Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Today's run shall henceforth be known as the TOW MATER 12 MILER...it wasn't fast and it wasn't purty...but I got 'er done :thumbsup2 The humidity was just awful at first...almost felt like you could reach your hand and scoop a big chunk of air. I thought of Cam and Howard at POFQ...hope they were doing okay. Overall, I'm not unhappy about it...I wouldn't even call it a stonker, though it sure was character-building. I came home with 'character' just oozing all over :scared: But that's it...12 miles in the books! That's my last LR for CDC...everyone ready for some TAPER MADNESS?!?!?!?! :lmao:

Bill...welcome back! Sounds like a good time at WDW.

Lou...cool run and great pace!

Terri...congrats on getting back out there!

So my next brilliant idea is the WISH team Runner's Hostel. I figure we can just start visiting each other to find better running weather. I'm gonna pencil in you guys with the 48 and 55 degree temperatures for next July. Y'all can plan to come down here in Dec ;)

Back to Harry Potter...got my copy this morning, only on page 388.

Have a good training week everyone!

Mel - I'm calling it a night at page 446! DD finished at noon - I picked it up around 3:00 and have been at it ever since (with minor interruptions), but I'm exhausted.

Our run this morning was 10.5 miles. My friend and I led the pace most of the way. When we finished one of the other women told me we were really fast and made it look so easy and smooth! I was flattered, but laughing since from mile 7 on I was hating every step. Found out that our group leader is doing the Disney Half too!

Off to bed so I can read more HP tomorrow...

Jackie

Mel-Did you also do the the "Tow Mater 12 Miler" backwards? That, for some reason, is one of my favorite Cars scenes. I think its the flash-backs I have to doing doughnuts in snow covered parking lots back in my youth. We had a great time at WDW, even with the heat. Right now I'm at that weird stage of being happy to be home (so I can go back to work, earn money for the next trip (after trying to convince my wife we really should go back again) and, most importantly, get some rest) and already missing WDW. Even my youngest daughter said to me half-way through the week that she knew I really loved vacationing at WDW because even though I made everyone get up early to be at rope drop to avoid the biggest crowds and mid-day heat, she looked at me and said it was good to see me having fun again with them "just like a kid." (She had a tough time dealing with my surgical complications.) I'm looking forward to going for the marathon, but I know it won't be as much fun without my kids there. I guess I'll have to rely on WWDave and the rest of the WISH/YARC crew to make me feel like a kid.

TEK224/Terri-Congrats on the mile and welcome back to training. Maybe we can be pacing buddies. After my hip and back issues, I am only a little faster and walking a little further. Six months and many miles of traiing to go though.

Jackie & Mel-After landing from Orlando at 10:00 PM last night, we returned home and then my two oldest daughters somehow convinced me to take them to B&N last night so we could get the HP book. We finally got our copy at 1:30 AM and my oldest started reading in the car on the way home. I don't think she slept last night and finished it this afternoon. Daughter number 2 took it next and has been reading it since. Thus, I have to wait for her to finish before I get my chance, even though they made me pay for it since they spent all their money at WDW.

Have a great evening all.

Oh, I almost forgot. In an effort to try and get on (back on) the good side of the WISH warrior women/YARC princesses after the snake fiasco, I submit the following for your approval:

A man was in a serious biking accident as he, being a man, did not think he needed to wear a helmet.

The doctor entered the waiting room to confer with the immediate family and explained to them that the man needed a brain transplant and that it would cost $10,000.00 for a male brain, plus surgical and related OR costs.

The family, not being well off, asked if there is any way to get a cheaper brain. The doctor replied that they could get a woman's brain to transplant for $5,000.00. The family, being confused by this, asked the doctor why a woman's brain costs so much less.

The doctor replied that they have to discount the women's brains because they are used.

OK, back to lurking.

Morning team! Fueling up to head out in a few minutes. Got 13 scheduled for today; not really feeling it right now, but this weekend is supposed to be the best of the summer--no humidity and autumn like morning temps. So, if nothing else, I'll be enjoying the weather.

Mel--:rotfl2: on the Tow Mater run! Too funny!

Terri--WTG on getting back out there and getting the steps in! Good luck on the next mile today!:thumbsup2

patsfanBill--Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation. But, I will say, that the adults only WDW trips are wonderful as well!

Okay, gonna finish my am caffeine, lace up and get out there!

Good morning WISH Team.

I came home and went right to bed last night after the race. It was an evening race and by the time the awards were over I was drained. I didn't even stay for the door prizes, I didn't see anything there worth waiting for.

The race went well. (My first race in the FinishLine Colors, I need to talk to them about some tech frabric singlets for summer racing though.)

This race starts up a hill about a quarter mile long so the remainder is trying to recover from that. Everyone went at the hill to fast. I was third but if it had been a judged race I would have been 2nd, since the 2nd place guy was wogging. I could feel the lack of training I've had over the last 2 weeks. My time was 22:24 for the 2 miles so pace was 11:12. This was a Pr for this race, last year was 23:18.

I got to see some of my walker friends that I only see at races so that was nice. One of the Tenn races and I made a pac that we were going to do the 2011 Senior Olympics and then go to Europe for the world games since that is scheduled to start after the next Senior Olympics.

Bill, I'm glad you had a good time at WDW. Fear not Erica and I are never confused with adults. From what I hear there are a lot of folks on the WISH team that follow the Peter Pan out look on life.

I'm off to meet my lady for breakfast.

Have an amazing day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Just love how this thread starts anew on Sundays - love reading my name as part of "the team" !

Today's goal - 5 miles - first LR ever!! and I have a whole team in my head giving me confidence!! (and dh promises to wog with me to push me thru the boring part!!)

Chimera Good going - thanks for the inspiration!

and I wouldnt plan on next July in Chicago area - for some reason this 55deg F weather is freaking us out!! There is no way its going to be this cool 2 years in a row!! I'm taking it tho!! I'm hoping it sticks around for my race next week, and of course the Chicago half in August!! :thumbsup2

Harry Potter I tossed and turned around 5:30am and gave up and got the book and started in on it for the day! up to Chpt 26 - pg 500 or so!! DD 10 wants to do this book slower, so she's letting daddy read to her at night, like he used to!! and DS 19 decided he needed to reread book 6!!

Good morning team. Well I have no training to report, I had a planned cheat day yesterday a BBQ with great friends where we over indulged on everything. Boy it is great to have a kid with a licence

I really do hope to get out and get in my LW as I do feel great just a bit lazy but I will get something in today.

Harry Potter If anyone would like to PM me the spoilers that would be great. I have never read any of the books but love the movies and can not wait until the 7th movie comes out to find out what has happened.

Bill I love that joke!!!!! Glad you enjoyed your time at disney with your family.

Jackie WTG on your 10miler and pace....:woohoo:

Stephanie I hope you have a great run today

WWdave Congrats on your race yesterday!!! Have a great breakfast with Erica.

eeyore45 Good luck on your 5 miles today you can definatley do it.

Carrie WTG on your 12 miler....way to git ur done!!!!

I am very excited about my 10K race next weekend this will be the first one since the Minnie so very excited.

Have a great SUnday all.

Kim

Good morning WISH gang! Been MIA for a little bit, but read through last week's threads and am feeling motivated and inspired again -- sort of. Not to be a downer, but we had a death in the family in early June and I have just been in a total funk, plus busy dealing with estate stuff, and running has fallen off the to-do list big time. Plus, I really do not enjoy running in the summer heat and humidity. And also, I had to stay up from 12:01 July 21st and read straight through the Deathly Hallows (I was in a race with my 12 year old son, so at least I've done some racing, right??). Hmmmm....I think thats it for my excuses...

I am a little nervous about trying to get back out there after being pretty much inert for a month or so. It ain't gonna be pretty. What is 5 steps below a Tow Mater?

Anyhow, thanks for keeping on keeping on, so i can always come here for some motivation or inspiration. I guess I'll go hit that pavement now, and hope it doesn't hit back too much. Hope everybody has a great run today, and a fabulous sunday.

Erica

Morning folks! Yesterday I went out for my 8 mile run. I decided to try and go someplace new. I obviously didn't find the right start of the pathway because I wandered around lost for the first 2.5 miles. But, back to the start, I found the pathway I was looking for and I was on my way. It was a super pretty route - it ran up along the Elbow River in park area where there were tons of people out with their pets. Then the pathway would end for a bit and you would be running through some really swanky residential neighborhoods, then back on to the path. Yesterday I really made a point to just look around and enjoy the scenery and not worry about time.

Plus - I have some new favorites I have to tell you guys about!!

Sharkies organice energy fruit chews. These things are just like gummy candies but not as sweet. They are smaller than Shot Bloks so easier to manage, and they taste better. Plus they are shaped like little sharks!!

And I have a new favorite running skirt!!! I love the one I got from RunningSkirts.com. It has briefs underneath instead of the shorts, but the skirt length is terrific so I never felt overexposed (I even wore it to Costco after the run to go pick up HP). I like this better than the Marathon Girl from skirt sports since I think there is a bit more coverage. I'll probably look to pick up another one soon from them.

Have a great Sunday everyone! I am frantically trying to finish HP#4 so I can reread #5 and #6 to get on with reading the final book..!!

Just a run by............................

I'm back to walking on my tm every day and now I've started to water walk.

Congratulations Dave on the race, it's nice to recognize other races!:car:

Well, I'm back from my 13 miler--and may I just say that I'm green with envy of ya'll that get to train in the summer in 50-60 degree weather. It was BEAUTIFUL outside this am. A slight breeze, no humidity, 60s and sunny. I was in heaven. But what I found extremely odd was that this being the best weather in July in recent history and it took me 6 miles before I came across anyone outside:confused3 Anyway, I finished the 13 miles in just under 2hrs, 9:06 pace. And today I decided not to stop the clock for potty/gu breaks as I have been doing--felt like I was cheating myself and overestimating my time. My splits were a little erratic, but I was just enjoying the nice weather.

Leana--I am so with you on getting lost--this morning I needed to add some more distance to my normal route and decided to run around the local soccer fields. Well, I got all turned around and went down 2 dead ends before I found the right path...at that point I was glad no one else was around to see me.

DaveWW--congrats on the race! I am still always amazed at your pace for walking! Super Speedy!

Kim--your cheat day sounds nice. We went to my dsis bday party last night and it killed me to be good--knowing I had to run this am. Hoping they have some leftovers I can snag this afternoon!

eeyore45--Good luck with the 5 miler! You can do it!

Okay, gotta run, grab some grub and hit the showers so we can make it to church on time. Have a wonderful Sunday all!

OK, back to lurking.

Yes agreed my friend we need to stay in the good graces of the local hotties. We don't want them ganging up on us, at the ToT and beating us and leaving us in the woods for the Boogie to eat.

The WISH ladies are especially beautiful today.

Dave:hippie:

Hey everyone!

I haven't had a chance to read through any of the posts. Just wanted to let everyone know that we are back from WDW (our flight was delayed last night due to severe weather in Orlando) so it was a late night after the drive home.

Had an absolutely wonderful time!!! The DREAM squad is soooo much fun and I would love to have that job! The heat was tough but going in July we should have been ready for it. We tired staying offsite at a townhouse with a pool and I have mixed feelings on this but if anyone needs specifics let me know. It is definitely a much more economical way to go and the townhouse was beautiful.

Sending everyone :wizard: and :grouphug: and hope to get caught back up with everyone soon.

Minnie

Hey everybody--just time for a quick drive by......

I went out this morning for a 7 mile run. Finished in about 1:13 for an aver pace just under 10:30. I felt great for the most part. My back has been a little sore this week but I was able to jog the whole way!!!

Great job to all those who did runs this weekend!

I hope that those of you who are stuck in Harry Potter mania were able to pull yourself away from the book long enough to get a workout in.

First, let me say that I am so sorry that I do not keep up with everyone. I do feel guilty, but it just goes so fast around here.

I did my LW 9 miles today. Farthest I have walked. Went to the arboretum and it was very pleasant. What I can't believe, I walked 9 miles in 2 hours exactly. That puts me at a 13.33 min/mile pace. Very fast for me, since I am usually in the 16min/mile range. I am still astounded at that time!:cool1: I am not sure how I did it. I even drove the route after to make sure the gps didn't mess up.

I am having a laparoscopy tomorrow, so no workout tomorrow. Good news, I will have tons of time to sit and read HP!!! I picked it up yesterday, but the kids have been very needy this weekend. That's okay though, some day I will miss that (just not today) :) .

Have a great day,
Maggie

Mel - Great job on the 12 miler yesterday. My weather this morning at the beginning of the run was 58 deg with about 60% humidity. Pretty hot and balmy, I know, but I struggled through it just fine.:rotfl2:
NEPatsFan - Glad to hear you had a fun time at WDW. Coming home I have the same mixed feeling. My wife and I are always starting to plan the next trip to WDW on the way home from WDW.
Maggie - Good job on the LR! Good luck with your lap tomorrow!
Leana - Sounds like a nice route you had for your run!
Steph - Great job on the run!

Today was my 14 mile LR. Finished in 2 hr 44 min. Ran 3 min, walked 2 min. Officially that makes it the longest distance I have travelled under my own power without the use of wheels and gears (riding a bike). Felt pretty good afterwards, although my knees were sore, but no shin pain. Soaked in a cold tub for 30 min and that seemed to help out alot. Towards the end I felt somewhat fuzzy headed and realized that I should have brought some Gu or other gel/glucose-electrolyte replacement product. Didn't completely bonk, but if it were to be a 16 miler, I would have....lesson learned. I did have water so I wasn't completely nutters (for all you HP readers).

Happy Training.:yay: :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2:

Well let's see if I can keep up this week. I was out on a business trip last week and due to late nights and early mornings, there seemed to be an absence of short runs. :rolleyes1

Yesterday morning was planned to be the long run. When I went out I was trying to figure out if the flashes I saw were lightening in a clear sky or my eyes playing tricks on me. I decided it was lightening and since I couldn't figure out where it was coming from I should go back to sleep. That afternoon we had a major thunderstorm and 5 hours later things calmed down.

One effect from the thunderstorm was the temperature dropped to 70. Since it is normally 75-80 when I go to work at 5:45 in the morning, this is almost unheard of. So I couldn't pass up the opportunity to run. I did 8 miles with a pace of 11:14. Granted it was 100% humidity, there was a nice breeze at times so it didn't feel too bad. Now today it is back to normal and almost miserable.

Lynnda is currently reading the new HP book. She takes breaks to feed Timmy and play with him but is otherwise reading. Billy is trying to put a crimp in that by getting sick but I seem to get those duties and he is definately not happy with Daddy taking care of him. :lmao: I guess I know who the comforter is around here. ;)

I did read everything last week but since I am so far behind there I will start with this week. :rolleyes1

Krista and Laurie - Belated happy birthday. Hope the days were fun.

Mel - Glad to hear that the run went well. I hope you take it easy during the upcoming weeks and have a great time at CDC. Also like the name of your run. :)

Jackie - Great job on the run. Congrats on being complimented on it as well.

NEBill - Glad you had a good trip. I don't think we will ever move since we would have to be farther away from WDW. Cute joke and Lynnda will totally agree.

Stephanie - Great job on the run and glad the weather was nice for you. That is a great time.

WWDave - Glad that the race went well. You are making me a little jealous by not training and still coming in third. :lmao:

Sandy - Hope the run goes well for you today.

Kim - Good luck on the race next week. I am sure you will do great.

HMErica - Great job on getting back in the saddle. Sorry to hear about everything that is going on and I hope it calms down soon.

Leana - Glad you were able to see some new areas yesterday during the run. It is always fun to actually see what is around you when running.

Minnie - Glad you made it back safely and had a good time at Disney.

Laurie - Great job on the run. I hope the back feels better soon.

Maggie - Great job on getting out for the long run, that is a great pace. Good luck on the laparoscopy tomorrow.

Andrew - Congrats on doing the 14 miles. Glad you were able to learn some things without getting in trouble.

I think it is now time to go get dinner ready. Have a good week everyone.

Bill

I was bad on Friday and Saturday and did nothing. We have been working alot at my sister's new house (my dh is putting in a wood floor) and since Thursday we have had late nights. So we slept in this morning. I decided to not run early in the morning and so I knew I would have to run on the treadmill. So I had breakfast and got started. Put on the Talladega Nights DVD (since there was no NASCAR today) and I set the TM on 5k event training. I ran almost the whole thing and only stopped one time but since I ran most of it I was only at a 5 mph pace and I ended up doing the 5k slower then the other day when I took more walk breaks but ran at a faster pace. After I was done with the 5k I wanted to do another mile as my cool down at 3.5 mph. Since I was busy watching Talladega Nights I decided to keep on walking and ended up walking another 5 miles on top of the 5k I did so I definately know I am able to do the TOT 13k since I just did that today and I wasn't pushing myself and ended up doing it in 2 hours and 10 minutes. I of course had to take 2 breaks - the DVD was really dirty and I had to clean it and get the remote for the DVD player and then I had to get more to drink. I ended up watching the whole movie. I guess that is what you would call treadmill nirvana since I feel great (besides a blister on my arch since I had it taped and that is a normal blister spot for me in my regular shoes but not running shoes) I did soak in an "ice" bath for 10-15 minutes after - I say "ice" because the water even though I had it on the coldest was not very cold and I put the whole bucket of ice in the water and then got in and there was no ice left!! I am just happy to actually get the milage in and I know I am able to do it.

Mel Glad you got 12 miles in - WOW.
Sandy Hope the 5 miles went well.
WWDave Congrats on the race, great times.
Andrew Great job on the 14 mile LR
Maggie Way to go on the 9 mile walk what awesome times

Anyone I forgot I appologize. I have to get going. Not sure what is one the schedule for tomorrow but I might take it easy since I have a 5k race next Saturday evening.
