:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Sunny - Have told Bree this too...It is hard not to compare and stress, but BREE DONT DO IT!:goodvibes LOVE YA GIRL! Friday!:hippie: /QUOTE]

Sunny & Christa - Thanks for the encouragement. As Christa knows, I psych myself out over the dumbest things. I do however wake up everyday surprised that I didn't lose this baby weight overnight. I mean I ate good the day before!:rotfl:

Helen - your 40 minute 5k seems lighting fast to me right now! Keep it up!!

Ran...well "ran" is a very loose term it was more like a walk with occasional "wogs" for an hour last night. But I'm out there doing it!!

Baby Lucas is up from his nap. Later!

OK, big gulp, I'm gonna try for the special mickey medal next year. Eeeeeeeekkkkkk! I barely did the half this year. But, I have a year to train. Right? As I was wobbling through the half, I remember thinking that there was no way I could ever do the marathon in that kind of heat and humidity. But that was a few days ago. This is a new day. My memory of the heat is fading and my blisters are healing. I'm going for it. :thumbsup2

In the meantime, next up for me (so far):

5K Valentine Run - February

Little Rock Half-Marathon - March

Nike Women's Half-Marathon San Francisco - October

:cheer2: Yea, Susie!!! :cheer2: I would NEVER have known you were hurting when I saw you after the half on Saturday!! You looked GREAT!!! Keep up your training and you'll get that Mickey medal!!! Good for you in signing up for more events!! You know, you have to tell us about those, too..;) :goodvibes Anne

Wooo Hoooo, I checked your post and came back 5 min later and you're not sportin' the Mickey!:cool1: :cool2: You are going to ROCK!

Good Morning team!!!!

Is there anyone on board here that went from from being a walker to being able to do the marathon?? I am starting to get scared and the marathon is a year away.

Please help relieve my fears you guys are the best.

Kim

YES!!!!! Now, I am one of the world's most stubborn people, so that helped, but 7 months ago I was totally out of shape and had never run at all. Well, a mile in high school gym class, but other than that, I was convinced that I could not run.

I started out by running 1 minute and then walking 3. Gradually I worked up to 5 minutes of running and 1 walking for my long training runs. This was over a 6 month period of time. The first few weeks were the worst for me, but it kept getting better. The other thing that really helped me was that I was training for a triathlon and was only running 2-3 days a week and swimming 2X and biking 2X. I really think that helped my cardio capacity without stressing my legs/feet too much. I highly recommend swimming to XT if you can. It was great for me.

I didn't start training until June, and I did it. If I had it to do over, I would have started sooner. ;) I had a whole litany of things I would have done differently as I ran/walked this year. But I finished! And that is so huge for me. :D

You can do it!

As for me, I have been hit with the tummy yuckies - I think a welcome home present from my family. ;) So, I have had no choice but to rest. It is driving me nuts!

My friend that came with me to the marathon is planning to run the Sarasota half. I wish I could tag along, especially if some of you will be there!

I am planning to run a 25K here in Michigan in May and then I am going to train for a few tris this summer. Then I am thinking about trying the Chicago Marathon in October. Has anyone done that one?

Bekah

Anne, Anne, Anne! I've been thinking of you. I'm so sorry I kept pushing food or drink on you. I was really worried about you after you left the VIP tent. What happened after that? Did you get your medal? I heard they found some more boxes but I couldn't find you. By the way, you are such a big morale booster! I love your spirited personality! :goodvibes

When you saw me, the blisters were tolerable because I didn't have to push myself by walking fast or running. By the time you saw me, I had also rested some. It wasn't until I took my shoes off later in the room that I saw the blisters. Two of them were over an inch long. I'm still wearing moleskin on them .... 5 days later. :sad2: Sorry, TMI!

Thanks for the great clipart, Sunny! :thumbsup2

By the way, I was one of the WISHers that you caught up with on the half run. You walked/ran with me for a few minutes before moving on. My running partner had on a TNT shirt. I kept telling both of you not to wait around for me. I was not in good shape. :rotfl: I'm also the one that you told not to take the Levaquin. I'm glad I didn't. My problem went away on its own. :thumbsup2

You rock, Sunny! I'm so glad you were able to get your GOOFY medal. :cool1:  :goofy:

Greetings Team.

I did nothing this morning.

I had everything all set to get up early and hit the TM, but when the alarm went off, well, I just didn't feel like it. Isn't that awful? Meanwhile, Charlie got up and ran six miles. Darn him.

Anne - I was thinking that I wish I could have spent more time with you. :yay:

Steve - It's not nearly as sad as being the first ones to leave the party! Enjoy it! As soon as you get back it will feel like you never went at all! If only work days went by as fast as Disney days....

Susie - Oh no! I hope you find her! :wizard:

Kim - Don't be scared. Let me tell you this. I was - and still am - 40 pounds overweight. I have NEVER done anything even remotely athletic in my life. A year and a half ago I fell off a horse and snapped my ACL. I had to have surgery. As part of my PT I started walking on the TM. Then one day thereabouts I was on the boards planning our next WDW vacation when I saw a post from Cam. She mentioned the Half. She told me I could walk it. I was ecstatic! I said YES I"M DOING THAT. Where that came from I will never know. So I started walking more and more on the TM. The year I spent "training to train" built up a good base for me, and also got me used to doing it five days a week. I read MfM, and then chose the Walk The Half program. At some point I started jogging a bit, then running a little. And that is how I finished the Half last weekend. Slow and steady. So that just goes to show you it's not impossible to come from nothing and do the Half. If you are planning on the Full, I'm pretty sure you can do it the same way. Start slow, but start. Everyone told me training to train was very important, and they were right. Gradual increases in distance and speed. That was the ticket for me! Oh yeah, and I hung around here every day getting great hints and tips! Oh yeah and one more thing - Take the amount of nervousness you feel right now, multiply it by about a bizillion, and that is the amount of :woohoo: happiness you will feel after you have done it! It is SOOOO worth it!

Ok, let me at least try to look like I'm working (While secretly looking up local race schedules...) :surfweb:

Hey all! just back from the gym--did a 5K on the TM and then some weights. Not a great workout, but not terrible!

susie--will you be sporting some WISH wear at the LR half???? I'd love to meet up with you. Maybe even hang for awhile during the first half since the courses and start are the same!

Okay, time to hit the showers and play with the kiddos!

party: Oh, teammates!!! One of the neatest things has happened and it's all because of YOU!!!:cool1:

I've been asking my SIL and my DD if they wanted to join me for the Minnie. Now, SIL(40+) is in no way, shape, or form an athletic type person. Never interested in sports, thinks DH and I are in a cult...:rotfl: whatever!! I get an email from her yesterday asking me to work up a program so she'll be ready for the Minnie!!! I nearly fell outta my chair when I read that!!! After immediately calling DH at work, we decide it would be best to talk her into doing the 5K. Once she found out there was a medal for that one, she was all good to go. Now the training is going to be interesting....

Then last night, I'm talking to DD. She and her friend, Beth, attended the Illuminations Dessert party on Sunday. DD has been into rock climbing and yoga, so is more aware of the fitness scene. She tells me that while at the dessert party, Beth turns to her and says, "Look at these people. We could really do the marathon!" DD thought that I might be offended at how Beth said it. I told her that was EXACTLY what we try and get across to people. That with training ANYBODY can do the 1/2 or the full! Turns out that one of Beth's life goals has been to do a marathon, but she always thought that you had to 1) run it, and 2) have a runner's body! (whatever that is!!) So they have already bought MfM and are signing up for Minnie!!:woohoo:

Good morning, WISHers!
I'm a little bummed because I was set to go to the gym today and the roads are bad because of SNOW. Hopefully the roads will clear somewhat, but the temperature isn't supposed get above freezing today. Guess I'll have to do my elliptical at home.

I did 5 miles on the TM Monday and Tuesday, plus an hour of weights with my trainer Tuesday as well. Took yesterday off and did housework.

I have a job interview tomorrow for an assignment that will start a month from now. So hopefully I'll get that and my workout/diets habits will be so ingrained that working won't have any negative effects. The good news is that the job is closer to my gym than my house is.

Good morning WISHers!

Glad to hear everyone is getting back into the swing of things. I think I'll get on the TM this evening for a few miles and start XC tomorrow.

I signed up for a 5k for next Saturady (20th).

Anne and Matt - That 5k (Chiropractic Run for Health) is in Destin. You going?

Okay Team I need some help....

(okay okay I know what yall are thinkin and that wasn't nice :rotfl2: )

Anyways.... I really want to start back training. My back/hip still cause problems but I since I refuse surgery I need to work past the pain and get with it. Any ideas on a way to start back to prevent further injury?

Such as stretch before or after? Start with a short distance? Treadmill or venture back on the road?

I'm worried but man I just want to get back with it. Being a slug has come to an end :thumbsup2

Have you talked to an orthopedist or physical therapist about non-surgical options?

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!!!

I got back from the WORLD at 1:00 am and had to go to work today. I have done NOTHING yet, just cruising the boards and tearing up as I tell everyone about my AWESOME experience. Unfortunately, I really have a lot to get done, so I have to buckle down now and work. I leave on Monday for a convention. I plan to spend the weekend getting my race report and pictures posted.

I have to say tho, I would never have finished without the team support. This is the best group of people I have ever met. I planned on doing the 1/2 and then be done with it, but after this weekend I can't stop. I am so inspired by EVERYONE. I ended up doing the 1/2 much much slower than expected and I walked more than normal, but I finished. And I think I would have given up if it weren't for all those green shirts screaming at me at so many spots along the course. It was fabulous!!!

OK, Have to get some work done. I promise I will work on my report this weekend!!!

Hi Jen:wave2: It was great to meet you at the Wilderness Lodge. Congratulations on completing the 1/2! Good for you!! You did awesome!!!

Anne- That's awesome about everyone signing up for the Minnie with you! :cool1: I bet it feels great knowing you're going to have a hand in changing their lives and helping them get healthy. My family experience was a little different. My Uncle said, "If Dena's doing it, I KNOW I can do it!" Isn't family wonderful?!?!? Sigh... :rotfl: :rotfl:

I just may see you at Disney for the Minnie 5k. I'm trying to decide if I should try to waddle 3 miles 7 months preggo.

Anne-- how great! You're setting your family on fire with your enthusiasm and example:cool1:

Minnie-- That is exactly the place where I am. I refuse to have my spine clamped together when they we're openly puzzled at my symptoms not matching the MRI:confused3 I promised myself after Goofy I would get aggressive about finding a dr who will take 5 seconds or more to think about my case. Surely the fact that I can run 1 1/2 marathons but not sit through a 3 hour flight means something... anyway, for now my plan (having no expertise) is to avoid impact cardio and vertical spine compression weight lifting, do lots of disciplined stretching and try to do lots of deep water running. That's a real hard comitment because the whole pool schedule thing. But I honestly could barely walk through the air port once we hit Logan, and Monday and Tuesday were nearly unbearable. I know i have to get answers, make changes if I'm going to be ready to race again next January. We'll do it together!:grouphug:

But today is much better. I just got back from the gym. I did baby upper-body weights and 45 minutes elliptical and feel great right now!

Sunny

Geezzz.. to busy at work today but had to stop in and say Hi!!

Dave, Bekah, Judy and Maherae. Thank you all so much for the encouraging words:grouphug: , you have helped relieve some of my fears. You have all done so amazing you must be so proud. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea reading all the trip reports but I think you are all so amazing.

I am training hard and will make a final decision at the end of May which race I am doing. However, I will also keep an eye open to see how full registration is going. I know in my head I can do this, just not sure if my body will come along for the ride:rotfl:

Have a great day all.

Kim
