Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Yep, Dave...we're keeping the same pace these days. My 2 mile LR (I feel odd calling 2 miles 'long' now ;) ) was at a 13:56 pace. DD3 slept in so I didnt' get going til 8:30am yesterday...waaaaay too late for running this time of year. But I managed W5/R5, W6/R4, W6/R3 and then it was over...2 miles in 27:55. Someday, I'd like that to be sub-20......

Terri...have a good time at the beach :beach:

Anne...5.25 is still a good distance! I buy the Clif Bloks online at http://www.gotbody.com, but lots of places online have them and the GU gels if you can't find them locally.

Jodi...congrats on the 5K!

Minnie...WL is our favorite, too!

Jen...Minnie's right...don't push your lungs until you find out what's going on. If it's just exercise-induced asthma, an inhaler before you run maybe all that you need. DD13, when her allergies are particularly festive, takes her inhaler to all of her soccer games and I've made her bring it for the races she's done also.

Pat...congrats on your long walk! Sounds like the aliens have you for sure!

Tiff...nice job on your 3 miles!

Lily...congrats on your 5 miler!

Bekah...nice job on the ride, especially with that extra brake resistance!

Cam...how was your race?

Rachael...how do you like the Sauconys? I tried a pair on, but found them a little stiff.

Rhonda...good to see you :grouphug:

I think I'm having withdrawal...I'm jealous of everyone with races coming up. I've been really wanting to do a race, but there aren't many 5K or 10K events scheduled this time of year down here...must be the heat or humidity or something :sunny: No ice cream or moose runs here :teeth:
I was planning to do the Ringling Bridge run again in Sept, but they've rescheduled it for the week after WDW  I may not have anything until Race for the Taste :faint:

Has anyone updated their Garmin software lately? I did mine a couple weeks ago...now it gives me training zones. My running intervals are now in Pace Zone 5...the Jog Zone :woohoo: It also automatically recognizes if the Garmin is plugged in and uploads the data. :smooth:

Last burning question...anyone do martial arts? I stopped by a new dojo that was having an open house yesterday. I think I'd like tai chi or something that's low impact for cross-training. They tried to talk me into karate, but I'm afraid I'd risk injury with something that intense. DH likes the self-defense aspect 'cause he doesn't really like me running alone. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have a good week!

Hi, everyone! Sorry I didn't check in yesterday.
Am so glad everyone is having a great time with training.

Anne - 5.25 is still great! How many people do you know (outside this group) who walked 5 miles this weekend? Give yourself a pat on the back sweetie! :flower3:

Pat -- That pace is wonderful!

Okay, I know I have lots more people to catch up with, but I am at my office and supposed to be working since this week is going to be insanely busy.

My 5K yesterday was much more strenuous when I was doing than it was in hindsight. First of all, I did the jog1/walk4 for almost the entire time and even though that was hard, looking back on it I feel like I could have worked a bit harder, even if I was beet red the entire time. I KNOW my breathing patterns are sooooo off! When I take a deep breath, my tummy goes in and when I breathe out, my tummy goes out. Isn't it supposed to be the opposite?

Anyway, drumroll, please. . . here are my results. (Can you tell I am pleased?):
I finished 363/567 with overall time 44:20 and overall pace 14:18. Okay, that might not be so impressive but I should mention that it was POURING torrentially for many intervals during the course of the race. AND, I jogged to the finish line, which I haven't been able to pull off too often recently.

My last 3 5Ks have been:
7/4 -- 47:19 (15:16)
7/6 -- 45:06 (14:33)
7/22 -- 44:20 (14:18)

I know I'm pathetic. I'll take any improvement I can get.

Cam-- great race report! Your time and placement are awsome :cheer2:

This is sort of drive-by, I've kept up reading but don't have time to reply right now. I just wanted to get the "Mickey" version of the Goofy '07 image up!

Its free for the taking if anyone would like to use it. I've also added a line at cafepress here

Donald will be next!

oops, looks like its a little too big for a siggie.

Here's another try:

Actually,
Comparing Goofy '07 to Mickey '07 didn't look right, so here is a "cleaner" mickey:

Mickey is much harder to do without copyright infringment.

Quickie post - I will catch up with everyone tomorrow at work!

I was a very bad, bad girl this past week! I skipped my scheduled wogs on Weds. & Thurs. Saturday, I was supposed to do 40 mins. xt. All I did was some paddling (kayaking) in the rain. Chad did the majority of the paddling since I have that lymphodema thing & took breaks here & there.

I did do my 5 miler this morning (walk4 / run 1):
13:28
13:14
13:46
13:27
13:33
1:07:29

It was really humid, so I don't think this was too shabby - about the same times I've been doing lately. Especially for not working out since Tuesday!

Cam, AWESOME job!!! :cheer2: You JOGGED for a whole minute?? every 5 minutes?? Do you hear yourself???!! Your stretches must really be helping your hip. What a wonderful improvement, Cam!!
Kristi, you stop berating yourself. You're still going to blast ahead of the sweepers in September!!
Sunny , you are such a talented woman!! :artist: Thanks for sharing it with us! Looking forward to Donald!
Thanks for the comments on the 5.25, gang. My doctor says the same thing :) . Like everyone else, when I'm out there all of you are in my head and there's Lynne, Erin and Kathy at the finish line! My DH is going to think I'm nuts when I get up on Sunday to be out there cheering you Mickey people on, but I know what it meant to me!

I'm still working on Mickey. I'm not quite happy with the first two.

Here's a Donald '07. I don't think I could get away with the feat in merchandising, but for siggie purposes, it's fine.

Hi all: Well I didn't quite make it to my 10 mile run this weekend, but considering I had to force myself to go out at all, I'm happy with what I did do. The 'no cat' related depression hit this weekend, but I told myself I had to go out for 1 hour (all I officially had to do) but in that wierd way the exercise fairy has of appearing, I could see someone I knew ahead of me so I caught up with her. Turns out she was running from her home (about 6km down the hill from mine) to her daughter's hockey game - about 6km up the hill from mine. But she wanted to stay out for 2 hours, so I ended up doing 1.55 with her - and about 9 miles which works for me.

So, turns out we have missed kitten season here this year (who knew they came in seasons!!) so it looks like I'm alone all day until possibly January. I may go mad with no-one to talk to all day - so watch out, my posts could get even longer than normal. Well done to all those racing over the weekend. Helen

Sunny -- Great designs! That reminds me, I need to send Howard links to the items I want for my bday! ;)

Anne -- Thank you! I have been pretty diligent about stretching, though I know I look goofy lying on the floor with my legs up on the bed or flat against the wall, kind of like an L, and then I use the country music videos station to stretch the hip really well.

Helen -- I'm sorry you are missing kitty. When we were looking for a puppy 6 years ago everyone told us the season was wrong (October) and we'd have to wait until spring. We were diligent in researching and searching and found our furbaby (who turned 6 yesterday, I might add!). I hope you find a new addition to your family. Hugs!

Helen

If you really feel you need a feline in the house I would encourage you to contact a second chance shelter.

In our case we lost the female who ran the house in late January, due to liver cancer. She went down fast and hard and it was very difficult for all 3 of us, plus her brother (actually he took it the hardest).

My daughter found the 2nd Chance Shelter for Cats of Jamaica Plain, my wife spoke with the director about our loss and our need for a female with a sweet disposition who would not dominate our male, and within 2 minutes of arriving at the shelter we 3 found basically the perfect cat for us. She was 7 months old when we adopted her and within a day in our house she became everyone's best friend.

Good luck with your training, and with the loss of your sweetie.

Craig

I've finally settled on a "Mickey'07", now I can get back to reading and replying to posts! (The orig. design that is already at cafepress is still there). In the larger version it is clear that the yellow blobs are "Mickey feet".

I'll have to wait a while to come back, though. I've wasted my percocet pain free window on graphics.

Quick update: back is worse than ever. I go back to ns on Tuesday. :sad2:

Tiffany - Just got back from California - it's definitely hot out there, but the humidity is nothing like the southeast!

Helen - :grouphug: for you. So sorry to hear about kitty. Good luck finding a replacement.

Lily - Congratulations on getting out there!

Jodi - Great job on your 5K.

Cam - Great job on yours too! You're improving - that's what matters!

Jen - Please take it easy until you see the doctor.

Sunny - You too!

I've done NOTHING for the past week. We left Thursday AM for Disneyland, spent Thu & Fri at the parks, did wedding stuff Fri night & Sat, then caught the redeye back last night and have been useless all day. If the exercise gods are with me, I'll get up in the AM and do the TM.

For all of you doing the DL 1/2, you're going to love it out there! We rode the new & improved Pirates, and the new & improved Space Mtn, and I give my vote to the DL version. I'm very envious of everyone running out there!

Jackie

Well I've been doing some more reading on this marathon training lately. From what I've read you are supposed to do your LR at a slower pace than what you are planning on racing at. Like maybe a minute or so slower and this is supposed to help your endurance and keep you from getting injured. Does anyone do this? Up until now I've been doing my LR at race pace (aiming for 14-14:30) and try to do my SR even faster.

So today I decided to do my 6 miles at 15 pace since its slower than my expected race pace but still faster than the sweepers. It was difficult finding my grove for that pace. So I did my 6 miles in 1 1/2 hrs exactly. I'd really like opinions on how you guys do your LR. My last 2 races I did race pace for the LR & did fine (except for that pesky tendonitis in my ankles) So what do you guys do?

Jackie-wow what a whirl-wind trip. Glad you had a good time.

Sunny-I love the logos. I am so sorry you are still having so much pain! :grouphug: I hope they can fix it soon! :wizard:

Cam-awesome job on the race! :thumbsup2 You are nowhere near pathetic, I dont want to hear you talking like that again young lady! pirate:

Mel-great pace! :cool1: We dont have any 5k's around here right now either. The next one I know about is in Sept.

Anne-I'll be with you cheering on the full participants! I cant wait to be on Main street screaming at them like a loon :cheer2: I'm a morning person so getting up is not a problem for me.

Helen-so sorry about your kitty :grouphug:

Bring on the Castle Medal!! Did a LR of 14 miles yesterday. My 1/2 marathon split was 2:22 and change. I'll take that one, especially since it was very hot and humid (at least very humid for Albuquerque). At around mile 12 I got light-headed and nauseus (sp?) and the chills during my walk break. I drank 1/2 the water I had left and walked for an extra couple of minutes until I felt better again. I took it real easy the rest of the way in. BTW, my mp3 player was playing "when you wish upon a star" when my Garmin hit 13.1...that gave me chills too, but not heat-related chills.

Sunny - great job on the graphics. Could you re-post the goofy one so that I may use it in my sig?

Cam - any improvement is a good improvement. And the energy that you will get from the start line will only help you even more!

Wish I had time to check in with everyone, but it is time to put my 2 year old DD to bed. Happy training everyone and stay injury-free.

Paul

Sunny - hope your back is doing better - you must be so frustrated!

Helen - So sorry you are missing your kitty. I would think you will be able to find one that fits you - or they will find you. All three of our cats kind of "picked us" and we love them all. I am so sad thinking of you missing your friend.

Well, I ran tonight after tubing behind a motor boat yesterday. I can hardly move now, I am so sore! :rotfl: I am supposed to swim tomorrow am...not sure that will happen. The good news is that I ran almost 6 miles - well, ran/walked. Even with that, I finished in 1:14! I went to the trail where I usually bike - FLAT! I figured I needed that with the sore muscles!
