Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Tried another heat of the day training today. Went kayaking w/ the boy this morning. We were in the same boat today (his little sit on top) This afternoon (around 2:00pm) Ran 5 miles (i ran the whole time and still did about 11:50 pace/ I actually average better than that for a full marathon (even goofy) The heat really saps my energy!

Another drive by-

Yes, MelR you can do the HIM. Your training last week proved that. We'll be looking for the race report:)

I was supposed to run 10 miles after today's bike(43.32 miles) but only made 9 in the heat. Finally took the USMLE Step 1 yesterday in Rochester- that was seriously a saga to get that to happen. Was the third date scheduled and it was the testing company's fault for both of the changes. Grrr. Training hasn't been so good lately but just classed it as a recovery period and will move on from here. I'm doing an ortho rotation at USMA at West Point right now. Typical day starts w/ cadet sick call at 0600 and then goes to between 1600-1700. 3 days a week in the OR. Then I get to try and get workouts in. Will be a little easier now that the test is out of the way. The schedule will get easier when I'm doing family practice starting in about 2 weeks. 5 weeks until Timberman 70.3 and 8 weeks until IM Wisconsin.

PD and happy training for everyone :wizard: :tinker:

Hi everyone,

I'm back from "the World" and had a great time. I have to admit I do prefer the WL and hope to return there on my next trip. The BC has a great location and pool area but it lacks greatly on the relaxation side that I soooo needed from this trip.

Maybe a cruise/wdw trip next time? Something to slow me down is badly needed. We still had a great time and can't wait to return.

Hope everyone is doing great. I don't have time now but hope to get back up to speed with everyone later in the week.

Hi there - no news on you know who yet, except for the fact that she's managed to remove her cathater and the bandage on her tail all by herself, I don't think the vet is very pleased with her!!!

I did my 90 minute run this weekend - in 1.57. Tim was coming to pick me up and got delayed so I just kept walking up the hills and running down them toward home until he appeared- I did 15km in the end, and I ache today!!! Tonight is supposed to be 6.25km which I think might be hurty, still good practise for Goofy next year. I'm very glad it's not so hot here, we've got about 62 degrees which is rather pleasant (for January!!). Helen

I haven't made it to the boards much this last week. Work has been crazy and the heat here is outrageous. We are in drought conditions also. I skipped my running group on Thursday because the temps were 95 when I left work and there was no way I was running in that heat. I think they still met and ran tho... YIKES. I did the treadmill instead and did that again today. We were camping this weekend, so no long run. And the temps were in the mid 90's all weekend also, so I am pretty much a chicken. I hope this doesn't hurt my goals, I just can't do the heat!

OK, I have to play catch up now.

Morning Everyone,

Didn't get a thing done last night/yesterday in training - but plan to hit after work today.

Spent most of yesterday with my Mom had a little bit of a cookout (really hot). While there I was telling my mother about the 5k that I will be doing this coming weekend and she thinks I'm absolutely crazy! mostly because both she and my step father have already heard how we are going to have record highs this week.....hopefully it doesn't continue on through the weekend.

Well, hopefully has a had a good weekend! I will try and check in here and there during the day.

Jodi

Saturday was my xt day, but since I was at the lake, I did a 3 miler instead. I don't have my running log here at work, but I know my total time was 39:22. After I got back to the "camp," I jumped into the lake in my running clothes! :teeth: What a great way to cool off! (Chad used to do this when he would run up at the lake, so I thought I'd try it)

Sunday, my wonderful Mom came upstairs to our bunks & got Zack while I was still semi-sleeping. Mom said she'd feed him breakfast and not to get up just yet since she was already up. WELL...I finally woke up at 11:30am! My parents took Zack out on the paddle boat, the motor boat, and swam with him the rest of the morning. Man, I guess I was tired. So, I did not do my scheduled 5 mile long walk/run since I did not have the heart to ask them to watch him for an hour + while I exercised. I will do the 5 miler today in place of my yoga DVD.

Christa
- a good friend of mine also has IBS and she knows all the restrooms along her route also. Not fun!

It feels really weird now to talk about a LR being 3 miles. That seems so short to me now, but that's what Bingham said to do so I did it. I was glad it was only 3 because I had a girls night the night before & didnt get to be until 11:30. And for me that is REALLY late! But I did the 3 miles in 14:26 pace. I was happy with this since I went out later than planned so it was hot & I was really, really, really tired. But I got those steps in!

Today is DS oral surgery. It's minor but a mom still worries when they put your baby under general anestesia. :sad2:

Kristi=What a great mom! It was probably nice doing a run by a lake too.

MelR-I agree with Lynne. With all the training you have been doing I think you can definately do a HIM. Go for it!

OK, here's my periodic mega post/catch up post.

mel - Hope things are going ok for you! Thanks for keeping us going each week!

jodi - Woo hoo for taking such good care of your dh, and yourself! That is the greatest compluiment!

Rachel - Have you tried sport beans. (Jelly belly, tase like gatoraid). Others use honey, jelly, red licorice. Play around. SOmething's got to help.

GoofyGuy - SOry about work. That's a bummer! ;) Congrats on teh 2 work outs and getting your blood sugar under control during LRs!!! I've only used the belt once and it was not greeat, but dh says you get used ot it. (maybe you can find a partner to carry it for you. ;) )

Jackie - Oh, the dreaded tTM! I was jealous of people who had them for really cold runs. I tried my parent's last year for 45 min. ALmost gave up after 15. FInally got to where I could let go and run, then I was sooo bored. Then, while watching fottball, our quarterback threw and interception and I forgot what I was doing and almost killed myself. NO, not an easy fix. :teeth: :worship: those who can handle it.

Tiff - :wizard: for the test results and for your ds!! FUnny, 3 miles for an LR just doesn't seem right any more, does it? ;)

CHrista -Please stay safe! You've had some scary close calls! Pop a waffle for me, ok? :teeth:

Pat - This heat is killer. I'm glad I'm not training for DL. (If I keep telling myself that, I might beconvinced. ;) ) Seriously, oiit's brutal out there. Be caerful!

Sunny - I said the exact same thing Saturday. WHen did 6 miles become hard. Heck, bby December a 10-miler was a quickie last year!

Cam - WTG on the 6.18!!!! Great pace!

MelR - Yes, my 3 milers are around marathon pace right now. I know what' you're saying!

Lynne - Holy cow! WHat a schedule! Glad your test is over with. Hope you can get your work out sup agian. I'm still in awe of all you do, though!!!

Minnie - Welcome back! I know what you mean a bout needing a relaxing vacation. I'm hping Alaska will do that for me with 4 days at sea. WHen I did DCL, though, that was not. The only day I rested was becuase we could not dock at Castaway Cay due to high winds. If you find that relazxing getaway,, let me know! ;)

Helen - More :wizard: fpr kitty! SOUnds liek she's recovering well to me! ;) WTG on that hill work!

Jen - Can you find a pool to run in or is there a local school with A/c that you can run in? This heat is wayyy too hard! SUpposed to get relief soon, though!

Kristi - WTG on your run! You did let yourself cool off some before jumping in the lake, though, right? Cooling down too quick can shock your system.

Well, we made it out the door ny 7 Saturday. It was still warm and oppresively humid, though. DH said FIday night that 8am would be fine, biut if I wanted to get out at 7, he would. Well, by the time we finished and teh shade was all but gone, he was VERY glad we started when we did. We did 6 miles at 11:02 average. Best I've done in a while, so I'm good with that. My legs felt pretty good, though, so I know it's just the heat killing me.

As dh said, doing 6 makes you feel like a runner again, even if it used to be a short lr. We hit the pool after (it was 87 degrees, so not shocking). That helped a lot and I did not get a migraine. Thank goodness, I had wayyy too much to do Saturday! Today's heat index is suuposed to be btwn 95 and 100, so it's likely a pool day for me, unless the rain comes.

Highlight of my weekend? Dinner with Solo and Heather and family last night! Very nice! Can you believe Heather flew her family all the way to MI just to have dinner with me & solo? ;)

Good morning everyone! It sounds like everyone had a good weekend. Stephen and I were in MI for a wedding, I did my 3 miles on Friday morning before we left and I was planning on doing another 3 miler last night, but it was so hot I ended up not doing it. Training is going to be hard this week, we have something planned for every evening, so I guess that means a lot of late night running. Good thing I'm a night owl!

Christa--You've been married for 14 years??!! Wow! Were you 12 when you got married? ;) Sorry about the IBS--that stinks!

Tiff--Don't you love the first couple of weeks of training when all the lr's are shorter than what you had been doing on your own? If only it could stay that way!

Minnie--Sorry you didn't like the Beach Club! Stephen and I weathered Wilma in the Beach Club Villas. How was the heat?

I better get started on my work, after being off on Friday, I have a huge pile on my desk. At least today should go by fairly quickly.

Just a little drive-by for now. DH and I were in Boothbay Harbor, ME for a wedding this past weekend and I'm wiped out from the travel. We went to the Y in Boothbay Saturday since it was so hot over the weekend and ran for an hour plus lifted weights.

Yesterday we walked for hours around town and I also did some pilates & yoga before the dreaded 7 hour drive home.

5 miles this morning for me on the treadmill. I'll be lifting weights during lunch today. I'm also trying to get caught up at work from what I missed on Friday.

I hope all is well with everyone on the training front and you're all keeping safe in this heat. I promise to catch up and check in once I'm able.

Best of luck to all in meeting goals this week!!

Good morning all!!

Sunny-- I hear you. For me, I don't think it's my body.. it's my brain. 6 miles just feels like a very long time when I'm out there. I need to toughen up stat!

Rachel-- I have a fairly iron stomach myself when I run, but I have heard good things about those sport beans if you can find them. If not, you might want to try to dilute Gatorade with water or try small amount of gel with lots of water. It's definately something you will want to play around with during training to find something that works for you.

Helen-- More :wizard: for your cat. My dog was the same way when they had to keep him at the vet for a few days..... he kept chewing through IV lines. :)

Minnie-- Glad to hear you had a great time!! Welcome back!!

Cam-- Great job! And Great Pace!

Carrie-- It was nice of Heather and crew to fly all the way up just for us. :teeth: I'm sorry I had to cut out so early. (As an aside, not only did they book themselves into separate airports, they booked themselves into two different Holiday Inns. :sad2: ) Great job on the 6-miler. I completely weenied out of mine on Saturday.

After my 6 miles of victory Thursday, I took Friday "off" but really pushed my gym workout. This of course led to a very sore 3 miles Saturday. I decided not to try and force anything Sunday... with the heat I didn't think I would be able to get very far. Instead, I took my dog to the beach, which should count as some kind of cross-training for sure. :dog: I did 2 miles this morning at about 8:50/mile pace, which I was very happy about.

My new goal for the next few weeks is to really try and enjoy my training. Once I get into the "real" training, I think I will be fully motivated, but I want to get there in great shape already. We will see how this goes. :teeth:

I better get to work....
Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:

Since no one here at work will share my extreme excitement...I'll bore you all with it!

I won a meet & greet for my favorite Goo Goo Dolls before their concert next month!

So, (to make this wogging-related) I have to make darn sure I get all my workouts in so I look good for "my Johnny." :faint:

(yes, I am a 30-something married mother, but still...)

Kevin :earsboy:

Yes!!!! I was going to comment on that for newbies. As I played every mind-trick I know to stay on the dreadmill for 6 miles I realized/recalled that half of the purpose of the LR is to train your mind to go the distance. It can get really fidgety on an LR... "are we there yet????? are we there yet??????" can't we cut it short just this once????? Do we really have to do this today???????!!!!! I had to keep reminding myself that I want to be able to do this, so I'm doing it today.

Kristi-- Congrats on the Goo Goo dolls! Don't worry, no one expects you to act like a grown up on this team, infact we discourage it :lmao:

I spent all of yesterday at a water park with the majority of Massachusetts and New Hampshire residents  It was hard to find a piece of water to call your own. But DS loved it. My Y plans went out the window. So today will be yesterday's plan, tomorrow will be today... and so on.

I need to call the neurosurgeon but I got to work without the business card so it'll have to be tomorrow. I just really, really want to know if I am suffering this pain in vain, or if my body is healing and I just need to be patient. I'm sure they don't have a crystal ball that will tell me the answer, but they *may* know more than me!

Lynn-- You live at least 2.5 lives!!!! I don't know how you do it all, but congrats!

MelR-- If anyone can decide to do a HIM 5 weeks out its you!!!! :cheer2:

Sunny

:rotfl2: Thanks for making this 30-something married mother of 3 laugh her butt off this morning!! No better motivation than that!! I would sure as heck want to look smokin' too :confused3 You go girl :woohoo:

Sunny - I know I'd feel beeter if you saw the neuro surgeon, or talked to him, too! Can't you do a web search for him? ;)
