Wk of Jul 16--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Dave

Martha and I have stayed at the Swan perhaps 5 times in the past few years. The hotel is run by Starwood , pretty much like a nice Sheraton, not to the standards of a Westin or W. The rooms are nice enough, the location is really good if you're like us and spend more time in the EPCOT/MGM area, and the beds (Westin's trademarked "Heavenly Beds") really are heavenly. At the Swan you'll feel like you are at a nice conference hotel, and the clientele definately runs to adults (I don't know if your kids will be travelling with you). If you do this I would recommend you opt up for the rooms on the wings pointing towards the Dolphin which have a balcony. They are much more pleasant than the rooms in the "triangle" of the Swan. For last October's race for the taste Martha and I stayed at the Swan and with the teacher/faculty discount it is a good room at a very good price indeed.

We haven't been the the Wilderness Lodge for some years, the Lodge is a very lovely resort indeed. The lobby is multi-storied, very cool, you feel like you're in Yosemite or Yellowstone. The rooms are very nice and you know you're at a Disney resort, both from the price you pay and the feel of the place. The negatives of the WL (in my opinion) were very limited dining options and the transport by boat to the Magic Kingdom varies from frustrating to completely unacceptable.

Wow, going back in the time machine, we were at the WL in 1995 when our daughter was 10. It was the first time we had her there and she liked it very much (even if she didn't get the bunk beds she had been promised, grumble^2). We've not stayed there since, as she got older we spent far less time in the Magic Kingom and usually stay in the Epcot Resorts area, where there is far more action for a teen or young 20.

Getting to the start of the races (I cannot remember if you are doing the half or the full, sorry) from the Swan will require a bus. From the half finish you'll also need to take a bus back. From the full you can bus or if someone meets you at the finish with your admission pass, you can walk through EPCOT.

From the WL to the start of the races you'd either take the bus or make the short walk over to the Transport Center and take the monorail to the EPCOT station, which is a short walk from the staging areas from the races. From the finish you'd have to reverse this process.

Good luck with your choice. I can safely say that we have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian, Yacht Club, Boardwalk Inn, Boardwalk Villas, and Swan during our trips and I am always comfortable and happy to be at the Swan (+ I appreciate the $ saved).

I'm back home in Colorado this week, and this morning I ran at 5000 feet of altitude. I went slow and easy, and actually did fine, not like other trips home when I've gone out like a rocket and blown up all over the trail. It's always frustrating to remember that I GREW UP HERE and used to run hard and effortlessly at this altitude. This getting old and living in New England isn't good for my self-image.

Cheers to all

Craig

Hey guys - okay, about to depress everyone so look away if you don't need that today. Kitty didn't make it. Not only did she have the bladder cancer (a type only normally found in dogs I'll have you know cos she was so special!), she had a completely different type of cancer in her liver that was even worse. The vet gave her 2-3 weeks max so we felt it was best to help her on her way while nothing hurt. I am most red and puffy today!!! So thanks for all your pixie dust and PM's but at least we know we could have done nothing more.

In more relevant thread related news, I got out for 6km on Monday night, and tonight I am doing the 5k race that my plan tells me I'm supposed to do this weekend. As I don't know of a 5k this weekend, but I do know of one this evening am swapping that about a bit - and I'll then do two hours over the weekend instead. So, that's my news for the day. Not got the brain power to catch up with everyone else, but hope all good. Helen

Helen -- Sending you and Tim hugs, sweetie. I am glad you have the comfort of knowing you did what was right for the furbaby. You are in my thoughts.

Training plan had called for 40 minute walk last night (which we all know now that I blew off in favor of a carb orgy) and 40 mins cross-training tonight. I did the 40 minute walk tonight--
mile 1 (with warm up) -- ~14:20
mile 2-- 14:20
mile 3 -- 13:20
42 minutes -- 3 miles -- 14 minute avg pace. Nothing to write home about, but it is done. Hoping to make up tonight's XT session tomorrow night, though it will be an exhausting day at work, so I'm not sure I'll get to the gym.

On a brighter note -- food was under control today. Thank God. I swear I can feel every ounce I have gained when I "run". :rotfl:

Helen

Please accept best wishes from Lesley, Martha, and Craig. We're so sorry about your loss. One day soon you'll look back and feel wonderful about giving a loving home to a small friend, and receiving love back, amazingly enough more than you gave.

Sadly, today is not that day.

Helen - All I can say is so sorry! :wizard: and :grouphug: coming your way! You are so amazing being able to get out there and run during all of this.

OK everyone...funny story! I Took DDs swimming at the YMCA last night and..get ready, swam laps a grand total of 7 min. I know, I am a true endurance athlete for going so far! :rotfl2: I did it during adult swim, but now on to the story.....
I was getting in the pool during adult swim to start my laps and the life gaurd, who was maybe all of 16, said, "excuse me Miss, this is adult swim." :lmao: I looked up and told him I knew. He told me I could not swim during adult swim, only adults can swim now. :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: So, alas, I had to let him know I was, in fact, an adult. (But not at heart) Now I don't know if he was pulling my leg or really thought I was not an adult, but I don't care....I could have kissed him.

Helen :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Christa - Though the BC was not my favorite resort I loved being asked by the hot looking guy at Hurricane Hannas if I was over 21 when I ordered an adult drink  I'll be 32 this year so I really really  him!

Ok, I need help!!! I can't seem to get off my dead @$$, and work out this week. I haven't run even once and today is wednesday. Last Saturday I ran 3.5 miles, and it was such a stonker I think it made me dread running. So.... if anyone has any advice or motivation it would be really appreciated right now. I am determined to get up and run for 30 minutes tomorrow morning. I even went to my local running store, bought some more gu, and a neon green running outfit to help get me motivated. Here's to hoping something works.

Helen - That is so hard, but you made the right choice. It's not fair for us to let them suffer so that we can have them a little longer. Hard to tell your heart that, though. I can't believe it's been a eyar since we had ot make that decision. Craig's right, though, you gave that kitty a great home. Many don't get that.

Cam - Way to get back on teh wagon today.

I must admit. I did not feel well Monday and was afraid of a lightning strike, got home late yesterday and ate crappy because I felt sorry for myself for having such a long day. yeah, like that helps. If an hour meeting last night went 2 hours, I have no idea how long my 2 45-minute meetings will last tonight. So, looks like anouthr long one. :( I have to run tomorow! Got to get ready for the real training in just over a month!

:wizard: For everyone trying to train fo DL in this heat!

Helen-- :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Drive-by Post Alert--

Just wanted to quick update my training--

Tuesday-- Went to the gym and then ran in the mid-afternoon afterwards  and did 3 miles at 8:59/mile pace. :thumbsup2 I did very well the first two miles (the first in particular), but the heat caught up to me in the third mile. I'm happy with it, though

Wednesday AM-- Had thought about going long this morning, but there was just no gas in the tank when I woke up. I did 2 miles in 19:00, or 9:30/mile pace. I'll take it for sure considering how blah I felt about getting out there. I might try and get some additional mileage in this evening, but we will see.

I've got to dash...will try and check in later.
Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Helen - :grouphug:

Christa - :rotfl2:

Dana - I hope the new outfit and gu works for you.

Cam - Glad to see you back on the wagon.

Dave - The Swan is great and you can walk back there after the marathon instead of having to hop on a bus. The walk does the legs a world of good post-marathon. It is really in a great location. You won't be sorry. It is a very nice hotel.

I am still in lurker mode since a great DING fare came out for Orlando yesterday so we're going to take the kids on a SURPRISE trip in a few weeks. I am now scrambling to make it affordable. :confused3 With the DL 1/2 in September, Marine Corps Marathon in October and a 12 day WDW vacation planned for November/December, what on earth am I thinking? Let's not even speak of going back down in January for the marathon!! I guess I'll be living lean for a while but loving every minute of it. No greater joy than the look on my girls' faces when they learn we're on our way to the airport. We've done this in the past to them and hope to be able to continue.
I'll take memories over material possessions every time.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week. I am taking a yoga for runners class tonight. Hoping to get a good long run in this weekend.

A new outfit always works for me!
Gu! Ugggg...but I take it anyway... :stir:
Here are some :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to help you get motivated, but don't beat yourself up. Sometimes the only reason I get out there is b/c of all you guys!

Ran 3.5 at an 8:30 pace on the deadmill! :faint: I still was sweating so bad that a girl in the locker room thought I had been swimming. :confused3 Around 100 degrees today so it is HOT! I may take the JRT out to run a mile tonight after a meeting. But that depends on what time the meeting is over. :teeth:

I did 32 minutes on the treadmill... 2 minute walk, 25 minute jog at 4.2-4.4 and then 5 minute walk. I was pretty proud of that since I haven't gotten in as many steps in the last 2 weeks as I should. And the fact that I jogged for 25 minutes without walking, even if it was slow... wowzers it was boring!

Gotta go....

Helen :grouphug: I'm so sorry.

My pain drama continues... Yesterday I attended my first meeting on my new project (one that has the same potential of stress as the last one). It was over 2 hours long. I didn't think about the sitting part when I got there. I sat the whole time in agony and left in tears. I was so mad at myself for not getting up and leaving. The rest of the night was terrible. Now I have sciatica in both legs. This morning I couldn't even do the pelican with no good leg. I called the ns and left my message. Waited an hour and called back. I got an apt for tomorrow at 1PM, I think mostly because I burst into uncontrollable crying during the conversation. (note to self: drama works)

So I was very ticked off and called in sick. Spent the morning on a heating pad adn then went to the Y to do speed work :confused3 Yes, that's insane. What ever sanity I had before 10 weeks of pain has since left.

TM at 0.5 incline
I did 6X400 at 7.0 mph (8:34) with 200m walks inbetween at 4.0mph, then slow jog to finish it off with 6 miles in 1:09. Lots of wonderful stretching afterward. That's the best I ever feel, after working out and stretching. The rest of today has been ok. It's hard to explain to people that I can't work but I can workout :confused3 It's all about the sitting.

OK, time to put DS to bed. He requires some "stickers" first...

:dance3: :furious: :rolleyes1 :stir: :hourglass popcorn:: :bitelip:  :smooth: :moped: :cloud9:  :artist:

Helen - I'm so sorry to hear about your kittie :grouphug:

Guys, you are going to be disappointed in me today.....I really wanted to do my run tonight but got stuck doing work until late tonight. I know, I know there is always tomorrow night but I was really hoping to get more done :guilty:

This coming Saturday is my 5k -- Looking very forward to it! I finally picked up another pair of running sneakers. I live these days in my crocs and sneakers :teeth:

Okay - I have to check up on everyone --- Just been skimming here and there!
