust :wizard: to get over the cold and more :wizard: and good luck in the 14K next weekend. Wow that is alot of people!! That is so cool - the WISH team being represented in Australia. :woohoo:

Good Morning

Just wanted to report that my dashboard is working fine now :confused3 Maybe it was all that rain I drove through yesterday, or maybe God knew I was near the breaking point this morning. :lmao:

Made it to work safe and sound and will definately be having a few margaritas (even if they are 450 calories a piece  ) at happy hour tonight.

Have a good day everyone

Still working out a consistant training program, but thought I'd share this little joke. I hope to never hear this from my wife (although it would probably be deserved).

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table.

My wife asks, "Do you know her?"

"Yes," I sighed, "She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since."

"My Goodness!" says my wife, "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?"

Angie:grouphug: Sounds like your day is starting off better today.

Dave--Thanks for your efforts to get us a WISH day at the parks.
It will be interesting to see the response.

SWDave--A man that is a bargain shopper, very impressive.

Helen---Hope your cold gets better. Good luck with your race.

Tricia--Congratulations on post 1000.

Kim---Good luck with your 14K walk in the heat.

Craig---Great job in all your events.

CreativeBeth---Did you make it to pump class last night? I decide to give my knee a rest.

Jeanne--Are you planning on doing a LW this weekend? If so drink alot and try to stay cool.

I am so impressed with everyone that is outside doing their training in all this heat. After I did my 10 mile LW in the heat last Sat, I was so wiped out for the rest of the day that I was non functional. So have stayed inside to do all my training in the AC. I can say I will get up real early tomorrow to do my LW outside, but I know that won't happen. So more than likely will do the TM in the AC.

Stay cool everyone.

Nancy

Morning team. Got my 7 miles in yesterday on the TM--around a 9:00/mile pace. Oh, and I got my new brooks Adrenaline 7s and tried them out yesterday--Love them! And what a deal through runningwarehouse--Thanks Mel for getting us the team discount! Gonna do 3 miles speedwork today and then head to Target for some xt (thanks Dave for posting about the toy sale)

Okay, better go get ready for the gym! Have a Happy Friday all! TGIF!

MSDave - I was just on the Budget board and was coming here to reprimand you for not informing the WISHers about the Target clearance! :rotfl: I have a script to pick up at Target on the way home....might as well do some toy shopping xt while I am there, right? ;)

Good morning WISH Team.

Today is a rest day for me. Yesterday was slower and harder than it should have been so that means a rest day. Mondays 9 miler and tues' 6 miler are probably to blame for the tired feeling yesterday.

One of the things I have learned about being over 50 is to listen to my body when it asks for rest. The days of workouts in the morning and again in the evening are no longer a good idea.

Tomorrow is speed training at the track, this will be the first since the Senior Games.

Have an awesome day everyone.

Dave:hippie:

Hey! Check me out! I have on TWO shoes today! :thumbsup2 Whooo hoooo! :woohoo:

Judy-- Oh sweetie, you'll rock at ToT. You have so much spunk it should be bottled!
Oh Sunny! HA HA HA! If you only knew how tired I am today...and pretty much every day, come to think of it. But thanks! I can't believe they aren't making you a priority and getting you in there like today! And I fail to see the issue in your "selective"-ness. Run? Yes. Cook? No. Clean? No. Shop? Yes. Sounds right to me. ;)

Angie
-. Please get a AAA membership. You'd still have that sweater if you did.

MSDave
- WOW! What a deal you got! Excellent! :thumbsup2

Bill - :rotfl2:

Uh oh. I just found out my entire department did not get their direct deposit paychecks. I have to go resolve this before they show up at my door with pitchforks and flames. :scared:

Morning, all! Just a quick drive-by; my house is being torn apart as both kids had sleep-overs last night and I'm greatly outnumbered.

Angie - I can't believe your sad story! So glad it was better this morning.
MSDave - Gone are the days I can shop in the toy aisle -- now it's the electronics aisle which is a bit pricier!
Tricia - WOO HOOTY on reaching 1000 posts!!

I should be cross training today; we'll see if that happens. Does shopping for school supplies on the tax free weekend count? Tomorrow is a LR of 8 miles and I've already got it mapped out.

Happy training, all! :)

Hi everyone! I'm new to the boards (just wrote up my little introduction over on the main page- can't link yet because I don't have enough posts!)

Anyway....I bit the bullet and just signed up for the Mickey a few minutes ago!!! :woohoo: :scared1: I am so excited but super-nervous, too.

I have been running 10-18 miles per week for the past several months, and recently decided to kick things up a notch in preparation for the ToT13K. This morning I did 8.25 miles at around 11-12 min/mi (it started out as a shorter prep for the 13k, but then I got so into it that I just wanted to keep going). I have a long way to go still to build up stamina (and hopefully get faster), as well as learn how to pace myself on the road when I don't have a treadmill doing it for me (I run outside a lot, but haven't been keeping track of my pace at all, so I'm probably reeeeally slow). I look forward to getting lots of great tips from y'all, and getting to know you too! :)

Welcome Moon. You are already way ahead of a lot of folks on here so you ain't slow at all. The ToT is 8 miles so that should be a breeze or you.

Good Morning all!!

I must apologize for going missing these past several weeks. (Okay, all of July...) A few weeks back I started a new job which requires a 30 commute each way and some crazy hours at the start, so I haven't had much time to post. Turns out that bartending at a resort town restaurant is quite lucrative and good for leg strengthening, with all those hours on my feet. I have done my best to keep up with reading the boards, though. I know we had a Goo Goo encounter/stalking, some new folks join up ( :welcome: Beth and Moon), some long distance husband and wife home repairs issues, a Target clearance sale, some pet issues :guilty: , and Judy. Am I about caught up?? :teeth:

Anyhow, my training has completely hit the fan lately. I can honestly say that I haven't gotten out there in about 3 weeks. :sad2: I need to figure out what's going on with my motivation lately. While I'm totally committed to Goofy yet, I'm starting to question running Waterfront this year, since I feel totally behind the 8-ball at this point. I'm going to get out there tomorrow for my regularly scheduled LR and then go from there. (The "come to Jesus run", if you will). If it goes well, I'll keep on to next week on the Waterfront plan (and a REALLY long LR) and if not, I'll defer Waterfront til next year and start getting ready for "Real" Goofy training that starts in a few weeks.

Busy weekend ahead for me. Heading out to the Coast Guard Festival fireworks/brush fire tomorrow night and a major research paper and final exam Monday to complete and study for. And of course my run. :thumbsup2

Off to re-read the thread to see if I missed anything...
Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:

Kevin.....welcome back......only 58 more sleeps till the Scotia Marathon!!!!

I am really looking forward to it.

Kim
