Wk of Jul 2--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Terri, so very sorry for your family's loss! You are really being called on in difficult times. Like Jackie said, try and take some time for yourself. You'll be better able to help your mom. :grouphug: For you and your mom.

Terri -- I am sorry for you and your whole family. sending a hug to you and your mom.

Robb -- Thanks for all the info. I can't bring myself to do the heart monitor thing again. For 10 years, I had to monitor my HR at least 10 times a day. Sometimes it was way too fast to count, and even shut down some medical equipment when it got over 225 bpm. At some point, I am going to have to pay attention to it again, so I am absorbing all you are teaching. Thanks!

Well, the 5K was very hot and very humid and they changed the course on me. I was very unhappy with uneven terrain and hills that I can only see once I have to climb them. My shuffle wouldn't turn on this morning. So, I took my ipod which I forgot to turn on. I paused to start it and then it died about 1/2 way through and I tried to re-start it. UGH! I really depend on the music beat. It is "frozen" and I will have to figure it out before THursday night's 5K. Garmin said 3.2 miles in 47:20 (14:47). If the course was really 5K my pace was 15:14. Big difference.

Have a great 4th all! I am going to enjoy my day off with a book in the air conditioning. :teeth:

Yup, I got out there this morning. DH said it wasn't too hot... yah, but there was also no shade!!!! So I ran in the sun for 2.5 miles. Not a lot, but enough to make me happy. I keep thinking it is Saturday and I should be running farther.... but it isn't so I can do what I want. I also noticed that I run better when I'm not under pressure. My run this morning was really good. I jogged the whole thing except for 1 block in the middle of it and my warm up. Baffles me, I think I get nervous in races and start out too fast. Oh well, it's the experience.

Have a great 4th everyone!

Happy 4th to everyone!

Just reading through how everyone is doing (and wishing I was posting more often)

I am still healing from the sprained ankle. I was hoping to start some light jogging this week, so in preparation I tried to walk a little bit while pushing the boys in their stroller.

:sad2: :sad2: I learned I am not ready for anything more than light walking to get from here to there :sad2: :sad2: It has been over 48 hours and I am still in a lot of pain.

I am guessing my plans for the Race for the Taste are done. Hopefully I will be able to join you alll soon!

Judy - Sorry I missed you on my last post. Great job! :thumbsup2

Bekah - Welcome!

It never ceases to amaze me how I can just get into a good training groove, be focused and stay on schedule, and then something comes along to yank me out of it. :confused3

Exactly one month ago today (6/3), my aunt (mom's sis) past away from stomach cancer. She and Mom were very close, so Mom took it hard. I've been keeping my eye on her and she just started getting back to her normal self. Tonight my uncle (Mom's brother) passed away. :sad1:
He had health issues, but up until this past weekend, was doing ok. We saw him yesterday and he didn't look good. Got a call tonight that he passed.

Now Mom is a wreck all over again. We'll spend the next few days making arrangements for him, since we're his closest family (he had no kids and wife died years ago).

Terri

Terri--I am so sorry to hear this, I am sure this is a very difficult time for you and your family!

Oh my gosh, is it humid! I just did 3 miles - w4/r1:
13:51
13:33
13:35
40:59

I had a hard time today, but at least I had more consistent times.

Oh, and Judy - the WISH socks didn't speed me up today as I had hoped. ;)

Have a great 4th everyone! I am off to a family BBQ now...

The boy did his first race this morning. He did 1/2 mile and did it in just over 6 mins! He was GREAT. I will post a pic later. He got a race #, t-shirt (that actually fits and looks just like ours) and a full goody bag w/ some great stuff in it!

Phil placed 3rd in his age w/ a time of 22 something (that was his 1st 5k ever) and boy and I place 1st in the stroller division (not a big shock) I'm not sure of my time but it was over 30mins. I think i was more like 10min miles or over but I didn't run really hard and the boy and I stopped 3 times for him to get water. We had a great morning! Of course, I wore my socks!

Here is a pic (the only one I got and it is blurry) of the boy nearing the finish line

Terri - I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I wish you all the best in this very difficult time. Here's strength to help you and your family deal with this.

Thanks for the prayers and PD. I have a question that is very OT, but I figured if anyone can answer it, someone here can.

I'm trying to find a logo for the US Navy. I'm doing up the program for my Uncle's funeral. I'm using a photo of him and since he served 20 years in the Navy, I wanted to include the logo. I can't find one. I went to the US Navy website and captured a small round Dept. of navy "seal" kinds logo. But I thought there was something with an anchor.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

You should be able to grab a logo off of this page: http://images.search.yahoo.com/sear...&vf=&va=navy+logo&fr=FP-tab-web-t400&ei=UTF-8

The one that I most commonly have seen was the third image in (My dad was a navy man).

Hope this helps :grouphug:

Hugs to you Terri! What a hard time for your family.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am so excited about finding this - DH thinks I am a little crazy, but at least he understands my Disney obsession. ;)

I did get out and run last night - pushing DS in the jogger and with DD riding her bike with me. I think I need to take DS more often - whenever I walked he would say "Run! One, two three!" LOL I did pretty well for pushing the stroller, I think.

Today is my rest day and I am swimming tomorrow.

Melissa - I loved your picture! That is so cool!

Mel, Oh what an adorable picture!!!! That is just toooooo cute!!! Thanks so much for sharing!! Anne

Kind of drive-by here but I have to send my well-wishes out to Colleen before she takes off to Canada!!

Colleen - Best of luck on your half-marathon this weekend. Enjoy the time with your family. Travel safe.

Terri - My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Bekah - Welcome!! We're glad you've decided to join us.

Christa - :rotfl2: About the Mickey waffles for your girls. We've always got the Mickey chocolate chip peanut butter pancakes going on over at our house. Yummy!!! Rolling hills work well for me too...

Robb - I really should strap on the heart rate monitor again. Thanks so much for the info.

MelR - Loved the pics of the boy. Way too sweet. Congrats to both him and Phil.

4 miles for me this a.m. on sore legs. I still need to do three sets of 15 full-body pushups before I go to bed. I keep putting it off (hence, why I am on the computer!!) :confused3 I hate the pushups but love the results :cool1:

MelR - that picture of your son is awesome! It makes me want to get Zack involved in running as soon as he's old enough. What a cutie!

Just another quickie post - tonight I ran 3 miles on the threadmill (I hope over next weekend to make it back outside for runs).

Today - I also registered for two events:
1 - The 5k Ice Cream Run,Dave I'm not sure if I ever answered your question, at the end of the race they serve you Ice Cream. (August)

2- Is the Bigelow Tea 5k race. The headquarters of Bigelow Tea is in Connecticut. (September)

I hope to find a 10k to do at some point before my half marathon in October.....I would like to get as much practice in as I can running with other people - I always feel the pressure to run as fast as everyone else, instead of running my own speed (something I really need to work on - so that I don't end up really hurting myself).

Have a good night everyone!

Bekah - :welcome:

Melissa - GREAT picture! He is SO cute.

I gave up on the idea of running this morning. I looked at the forecast, and the combination of temp and heat index erased any hopes of beating the heat unless I was outside by 5:30 or 6:00, and it's a holiday so that seemed really unfair. But I did get on the bike tonight while I watched "The Capitol Fourth," so I managed 34:00 before the fireworks! (Would have used Terri's idea of riding with the Tour, but I watched the morning coverage and already knew how it turned out today.) The heat here is supposed to ease by Thursday - hooray!

Jackie

Hi guys - just a flying post to say to Cam - the freezing thing seems to be an ipod issue, they don't seem to like running. I know three people it's happened to, it works fine 'stationary' but when they start running they freeze up. Sadly because of daft New Zealand policy where they'll charge you $100 to look at it - even if it's under warranty - which you don't get back if the ipod isn't faulty (???!!!, it doesn't work, how can it not be faulty, but apparently their definition is different to ours) no-oen has bothered finding out why - it's cheaper to buy a budget MP3 player for running instead. If you do find out why it does it though, let me know and I can tell them all.

Well it's running club night tonight, have to do 10km, and I should really be donning my trainers about now, but my office is nice and warm, and outside isnt! Anyway, that's my lot, other than to send my condolences to Terri. Helen

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. We had a fun time camping. The princesses princess: princess: really enjoyed it. We ended up coming home a day early - as I was having allergy attacks and the weather wasn't great. But we all had a good time.

OK, yesterday I went to our high school track and alternated walking and jogging laps. I did 2.08 miles in 30.11 min. The walking felt OK, my right shin was still sore when I jogged on it. But I kept it really slow (just felt like I was shuffling along) and tried to keep it under the threshold of irritation. Each lap I jogged felt a little better than the last. I think I am going to do the deep water running again today to let my leg recover. I'm going to take it really slow and easy so I can get myself ready to train at the end of August.

I had a dream last night that I ran the WDW Marathon. It was kind of strange though because I had to just go down, run, and come back. I didn't have any time to meet any of our team when I was down there. And I kind of felt like I was sneaking in and sneaking out.

OK, I'm going to try to catch up with everyone now.
