Wk of July 15--WISH Walking/Running Club

Checking in..

Sunday - rest day

Monday - Was going to walk after work, but did something bad to my back yesterday while transferring a rather large patient who was unable to stand. We were transferring from wheel chair to bed (3 of us) and I just twisted rather than moving my feet. Yes, I know better.

Today, have been taking it easy, not lifting the kiddos, and will do an hour of yoga tonight hoping it will take care of things. I figure I am know the variations of poses so I won't do anything to difficult tonight.

Maggie

p.s. dd16 agreed to ToT! Yeah! This will be a fun weekend. Does anyone think this race will get to capacity? dh will have to make a last minute decsion on joining us.

Glad to hear SWDave is okay.

Leanna - Great Pics! Congrats!

Jen - Hope everything works out for you!

Geez - 6 months from now I'll be home from WDW (showing off my Donald, Mickey and Goofy medals) ;)

My scream team keeps getting bigger  I think I now have 9 other people coming down with me for the weekend. I've even convinced a few of them to run/walk the 5K. They're not too interested in any longer distances.

I ended up adding on to my DVC points so I could book a 2nd room to accomodate everyone. I now have a 2BR and studio booked at SSR for marathon week.

Terri

Krista - I'm running the Half. I signed up for it long before I joined this running group. I actually think I could be ready for the Full, but I think I'm going to enjoy a few Half's before I decide to do 26. Maybe 2009...

Judy
- Glad the cortisone shot is working and that a return to training is on the horizon. Every time I'm on the TM, I'm doing an extra half mile just for you!

Kelley - Don't let Saturday's LW get you too down. I had a similar experience 2 weekends ago, and last weekend's LR was my best ever. But the weather was horrid on the bad weekend and I ended up dehydrated and with blisters. My post that night was very whiny! I wish I'd had your DD to take care of me.

Tricia - I'm another one who is definitely slower on the TM than outside. But now that I know it, I just have different competitions with myself depending on whether I'm running inside or outside. I can also run 3 miles nonstop on the TM, but could never in a million years do that outside!

Leana - I'm hurting just reading about your weekend!

Kristi - Do you only camp in bad weather?

Cecilia - I was a fair weather runner until I read about all you guys dying at Disney this year. I've been trying to run outside as much as I can so I'll be ready for whatever Mother Nature offers!

Whoever said about getting outside and training in this heat to be better able ofr January, by the time that comes we've had enough cold weather training to nix all the hot weather w/outs. I just WISH for it to be a LOT cooler this January.

This is NOT what I want to hear when I'm feeling really proud of myself for getting out there when it's hot and humid!

Cam - I just counted and I've now done crunches 21 days in a row - then I look at your post and see you're at 70! But it's great motivation when I'm ready to fall into bed and think I can't start over when I've got a streak going. Have fun on your cruise - I think we may be doing the same thing for DD's graduation trip in 2009.

Angie - Hope you got the run in. We'll forgive you for whining about 9:00 miles!

Maggie - Be careful! I'm hoping ToT doesn't fill - I'm still holding out hope that we'll be able to go but won't know for sure till last minute.

DH and DD have gone to the beach for an overnight Daddy/daughter trip, so I get a night alone (with the dog!) Did a 3 mile run on the TM - best time yet (33:47). Today is the first day my calf muscles have felt normal after Saturday's LR - maybe the increase from 10 to 13.5 wasn't so smart, but it sure felt good at the time! Was going to take Mystic for a walk, but it's thundering now so she's hiding in the bathtub - so much for that plan...

Jackie

I'm off to run 5 miles, don't feel like it, but I know I'll only regret skipping it. UGH!!!!!!

Be back later!!! :)

Kristi - Do you only camp in bad weather?
:lmao: Now, don't go jinxing me!
My friend Melissa & I just now booked a weekend to go camping in August! We will be going back to Santa's Village and also hitting Six Gun City.
Yee Haw!

Instead of walking/running, I am going to do my yoga DVD tonight. Might make it easier to get to sleep, rather than getting all that blood pumping and not being able to fall asleep right afterwards. As soon as Zack is out of the tub - I am all over my yoga DVD!

Cam - you are very sweet - but you are still amazing, woman! I may go to work at a hideously weird hour, but I mostly surf the internet all day while waiting for the next big breaking news story to happen.

Carrie - thanks for updating us on Dave!

Oh, I keep forgetting to tell you guys...I found a larger clapper-like thing-a-ma-bob like the ones Carrie gave scream teamers last year. But it's much bigger and even has little LED lights that flash when you make it clap. It was at the Dollar Tree and they only had one green one. I bought it, and I've been searching a couple Dollar Trees for more, but I haven't found them. I wanted to buy a bunch for this year's screamers. I will keep looking...

Ok, off to yoga...

3 miles with new shoes and new orthotics. Pain free!! Yea! Maybe my old shoes were just really, really broken down. So, tomorrow I'll get 2 miles plus some biking. Let's hope my legs will hold up. They felt a bit sluggish.

aladdinsgirl: hope the 5 miles felt better than my 3!

Jackie: :woohoo: on the 3 mile time! Enjoy your quality time with the pooch!

Terri: will your scream time go from park to park to see you go through? You can look forward to seeing them at each one which should make it more fun. Or at least a bit more tolerable.

Maggie: ouch! Hope the back gets better soon.

Carrie: good to hear from SWDave!

Howard & Cam: have a GREAT vacation!! I'm total jealous but hope you really have a wonderful time.

Judy: happy to hear the foot is pain-free but it sounds like the cure, i.e. the shot, might have been worse than the pain! OW!!!!

Leana: hope you get some relief from the heat and the workouts are back on schedule!

Angie: we're here for you! Now, get your butt out there and workout!!! Did that help?

Jen: sounds like you worked up a sweat on the indoor track! Hope it was a good run.

Kristi: did you get the workout in? I've made a promise to get in 100 crunches each day, a la Cam. I've done 2 days in a row. I promise I won't go to bed without doing my 100 crunches and you promise to do your workout. Let's check in tomorrow.

If I missed someone, I apologize. Hope everyone has a great evening!!!

Did 4.15 miles on the TM while DD was at swimming lessons. Thought the run was jinxed, but ended up being great!

I'm one of those people who has to tie their shoes just so, and likes to put their water, iPod, etc. in exactly the same cupholder position each run... I don't know why I'm neurotic about running, because I live in a sea of clutter at home and in my office, but it is what it is. :confused3 Anyway, I thought my run was going to be horrible because my 15 month old is obsessed with shoes-- he didn't steal my shoes like he usually does, he stole the shoe liner out of one of them!! Luckily I put on my shoes at home today, so I was able to dig through my closet for the original liners, but it really made me crazy. He got all excited when he saw the one I had to take out of my shoe- maybe I should give it to him and follow him around the house, because the original is still missing. :rotfl2:

For those of you with TM concerns, my Nike+ always times me at about 1-1.5 minutes faster per mile than the 5 TMs I like. But when I ran a race on the Fourth, the Nike+ and the official time were totally in line with each other. So I've decided I have a strange stride or something and that I am running faster than the TM is spinning. I don't actually know if that is possible, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.;)

Life here has been very busy. Lynne has officially finished her 3 year of medical school. She had hospitalist for the last 4 weeks and ended up on call almost every other day for the last 2 weeks. We then spent the weekend moving out of her apartment. She is on her way to Maine to do some stupid mandatory training that interfers with her Ironman pre-race activities.

Ironman is this Sunday. Her bib number is 2172. She can be tracked by going to the IronmanUSA website. She can also be tracked by name Lynnette Johnson. She is hoping to have a good race but feels she is under trained as she has taken the last couple of weeks off to let some over-training injuries heal.

I am still plugging away at the training schedule for the Nike Women's Marathon. I did 12 on Sat, and 4 yesterday and today. Since we are going to be in Lake Placid, I will be forced to do my last 4 miles and my Sat 11 miles up there. Lynne has an 11 mile route mapped out for me. I may try to talk her into coasting along on her bike with me or catching up with me after her early morning seim. I am still very slow but figure I will get faster if I keep at it. There are only 3 walkers in our TNT group so far, but I am trying to talk Erin into walking it with us. The mentor, who did the race last year, that I do the long walks with will be 69 on race day. I am just hoping to get enough speed built up to carry over to getting back into training for WDW in Jan so I have a cushion from the sweepers.

Erin is keeping herself very busy by working 2 jobs. She works 40 hours at one and averages another 20 hours at the second. She discussed the schedule with her managers tonight so they will schedule her with a weekend day off every other week. She need a day to herself.

Hope everyone keeps up with the great strides they are making with training.

Just wanted to pop in real quick and give everyone an update. My last run was last Tuesday in the 103 heat index for 3.5 miles, but my shins were hurting so badly I decided to take the rest of the week off. Which was bad enough, but then I got sick and haven't been feeling well all weekend. Today was the first day I was back up and feeling well enough to really do anything. So tomorrow I am back out there running again. This time I am going to take it much slower. I have revamped my entire training schedule, and I am making sure not to up my mileage by more than 10% a week. Hopefully this will keep those shin splints at bay. Tomorrow morning I am off for a quick 2.5 miles. Nothing major, just going to ease slowly back into it.

Dana

hey everyone!

Last night was my first night back after taking most of last week off. I've been doing a lot of stretching...foot and hip seem better, brain is in a better place. Looks like time off is a good thing :confused3 I ran slow on the TM last night just until my hip and foot started twinging so I got in 35 min instead of the prescribed 60 for this week's training. I'm looking forward to tomorrow and to 12 miles this weekend!

Krista...hope your 5 miles went well!

Jackie...congrats on your great run!

Sunny...glad to see you're getting some relief. You asked about spinous processes...they're the bony lumps you feel on your back when you run your hand along the spine. They project off the vertebra, kinda like Gonzo's nose.

Judy...hope you continue to have relief from your pain as well. You'll be back in no time!

Dana...hope you're feeling better soon!

Kathy...great to hear from you! How's the shoulder? Best of luck to Lynne in the Ironman! Hi to Erin for us!

Craig...sounds like Boulder is wonderful, one of those places on my list to visit! How are your classes going? I'm talking with the pharmacy practice chair at the new pharmacy school here to see what my role might be as an adjunct there :)

Jen in WI...so sorry that your family situation is putting you through all this

Jen in GA...great run! I'm slower on the TM too, by about 1 to 1:30 per mile. How do you like the Nike +?

Martha...:woohoo: for the new orthotics!

Maggie...yikes, back injuries are tough! I'm sure Andrew can relate to patient transfer issues.

lourodrigis...:welcome: sorry if I missed this, but what type of training are you doing?

KathyRN...:welcome:

DH decided to try my original plan of doubling up the half training so his first official day was tonight. Unfortunately, I interrupted his run with 10 min left. The thunder and lightning started cracking while he was out so I went to pick him up...he was wearing his MP3 player and after that article in NEJM :rolleyes1

HELLO TEAM!!

Guess what?? :confused3 Bobby ran with me for a mile tonight!! He was very frustrated with his lack of endurance, but I was so HAPPY to have him with me :cool1: !!

When he left the hospital, the surgeon basically said no more 1/2 marathons at a 9 min pace, but jogging around the neighborhood was fine. So here we are, I was so excited.

As for me I tried to continue on to finish 3 miles but got chased down by a NASTY:scared1: thunderstorm, lot's of lightning!! So I only got in 2.6 total, but it's ok. I felt so good when I was done.

I want to thank EVERYONE so much for the encouragement, it means a lot.

Judi I'm so GLAD you are pain free    Maybe I can get one of those for my back!!
Leana - I just looked at your pictures!! That is awesome, you are famous and I can say I knew you back when!!
Carrie Thanks for the encouragement. Funny, by tonight I was encouraging Bobby to please not give up. We receive and we give HUH? And that's good news about Dave and as one who is coming back, sometimes it feels good to be HUNTED DOWN!!
Kristi I hope you got to the YOGA DVD!!
Jackie What a wonderful thing to have some alone time!! That's great about the run. I love the words BEST TIME EVER it just makes you want to keep going.:yay:
Martha Thank you, actually that is exactly what I need. I am so over the poor me moment!! :rotfl2:
Jen IN GA Glad the run turned out better than you thought!!
DANA You have NO IDEA how much I can relate to your frustration of having to slow down and take time off!! I'm glad your still here and posting. These people so help my attitude. Sending lots of :wizard: :wizard: that you will be better quick!!

OK so have to ice my back!! Maybe tomorrow I can more miles in before the thunder storms!!

angie

Hi everyone :yay:

Just wanted to let everyone know we are in WDW now :cool1: :cool1:

Yesterday first thing in the morning at Epcot we were granted a DREAM!!!!!!!! The trip has been wonderful so far. Tomorrow is Magic Kingdom day :cloud9:

No time to read or catch up so :wizard: to those that need it and :cheer2: to those that are getting their training in!!!!

Minnie

Angie - That is great that you got out for a run, and that Bobby was with you! I truly wish you both all the best for your backs and more pain free runs!!!

lourodrigis...:welcome: sorry if I missed this, but what type of training are you doing?
NEJM :rolleyes1

I am following an 18-week training program I found online by Hal Higdon. Anyone else try this program?

So far (4-weeks in) it has been so good. However, the Disney marathon is obviously more than 18 weeks away so I am taking this program up to week 10 (15 mile LR), running the Philly 1/2 marathon in Sept, and then starting over again to do the entire 18 weeks for Disney.

It's easy for me to run in summer, timewise. However, school starts for the kids in September. I'm also interested to see how do when the fall and winter arrive.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Wow, you guys are the best - I tell you. I'm sorry people were concerned that I was not posting. Nothing major's going on, I've just been swamped with work, life, etc. I haven't even been able to get on to read the boards the past two weeks. So I have no idea what's going on, and to be honest, I felt a little guilty if I would post something minor going on with me if I missed something major going on with someone else. Jeez, you would think I would know better after being with this team for over a year and a half. Thanks again for all your concern. I really do appreciate it. I still need to post and tell you all what's been going on with me, but I'll have to try to do that later today.

I miss you guys, and I'll be back and posting again soon.

Mel - I am glad you are feeling better after a little break.

Kathy - great job training for Nike! And thanks for updating us on Erin & Lynne too.

Dana - lots of :wizard: for your shin splints.

Martha - I did get to the yoga!

Angie - I am so glad you both got to run together! :thumbsup2

Minnie - have a fabulous time in The World!

Ok, I did the yoga DVD as promised and it felt great.
I thought yoga was supposed to be relaxing though.
I don't know how that can be when you are yelling "Zack, go to bed!" and dodging toys on the floor while "relaxing." :confused3 :rotfl:

Zack (and I) were up way past 10pm last night! :scared1:
I am going to try to get to the gym at 4pm, before Weight Watchers.
BUT, if I can get him to nap today - that is exactly what we are doing! :cloud9:

And yay! Dave's back!!!

Good morning team....

just a quick drive by!!!

Dave glad your back and all is OK

Angie So glad DH is back jogging, lots of PD for both of you.

I did 5K last night in 41 mins. Pretty impressed with my time. Felt great

Carrie, Kristi how are you doing???? I am still on track

Kim

Good morning WISH Team, and the ToT Group, known from this day forward as, "The raiders of the lost YARC".

My lady and I are off to Frankfort Ky, so I can take that State Board Exam. Wish me luck, I know the stuff, I think, I just hope I don't get stressed and make a stupid mistake. I'll be a happy walker if I pass. The Beer and blackened catfish will flow tonight for my victory supper tonight. Or my poor me dinner.

Dave did you see the Mouse SkyWalker avatar I found for you?

Judy, thoughts of healing, come on now everyone, like Care Bears.

((((((((((((((((((((((((((Judy's foot))))))))))))))))))))))))))):wizard:

Minnie, we will get through the stress speed bump we hit and get it together again.

Everyone have a great day, stay out of trouble fellow "YARC" Raiders.

Dave:hippie:

My 5 miler last night was what I like to call a character building run. It was horrid. My legs were in pain from the first minute until the TM hit 5 miles. I know it's the inserts causing it, I just don't understand how one day they can be great and the next day my knees, calves, Achilles tendons, and ankles hurt. :confused3 I wanted to quit several times, and almost did, I even stopped the TM and started to get off, but then I thought about Sunny and how she runs through the pain in her spinal cord, and Cam who finished the marathon in so much pain, and Angie and Bobby and the back problems they are having. I also thought about the little boy who lives on my street, that I pass on every run who sits in a wheel chair and the father/son team who does the Ironman's even though the son is a paraplegic and the dad pulls him in a raft during the swim and has a seat for him on the bike and pushes his wheel chair for the run. After thinking about that, I knew I couldn't quit when there are people with much bigger problems and are dealing with much greater pain, and yet they get out there and run anyway. Thanks for being my inspiration Wish team!! :goodvibes

WW Dave--Good luck!!!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

SW Dave--I'm so glad that things are okay for you and your family and it is just a case of LTO!

Minnie--Have a wonderful time in WDW!!

Angie--Yay for Bobby!!! Sorry you didn't get to finish your run, but cutting it short due to thunderstorms is a good reason!!! Make sure you and Bobby take it slow coming back.

lourodrigis--Welcome!!!! I really like using the Hal Higdon's training program, I'm using his novice I program for the Columbus marathon and I used his half program for the Flying Pig half in May. My DH has used the novice II program for his first full and the intermediate program for the Goofy Challenge in January and now for the Columbus marathon. It seems a little daunting (how about that 10 miler in the middle of the week on week 15?? ), but it doesn't seem completely over whelming. Yet. :)

Mel--I'm so glad you are feeling better!!! Don't push it this weekend!!! It's much better to get in a 6 miler without any pain than pushing through 12 miles and end up hurt again!!!! Do you promise??!!! ;)

Martha--I'm glad your having some luck with your orthodics. Can you send some to me???

Kim--Congrats on your 5K!!!!

Leana--Your half marathon pictures are awesome!!!!!!!! That one at the water stop is too funny!!!

Carrie--I have 10 miles this Saturday too. Not really looking forward to it.

Cam and Howard--Have a wonderful cruise!!!!!!

I better get off here and start working. My motivation level is zilch, so I better just start, huh?
