Wk of July 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

Greetings TEAMMATES:

Just popping in to say "Hi" over lunch. No training to report for me since my 6 miler on Wednesday. I'm going to try to do 5 after work today. Hope it's not too hot.

Kristi- Looks like you had a great time with your boys this week.

Carrie- Sorry to hear about Scott's accident. Please WISH him well for me. What's up with your new job? Congrats on your 10 mile run. WTG!!!

Colleen- How's your MCM training going? I heard you did a 7 mile tempo run. Wow, I'm impressed. I've never done a tempo run. Do you run the whole way at faster than normal pace?

Jen- I'm so sorry to hear you are dealing with so much LTO and WTO. Hang in there. Try to do something each day just for you that makes you happy. That's how I look at my running sometimes. Hang in there.

Leana- Wow, that is an amazing lineup of shows you've been able to see this year!

OK, I need to get back to work. Sorry for those I missed, but I'll be back.

Dana I am exactly like your son too. Last night before I went out for my horrible 5 miles, I told Bobby " I wish I could feel the way I feel after I run" and he finished my sentence by saying "without the run"

Can I ask how old your son/daughter is? (I can't remember which one) cause our 11 year old wants to do the 5k marathon weekend and I was thinking about letting him and doing it with him

Congratulations to everyone on their awesome runs/walks!

Got in our 10 miler on Sunday. Did the first 5 miles with a friend so walked it at her pace which was a 17:30mpm pace, not very fast but I enjoyed it. The second 5 miles was just John & I. The humidity wasn’t bad but it was starting to get hot. We mostly walked with some 1 min. runs thrown in. Did that at a 15:11mpm pace. So at least the second half was faster then the sweepers. :upsidedow Haven’t done much since. Went to the gym on Tuesday & it was hotter in there then it was outside. Ugh! Managed to last for 30min. on a recumbent. They are having problems with the air-conditioning so I haven’t been able to drag myself back in there. Did get some XT in last night at the Kenny Chesney/Sugarland concert. :rolleyes1 This weekends plan is for 8 miles.

I was planning to go btwn 12 and 16 today.
Ran with Bree and normally I run with her for most of it then break away to do extra loops aroung parks, streets, ect...then catch back up with her. She was planning on doing 12ish.
Everything started out well (except for the few shady characters we saw) even thoug it was HOT!
I ended up doing 12.8222 ;) and she did around 12. I stayed with her for the run b/c she was not feeling well near the middle of the run and I was afraid to leave her...and we had to get back. The end is ALL up hill...so we walked alot, but she kept on and did not give up!  to Bree!
It was just HOT and HUMID! The ave pace was around a 10/11 MPM so that was great for her!
Biking tomorrow!

Angie - Michael is 6. He ran the kids races last year and really didn't like it. There were kids running each other over, and getting stepped on. So he decided that he would rather run the 5k this year, and the fact that it is in Animal Kingdom made it something he wanted to do even more. Does your son do any running now? Michael pretty much started from nothing. So we started a schedule that looks something like this.

week 1: r1/w2
week 2: r1/w1
week 3: r2/w1
week 4: r3/w1
week 4: r4/w1

That's what we do now, r4/w1 and we just increase the amount of time he is out there by 1 interval each week. So far he runs for about 30 minutes, next week it will be 35, then 40 etc. for his "long run". Then we run a 1 or 2 mile run at least once maybe twice during the week. So far he's doing really good. Now if he would just stop fussing during the run.

Dana

Mel Did get some XT in last night at the Kenny Chesney/Sugarland concert. :rolleyes1 This weekends plan is for 8 miles.

Karen - glad you got some XT in last night at the Kenny concert. Kenny is one of my loves!! I have been a loyal fan since 2002 and have been to at least one Kenny concert every year since. I am so happy when I hear people went to his concerts and have a great time since back in 2002 anyone I mentioned Kenny Chesney to they would look at me like "WHO?????" I already saw my Kenny show for this year and am eagerly awaiting next year!! LOL But really I am looking forward to Sept when his new CD is released.

Guess you can say I am just as crazy about Kenny as Kristi is about her Goo Goo Dolls!! LOL Well maybe not that crazy anymore - I think she got me beat on # of shows in one year - the most for me was 2 shows in a year but the furthest we drove to see him was Atlanta! So I guess I AM a member of the YARC!!!!

Work and life has totally taken over lately - we are getting ready for a big quality audit the next couple of weeks at our facilities so its been crazy trying to get everything ready. Then I have been busy trying to get my scrapbook stuff done for a group I swap stuff with because its all due the end of this month. And along with all that I am trying to keep up my running. I did get in a run outside yesterday to make sure I can handle the heat and humidity tomorrow evening for my 5k run. I ran what I thought was 2.9 miles and got all excited because I did it incredibly fast only to come home and map it out and find out it was really on 2.6 miles. Oh well at least I got out there and did something. So far for this week I have logged 14 miles and I still have the 5k race tomorrow so that will mean my total for this week will be 17 miles - WOW - I impress myself!!!

Oh and my biggest news is that I am offically signed up for the TOT 13K. Now I can't back out of it!! So I guess I will get to offically meet my Wish team mates in October - how cool!!! :cool1:

Dana Thanks for the response. NO he does not do any running now, we started a little bit last spring, but then we moved and things have gotten crazy.

I like the building of the plan that you did. We are going to start with that this week. When DH tried to take him out last spring they just "went" for a 1/2 mile and that did not work out so well. DS tried to run - fast and got wore out quick!!

I would really like to make it a "family thing" so thanks for the advice.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I'm waking up and fueling up for my LR this morning. I had a great run yesterday after work. I did 5.13 miles in 44:57 min/8:45 mpm pace. It was cooler out, and I just cruised along. It felt really good. After my run, DD6 princess: asked if she could go for a run with me. This is the first time she's wanted to run since her 5K. We did a little over a mile in our loop around the neighborhood. We did 1 min run/2 min walk intervals. She did great, and we had a really nice time just chatting.

The Rochester Marathon in September is having a kids marathon, and the princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, are interested in participating in it. There is a training program that starts Aug 11 and trains for 5 weeks. All the miles you run in training count for your marathon, and you run the last 1.2 miles of the marathon course on the day of the race, cross the finish line, and get your medal. They're pretty excited about it.

Let's see, other than that, I don't have much news to report. I have been talking with DW about running the Disney Marathon. I told her registration capacity is at 85%, and if I'm going to run it I need to sign up soon. We talked a little about it last night after my run, and her reply was "she's money stressed". She doesn't see how we can afford to go on a cruise next month and go to Disney in January. It's always something... I told her I've already saved up most of my portion for the marathon trip. I'm starting to WISH I could just go solo. I may say I'll just sign up for the marathon, and then if we decide not to go I'll eat the registration fee (kind of like I ate the registration fee for the Utica Boilermaker 15K earlier this month).

Hey everybody!

NO training to report on, my back is still a little sore, but now I am SICK!!! I just can't win. So, today, I am going to rest all day, and I hope I feel better tomorrow so I can get a run in.

Karen--DBF and I were at the Kenny Chesney concert on thursday as well, I thought I remembered you saying that you were going. I thought it was AWESOME!! He is great, and Sugarland was awesome as well!!

I will try to catch up with the rest of the posts a little later on. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I have to confess, I didn't get my 4 mile walk done yesterday. Sick child up most of the night the night before and a flat tire trumped running.

Is there somewhere I could get a wish decal or something for the front of my shirt. I had already planned a shirt back (iron on of my completed chemo countdown) but would love a WISH something for the front?

Dona

Well, my 9 miles have been postponed for today. I've been up since about 2:30 with one of my dogs - she most likely ate something and it was making her sick. After a trip to the emergency vet she's now been admitted and I'm just not up for the run. Instead I'm going to take my other pup to the park for a big walk and will shoot for tomorrow morning for the 9 instead. Hopefully things will go ok for Maggie at the vet...:sad1:

Leana, hope all works out for Maggie..poor baby!! pixiedust:
MSDave, so good to hear from you. You are still doing an awesome pace! That is so exciting about the girls and the race. We're here for ya!
:goodvibes Anne

Good morning team!!!!

Well XT is done....housework!!!!!!

I have my 10K tomorrow so we will get out for a nice walk today, nothing fast or long just to get the legs moving.

Leana So sorry to hear about Maggie hope she is going to be OK:hug:

Dona So sorry to hear about your sick baby also, and the flat tire....how is he/she feeling today???

LaurieWow sorry to hear you are sick as well..... hope you are feeling better soon and PD for your back:wizard:

Dave Enjoy your LR today, that will be awesome for your princesses to enter the kids marathon, love to see photos of them crossing the finish line. I agree with registration at 85% I would register and see what happens but I sure hope you can make it. It is such a inspritation for us beginners to see what you have accomplished.

Sorry, I can't respond to everyone DH wants to discuss paint colors so I want to get him going on it while it is him bringing it up and not me:lmao:

Enjoy your Saturday everyone!!!

Kim

Hi, everyone!
I have missed you all this week, and I am still trying to catch up on posts.

Just wanted to report in that your good WISHes were well-appreciated. Our day at Port Orleans French Quarter and our 4 day Disney Wonder cruise were absolutely fabulous (notwithstanding significant rain every day! LOL!)

I did get some training in. We got up early and ran on Saturday at Port Orleans even though our flight was delayed and we didn't get into bed until 2:00 a.m. -- what a gorgeous morning and what an awesome place to run, along the Sassagoula River, ending up at the food court for the breakfast of champions -- a banana, lots of coffee, and beignets! :lmao:

On Tuesday, I went running on deck 4 of the Wonder, which was going very well, until they cordoned off one end of the deck to prepare to drop anchor at Castaway Cay. It was so funny to see all the runners hitting the automatic door button and running through the lobby in front of the Walt Disney Theatre and out the other side of the ship! :) It didn't stop anyone, though!

Wednesday, I went to the fitness center and did a mile on the TM with terrible shin splints :confused3 and then 15 minutes on the elliptical.

Today, I did my 12 mile LR, the last before CDC.

So, this week's tally:
Saturday: 3.22 miles at PO
Tuesday: 3 miles on WONDER deck 4
Wednesday: 2.2 miles on TM/elliptical
Saturday: 12 miles on TM (2 hours 52 minutes -- pace 14:20; 1120 calories burned)

Over 20 miles!

Missed you all and I promise I'll be back to catch up soon.

BTW, I thought of my WISH teammates every day and even wanted to be able to report back that I ran at Castaway Cay (or at least walked to Serenity Beach!), but I was too lazy to dress in running gear and pack bathing suit, etc. to end up at the beach. :rolleyes1:

Trying to catch up at work. :sad1: Talk to you all soon!

Hello all!

I was scheduled for a 7 miler today and ended up going 7.3. My feet tell me that it's time for some new running shoes. I've got a coupon, so maybe I'll get out to get some this afternoon. It was very humid this morning and I came home looking like I'd been swimming instead of running!

Sorry I don't have time to respond to all, but wanted to with Leana some PD for her doggy. Hope she's doing better!

Happy training! :)
Renee

Dave, I think that is a great idea. I've done that. At least you have a spot in the event. At worst, you've "donated" to "the cause."

I was supposed to do 8 miles today, but doggie was not well this a.m. so I hung out to take her to the vet instead. (Had to wait to call, then get "fit" into the schedule.) All is better, hot compresses and antibiotics. We're going to have a bike ride now and tomorrow I'll get in those steps.

Dona, did you miss the WISH Team shirt order? That would be the ideal thing I'm thinking for you! :teeth:

Cam, good to have you back!

Dave - I'm not sure if you knew but if you go ahead and register for the Disney Marathon and then are not able to go you can transfer your registration to the following year. I think you may have to repay (maybe someone knows for sure) but you have a guaranteed spot. The online registration section has the actuals on this.

Cam - It looks like we just missed each other in WDW. I was headed back when you were headed there. Which building did you get at POFQ? We stayed there a couple years ago. It is such a pretty resort. Hope you had a fantastic trip :thumbsup2

I hope you had an awsome time!
We were in building 3. It wasn't the closest to parking, but the resort is so small that nothing was far away. I LOVED the resort, though Howard and Jenn are not eager to stay there again. We are at POR for the ToT in October, and I am hoping Howard likes that. No two ways about it, though -- the grounds are absolutely beautiful!
