Wk of Jul 2--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy - I'm a wimp. I don't run if it's raining; I roll over and go back to bed.

Bekah - I have really frequent migraines too, but I find that the regular exercise seems to help. I do make sure that I eat before I run and stay hydrated, and I'm trying to keep the sleep patterns regular too.

Cam - I'm sure you're done by now, but GO CAM GO! :woohoo:

It's cool enough to run! :Pinkbounc Unfortunately, I donated blood tonight, so I'm pretty sure running isn't on the recommended list. And tomorrow we're supposed to go to MIL's for dinner, so it may be Sat AM - again! Why can't I EVER run during the week? :confused3

Jackie

Cam - I hope you run race went well tonight!!

As far as me... looks like I am gonna be sidelined for a while. Last night my throat started hurting a little, and then around 4am I woke up with the chills. This morning I woke up with a fever, and a sore throat so bad I couldn't swallow. Went to Urgent care and found out I have Strep Throat again!! Obviously, the antibiotics from 5-6 weeks ago didn't completely clear out the infection so it has come back. Here's to hoping it goes away soon, and thank goodness my mileage is slowing down for the next four weeks before I start seriously training for the Marathon. At least it will give me a chance to rest. Well..... I'm off to bed now. Goodnite everyone!1

Dana

Dana -- I am sorry you are sick again. That stinks. Sending pixiedust: for a complete and quick recovery.

Dave, Sara, Judy, Carrie, Melissa, Kristie, Jackie, Dana -- Thanks so much, guys, you are the BEST!!!   The 5K went MUCH better than Tuesday. According to my Garmin, the splits were:
mile 1 -- 14:17
mile 2 -- 14:15
mile 3 -- 14:11
final .13 -- 11:37

Garm thinks the race was 3.19 in 45:09.
I think official was 5K in 45:06 which is a 14:31 pace.
A bit better than Tuesday which was 47:19 for a 15:16 pace.

Thanks, again, WISH team, for your support! I LOVE hearing your "voices" in my head when I am out there by myself. :grouphug:

Oh, one last thing -- this race had the BEST goodie bag -- a bright yellow Lance Armstrong tee shirt, a yellow cyclist cap, yellow livestrong bracelet, a ticket to the local minor league baseball game next Thursday night, 5 different shampoo & conditioner samples, hersheys kissables, purple m&ms, a 2 different concert tickets -- one is a very locally famous garage band and the other is the Marshall Tucker Band -- and all sorts of coupons and discounts for local restaurants and shopping outlets.

I'll definitely do this race again next year! :cool1: :thumbsup2

I just saw the word's Helen's packet on a post then and got very confused - skimming again. Yes Kevin, it is here (did you not hear about me being on the DVD, did I not shriek loudly enough), but I just thought I'd mention the new trauma of the DL packet as I leave for England three weeks before the race - hmmmm, I wonder if it'll get here in time.

And Judy, if you could ask Eyeore to make sure Tigger is with him as I run past in 2008. After I've done Goofy, that's it, no more, I'm intending to retire and sit with a blanket on my knees - unless of course, I don't get my tigger picture this time either in which case 2010 here I come!!!

I'm skiving this afternoon, I finished my last job for the week at 11am this morning and thought - oh, I'll worry about next week, next week. I may regret that Monday morning but at the moment - hoorah, a rest. I think we'll got to see POTC tomorrow, I think it's on at the IMAX screen in town so that'll be fun if it is. Not much else to report, only on here to gossip really. Helen

Cam, :cheer2: Great job!! :cheer2: and that's for both of your races! That goodie bag at the second one sounds awesome!! What a great reward. Did your partner enjoy her first race? Did your IPOD work? :music: Have a great time away from work!!
Matt, Great job on yours and your DW's Firecrack Fourth race!! :thumbsup2 Loved your description of the humidity and temperature! :rotfl2: So glad you were able to find a couple more events to participate in!
Dave, Cam said it so well about walking as much of the WDW marathon as you want. I know you have dreams of running the whole thing, and that can still happen, just maybe not this year. You've really come so far!! :cool1:
Judy, WONDERFUL!!! I must have missed about you not getting to do the Memorial Day race. I'm so sorry! But, see..you CAN do it!! and with hills!! Also your multi quotes look excellent! :woohoo: When do you leave for Italy?
Helen, Enjoy your time off!! and POTC!! pirate:
Dana, That's the pits!! :mickeybar WISH I could give you a real one!! Absolutely fantastic that you have gone 12 weeks smoke free! Keep it up!! :rainbow:
Monte, Do you have pictures of Copper Mountain? Sounds gorgeous!
Kristi, Your t-shirt "I'm Grumpy because you're Dopey" had me :lmao: That will get passed along to others! And WHY did you decide to run at noon??? But, hey, negative spits!!!
Jackie, VERY wise decision to not run after donating blood!! ::yes::

Little by little the stamina is building back up. Was so afraid that I would have to wait four months and then PRAY that I could be ahead of the sweepers at DL! The first time I tried one of my exercise videos..it was very, very sad. :sad2: Could barely make it through halfway before I gave up. But I did it again this week and it was much better, so I have hopes! Five miles this weekend!

Keep up the good work everyone!! Anne

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Did my 30 min swog yesterday, and I had another PT session for my shin. Lots of exercises, same ole' story... Thanks for everyone's support about running/walking the marathon. I really hope I can get back to training soon. I really need the help of everyone here to help my not get frustrated and just give up on my dream. It's been 5 weeks since I've run on the roads. Next week I'll be on vacation all week, I'm going to try to see if I can do some walking. We'll see...

WTG Cam :cool1: :thumbsup2 :cool1: That's a great job! So much improvement over your 5K on Sunday. You rock girl!

Dana take care of yourself and get healthy.

Cam- Awesome job :yay: DS would love that goodie bag. He worships Lance! I better not tell him about it or he will have me drive to DE so he can do the race next year :)

Dave-getting accross the finish line is getting accross the finish line. Doesnt matter if you walk or run. Just take care of those shins & you're doing the best you can :thumbsup2

Dana- UGH! :wizard: for the strep and congrats for being smoke free for so long :cheer2:

Krista-Didnt you & Steve do the Flying Pig 1/2 this year? Was it a good event? Mom & I are thinking of doing the full next year. It has a 20 min pace requirement so that is much more doable for my bad ankles than WDW 16 min pace. Plus she could probably do it with me. She's done all the big races with me & its becoming a cool tradition. I also would love the merchandise! I know you were thinking of doing Nashville this year. How far are you from Nashville? Just trying to figure out how far you are from me. We are 1 1/2 hrs south of Nashville.

I just checked & the full is 65% full & the 1/2 is 75% full

I have a sr today & it cooled off a bit when we got our rain so hopefully it will feel good.

Anne - I've only had the nerve to wear those t-shirts once each to work. Since I work at a tv station, we can wear pretty much whatever we want. Speaking of - that's why I wog at noon sometimes. I work 3:30am-11:30am. So, my noontime is like everyone else's dinnertime. And on days Chad works, he does a 3:30-11:30pm shift, so someone has to stay home with DS. I have a very short wog-window somedays!

Cam - you go girl! Awesome job and your goody bag was fabulous!

Dana - get better soon!

Dave - more :wizard: for your shin!

So, yesterday was supposed to be a 3 miler - but Chad took the Garmin with him & Zack to the lake. Argh! I then lost all motivation because I love that little toy! So, I decided that I would swap and make yesterday my rest day and do the 3 miles this afternoon when I join them at the lake.

I woke up this morning with my arm killing me! I have lymphodema, but it's very mild and flares up maybe a couple times a year. I thought maybe I just slept on it wrong. I dug out my compression garment, pulled it on, and off to work I went. When I got here, the pain/ache was so bad, I was nauseous. It's better now, but still aches. It finally dawned on me what did me in. Yesterday, I squirted Round Up all over our gravel part of the driveway (weeds were making me crazy). I guess all that trigger pulling did me in. :sad2:

So, now I don't know if I am going to get out today either. Exercise can make my arm worse (the whole movement of fluid thing), and wogging with this thing on my arm is going to be crazy hot! So, we'll see how it goes. Now I feel really guilty about not going out yesterday. I get a little crazy once I am on a training schedule and feel like a failure if I skip anything.

Kristi - you are absolutely NOT a failure!!!! You are doing so much more than many by just making the attempt! Take care of yourself! An extra rest day is just important sometimes as the runs :goodvibes

Helen – I think the question was whether your pre-race packet ever got to you, but your response still had me :rotfl: I hope you enjoy a work-free weekend. I can’t wait to hear what you think of POTC2. I bet it will be awesome to see on an IMAX screen. The hotel/casino where we are staying has an IMAX theatre but they are showing Superman. I wish I thought the superman actor was a hottie, so I’d enjoy seeing him on the big screen, but alas, I think I may be getting old – he actually seems too young to be a hottie for that role. :confused3

Anne – I am so glad your workout went better this week. Please take it soooo easy so that you don’t re-injure yourself before DL. Thanks for asking about my partner. She said Howard pushed her but she felt so great about doing it. They finished under 27 minutes with an 8:41 pace. Awesome! :cheer2:

I checked the official results this morning and they were so “off” that I actually wrote to the race director to ask them to correct my time. It is off by 42+ seconds from what the clock said at the finish. Even Howard and Jess commented that I was 45:06 and my Garmin was close to that, so I know we were right. And that is more than 10 seconds different for the pace. I have done 11 5Ks with this company since March 2005, so I am hoping they will get this fixed.

Jess and Howard and I may do the Lance Armstrong event in Philadelphia on 9/10, but I have to check the training schedule and see if that would be okay to do a week before the ½. I am pretty sure I’d be okay, but I am going to think about it a LOT before deciding. The race last night was so awesome and for such a great cause, that I’d LOVE to be part of that bigger event in Philadelphia. It’s very cool – they have training sessions 2x/week leading up to the event, with professional trainers for bikers, runners and walkers. I am not available to do them because of the schedule, but that is such a great resource, if anyone is around the Philly area and interested. Terri?

Dave – I hope you get to spend your vacation doing all the things you love, including a bit of running, as long as you don’t injure your shins. I have to say I was shocked last night that I had shin splints for almost the whole first mile last night. That hasn’t happened in sooo long and I can’t figure out what happened. But, fortunately, the pain diminished to almost nothing and I was much better. I can’t imagine how you are tolerating that for running. I really hope you can get it resolved. In the meantime, remember that finishing the FULL is a HUGE accomplishment and certainly, without a doubt, within your reach.

Tiff – I’m sorry I don’t remember how old your DS is, but if he is old enough and interested and you want to, you could put him on a plane and we’d LOVE to host him for the 9/10 Lance Armstrong race in Philadelphia. You might want to look at livestrong.org to see if there is a race near you. The feeling at this race was amazing – very purposeful and joyful and all those yellow shirts and wristbands were inspiring!

Kristi – Don’t be so hard on yourself, sweetie. Don’t do anything that worsens your lymphodema. I know someone who has it and she says the pain is debilitating. Please take care of you. I hope you get to go to the lake and just relax. If you have to miss a training session or two, you’ll be fine. Just get back on track when you are feeling up to it.

Minnie – Have an awesome time at the Beach Club! BCV is our home resort (DVC) and we LOVE it there. We are staying there in January so be sure to leave some :goodvibes: and pixiedust: at the resort! :teeth:

Well, I am working today only until about 5:30 and then heading home to pack and head to Atlantic City. I think we are seeing Superman at 11 pm, sleeping in tomorrow, and then walking the boardwalk to find something for a light breakfast. Or maybe we’ll order room service – Jenn has never gotten to do that and would probably love it, IF she is up to eating anything by then. She still is so incredibly swollen and it has been 48 hours since she had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted. I am hoping she will be able to enjoy the time away with Mom & Dad and her Godmother and her DH all to Jenn’s self. (Ugh– where are the grammar police?)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! If anyone is doing any races, please be sure to hydrate really well and wear sun protection!

I do have pictures of Copper Mountain, but hubby and I are computer illiterate, however if you go to my husband's work website you can see some of the mountain. The website is: www.carbonate-real-estate.com
If you click onto activities and scroll down til you come to 2 pictures of a guy fishing, that's my husband. :goodvibes Let me know what you think.

Question: where do you wear a pedometer, on your ankle or your waist and why? I have always worn mine on around my ankle, but recently have been told that is the wrong place. Help.

T.G.I.F.

This morning I did my old standard 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1% with no running. I stayed up way too late last night and this morning I was toast. Plus for some reason I am sore all over. Could be a Lupus thing. I don't know. Plus for whatever reason I was so craving salt last night that I am retaining water like crazy. It almost didn't look like my own face looking back at me in the mirror. Oh yes...I'm tired and bloated. What a turn on, eh fellas??

Christa - Ohh, that's a very interesting job, but I'm sure also heartwrenching at times. No wonder you need to run! :goodvibes

Melissa - Ohhh! Thanks for the shopping hint! I think I'll do that as soon as I get back. :thumbsup2

Jackie - Ah you are my kind of girl. :teeth: Thats exactly what I did. Of course, in January I'll be kicking myself for that.

Dana - Oh no! :guilty: That stinks. Get better fast! :wizard:

Cam - Whooo hooo! :dumbo: You did great! I'm very proud of you! Yay for the goody bag. A girl can never have too many hair products or Kisses (or kisses :love1: )! You're comment about the new Superman being too young made me chuckle because that's what I thought too! Sad... I hope you guys have a great time this weekend. Do you realize you will be only a couple of hours away from me???? ;)

Helen - What do you mean "that's it, no more"? No no! :rolleyes1

Anne - We leave Friday night at 9:00pm. Already I can't wait to get back. I am so dreading this trip.... Hey, and for you...baby steps, baby steps! :thumbsup2

Dave - Tiff said it best - getting across the finish line is getting across the finish line.

Kristi - Ouch! I hope it's better today. pixiedust:

Minnie - Have a great time but I can't let you go without telling you this...I am crazy jealous! Take pictures please!!!

Minnie - have a great time at BCV! It's our "home" also.

Cam - I keep telling DH we should do one of the Lance Armstrong events. Chad had the same cancer as Lance and I feel like we should, you know? My best friend lives right outside Philly too - but I think 9/10 is way too close to DL for us. Have a fabulous time in Atlantic City!

My arm is feeling MUCH better. I am going to leave work and head up north now. I will definately do my 3 miles as long as my arm feels like it does. now.

Cam - WTG on the 5k! That is AWESOME! :cool1: I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 24 and they were so bad that my medical insurance covered them! :scared1: I had them taken out Friday and My coworkers got a good laugh out of me when I came back to work Monday...They said, and I quote, "Christa looks like the Cabbage Pach Kid from Hell"! My face was VERY swollen.

Monte - Haven't gotten to look at the pics yet, but I cannot wait! The pedometer..I have no idea! If it is working for you where you have it..I would not change it.

OK my WISH friends....I did my 12 miles today, even though I got in VERY LATE last night! I heard all of you getting me out of the bed @ 0600 this morning to run! I did 12 miles in 1:48....that is 9MPM. I tried to slow down a bit so I would not run out of steam.
As I was running, I thought:
I know I am running in the South b/c:
1) Everyone you pass smiles and says morn'n.
2) "Sweet Home Alabama" was my motivation to get me up East Blvd (a 1 mile + BFH).
3) I had to duck under tons of "Crepe Myrtles".
4) The main thing in the paper today is the Nascar Hall of Fame that is coming to Charlotte.
There was something else but I have forgotten.... :confused3
Also had my weigh in today at WW...I am under my goal! :woohoo:

Christa....all I can say is..... :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

OMG, the speed, being under goal...you totally rock, sis!

Morning all!!

Matt-- Great job with your 5K!! :thumbsup2

Judy-- Re: Running in the rain-- if I'm being a good little runner, I'll get out there in the rain, so long as there's no lightning involved. The way I look at it, there's a possibility that it might rain on race day, so lets get used to what that feels like. That said, snow and ice on the roads are a whole other thing.... I pretty much play that by ear and adjust if needed.

Beka-- Migraines are the worst, aren't they?? My first thought was hydration, but if that's not the issue, it could be blood sugar or it could be a low salt issue too. If it continues, I might talk to whomever has treated you migraines in the past to see what they have to say.

Robb-- I missed your question about the corrals too. I estimated my time at 5:30 and ended up in Corral C, and still had at least two other corrals behind me. For next year, I have no idea where I will end up since I did put in my proof of time from last year's race at 4:30.

Dana-- Sorry to hear about the strep. Get well soon!

Minnie-- I am unashamed to admit I am totally jealous of your trip. :p Have a great time!

Christa-- :worship: Wow, that's great!! I wish I could "oops" do 9 minute miles. :teeth:

pixiedust: pixiedust: for all those suffering with injuries... take care of yourselves!!

I was thrilled to get out and run yesterday afternoon finally. I did three miles averaging 9:06/mile pace. :thumbsup2 I was pretty proud of that. It finally feels like I am "training" again. I did map out my runs for the next 6 weeks so I have a plan to get me to the start of "official" training. Hopefully this will help get me off my duff a little better. :teeth:

It's a scary thought that I am 180 days out from the marathon trip today. :scared: At least I have the hotel(s), flights, ADRs, park tickets, towncar and race registrations taken care of...... now all I need to do is go! (oh, and that pesky "training" thing.....)

Well, I need to get to :beach: Happy Friday all!
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:
