Wk of Jul 30--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

I just wanted to say thank you for all your kind words & prayers everyone has sent my way. Craig, your post was wonderful & made me cry - but a good cry. Thank you! The good news (if there is any in all this) is that the 2 boys were not drinking and they were wearing their seat belts. They just were being stupid 16 year old boys & were going ridiculously fast on a long, very windy road. The other boy that was driving is expected to be ok, he just has alot of surgeries ahead of him from what I've heard.

Services are tomorrow & Friday. I am hoping to get some wogs in just to decompress a bit. It was 100 degrees here today, but I may try to get out and do a couple miles now on our loop since it's dark. If I do manage to get out there, I will come here and report in!

Hey, something must be wrong because this is my second post this week. Seriously, my DD and DS and not playing their games on the computer and I actually got on tonight for a little while. With the temp close to 100 yesterday and today I have hit the TM for 5.4 miles and 5.2 respectively and actuallyt feel good being on it.

Judy, when are you going? Where are you staying? We will be at SSR and then Board Walk Vilas. My one concern is I am 10 weeks out from a marathon and need to get in at least 2 long runs (16 and 17 or 18) by next Friday afternoon. You know that there will be no run longer than 5 miles while in the World.

Lily, thanks for the well wishes but I hope we have at least two weeks of fun because we are going to WDW for 2 weeks and boy do we need it right now. I just finished the last of the planning and now need to plan the packing list - I simply can't stop planning (already planning 2007 trip in June).

Kristi, I hope you and your family are dealing well with your loss. You are in my thioughts and I am sending PD and :grouphug: your way. Sorry to hear of your loss.

Hi Everyone,

I’m going to try to get everyone on this post --- I’m sorry if I miss anyone.

Thanks to all who have given feedback about the pacing time that my friend and I decided that we will keep….I really can’t wait until January!

Well, this Sunday is my Ice Cream run (5k) and if things go well I will also be running a 5k later in the month with friends from work that one is the MADD Dash on the beach; Although, I’m really not certain about the MADD Dash since deciding on the getting a second job….they might have me on the schedule, so worst case I pull a no show – work is paying for my entrance into that race.

Jodi- Wow, you took another job? It sounded like you were sooooo busy with your first job. Don't kill yourself, we want you to be able to put in the training for the Goofy so we can meet you in January. Take care of yourself.

Oh, Thanks Dave – everyone is pretty worried about me (family/DH), they said if I feel the least bit strained or I feel like I am not getting enough sleep…..to give up the job immediately (I was sworn to it). I also plan on stopping off at the Vitamin store or local Health Food store to do research in order to keep me going.

Work was especially busy the past couple of days – a lot of the other admins were on vacation. After this week though – it should be a little easier. I’m one that enjoys to be busy but there is also a limit to it!

BTW Dave, your run last weekend – great job! Hey, how is your trip coming along for January…..Forgive me, if you have already said but how are you breaking the news?

Oh, and I almost forgot: I almost LOST MY GARMIN! I got home and went searching for it from this weekend and couldn't find it for the life of me. Luckily it smoehow rolled under the bed of the place I was staying, so it's on it's way home. Between books and my first fall tuition payment this month I don't know if I could have swung the purchase price of another, so I'm VERY relieved.
Wow, that’s great that they were looking out for you – glad the Garmin is on the way back!

You’re right, this week has been pretty brutal with the heat…..I’m kind of relieved though, it supposed to break a little for the weekend.

Mel (Chimera) – You can add The Hartford Marathon (or Half Marathon) in CT during the month of January. There is another very cool race put together by the same folks around April/May, but I can’t recall what it is - - If I think of it, I will post it but for right now, I will say you could add the Hartford Marathon.

Jodi--I can't believe you are going to take another job. You are going to be BUSY!
Oh, I know – I hope I can handle it……If not, I will toss it! I wish I could just put together Gift Baskets as a second job…..but I have no idea how to set something like that up.

Well, I’m going to run….Have a good night everyone!

All you Floridians, is it really unbearable down there this time of the year? This heat wave we are experiencing is brutal. Is Orlando like this most of August or could I hope it will cool off in a few weeks?
Colleen

Honest? This is my least favorite time of year...and I like it hot. As you will hear, it's not the heat (we don't get those 100+ temps down here), but it sure is the humidity. It's tangible this time of year...on a bad day, when you walk outside, the humidity wraps itself around you and takes your breath away. But...go to the parks in the a.m., back to the resort in the afternoon, then hit the parks again in the evening, preferably after the 4pm thunder shower cools things off.

Kristi... :grouphug: wow. :grouphug:

Judy...are you planning a WDW trip this month?

Matt...Chris looks like it will stay south of us, but hoping it doesn't make that turn (you're in the Panhandle, correct?)

Kevin...glad we're on the same psychic plane :goodvibes That's a great list you have going.

Dave...already got Florida checked off my list. It's the only state I've run in :teeth:

Cam...I meant to say something last week, but missed it. You look amazing! I didn't realize how much you'd changed when I saw you in May until I saw MelR's pics from January. Wow! Congrats!

Thanks to everyone for your race suggestions! Keep 'em coming!

2.11 miles on the TM in 32 minutes today at W3/R7. Taping my foot really helped yesterday...running today really didn't :rolleyes1 I'm thinkin' more tape for tomorrow!

For all you science/engineering/medical geeks out there,

Awesoem site Mel!!! Now I have a place to X-mas shop for dh! ;)

Good Morning Team :surfweb:

OK, I had my 30 min SWOG last night. Oooh, it felt good to get in the pool in this heat. I have my x-country race tonight with my princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:. I'm very excited. I'm excited to be around a group of runners again and "run" a race (I'm not really racing - I told myslef I would 1/2 walk and 1/2 run for my rehab). But I'm more excited to be sharing this experience with my girls. It will be a fun Daddy night.

Sunny- If you are lurking out there could you pleeeeeeaaaaaase post? I want to know how you are doing. Plus, I was thinking of comments you've made before where you don't post when you get really depressed, and I want to make sure you are OK. All of your teammates here are concerned about you and want to know how you are doing. I hope you didn't do anything rash again like when you threw your medals away. Just wanted to send you out some good thoughts, and have you know we're thinking about you.

Good morning! :sunny:

Ugh. I slept through my walk this morning. It was a fitfull night with no good rest. So, when the alarm went off at 4:30 I merely rolled over and closed my eyes. Now I guess I have to get on the TM afterwork. There's no way I'm walking 5 miles outside in the afternoon heat today. Last week I had a bad Thursday, now today is bad. I'm beginning to see a pattern.

To Mel and anyone else looking for ways to race around the states, come to Maryland for the Baltimore Marathon. It's on October 14. (http://www.thebaltimoremarathon.com/) I'm walking in the half. It will be my first-ever organized event.

Also, I'll be in WDW this month, too. August 12 - 17 at BWV. Maybe our paths will cross. (Judy? Goofyguy? Matt?)

Cheers,

AHHHHHH! I cannot keep up! I did scan, but I feel like this is not doing justice!
I am feeling better, but have only ran 4 tuesday and 3 wednesday. I have not biked or swam. This strep wipes a person out! The 100+ temp doesn't help either!
But anyway...the reason I am quickly posting>>>>>>>>>
I SIGNED UP FOR THE WDW MARATHON!
:cool1: :teeth: :cheer2: :dance3:  :dancer:
Yesterday, I signed me, DH, and BIL up to run! DH will be running with BIL, so I will be running by myself. Unless, someone in this thread is crazy enough to run with me! :teeth: Hint, Hint!

Mel - COME TO CHARLOTTE! We have several 1/2 and a great full marathon.

Colleen - Where in NC do you live? Have I asked this b/4?

Krista - I hate that sick feeling! Take care of yourself! Cute pic of Hines in your siggie...both of them! :goodvibes I haven't noticed the doggie pic though.

Christa -

A. You have not signed up yet???
B. You are running 3 and 4 miles with strep and an 100 degree fever???? Have you ever heard teh word rest? Take care of yourself!

Okay Christa Phipps

Perhaps we can come to an agreement for 26.2 miles.

What's your expected time for the marathon this January? We're both coming off Goofy's Challenge in 2006 and stepping back to sanity and one race only.

My Goofy results were 2:05 and 4:47, plus I'm a little ahead in my current training vs. last year, so I hope (HOPE) to go sub-4:30 on January 7. Is this too slow for a young jet like you?

Also I'm spending Saturday night at POFQ and will walk to the start, so I'll be coming into the corrals from that direction.

If our anticipated times are the same and we can arrange a meeting place at 5:50 a.m. on January 7 I'd love to have someone running on my sholder the entire way.

If you are interested send me an e-mail at stephenson@babson.edu.

Thanks

Craig

.

Yeah Christa!!
Glad you took the plunge! It wouldn't have been the same without you!
I live in Hickory, about an hour northwest of Charlotte.

Today is DH's 38th birthday, so I am he can no longer call me his old lady anymore (at least until January)!! :rotfl2: I am cooking a Disney dinner for him tonight which includes mom's meatloaf from 50's Prime Time, the now defunct green beans from 'Ohana and the cream cheese mashed potatoes from Le Cellier. Luckily, I have already done speed work and took a pilates class this morning. Off to the gym at lunch today for some weight training too. Hopefully that'll give me a little room for indulgence tonight.

I have decided to defer my Marine Corps Marathon entry until 2007. They allow your entry fee to rollover. That means Krista and Kevin could commit to join me there in 2007. I have instead opted for a local Hudson River Marathon on October 8th. With all of my scheduled upcoming trips, I just thought it too selfish to go to DC this year. Family first  It was a hard decision for me but I am okay with it. My training will not go to waste.

Christa - Yeah for signing up for WDW :cool1: I hope you're feeling better. :wizard:

Dave - I'll be thinking of you and your girls tonight. That sounds like so much fun and something I definitely want to share with my girls somewhere in the future. As for 'Ohana, my ADR is for 7:05 on Jan 7th. I do hope to see your family there for our celebratory dinner.

Mel - Don't scare this Northerner who is heading down to MCO next week. Just lie about the humidity at this point :) Glad the taping is working for you.

Jodi - Best of luck with your 5K. :cheer2: Be sure to take it easy with the second job. As training for Goofy intensifies, you're bound to feel fatigued more often. Please listen to your body.

Kristi - :grouphug: Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Matt - Don't you dare utter the "H" word!! I am going on a cruise next week!! I hope you guys have an awesome time at WDW next week.

Colleen - I hope switching your training plan works really well for you. Don't cancel the trip!! If this Yankee can edure the heat next week, you guys will be fine. Best of luck squeezing the morning runs in.

Only one more week until we surprise the princesses with the cruise trip and I am so excited I could just burst. I will be serving French Toast Loaf (Main Street Bakery) for breakfast under the guise of it being the 100 day celebration until the November trip. Can you tell I love WDW food and cooking. :confused3

Happy training to all this week. :woohoo: Stay cool and safe in these temps.

Craig

I am so jealous. Craig, you know you are one of my heroes. I hope Christa gets to take you up on your offer. Christa -- I am SOOOO glad you will be there in January! Can't wait to see you! I WISH I were going to be at the finish line to cheer you guys across--2 of my heroes/role models in one place at one time! :goodvibes But, alas, assuming I make it to the finish line, it will be about 2.5 hours behind you. :cool1:

Okay -- my training update:
I did 4 miles on the TM last night. The first one was a very slow 14:48 because of the warm up and then I had shin splints. I stopped for a few minutes and stretched some and re-situated my shoes, and then did the other 3 miles in 41:00. So the average pace for the last three miles was 13:40 and the overall pace was 14:00 for 4 miles.

For the first time in a long time, my feet really hurt afterwards and still today -- both the heel spur on my left foot and some kind of pain on the top inside of my right foot where the shoe may have been tied too tight. I think it is time to take these shoes out of the rotation and move onto a pair with less miles and more cushioning. I'll also keep in mind that any little ache or pain should be immediately addressed rather than going 3 miles and then dealing with it later.

Nothing on the training plan for today. I am taking a rest day. Still hoping to get in another LW on Saturday am before it gets hot. I'll beg DS13 to come with me with his bike to do the track. That will motivate me out of bed.

Dave -- Have a fabulous time tonight with your princess: princess: !!

Sara -- Happy Birthday to DH! Dinner sounds fabulous! What about dessert? :cake: Did I miss that?

Craig & Christa (and anyone else interested):

My time for the WDW Half in January was: 2:14:56
(with a stent in place due to an active kidney stone)

My time for the Caesar Rodney Half in March was: 1:59:33

My time for the Delaware Marathon (my first) in May was: 4:41:03

It seems that our time(s) are similar. I am going Goofy  this year but would enjoy keeping up with you during the Marathon on Sunday. I am open and interested in finding a running buddy for either the Half on Saturday or the Marathon on Sunday.

Thanks!

Sara, Sara, Sara--Why do you do this to me? If I don't stop finding fun races to run, I'll NEVER get pregnant!! :teeth: We might see you at 'Ohana after the marathon, our ADR is at 5:45. How do you have all these great Disney recipes? Do you mind sharing the French Toast Loaf? That's my favorite!!!

Christa--Glad you are feeling better! I would LOVE to run the marathon with you, but you are too speedy for me. Maybe I'll see you at the start line. I just put in the picture of Hines, he's wearing his Mickey Mouse football sweater (because he's a Labrador Receiver :rotfl2: ) that we bought him in January. I always try to buy him clothes, but Stephen won't let me, he says the other dogs in the neighborhood will make fun of him! :lmao:

Mel--I'll have to check that site out, I'm married to a geek. I always call Stephen my little enginerd. :goodvibes

I have nothing to report, too busy to run last night. Tomorrow is Stephen's birthday, so I spent the night getting ready for that, plus doing laundry and cleaning the kitchen. Tonight's not looking great either, unless I run pretty late. I have to go to Fleet Feet to pick up my registration for Saturday's 5K, my Mom is going too and she does love to shop. Hopefully I won't get home too late.

Thanks for the little reminder Howard. ;) :rotfl:

Happy Birthday Cam!!!
Have a wonderful day!!!!

party: :rockband: :bday: :dogdance: :tigger: :tinker:

Greetings all. Guess what I did this morning? Trained! Whoo hoo! :thumbsup2 My two-day slump is over. I did 3.2 miles in 50 minutes. While not exactly ground-breaking, at least I did it! Yay for me!

Cam - Ohh I don't know where Hancock is but I am sure going to find out. I'll get back to you on that later today. Oh and BTW.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAM!!!

:bday: :cake: :bday: :cake: :bday: :cake: :bday: :cake:

Rachael - The Canadian Death Race....Hey! Sign me up for that one! :scared1:

Colleen - Thanks for asking. My mare wasn't doing too well this morning so I hosed her off. She's really suffering in this heat. :( I am worried about her today, but it does already look as if thunderstorms are on their way to cool things off.

Mike - We are staying one night at ASM, Sept 9th, then we will be at the YC from 10-15th. I can't wait! :Pinkbounc I hear you about training there. Especially for runs that long. I know there is a small course around the YC/BC. I'll be doing several laps around that most days.

Mel - Not in August but in Sept. See above. Will you be there anytime when we are???? :teeth:

Kelley - Oh no, I'm a month after you. Nuts.

Christa - YAY! :woohoo: Yippee! :thumbsup2 Oh good! Oh yeah, and rest, woman!

Yeah....where IS Sunny???? :rolleyes1

:rotfl2: I did not know that I was that sick...thought it was just a small cold or something. I was supposed to go 16 miles but only made it 8! I was dissappointed that I didnot finish, until I found out how sick I really was. I have taken care of siging up for WDW now! We always wait until the last minute......I blame DH. :goodvibes

Craig and Howard - OHHHHH...I have offers to run! I would love to finish with you guys. You guys are the speedies! I hope I can keep up!

Melissa....You gotta run with us too!

Cam - I LOVE YOU GIRL! and :bday: are you 25 again? I have been that age for about 9 years now! :rotfl: HMMMMM 25 + 9 =?????? :confused3

I'll definitely be looking for a running buddy come January. I'm going to be all alone at the starting line, and that makes me a little nervous. I'm hoping I can do 10 mpm pace for the marathon, but we'll have to see. It's way too far out for me to start planning this aspect of the race. Right now I'm hoping I can run 3 miles straight at the end of the month.

Sara and Krista - Whoo Hooo! It's going to be a WISH Team dinner at O'hana's after the marathon! My ADR is at 5:40p for Jan 7th. So maybe we'll all see each other there.

Christa- I'm so glad you signed up for the marathon!!! I remember a month or so ago when you were saying you wouldn't be able to do it this coming year. Yahoo!!!! Things are coming together.

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAM!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
