Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Sunny - That is GREAT news! Even though the procedure sounds horrible, and the thought of wires and hardware and all that stuff doesn't sound like a lot of fun, if this works for you, how absolutely AWESOME!!!!! And if you have to stop running for a couple of months, so be it. You may be able to outrun all of us in January!

Jen - Great job on the 6 miles this morning.

WWDave
- I think we need to send out a search party for MSDave.

Jackie

Hello Everyone!!

I will try to do my best to keep up with you guys. Since I'm not running as much I should have more time to post huh?

I will do what I can to respond to last week and try to keep up this week.

First, thank you again to everyone for the well wishes and welcome back.

Stephanie - To answer your questions I am still going to do RFTT (I hope) not Bobby and I'm vey skeptical about full, my back is still pretty rough. I'm seriously considering signing up for half (you can still get in if you book 3 nights with Anthony Travel) I think all things considered that may be my best option.

lourodrigis I hope that you followed the weekly thread over to this week and I wanted to answer your question of how you become part of the W.I.S.H. team, the answer is -- your in. This is one the most wonderful groups of supprtive people and cheer you on no matter what your goal. Join us on the boards and at the races.

Have to get some work done (yes on a Sunday) No running for me today.

Have a good day everyone

Thanks. Looks like a great group.

Good evening! I've spent the last 3 days breaking in a new pair of orthotics. My left foot where the heel and arch meet is where it hurts, but it's getting better each day. So, just 'cause that isn't enough, I bought a new pair of athletic shoes today. After today's workout. So I'll take a rest day tomorrow and on Tuesday will try the 2 together and see how it goes.

Sunny: good to hear from you! I hope the procedure works for you and you are able to get some peace.

Scott: I read your race report and it sounded great! :woohoo:

lourodrigis: Welcome!!!

Can't wait to hear other race reports! Have a great evening everyone!!

Hi everyone!:wave2:

I've been telling myself for months that I have to get back to my walking/running program, but here I am just sitting on my duff again!

Well, I just bit the bullet and registered for the Jan 5K (DH has long been signed up for the half.)

Uh oh! Now I have to get a move on and start walking again!

Hope to get some support here.....

Kathy

BTW, If you want to read a trip report about our experiences last Jan, click on the Half-And-Half report, below! DH's first half marathon!

Sunny - Geez, I feel so bad that you have to go through all this. But I'm glad it seems like you're getting some relief. I know it's been making you crazy.

lourodrigis - welcome to the group. I'm glad to welcome a fellow Eagles fan! :thumbsup2 We're a lot of fun, train hard, but don't always take ourselves to seriously. :)

Howard and Cam - have a great time on your vacation!

Did another 30 minutes on the ex. bike. Got called into work this morning so I never made it out to the track.

Terri

Hi Everyone,

I got out early for my 9 mi LR today. The plan (1/2 mar in Oct.) I am following has you alternate your LR one week at a steady pace then the following week you decrease the mileage by 1 or 2 miles and run it at a variable pace. You start off the first 2 miles comfortably then start increasing your pace until the last couple miles are run at 1/2 marathon pace. I'm not too sure what to expect for 1/2 mar pace for me, so I just tried to increase the pace each mile just a little. I love this workout. You just ease into it. The first 5 miles are fine, then the next 2 a little more challenging then when the really hard part comes you're just 2 miles away from home. I figure the quicker I run the sooner I can stop. We'll see come October if the plan works or not.

Mandy: Sorry about the Wii injury. My DH smashed his hand while playing "tennis".

Stephanie: Good job on painting. We moved in our house 9 years ago and all our walls are still builder's beige. Sorry you're sore, but it's good for your muscles.

Kim: Good luck with your dieting plans. It definately helps to put it out there for all to read, it forces you to confront it yourself. Join us on the Weight Loss while training thread. We don't get a lot of activity, but maybe we can change that.

Judy: Hope your recovery is going well. There's nothing like a little forced inactivity to make you appreciate all the more your ability to run/walk.

Andrew: Congratulations on your amazing weight loss and the continued commitment to better health.

Cam: Congrats on finishing your race despite not having fueled properly for it. Live and learn - let's hope. Glad your 10 miler was great.

Leana: Great workouts. I'm glad the instructor was able to offer some good advice with your training plan.

Kristi & Carrie: Good luck with renewing your diet and exercise plan tomorrow.

Jen: It's great that your DD has listened to the good things you tell her. It's encouraging for you to know you're doing your job well.

Martha: Hope the new orthodics and shoes work well.

Cecilia: Congrats on being chosen as a mentor. That's a great honor.

hoosmi: Congrats on the sub 30 5K. Congrats also to both your and your DH on the weight loss.

Meghan: Glad your run was almost pain free.

Jackie: Congrats on finishing 13.5! It's definate an accomplishment.

Laurie: Congrats on the new Forerunner. Have fun with it. Early birthday wishes to you. Tuesday is also my sister and her DH's bday.

Renee: Congrats on the good run.

Terri: Glad the biking feels so good, but definately take it easy.

Howard: Hope the shins are better. Good job on getting your run in with the heat.

Lou: Welcome to the team.

Sunny: Glad the test drive is working. Sorry the process was so rough.

Angietuck: Best of luck with your back pain.

Kathy: Congrats on signing up for the 5K.

Have a great night all.

Cindy

OK, I have to say I have total respect for those of you who run outside all the time. I ran 3.66 miles today pushing the jogging stroller. I went early in the morning and it was really flat, but the humidity was out of control! I averaged about 11 minutes miles, but felt like I was standing still. My very fine wicking clothing was absolutely stuck to me-- yuck!!

On the plus side, I survived and I did kind of enjoy the people watching. (I was at the beach- poor me LOL). Still, while a change of scenery is nice, I really missed my TM at the gym with the built in fan and a place to hold my towel!! The TM is boring, but I also don't get lost (that's the extra .66 mile!)

Welcome lourodigris! You'll like this group.

Angie- hope you feel better soon. I remember you were talking about how both you and Bobby had been hurting. I bet you'll be blazing again soon!

Sunny- that procedure would have done me in. How scary! Hope it works!

Oh, and when I said last week that DH and I were eating better and had lost some weight, never fear-- we still have our moments of bad eating and I have a good 20 pounds to go! Don't want you to think I'm too smug. :rolleyes1

Hey all! Got my 12 miles in today. Well, actually it was only 11.86 when I got back to our house--and we live in a dip between two very steep hills; I wasn't going to go up either one to get the extra distance. I kept a 9:05 pace, finished somewhere around 1:47. The weather was actually fairly pleasant this morning, at least for mid-July. This is the longest I've run since my marathon back in march--it felt good knowing I can do the double digits!

Sunny--glad to hear the "stimulation simulation" went well. Sorry you'll be out of running for a bit--but the being pain-free sounds like a great thing!

Welcome All our New Teammates! Keep posting with us, so we get to know ya'll better. We're a fun group--but beware, some of us "Just Ain't Right!":rotfl:

Angie--Sad to hear that the marathon is iffy--was looking forward to having your company for the 26.2 (just can't make any potty stops!;) ) Good luck with RFTT and hoping your back is better soon. Let Bobby know we're thinking of him!

DaveSW--Do we need to send the dogcatcher out for you??????:confused3

Well, I should go. After my LR and then working all day, I'm beat! Have a great evening all!

Sunny you have moved to the top of my list of heroes. Your ability to keep your chin up is inspiring to all of us. I hope this is the new beginning you have been waiting for.

We are always searching for the latest and greatest piece of equipment to make us better athletes. Sometimes the best piece of equipment is a just a shot of good old fashioned courage and a positive attitute.

Hi to all!
Welcome to the new WISH Teammates!

I've updated The WISH Team Calendar. Check it out.

I am sorry I am behind. I'll see if I can read some of what I've missed.

Hey, not much to report - did my first back to back runs in 6 months this weekend, just two 40 minutes in the end but all good today with a bit of stretching so full speed ahead from now on. So onto everyone else...

Sunny: omg, all I can say with true British understatementis blimey - but hope it all goes well for you.

And sorry to confuse everyone with the days, I',m nearer US time than I was but it's still all kerblouey. Can't remember who asked about AKL rates, but no they still haven't done next years confirmed rates but they will give you a 'at the current moment' rate which may mean absolultely nothing I spose but at least we have a room.

Anyway, in spirit of 'full speed aheadedness' I am now going to go and write my training plan in my diary for the last of my lunchbreak. Helen

Sunny - I hope the permanent implant will help you lead a pain free life and I hope you will be able to continue to run after the 6 week recovery period.
Kathy - Congrats on getting the registration in! You will find loads of encouragement, motivation, and inspiration here on the WISH boards!
lourodrigis - Welcome to the Team!
Steph - Great job on the run! How did the post run work day go?
Angie - Pixie dust for you and your DH's back problems.
Cindy - Strong work on the LR!

Day off for me. Well, rest day for my legs anyway...my LR was yesterday. The baseball game was great last night. Ryne Sandberg is now the manager for the team that came to play and the stands were packed. I spent too much time in the pool and got sunburned on my front. It's actually a funny looking burn as my arms were at my sides almost the whole time (I was lounging on a raft) and the burn has a tapered look to it that is almost slimming. Not about to go on a run shirtless any time soon though, just funny to look at in the mirror. Took the camper out to a local campground today and will spend the next three days out there relaxing. There are always cyclists and runners/walkers on the roads there, so I'll be sure to get in my training runs (have to burn off the s'mores of course).

Happy Training!

Kathy - Welcome! Just read your ENTIRE trip report (thanks for keeping me up late - NOT!) and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm running the half for the first time in January, so it's great to read other reports!

Jackie

Sunny

Your experience sounds like when little Darla was in the Dentist's office in Finding Nemo. After what you went through, when they walked out to the waiting room and said, "next," the waiting room was empty. I hope this all gives you some relief from what you've been experiencing. It's always interesting to have your physician say things like, "that's unusual," and "wow, I've never seen that before." Good luck with your recovery.

Helen

I know I've missed something in the past few days or weeks, so here is the dumb question You are in the states now? When and where? Welcome!

For Jen (WI) and others who this applies to

Yes, you are role models every day for your children. As they become teens they do begin to separate, but it's just as true then as when they were little. Showing them every day how much you love them, what it means to love a spouse, the work it takes to set and achieve hard goals, how satisfying that achievement is, that trying but failing is no shame, but failing to try is, prepares them for the world they'll face as adults.

Well I jumped in with both feet and joined a local club, not a hoity-toity club, but the Boulder RoadRunners. I went back today for the weekly Sunday a.m. run and this time I knew the drill. I went out a bit faster than last week and was running with a different group. I fell into conversation with a gentleman a bit older (I thought) than me, I guess we were running 9:30 or so miles. A topic came up and he told me, "we have another member you need to talk to. He is a bit younger than me, I think he's 75."

 WOW! Is my first thought. I'm clipping along with 76 year old man! I didn't know whether to feel embarrased or inspired, so I went with inspired.

At the 2.5 mile point where you can turn around, he and the other 2 in my group did, and I went on. I found myself alone, with no one behind me for a good distance, and a group of 3 about 200 meters in front of me. The rabbit in me rears his ears, and off I go after them. I did catch them, eventually, at mile 6 actually, but I blew my body apart doing it. The best part is as I got closer to them I see 2 gentlemen and 1 lady. The lady is probably 55, one man is perhaps 45, and the other man I recognize as one of the club's octogenarians :scared1: . That's right, it took me 3.5 miles to run down an 80 year old man. I had planned to do 7 today, but running down the gang of 3 emptied my tank, and for the last 1.5 miles I kept telling myself I'd stop at 10,000 meters. When the garmin rolled 6.21 miles my body had enough. I did the 10K at 9:04 per mile and I don't think I had another second in my body today.

After the run we have drinks and snacks and chat, and when that was over a few runners invited me to come with them to a local coffee shop for more drinks and snacks and chat. You meet the nicest people in running shoes.

On Thursday eveing they are hosting a track meet and I've volunteered to work the event. If I screw up the courage, and don't mind finishing last by a minute or so (what's the slogan of our club, DLF>DNS?), I'll do the mile run.

Take care of the new orthotics and shoes Red Dragon, because at 8 a.m. on Sunday, August 5, you've got a date with the Boulder RoadRunners. Bring your gear.

Best to all

Craig

Just a quick post to say hello. I am in Santa Fe, NM for a few days. I have been walking so much my feet hurt. I count all the shopping as XT, but I don't know that DH will be pleased when he sees the credit card bills.:scared1: I brought my Garmin and may venture out for a run in the morning. I hope everyone has a great week and here's some :wizard: for Sunny.

Good morning,

Checking in. I did an hour of yoga last Friday, and walked 45 min on Saturday. Yesterday was an off day. Today I am planning a 30min walk after work.

Maggie

Good morning! Nothing training to report. We camped up north & went to Santa's Village Saturday. We had a blast! Well, except for the rain that happened while eating dinner Friday night (no canopy). And then the rain that happened all of yesterday morning while breaking down the tent.

Sunny - what an ordeal that was! I am sorry you discovered a new form of torture, but it sounds like this could really help you. Esp. since you have already decided to go ahead with the permanent device - which to me says that the 'torture' is worth it. I hope the BJ's detectors didn't zap you too hard!

Angie - Chad & Zack had gingerbread men for you. I am still trying to block out the image of the kid who was eating the do-it-yourself icing off the nozzle of the container! While the parents stood there doing nothing.

Judy - do not tempt me, woman!!! You know I am crazy! I just might show up to get you Saturday afternoon and wisk you away to Jones Beach with me. :lmao:

I am supposed to be starting over again today with my diet & exercise. I am still not feeling well though. I am going to call the doctor as soon as they switch the phones over & be seen again today. I couldn't stay home today (or any day this week) since the girl that works with me is on vacation this week. Ugh.
