Wk of Jul 16--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi All,

It was a beautiful morning for a long walk. :sunny: I finished 10 miles in 2:34:48, for an average pace of 15:28 :woohoo: :woohoo: Then I weeded for an hour at my DD's house. She is out-of-town and having an open house tomorrow, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a buyer.

Take care everyone!

OK, this whole waiting to find out if I have asthma thing is really bringing me down.

I've had exercised induced asthma since i was little. I am now on Advair and use a rescue inahailer.

Be very careful until you have seen your DR. Any chest pains or further trouble breathing that doesn't get better then please get yourself to the ER.

Take care :grouphug:

Dave,

I think you'll love the WL and WCC.

The WL is our favorite resort

Any questions just ask or send me a PM.

Pat, AWESOME!! I know you were a little concerned about you pace for awhile.. :jumping1:
Jodi, great job on your 5K! So glad that you enjoyed it!! :cool1:
Dave, good to have you back. Time with your family is so important!! Glad to see you are taking it a little easy on the shins. :thumbsup2
Beka, one day you're going to have to tell us what got you started and how long you've been doing this!! Great job on discovering the problem with the back brake, though! At least you know it wasn't you! :)
Sara, hope you get lots of rest tonight and a good LW tomorrow! :cloud9:
Sunny I'm right there with everyone else in being so glad that you found a doctor who might actually listen to YOU and try and figure out what is wrong. And to think, I was shocked when you had an MRI for 10 at night! 1:45 a.m.??!!! I've just never lived anywhere that I had to experience appointments like that. Here's hoping that all of his years of experience come together to help you!! pixiedust:
Lily, good for you!! You got out there!! :cheer2:
Cam , waiting for your 5K report...(Know you are out having fun... ;) )
I attempted my 6 miler, but only made 5.25. Just could not go any further. :sad2: Needed to take some GU, I'm sure. I went online to try and find a store that carried it in this area..did find one relatively close by. He only had chocolate, though...He has another shipment coming in at the end of the week. Hopefully, in time for the 7 miler next weekend!

Glad to hear everyone had a good race day today.

I did 30 minutes on the elliptical this morning and had plans to go to the track this afternoon. Unfortunately, thunderstorms changed those plans.

I'm heading to the beach for a couple days and will not have a computer. I'll check in when I get back. Gonna get a different type of workout by running on the sand :thumbsup2

I'm pretty new to this forum, but I was hoping I could get some good advice from my fellow runners.
I've never run in a marathon, or a 1/2M. I, and my son, signed up for the Disney 1/2M in January. In training, I've worked up to where my long run this past weekend was 10 miles on a TM (rained all day). (I was a little sore in my shins the next day, but nothing significant.) I kind of wish I had gone for the gusto and signed up for the full M, but it'll be nice to run the 1/2M with my son.

Anyway, I just came across information for a full marathon in Akron the last weekend in September. It looks pretty interesting. I called the number for the running shop that organizes the training for the marathon, and spoke with a girl there. I explained where I was in my training (I told here my long run was up to 8 miles, since at that time, it was only up to 8 miles). She told me that I probably didn't have enough time to get ready for the Akron marathon at this point. The training team's long runs are up to 14 miles, and since I was behind that, I might be better served to sign up for the 1/2M the following weekend.

I know most of you don't know me at all, and a few know me a little, but I'd still like your advice. I'm new to this running game, and I've only run to get in shape for other sports. I've been running fairly regularly to get ready for the Disney 1/2, but am intrigued to try a full. I don't want to get in over my head though. My thinking is that if I can run 10 miles straight (at about a 10min/m pace) now, I can work that up somewhat over the next 2 months. Then on marathon day, by mixing running and walking, I should be able to complete the marathon. Am I out in left field, or what?

Jen,
We learned about 4 years ago that our daughter had exercise induced asthma. Her life was basketball, and she was struggling to get air. She was crushed. She thought her basketball days were over. We went through a few iterations on her medications, but when the doctor found her appropriate treatment, it hasn't slowed her down one bit. Today, she is 18 years old, and leaves for college in 3 weeks, where she earned a full scholarship (partial academic, partial basketball) at an NCAA Div II school.

My point is, if you do have asthma, it doesn't have to restrict your activities. Work with the doctor to find the right treatment, and it'll be nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

Good Luck.

Denny - You may want to copy your post to tthis week's thread. The link is in Mel's thread. Things move fast around here! ;) My info says you should be around 14 by this coming weekend. You've been doing pretty long runs for a while, though. WHat are you up to during the week? The way you got up to 10, my gut says that you can do it. I would try to shorten your weekday runs this week and try for 14 this weekend weekend or keep your weekdays the same and go for 12 this weekend. You'll need to finaggle a bit, but I think it would work. You'll get soem good opinions form others, though.

Thanks Carrie,

I've moved my question over to the current week's thread.

To answer your question, I'm typically running 4 miles on my short runs during the week. And my goal isn't to run 26.2 miles, but to run/walk 26.2 miles.

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it.
