Wk of Jul 2--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Guess who's registering for Race for the Taste? :woohoo:
DD13 has decided not to play club soccer this season so that she can play volleyball for her school. She's also decided to try out for the school boys soccer team because the girls team wasn't challenging enough :thumbsup2 All that means our fall weekends will be free and she wants to do Race for the Taste!

I did 30 min on the TM tonight...low and slow. I'm up to W7/R3, trying to come back slowly. The pod has released me so I'm clear for running again and it feels SO much better to be able to go, go, go! I can't wait to start training for the half!

Didn't we have some teammates running the Peachtree yesterday?

Judy...congrats on your 5K! Helen's right...the WDW half is a tearjerker

Matt...wtg to you and DW on your race! It's a tough time of year for racing!

Sonya...great pace! Tell us more about DS's trip to England!

Cam...is life settling down for y'all yet?

Christa...I know what you mean about confidentiality. There's a lot I can't tell about my day.

Kevin...welcome back!

Bekah... :welcome:

DD13 had her CT today so hopefully we'll have a final answer soon and we can put this all behind us. My aunt manages a urology practice in Ft Myers and had her pediatric urologist review the ultrasound. He said not to worry, but to go ahead and check it out. We'll just all feel better when we get the final report!

So hopefully the biggest question I'll have in the next couple weeks is...do I go to my high school reunion or not? :confused3

Greetings Team:

OK, I'm trying to emerge from my black lagoon this week. I attempted to alternate walking a lap and running a lap on the track again today. Actually I used the indoor track next to the pool at the gym so I walked 2 laps and ran 2 laps. The walking laps went fine, but the running laps were quite uncomfortable. I ended up doing about 10 minutes on the track, and then decided to put my swimsuit on, retreat to the black lagoon and swogged for 30 min. I'm trying to listen to my body and not injure myself further so I can train properly for the marathon. I'm getting nervous though. It's been 4 solid weeks of pool running, and my lower right leg still won't let me run.

OK, must admit I skimmed severely, so apologies to those I missed.

Terri - I am so sorry about all you've been through lately.

Judy - Woo hoo on the 5K!!!! :cool1:

Cam - We all have our off days. Put the last one behind you adn good luck tonight!!!!! :cheer2:

MelR - Awesome pic of the boy and awesome race! Give him my congrats! (Not that he has a clue who I am)

Kevin - Voice of experience here, "Get back on track!!!!!" Catching up is no fun!!!

Mel - Cool about Race for the Taste with DD!!! :wizard: For the CT results

Bekah - Welcome!!!

WOw, remebering weird dream of last night. I was back in HS at a track meet. I was telling coach and a friend about the marathon and trying to figure out how on earth I was going to run a 6 minute mile again. Breaking 90-second laps was tough. Yes, laughable these days when I am luck to break 11. :rotfl: Still trying to figure that one out.

Biked 13 tp 14 miles Tuesday night with a 49 pounds behind me in a trailer. DH had 49 + teh 4YO (30?) behind him. My db and I still had a hard time keeping up and he had no one. We've decided that next year dh gets all 3 and hopefully we can keep up. ;) DId I mention that was after 2.5 hours in the pool with the kids. ALmost good to be back today.

Hoping to do 3 tonight and start mandatory Saturday runs again.

Hi, everyone! Thanks so much for the encouragement for tonight.
Here I sit in my office with my garmin and my ipod charging and hoping it all comes together tonight.
I am feeling very pressured because 2 of my partners and DH are running this race and I am going to feel like a fool knowing they are waiting around 15 minutes or more for me at race end. I am hoping that will motivate me rather than bum me out. :confused3
Dave -- I am so sorry your shin is still giving you problems. I hope you are reassured knowing that you can walk as much as you need to at the marathon and still finish light years ahead of many, many people with a very satisfying bit of bling around your neck. ::MickeyMo

Life around here is calming a bit. DS is still away at his Johns Hopkins program and seems to be having a great time. DD17 had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled yesterday and had a rough evening but I am hoping today will be better for her. Thank God DH is home to take care of her!

I am planning to do my LW this weekend on Sunday because we are away tomorrow night and all of Saturday. Meeting some friends in Atlantic City to celebrate her birthday on Saturday, but we are going down tomorrow night (had a coupon for a free room) and will go see Superman at the IMAX theatre and eat some interesting food. Should be fun.

Next week looks pretty calm, too, leading up to DS's return on Friday and his birthday celebration on Saturday with a POTC movie and then a celebration at home. His birthday is Wednesday and it is sad to think of being away from him on his birthday, but we've arranged to have pizza and soda delivered to his dorm for his 9:45 pm floor meeting. Hopefully, he will enjoy the surprise.

Back to work for me. Have a great day all!

Good Morning,

Well, my attempt to keep up with everyone last week was pitiful. Every time I log on I am behind by pages and pages!

My update is that I have tried the elliptical and pool. I am in some pain after, but not during. So, I have clearance to do both. No wieght bearing activity at this time. I do feel some improvement and was able to walk about 3 blocks the other day to a neighbors without pain. So that's a start.

This will not be the week I keep up with all of you! I work tomorrow and then leave for Mexico for a week. I will attempt to stay on top of posts when I get back! :rotfl2:

Have a great week!
Maggie :surfweb:

Greetings all. :wave2:

Well, I think I started something. Last night DH asked me if I wanted to do the 5K route again, so I said sure and put out all my things so we could get up and go at 5:00am. When we woke up though, it was pouring, so....being the slug that I am....I went back to bed. :sad2:

Which begs the question.....when it is raining, what do you guys do? I guess if I had more then one pair of running shoes I might have gone, but I don't, so that was my excuse. I guess I could have gone on the TM, but like I said, I was a slug.

Kevin - YAY! :goodvibes I'm glad you're back! You're comment about Helen's packet made me laugh out loud, which, as you can see from my early morning post yesterday, wasn't easy to do because I was cranky. But you made me laugh so I am REALLY glad you're back!

Christa - OK now you've got me really curious about your job....CIA? FBI?? Hmmmm... :rolleyes1 My job is no big secret, I work at IBM. The problem I have is after ten years of this corporate world, well, I've lost my motivation. I think working in this environment sucks the spirit right out of you. It's become a real grind. The only good thing is that I have my own office so I can shut the door and do stretches if I feel like it. BTW my time was not all that great, I was just so happy that I could do it at all! :teeth:

RedSonya - Thank you for your comment. And yes, the training tips and the things you learn here are wonderful! :thumbsup2

Matt - Hey I think your times were pretty darn good! :woohoo: And yes, that one bizillion percent humidity will get you every time!

Helen - Oh thank you. It's good to know it's not just me. :upsidedow Hey, I passed "Running While Sobbing 101"! :lmao: Oh Helen, I really wish you were going this time... Want me to give Eyeore a message?

Mel - Darn it, you too? I'm thinking you guys are all working undercover.... :cool2: Ohh the Race For The Taste! I have to check that one out. Sounds to me like there's food involved! Oh Mel, GO to the reunion. You'll regret it if you don't. That's coming from someone who missed both of hers so far.

Dave - Ohhhh, nuts. That's not what I want to hear from you. :guilty: Are you wearing your W.I.S.H. socks when you try to run? They have magical qualities you know... :wizard: :wizard:

Jodi - I don't know where Southport is. I'll get out a map. I wonder if they have a website where I could register. Suddenly I'm like a 5K machine! :woohoo:

Carrie - Your shirt updates in your signature crack me up! You're so funny! :rotfl:

Cam - Hey, umm, Cam? You know all the casinos are closed, right? Oh what a nice surprise for DS's birthday! And those are great plans. I'm sure he'll enjoy them.

Judy -- Go to LLBean or someplace and get yourself a waterproof rain jacket. You will not regret it. There were so many times last year that I didn't go out because of rain and it really does break up your rhythm. I got a really awesome yellow rainjacket at the EXPO that has the 1/2 marathon logo on the front. It has kept me dry in a downpour and made me very, very conscientious about why I was out there in the pouring rain in the wee hours of a Saturday morning! :rotfl:

Yep. We aren't gamblers anyway, so we aren't phased at all by the casino shutdown. Everything except the gaming areas is open -- movies, restaurants, shopping. We are actually hoping it will be kind of quiet there with the casino crowds missing. The only problem is that we are eating at Carmine's, which is a deadly italian restaurant -- wayyyy tooo tempting!

Yay to all of you who have run races lately!

I am trying to post quickly while the kiddos play - ha ha. We all know how that goes!

I swam yesterday - it was the more interesting swim of the week where I do drills and use the flippers, kickboard, etc. interspersed with free-style laps. I am trying to decide between running and riding today - my bike's water bottle cage is on order so I don't have a way to take anything to drink.

Here is a question for you more experienced people: I am prone to migraines and get one almost every time I exercise. If I come home and take my meds, I can head off a major one, but at 5 times a week - that is a lot of meds! I am good about being hydrated before I start and have tried drinking water and/or gatorade as I run/ride. No change really. I am hoping that as I get in better shape they will decrease, but wondered if anyone else had any suggestions.

OK, adding rain jacket to shopping list.... :thumbsup2

Oh as you can see, I only pay half attention to the news. Remember I'm the same girl who thought Delware STATE was flooding when it was really Delaware River! :lmao:

Actually, you were right -- parts of Delaware were under 16 inches of water. Fortunately, it was pretty far south of here and didn't affect us. Just minor flooding here. Thank God our house sits up on a hill, kind of.

Hey, the sun is coming out. My partner said it is very muggy out, but at least we won't be running, walking, wogging in rain. :cool1:

Bekah - I don't have migraines normally, so I may be way off base here, but just in case it helps....

1. I get a migraine if I am running in the ehat adn not properly hydrated. At least 64 oz a day plus before/during/after (depending on distance) work out.

2. My db used to get migraines from low blood sugar during work outs. Make sure that you do not get hungry. I need to eat befoer and about every 40 minutes during.

Hey Cam - Good luck with your 5K tonight. Don't go out so fast you hurt yourself. Take allieve and stretch beforehand too.

OK Judy - 1) I am a LPC (counselor) and I work with child abuse, neglect, spouse abuse, court stuff ect...you get the picture. I work with the whole family. It sometimes gets out of control...running is therapy for the therapist. :goodvibes 2)Running in the rain...Just put on a hat and do it. I LOVE to run in the rain (if it isn't freezing cold out)then I put my shoes in front of the fridge to dry out.

Bekah - Sorry about the migraines. I have had a silent migraine while running. (not sure if you know what that is..) I was around mile 14 of a 19 mile run and suddenly my vision went very blurry and I got real dizzy. Not sure why it happened and hasn't happend again while running. I think I needed calories b/c after I took a Gu, and it got into my system, I was OK. Maybe you need to eat more! :thumbsup2

Nothing to report today b/c of meetings, clients all day long. My production co is also opening up a show Saturday, so we are practicing into the wee hour of the night (or shoud I say morning). Will run long tomorrow, I hope. It depends on how much sleep I get tonight...may have to push it to Saturday.

What a sweetie, Dave! Thank you! I have already taken the first dose of aleve and will do another around 5pm. Howard is coming by to play chauffeur for all of us so we don't have to walk to our respective parking garages, get out, get through the city and find parking at the race. He'll pick us all up so we can go to the race together. We'll put our goodies in his van and do the race and then he'll drive us back to our garages afterwards. I am sooooo spoiled!!! The really nice thing is he has agreed to run with my partner who has never done a race before, though she has been doing 3 miles on the TM several times a week for a while. I am sure he will enjoy having someone to run with. And I like her so much that I don't even mind that this gorgeous woman is running with my DH! ;) (BTW, she is also my WW buddy and she looks like Christa and I look like, well, uhm, Winnie the Pooh -- see my tag)

Actually, I am starting to look forward to the race. I'll be back later to tell you all how it went. Thanks again for your support, guys. I don't know why I am still so needy.

Last year's results show 829 participants, with 133 finishing with pace of 15:30 or longer. That is very reassuring.

Go Cam :woohoo: Go Cam :woohoo: Go Cam :woohoo: !!! Glad to hear you're getting psyched up for your 5k tonight. I'm sure you'll kick it :cheer2:

Go Cam go! :woohoo: Go Cam go! :woohoo: Go Cam go! :woohoo:

:cheer2:  :yay: :cheer2: :yay:  :cheer2:  :yay: :cheer2: :yay:

Oh Cam, you are golden!!!!!

Robb - I think I forgot to reply to you re: corrals. Last year, we estimated 5:30 and were still not in the last corral. I think we were in E and thy went up tp F on my side. There were 2 starts, though, so there could have been more like 12 corrals.

Cam - Here ya go :wizard: :cheer2: :wizard: :cheer2: :wizard:

Judy - if you go through sunny's site to sierra trading post, you can get a good deal on a waterproof breathable rain jacket. make sure it is breathable!

Dave - I'm glad cam brought up the walking. You can walk the marathon and finish w/ a really good time. (i've registered and I have no idea what the baby future holds - nothing yet- anyway, my plan is to train no matter what and run if i can and walk if i can't)

Went kayaking today. it was great and very relaxing. Not a very good aerobic workout, but fun, fun fun!
