Okay, I am so far behind on this thread, but I just wanted to tell you, Claire, that I am so glad you are okay. Geez, that is so incredibly scary. I can't imagine how frightened you must have been. I can't believe you went in and took a test after that. You are really a trooper. Are you feeling okay? I hope you aren't having headaches. Sending you a huge hug, sweetie. :hug:
 
Mel - NC mountain water is indeed cold. We love to go to Sliding Rock, but the last time we were there I totally wimped out after the first slide down the rock. My aging body just couldn't take the freezing water! And driving in the mountains is an acquired talent - the only reason I did it on our last trip was because the alternative was to let DD17 drive - NOT! :eek: Waiting for the goat story... :rotfl:

- When they said "resume full activity" I'm not sure they were expecting people to go out and run 10-20 miles in a weekend... :lmao: Glad you opted to take it a LITTLE easier than usual!

- When I told DD17 about the Hannah Montana phone calls, her first comment was the same as Tracy's - "Can I get one from Mickey?"

- 115 miles is pretty impressive. I only managed my one day with 19 miles!

Allyson - Great job on the 3 miles. Even better job on just getting out there!

Kristi - How much would you charge to do my cabinets? No, on second thought, I don't think I want anyone to know just how old some of the stuff is! :guilty: Congratulations to Zack!

Betsy - :hug: DH and I are missing the TDF too. We got home tonight and reached for the remote to turn on the DVR, but alas, no TDF! Good luck training for the tri.

Liz - LOVE your self realization. I had the same kind of week going, but not quite as nice a resolution. I did realize that as long as I was talking to people in my group I didn't focus on all the bad stuff, so it was kinda the same...

AFM - Felt MUCH better after Saturday's run. Did weights and Pilates this morning, hoping for 3 miles tomorrow. Supposed to be doing W2D1 of C25K, but based on the temps, may alter that, since I'm trying to do all of that outdoors and I don't know that I want to run outside at 96 degrees! I'm doing all the stretches the massage therapist showed me for the hip flexor - am determined that this weekend's run will be even more improved!

Oh my, how terrible! We are so glad you survived to tell about it :hug: . I take it you now have to go to court to put these girls in prison for assault and robbery. Take care of yourself, and be careful, OKAY???!!!
 

Claire - so scary and so glad you're ok!! Glad the police saw it all and they can get what's coming to them.
 
Claire: OMG!!! Thank the Lord you are OK. I agree that taking the test after that showed your made of some tough stuff!! Hope you take it easy and be careful out there.

Jeff: Aloha, ITS MY DAY OFF TODAY!!!! Just thought you might like to keep up. I don't have another day off from work until August 15th. We are soon to be VERY busy at the Orthodontist office as school will be starting soon and in this area it is a "God Forbid" if you child has to miss school to go to a Doctor's Appointment. Everybody and their parents just "has" to get in before school starts. We will be seeing aprox 140 patients a day in about a week. "This is crazy, this is crazy" quote from National Lampoon's Chevy Chase.:rotfl:

Oh Maura, Maura, what I'm going to do with you?? OK time for the lashings to begin....1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. I think I need to go get another noodle this one has had it. Good for you getting in the time after work!!!! Don't make me do it again!!:)

Jackie & Angie~ Thank you for your kind words and support. I mean it! :hug: As far as running after donating blood, I waited and felt good. Those are the requirements. If I hadn't felt up to it, I wouldn't have forced it.

Today was an XT day for me. I went to the YMCA and cranked out the following:

Cross-trainer (elliptical): 3.1 miles in 24:53
Free Weights: 15 minutes
Stationary bike (non-video this time (it was taken)): 5 miles in 15:15


Then, I came home.... :rolleyes1

I felt really good so I ran some too:

Miles: 3.01
Time: 27:17
Pace: 9:03

Ok Trashy Girl, if we're keeping score, that's three days off for you, and none for me. :lmao: Thanks for rubbing it in once again.

Put me down for 3 hours off on Wednesday for Princess #2's Parent Orientation for new kindergartners.

Other than that, I only have slated 8/29/08 for the Disneyland 5K & Half, and 12/15/08 for the day after the Honolulu Marathon.

So you WIN for the most days off this summer/winter !!! :cool1:
 
First of all, Claire - that is so scary and awful!!! I'm so glad that the police were right there to nab those girls, and that you are not hurt too badly.

As for me, I was about 20 minutes into Pilates for Dummies when I realized that my sapphire had popped out of my engagement ring! No, it still hasn't turned up :sad2: , but hopefully it will. Send me some pixie dust - it's held up for 21 years and I would hate to lose it.

Either way, I'll end my day with a few minutes of the plank, so I'll almost be up to 1/2 hour.

UPDATE: YAY, pixie dust works, I found the sapphire!! On my ring, the sapphire is the main jewel (just 2 little diamonds on the sides), so this was a big deal! It's going to feel really weird to not wear it for a few days while it's getting repaired.
 
Claire, I do hope your okay. Take care of yourself!

You'll all be happy to know I did make it out tonight for my full run. It was still humid, but since it was dark it was cooler. I did 3.25 miles in about 30 minutes. There are too many hills in my standard run to be able to run at race pace, but I find that the hills really help with stamina and leg strength. I haven't gotten into actual speed/pace training yet. I tend to run at a standard rate between 9 and 10 minutes. I'll probably start doing some speedwork and tempo stuff in training for the 10k.

Claire, OMG! I am so glad that there was help nearby. I hope you are feeling ok though. Sounds very traumatizing.

Howard you are not overtraining are you? You are doing so well don't forget that there are required rest days though.

Liz, I love love love walking on the towpath here for many of the same reasons you shared. Only thing is ours is well used by runners/walkers/woggers/bike people/dog walkers and more. We all love being there. Camera is a must! I try to never leave home without it.

Claire: Holy heck!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad: I am so glad that you are okay and the police were so close by. :wizard: for the bump on your head!!

Angie: I am not sure about the positive attitude toward my race. I did have a great run yesterday but you know how that taper thing is, lulling you into a sense of complacency. I think you have to sometimes tell yourself that the run is what it is just so you can survive. At least I do. Some days I feel like fury set free and some days I feel like a lowly sloth just trying to get it done. If you need time to rehab, that that time, you will come out a winner in the end for it.

I got my 7 in yesterday. The first mile was an 11:30 mpm pace and the last was an 11:35 mpm pace. The in between miles were ranging from a 9:30 (clearly downhill all the way) to a 9:50. :dance3: Happy dance. Okay double happy dance :dance3: :dance3: . Yes, I have hit taper madness. I have to travel an hour to a staff meeting and then back the other way an hour and a half to the final softball game of the summer. Clearly, no workout for me today. Breathe and let it go...:rolleyes1

I think my only work outs this week will be XT cleaning house. :guilty: Have a house full coming Friday adn my house has not really been cleaned in an embarassing long time.

Update on FIL - We got word yesterday that he should come home this week. :banana: :banana: Is it selfish of me to be grateful fo rno more MN trips? ;) Seriously, this is faster than we though remotely possible, so we are thrilled!

Ok, I'm 12 days from my first 1/2 and have a couple questions:

1) Email I got yesterday said they'll be passing out salt packets as we enter the corrals and we should consume one then and one half way thru race. This normal? I haven't taken any type of salt supplement during training so is this necessary?

2) My training plan is now into taper and I want to know...how the heck am I supposed to do only 30 min?? I mean, come on..that's just getting warmed up especially when biking. Does weight/core work count toward the time? If not, I could up that instead.

Liz -2007 WDW tehy recommended salt packs. For the full it was before start and at mile 17. I had never used tehm before, but they really helped. I'm sure it's just a heat precaution. Is this CDC? WIth all teh CHicago issues last year, I'm thinking they're being overly cautious. Howevr, you may want to get salt tablets instead. Choking down a salt pack is less than fun. I have Lava Salts.

For taper. Taper, means taper. If you MUST, do some light cvore or every easy weights. However, you want your muscles (and brain) to crave teh run. This is why we have taper madness, but this is also why we can go farther and faster on race day. Good luck!

Liz,

Salt packets are not necessary. Leading up to the race just lightly sprinkle some salt on your food. Preferrably Kosher salt, and not regular table salt (contains Iodine).

Or you can eat one pretzel twist per mile for your salt. Carbs to keep you going. :thumbsup2

LIz: I read your blog, JUST what I needed right now. :lovestruc I am so stressed out righ now about being able to start marathon training soon,
I was just thinking the other day about how this whole "running" thing started for DH & I at the gym on the treadmill, never even the smallest thought of doing a race, it just became part of our work outs, but little by little we would see "just how much farther we could go". We just ran for the run. Then came our first 1/2 marathon training and EVERY LR was SUCH an accomplishment. We were truly focused on seeing if we could just actually accomplish such a goal. Ever since I have been put down with my injuries ALL I can think about is not getting back out there for how much I used to enjoy it, but to try to get - as good as were were- and try to do better.
Sorry to be so long winded but between your blog and Lisa's quote it really has stirred a lot of stuff up in me.
Michelle - way to go on your run!!!! :banana: But Jeff is right, the reason DH and I started getting a lot faster is because, in a REALLY nice, way we would try to "beat each other" or should I say keep up with each other, without even realizing it we got so much faster.
Claire: What everyone else said - HOLY COW!!! :grouphug: You really are a trooper taking the test anyway!!

Lisa - First of all -- awesome run!!!!!! :cool1: because of your fast times but also for taking it easy the first and last miles, something I did not do at alllll when training for MINNIE, hence one of the reasons for the injury. Second, thank you so much for all you said and that quote, it is exactly what I need right now. I try to look long term, every spin class (that I hate)
when we are sprinting, I tell myself, "this is all for January", every yoga and core workout is the same. I just feel such urgency to be at a certain place in the next couple of weeks to start training that I get out there to run and my long term focus goes down the drain. Soo Sunday was really a break through for me in that area, I just need to keep it up.
Carrie: Yeah for your FIL!!!! YEAH!!!:hug:

BTW Liz - DH takes some salt straight from the shaker before he runs, long and hot runs mostly and he found it really works for him, I prefer to use the gels, but your body definately needs the electrolytes and sodium one way or another.

Tonight will be step and a little leg work (still trying to strengthen the leg muscles to help with IT band).
