Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Decent run today, though I don't know exactly how far or how fast due to a little Garmin problem. Guesstimate is 8.2 miles in 1:47 for a 13mpm pace. The first 4 miles were sub-12s...haven't seen any of those in awhile! I actually got out later this morning to let some of the humidity burn off before going out, discovered that a bagel instead of a Marathon bar prevents my 3 mile side stitch and think I may be adjusting to the extra 3lbs with the double water pack.

:welcome: SeeDisney!

:welcome: CreativeBeth!

Carrie...congrats on the new job! I'm sooo happy for you

Cam and Howard...welcome back! Glad you liked POFQ...that's a great place to run!

Colleen...great pace on your run!

Jackie...congrats on your 15 miler! Hope DD heals quickly!

Lily...:wizard: for your puppy!

Renee...did you find some cool new shoes?

Angie...if you check the website sticky, there's a few sites on there for kids running.

Christa...great run! Say hi to Bree for us!

Tricia...congrats on signing up for TOT!

Speaking of which, we may be out for TOT. DD14 got her band schedule and there's a competition that weekend

Wow Mel - that is a great time on the 8 miles. I did my 5k race today and was pleased with the results - 34:4(something) don't have the official time yet but hopefully I will by tomorrow. I am thinking of doing a long walk on the treadmill tomorrow just to get milage in - especially since I got so many miles in this week (17) and I don't feel bad at all. No shin splints, no tight calves, no blisters, no sore legs!!!!! YEAH!!! We shall see what tomorrow brings. I am planning on having a nice breakfast and then maybe hoping on the treadmill but I am not going to push myself or make myself do it first thing in the AM.

Way to go Mel on a great run today!

Great job Tricia and WWDave on your 5Ks! :cool1: Looking good Dave, and wahoo for not being last this year! ;)

I got in my 2 miles today. Tomorrow I will do 4 in my back-to-back Goofy training.

Great pic, Dave!

Leana
- I would have loved to see Nickelback, and Daughtry too! Sadly, my funds have all been diverted (and then some) to another band.... :rotfl2:

Tricia - you can be crazy like me, is ok! We will have to figure a way for you to have a m&g with him though... :scratchin

No training to report....unless driving home from AC, being stuck at a dead stop in CT for 2 hours for a bad accident, and then right to Boston to see The Police counts as something....

SO, without further ado - here's the latest.
We'll call this "do not have a couple cocktails right before meeting your 'boyfriend' - you will close your eyes like a darn fool!" :rotfl:
Borgata_mg_emailsize.jpg

I did learn that Mike (drummer / ultra runner, on the left) hasn't run in 7 months! He hurt his foot. :sad2:

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I had a great LR yesterday. It was a great morning to run - not too hot yet. I did 10 miles in 1:37.32 min for a 9:44 mpm pace. OK, here's the best part. I did negative splits!!! I went out really easy, intentionally trying to slow down and I was running 10 min miles. The first 5 miles I ran in 51:15 min for 10:15 mpm. Not too bad, especially since I walked 1 min at mile 4 to eat my GU. I was feeling good at mile 5, so I decided to pick up the pace a little. Just to shorten and quicken my stride to see if I could go a little faster. The last 5 miles were in 46:15 min for 9:15 mpm, and I still walked for 1 min at mile 8 to eat a GU. But get this split for my last mile: Mile 10 - 8:02 min!!! I was really trying to move it on to finish strong on the last mile, but I didn't know I was running an 8 min mile. I felt great! I took a nice cold soak in the bath tub afterwards, and I'm not too sore at all. So all and all I had a really good week of training, and ended up running 27 miles last week.

OK, I'm going to post another reply to catch up with everyone.

Good Morning Again TEAM: :surfweb:

Thanks everyone for their support as a comtemplate registering for the marathon. I need to talk to DW again and let her know my plan to just go ahead and register, but if I can't make the trip then so be it. I'm trying to keep everything up front with her this year instead of the secret it was last year.

Colleen- Wow, awesome job on your 14 miler! I'm so glad you had a good run. 9:44 mpm pace for 14 miles, that is awesome!!! Sounds like your MCM training is going really well.

Jen- Do you get Runner's World? In the issue I got yesterday on page 135 they have the "Prize Patrol: Awards Worth Bonking For". The race was the Rump Roast 10K/5K in Minoqua, Wisconsin. Where the winner receives a 20 lb rump roast. You ran that 5K last year didn't you?

Cam and Howard- Welcome back from your Disney cruise. Oooh, I want to hear details. I'm so excited for our cruise at the end of the month. I'm very proud of you guys for getting your runs in while on vacation. I actually find I get excited to go run in a new place. Cam- Wow, you put in a 20 mile week while on a cruise!!! That's incredible. Take care of those shin splints. Wow, how did you get in a 12 miler on a TM with shin splints. Ice, ice, baby...

Kristi- Nice picture with your boys. You reminded me the Goo Goo Dolls Darien Lake concert was last night. I'll have to see if there was a review in the paper. So how was the Police concert? No pictures from that one?

WWDave- Great job on your 5K! Thanks for the picture.

Tricia- Congrats on your 5K too! Yay, for no shin splints, soreness, etc...

Mel- WTG on your 8 miler. That's great that you're finding out a bagel works better before your LR. WTG on the sub 12 min miles!

Heather- Nice job on your 2 miles yesterday. Good luck with your 4 today!

Jackie- WTG on your 15 miles yesterday. That's awesome. What are you training for? Oh is it the Raleigh Marathon Renee was talking about? Hope your DD heals up from her skating fall fast.

Lily- What happened to your dog? Hope all is OK.

Renee- WTG on your 7 miler. What kind of shoes did you end up getting?

Kim- Thanks so much for the PM about the cruise planning. I still need to reply to you. I've been having lots of fun planning away. How'd your 10K go?

Anne- Thanks for your support.

Leana- I hope your dog, Maggie, is doing better.

Hello Christa- I'm impressed with your running week. How's the new play going?

Where's Krista and Steve? Krista, are you having trouble recovering from Steve's birthday surprise for you?

Dona- A while back Sunny was talking about getting tyvek running bibs made up with the WISH logo/saying that you could pin to your shirt. You might check in to that.

Sunny- Just thinking of you, and wanted to WISH you good health.

Hello Carrie, I hope Scott is doing OK. All my best.

Hello Judy- How are things in your part of NY?

OK, my apologies to those I missed. I'll be back...

Tricia - you can be crazy like me, is ok! We will have to figure a way for you to have a m&g with him though... :scratchin
Kristi A meet and greet w/ Kenny would be AWESOME!!!! Just hasn't happened yet but I still enjoy his shows!! Wow you really have seen alot of shows lately!! How was the Police? I noticed you got a nice new pic of your "boyfriend" in your sig line!! (that is your boyfriend right?)

WWDave Great picture - glad they are on the ball with your pictures and results - I think they might have partied a little too hard at the bbq party after my race as I am still waiting for my "real" results :rolleyes1 LOL

MSDave Great times on your 10 miler - wow 8 minutes for your last mile - that is AWESOME!!! :woohoo:

Might get on the treadmill later but I am being lazy right now. Hope everyone has a good day. And I just have to say go Kurt Busch and Dale Jr today at Indianapolis!!! :cheer2:

We missed half of The Police - long story. :sad2: But what I saw was very good. I am just not a huge Police fan. I took pics there, but I haven't put them on the computer yet. And yeah, I thought I'd put up a new Goo pic in my siggie. :goodvibes Yes, John is my boyfriend (as well as 5 bazillion other women's 'boyfriend') - but it's all good. Chad knows and understands! I have permission! :rotfl2: Now, to find you a way to meet Kenny.... You would have to bring Cam & Judy too though!

Good morning everyone.

2 miles on the TM to see how my right thigh felt (still have a large knot, but the puncture wound, and bruising are healing nicely). No problems encountered, and the leg felt good.

Have a great Sunday.

Mel - Great job on the 8 miler!
SkyDave - Fantastic work on the 10 miles!
WWDave - Great pic, and great job on the race!
Kristi - You'll have to get Mike to join the DIS-WISH team! We'll send a lot of PD his way for his foot to get him back on the road.
Vic - Good to hear your healing well and your getting back on the TM. :thumbsup2

Day off from training today in preparation for my LR tmorrow and my race yesterday. My legs feel good enough to go out today, but not going to push it.
Happy Training!

Colleen- Wow, awesome job on your 14 miler! I'm so glad you had a good run. 9:44 mpm pace for 14 miles, that is awesome!!! Sounds like your MCM training is going really well.

Hey Dave, yes, I was very happy with my 14 miler, like you, I took it really slow the first few miles and then gradually increased my pace and had negative splits too! The kids were both at sleepovers so DH and I were able to run together, which is so nice. He was very encouraging and reminded me to relax and get let things "flow". That really helped. The frustrating thing is the discrepancy between my 201 Garmin readings and DH's 305 Garmin readings. For the most part, our mile splits were about the same, his usually a few seconds after mine, but there is always one or two miles where one is always short or his is always long. At one point there was a .35 mile discrepancy in our mileage. I assume his is correct being the newer technology. Right now, Sara and I are planning to run a 4:30 at MCM, and according to my Garmin results, I am on track for that, but I am afraid I am relying to much on my mileage from the Garmin. I should really just go out and drive off my routes to find exact mileage.

Kristi, another concert, if that was me, I would have to sleep for a month to recover, afterall, my bedtime is 10 p.m.;)

Mel, great job on your 8 miler! Must feel good to get in those fast miles again.

Tricia, hope you can get on the treadmill later today. When you are finished, you will be glad you did.

Vic, I hope you can work out that knot in your leg. I am glad things are healing.

Dave, great pic! Nice shirt.

Andrew, what kind of mileage are you up to in your LR's?

Guess what, DH informs me he is heading down for a conference at Disney next week. He was asked to present something at the last minute, so guess who is tagging along??? I was busy getting hotel reservations in order. I couldn't get 6 consecutive days at any one resort. So while DH is at his conference we were able to get a 1 bdroom villa at Beach Club :cool1: for three days. He is then flying to Frankfurt from Orlando, so the kids and I are staying at Disney for 3 more days at Coronado Springs.

Does anyone know why the hotels are packed solid, afterall it is the first week of August. Isn't this slow season in the parks??

Colleen

Two words, free... dining...
I don't know, but that's my guess. I'm jealous you get to go down to Disney. Have fun!

Just for fun - this is how an Ironman sleeps the night before the race
P7210180.jpg

She is under the quilt I had my secretary make for Erin's 21st birthday. I found the Stitch fabric on ebay knowing it would be just right for her.

Erin is now a 21 yrold. She had her birthday in Lake Placid. She also had her first drink. They didn't even proof her. I mentioned it to the owner as I know how dangerous it is for the owner of the liquor license. Last night her friends took her to a couple of bars. She had 2 drinks and then switched to coke. She wasn't too intoxicated as I was talking to her at 2 AM. This morning she has decided that bars and drinking aren't all they are cracked up to be. She has the headache and upset stomach of a hangover.

Lynne is officially a 4th year med student and safely in Hawaii playing with the little ones doing a neonatology clinical. She called and left a message at 4am my time that she was waiting for her cab to get out to base. She is using this clinical too fulfill part of her 45 days active duty. Tough duty station.

Until today, i was following the Team in Trianing schedule for the Nike Women's Marathon. We did not recommit as the thought of raising an additional 9000 on top of the 3300 already raised was over-whelming. I walked 11 miles in Lake Placid last weekend and 15 miles with a fellow THTer yesterday. Yesterday was supposed to be 13 but I forgot my garmin and tried to rely on the mile markers on the trail. Didn't do very good of a job finding the mile markers. Looked at the map and fould out how far we had gone. That gave me 22 miles for last week.

I am planning on taking it easy this week and then jumping into a training program that has a walk/run segment. I want to train my body to run some without getting so winded I start coughing. I need to lose some weight also so I will finally have time to go back to the gym as the schedule I chose will have more cross training days than TNT did.

MSDave - is the Rochester race walker friendly?

Cam & Howard - welcome back. Hope you had a great relaxing time.

Everyone is doing great. I hope to be able to keep up with this thread at some point

Hello, all! Rest day today for me!

Mel - I'm with you on the bagel for fueling. That's my standard!
Trica - Congrats on your 5K! I'm getting the itch to run one again...
Dave - Your link works! Great photo - love the shirt
Heather - Did you get your 4 in today?
Kristi - Cool photo!
Dave - I'd love to run negative splits! I have a very hard time regulating my pace at the beginning of a long run. I'm working on it!
Vic - Glad the thigh's doing well!
Andrew - Enjoy the rest day
Colleen - I am so jealous!! My DH never gets sent anywhere I want to go!
Kathy - Cute quilt! She look ready to jump up and into the water!

By the way, my new shoes are Brooks Glycerin 5. I'd been running in Brooks Radius the past couple of years but felt the need to upgrade as my mileage increases. I love the way Brooks fit me, so I'm hoping they'll be good for me.

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Mel - Great time on that 8 something miles!!

Tricia - Congrats on that 5k, and no soreness to boot!!

SW Dave - See... you don't need my Dh to hit those 8 minute miles!! Great Job!!

Vic - I can't imagine how it must have felt to get tangled up in that dog fight. I hope your leg is 100% soon.

Well, I got in my 5 miles yesterday morning. It took a while to get warmed up but once I did it felt great. My time was 44:12, and here are my splits....

Mile 1: 9:21
Mile 2: 8:51
Mile 3: 9:13
Mile 4: 8:25
Mile 5: 8:03

I was trying to get done by that fifth mile. DS2 called me (thanks to his daddy) to ask me when I was coming home and that he missed me. So I was booking it trying to get to the car ASAP. No training today, it's a rest day (yeah right!)! So my day consists of mowing the lawn, doing laundry, and cleaning the house. Ok, done ranting now.... I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Dana

I"m all done!! I made it thru my first 5K race!! I put up a race report on the race thread!!

I know it was only a 5K, and I never run another race again until Disney!! :rotfl2: DH and fdil want me to do another in Aug!! :scared1:

Congrats Sandy! :woohoo:

I ran 4 miles this morning 10R/1W with an average pace of 11:42 - good for me! I felt like I was crusin, sometimes I really wonder if my Nike+ is not calibrated right and has me going slower than I am? (Wishful thinking I guess!)

It was humid as anything, but I guess all those carbs I ate yesterday gave me some extra energy. :rolleyes1

I also listened to the Inside the Magic podcast and I did fine, I'm so glad I can now handle running and listening to these cause before when I first switched over from walking to running I couldn't - I had to have music.

DH went out and ran 3 miles this morning - the first time in a couple weeks since he hurt his hip. I think he'll be fine for Race for the Taste. :)

Shan, Cam, Howard, or anyone else in the know...could you tell me the prime room location to request for a 1 bedroom villa at BC?

Also, would any WISH DVC owners have any points to rent? DH has another conference in November at Disney and I am thinking ahead?;) On that note, is it possible for a DVC member to rent a villa for someone else at a discounted rate?
