Wk of Jan 7--WISH Walking/Running Club

I am so proud of the entire WISH team. I have shed so many tears tonight reading marathon reports - particularly Sunny's and Cecilia's, and Cam's story of her fall and Sunny's message from her mom. It's obvious that no one would have made it through without support from this group, and I can't wait to be part of it in 2008!

Jackie

Mel - Congrats on the win. I presume that with early mornings and late nights now, you are definately ready for work. :rotfl2:

Just to let you know, Lynnda (crzy4pooh) is planning on doing the half next year and I am either going to do the full or Goofy (need a little more time to figure that one out).

By the way if you wish for more heat during the Sarasota half, we may have to bop you in the head a couple of times. ;)

Bill

Terri, so sorry to hear about your blisters hope you are feeling better soon.

Kim

Terri-- I am so sorry to hear your feet reacted so terribly. I can't imagine how much pain you must have been in and how hard the decision to stop must have been. But you are a Goofy finisher, '07 just wasn't meant to be your second. I wonder if a sports dr might be able to help you figure out the blister problem. I was very disappointed that I didn't make it to any meets or meet up with anyone after the races, too. I'm thinking a solo trip might be in order in the future;)

Kevin-- If your reading, please post a quick "hi" so we know you're ok. I've been thinking of you.

Sunny

I got blisters on the bottoms of both heels, on the side of one heel, on the ball of one foot and I have a blood blister going around one of my toenails.

Terri

Oh Terri,

OMG your blisters sound so painful! It was rough out there on Sunday. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Colleen

Colleen, Sunny...coming back next year?

Hey Mel,

I sure hope so! I would have to work on MelR, Dave and Steve. The first half just flew by running with these guys, it was fabulous.

I also have to let the dust settle on this one first before I talk to DH about it. ;) He is still contemplating Boston in April. He has been in semi-training for it, but work has been getting in the way for him. So we will see??

I hope so, too. For me there are many obstacles. One is the obvious, I need to figure out what's going on with my bod. Two, I have to balance this Disney/race addiction with my family's interests. DD has missed out on big vacations because she doesn't like Disney. Three, that pesky thing called money...

But I must admit I'm already feeling a sense of urgency to pick my race and register ASAP! It's only January 10th:faint:

BTW, I've added the '08 Donald clippe.

If you come to Boston, I'll be part of DH's scream team!:cheer2:

Ugh. This is depressing. We need a Post Marathon Support Group. :guilty:

Anyone else suffering from Post Disney Depression? I got it bad. :sad2:

I forgot to mention that I took Sunday off. Is Scream Teaming considered XT? Then took Monday off. Actually, I got a GREAT massage on Monday. Then yesterday morning did 20 @ 3.8 @ 1% on the TM.

I realized the thing that hurt the most after this weekend was my face. From smiling so much. What does that tell you? :goodvibes

However, that is now over, since I am back at work.

On the way home we had landed and were waiting for our suitcases to come out, a gentleman was looking at my medal and came up to me and said "Now, what's that all about?" I told him how we just did the WDW Half and he said "WOW! That's a lot of miles! That's wonderful! You must be so proud! What an accomplishment!" He was so sweet! I told him I wasn't so much proud as I was amazed that I did it at all. He told me I SHOULD be proud. That not too many people do something like that.

Lisa - Wow, I never thought of that. The EMS guys told me I was dehydrated. I don't know how they knew that though. I thought I was drinking enough. I was packing 20oz and took some at every water stop except one. Yeah, maybe I should have walked more, you might be on to something. But I was so aggravated over the no medals thing. OK, next time I'll remember to keep moving. That's a good idea. BTW, it was great to meet you.

Matt - Wow! That Mary Peters is one lucky girl! :thumbsup2

Anne - I just have one thing to say to you now that I have met you....Anne....I love you. You are SO MUCH FUN!

Christa - OMG You so totally rock! :woohoo: Congratulations! But darn, I REALLY wanted to meet you. Next year for sure!

Bill - It was so great to meet you guys! Congratulations!! OK I'm sitting here waiting for the Half Marathon part.... :rolleyes1

Oh Sunny, that letter from your mom...:goodvibes She's really something. So I see where you get it from.

Yeah, Kevin? Check in please. :rolleyes1

Hey do you think we can all identify ourselves in the Team picture? I met so many people I can't remember a lot of names and faces. I'll start a thread...

Sunny - Your mom's response was so absolutely moving. You are a very, very lucky woman to have such a supportive parent. No wonder you are such an incredible, inspiring woman yourself:banana: .

Heather - Congrats on registering for Goofy:cool1: .

Bill - Glad to hear Lyndda and yourself will be back next year.:cool1:

Cam - I am sorry I didn't learn of your race experience until after I returned home:hug: . I hope your wounds are healing.

Terri - So sorry about your poor feet!! I hope they inspire you to go Goofy in '08.

I am basically in lurker mode since my mind is still shot from the weekend and the auditors won't cut me a break at work. I did run this morning. I better sign up for the Minnie before it sells out...I can't make any promises on a race report yet. I have to say that my DD's really made me so proud last weekend with getting up each day at 3:45 a.m. without one once of hesitation or complaining:love: :cloud9: . I wrote my DD's and DH little thank you notes and gave them out at mile 17 during the marathon. They really liked them:) I am feeling quitre blessed these days...

Happy recovery/training to all this week:woohoo:

I love hearing all the stories from the weekend! Keep them coming! It's keeping me motivated!! I did another 4 miler on the TM today--37:00 and adjusted the incline from 0%-4.5%. Gotta work those hills! Only 52 days left until my first 26.2--supposed to do 16 this weekend but it's supposed to thunderstorm all weeked---so we'll see--can't imagine doing it all on the TM! Have a great afternoon all!

Terri, how awful!! :grouphug: My feet were screaming just reading about your pain! Sounds like a good suggestion Sunny has, though. You should see someone NOW, while they can see the blisters and help you figure out what is going on. :wizard: :wizard:
Heather and Helen, You ARE  !! Helen, did you move to Australia? What a great way to see the world!!:cool1:
:welcome: Blueroses, westcliffemom, tiberius,TXAng!
Good to see you back, Runninglilo,Cingoutload, and MouseDogMom!! Jackie, I'll miss you at Minnie!!
westcliffemom, Yes, this is the place to ask any and all questions having to do with walking/running/jogging/swogging/swimming/biking!! I only have a year with this group. They are the best!! Everyone is so willing to help from their experiences. THERE ARE NO SILLY QUESTIONS!! Not even the, "Do you think the zebra stripes on the leggings will make me look fat?" was not taken seriously!!:rotfl2: PLEASE ask away!!
Sara,
The only blister I came home with is the one on my left index finger from ringing a cow bell for hours on end
THANK YOU so much for being there!! It was so GREAT to see Erin and then you coming down that last stretch. You two really gave me a MUCH needed boost!! FANTASTIC marathon time!!:thumbsup2 What sweet DD's!!
sap1227/Christy Great race!! See you at Minnie again!!
Sunny, What a WONDERFUL mom!! She has been battling the doctors with you, having to watch you deteriorate, then inch back to health...and to support you in your Goofy attempt!!! Wow!!!
wfloyd/Bill, It was great to see you and Lynnda and Billy at the meet! You looked GREAT at mile 12 of the marathon. Congratulations!!

I am just amazed at all of you that had to return to work on Monday. You are AWESOME!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

In this post-race period, I thought this inspirational quote might be encouraging.

Life is a continual process of letting go…
and moving forward and letting go…
and moving forward
For there are times when our souls are set on fire
and deeply cherished dreams must die and we are forced once again to
create new visions
To weave new tapestries from the fragments of the old yet these new visions,
born from the fire of wisdom at the deepest level of our soul,
may well become far more powerful, more expansive than what once was…
And as we weave and mend, rearranging the pieces of our lives into patterns that reflect our newly won strength-gained-through-struggle… we shall survive, go on and ultimately… thrive… not despite our immense challenges,
but truly, by living through and with them

Does anyone find it hard to stay motivated to keep running after a race?
I always do.
Keep the reports coming b/c they are keeping me motivated to stick with it. I am struggling with starting from the beginning again (I had forgotten how hard it was), and I don't do well pushing myself so reading all these great reports gives me encouragement to keep getting out there.

Supposed to run this afternoon, and made some possible plans to run with Christa on Friday morning. Maybe she'll be a little sympathetic towards me since I just had a baby and all :lmao:

I wouldn't count on much sympathy-- she is a lean mean running machine:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

M2cents: As you ease back into it, don't compare yourself to where you were before, that can get really frustrating. Just enjoy the process for what it is now. With EQ near by, you'll be whipped back into shape in no time!

Hi,

Just wanted to post and tell everyone how much I appreciate your stories. I'm looking forward to reading more of them, and race reports, as I get to know you all. And it'll help keep me motivated as I move from walker to runner for my first race--Goofy '08 (thanks for the clippie, Sunny). I don't know if I'm crazy for trying this, or just goofy for Goofy (does that pun ever get old?) but I know I'm not alone. That's pretty cool.

Oh, and I hope that WISH is like the HM...room for one more? Even if I'm a dedicated couch pototato more than a dedicated runner?

Hi again everyone... glad to see everyone checking in... I can't tell you how much you all inspire me.... I have lurked quite a bit on the WISH boards... but plan to be more of an active poster... :) I promise to get my pictures up over the weekend. I am just nuts running from work and then the hospital where I stay till 9 or 10 o'clock..(or until they kick me out!) Visiting with my neice! Those of you who saw me on the phone for the beginning part of the Dessert party ... I was talking to my sister getting an update on my neice.. she has been in the hospital since last week... went in right before the marathon.. and it took every fibre of my being not to get on a plane and head home... but they forbad me from doing so!! So.. as an update.. she is doing MUCH better.. is off the respirator and breathing on her own!!! :) It will be a few months recovery time... but she will be okay! That's what counts... My mantra through the last 2 miles was.... every step I take is every breath she takes... I guess it worked!! :)

Thank you to all of you for your support and encouragement! You are all such great people!

FYI.. I have some .... ummmmm... interesting photos of CAM... LOL!! Just to give you all a heads up! LOL!! :) Do you remember which one's I am speaking of Cam? ;)
