Wk of Jan 7--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey all!

Ran 4 miles yesterday. It took me an hour and I made a spectacular face plant on the sidewalk during rush hour traffic. So embarrassing!! I only scraped up a knee but my ego is crushed. You'd think I would have prayed I didn't get hurt, nope, I prayed that no one I knew saw me!!!

The lungs burned, the legs were tired but I made it. I'm longing for the day that I can once again run a comfortable mile. Do any of you remember feeling that way? Well don't take it for granted ;)

As I sit here listening to Lucas scream in the other room (we're teaching him that napping in his crib and not on mommy is a good thing) I'm fantasizing about getting us both out for runs in the spring.

Later!

~bree~

Oh, Cam, I am SO proud of you! Get lots of rest.

Congratulations on your new shiny Mickey medal!

The only blister I came home with is the one on my left index finger from ringing a cow bell for hours on end:rotfl2: .

:rotfl: Sara, too funny! It was great seeing you and your girls on Main Street during the half.

Your time is awesome! You did so well in those conditions.:cheer2:

Cam--it's great to hear from you. Sorry to hear that the marathon experience wasn't what you'd hoped. But, I wanted to let you know that I am just amazed by you and now you have that Mickey medal to show off. I never knew your whole story until this weekend while ya'll were on the course I was reading the "what's your inspiration" thread. Wow! What a story you have! I hope you recover quickly!

I have to say that reading all these race reports is getting me really nervous about my marathon in March. For some reason the marathon doesn't start until 8am, which means the temps will more than likely be in the 60-70s at the start--and hearing how much the heat effected our teammates, I'm worried about how warm it will be toward the finish here. But at least here, the number of participants is much lower, so there shouldn't be a problem with water/gatorade being available--also I'll be wearing my Amphipod (thanks dad for the xmas present) with a full water bottle. Oh, and I don't know if ya'll remember me getting a sick feeling when I looked at the course for the Little Rock marathon b/c of the hills--well, here is the quote from Runner's World, "Any marathon worth it's salt has a few hills, let's just say Little Rock is a little salty!" ANd the training shirts this year say on the front "What hills??" like it's a joke!

Well, I think I'm going to skip my SR today--it was supposed to be a 3 miler--will get 4 in tomorrow--will try to work some hills. Have a great day all!

Cam - I am so sorry to hear about your fall. Congratulations on that Medal, and I hope you start feeling better soon. You are one tough chick!!

Bree - Cherish those moments of him sleeping on Mommy, believe my little Lucas does not fall asleep on or with us very often. We have learned to take every second of affection he is willing to give.

Well, since Sunday DH has decided he wants to try to start running with me. He wants to try to run the Gate River Run with me here in Jacksonville. I am feeling great, after Icy Hot last night I woke up this morning with little to no soreness at all. So it looks like I am going to take a slow walk/jog with David tonight to try and help him get started. I hope to stop back in and talk to everyone later, but for now I am off to put my Lucas in his bed for a nap!!

Cam - Oh Cam...Oh you poor thing. You must be hurting. But I just have to tell you, when we saw you at the Yacht Club...I was SO PROUD of you! I didnt know then that you had fallen, and I feel so awful that you did - but man, was I proud of you! Cam, you did it! YOU DID IT! I'm sorry it was awful for you though. I have to say, having done the Half and watched the last part of the Full, I have no interest at all in doing it. My husband, on the other hand, already has his training schedule figured out and did five miles this morning to get started. He's planning on registering for the Full as soon as he can. But the Full looks too tough for me. Oh Cam, I'm so sorry you are hurting. I'll call you later today.

Sunny - Hey Sunny, did ya have to wonder who the lunatic all in lime was, dancing around the Yacht CLub with the WISH sign? :rotfl: I got all excited when I saw you! Did you hear me yelling "OMG That's Sunny! THATS SUNNY!" Hee hee. Way to go, Superwoman! I'm so proud of you!!

I still have to get to my race report but I have to say....I am SO DISAPPOINTED I didn't get to meet Dave or Christa. I was so looking forward to it! :guilty:

Hey, can anyone else not get their oficial results? I was able to look both Charlie and I up yesterday but today I can't get it to work. :confused3

BTW, may I just add one more thing? It really stinks to be back at work. Mel, I hope you don't mind, I took your Team picture and made it into my background. It gives me something happy to look at.

Okay, guys, I am back to apologize for the melodrama (well, Jenn had to get it somewhere, right?) I have just been so emotional about this whole experience. Now I've had coffee and I can actually try to make some sense here.

I really want to congratulate every member of the WISH team and to thank every member of the WISH scream teams. What an awesome bunch! There are so many inspiring people here, including Sunny and Lily who just blow me away with their strength of character and determination. How in the world either one of them finished Goofy is a story that must be told and heard. And the experience of cheering for everyone on Saturday and then to see those same people either at the start or out cheering on Sunday was just amazing! :grouphug:

For everyone who couldn't make it to Orlando this weekend, this year of getting ready for 2008 is going to be awesome and next year's marathon weekend is going to be even better!

ETA: Oh, geez, I'm sorry, Judy. I am fine. The only things that hurt are my blistered feet. Seriously -- absolutely no aches and pains from the event itself, just my clumsiness! My hands are only covered to keep them clean and everything else feels so much better already. And Carrie explained to me that the non-fall aches and pains I had during the race were because of heat and hydration issues. Seriously, the event was hard for me because I had never coped with heat for any extended period (see, all that TM training time might have been better spent on training in the hot sun!) and because of the cuts and scrapes. I just had no idea how much the heat would take out of me. I can't wait to tell you guys all about the positive stuff!

Wow Cam you are such a trooper! I think my post must have come in the same time as yours because I just now read your report.
You should get your Mickey medal put in a shadow box with your bloody socks! Wouldn't that be a cool story to tell people when they see it? Not only did you fall but you fell with 19 more miles to go and you kept right on trucking!
You girl in my opinion are hard core!!!!
I'm glad you're not seriously hurt, and that even though you didn't have the greatest experience during your first whole marathon you want to get back out there and do it again.

Thank you, Bree! I can't wait to share the marathon weekend experience with you next year. I will never forget that you were the first WISHer I met at the 2006 event, when we were on the bus to Trail's End. You give that little guy a "smoochy kiss" as we say in my family and tell him he already has a fan club out here just waiting to meet him.

Good morning everyone!

Hoping everyone is doing well. I posted a somewhat cryptic race report over on the race report thread.

Man, what a weekend! I just wanted to say again, it's an honor and a privilege to be part of the WISH team. Everyone has made not only me, but my DW feel welcome and it's much appreciated.

The Friday meet was a hoot! Anne - you need to be a little more enthusiastic! ;) :rotfl: j/K Thanks for the shirt.

It was nice meeting and talking with everyone. To those we didn't get a chance to meet, I apologize and hopefully we'll see you next year.

The 1/2 was a blur. I spent the entire time trying to take everything in. If you saw and yelled to me and I didn't acknowledge, please forgive me.

Running through the parks was really cool! :thumbsup2

Judy - How are you doing?

Cam and Rhonda - I saw you guys as you passed through MGM Studios. Rhonda, I'm the dork who told you guys to smile. I was trying to get a picture, but my camera wasn't cooperating. Cam, hope you're doing ok.

Like I said, it was a GREAT weekend! So much so, yesterday I registered for the 2008 marathon. I figured I have six months or so to get my mileage up before the training cycle starts. The DW thinks I'm nuts. But, I asked her, "You've been married to me for 22 years and you're just now discovering that?" :confused3

I guess I better get back to work. Have 115 emails to go through today. Why can't the world stop when you go on vacation?

Yeah Vic!! The year will fly by and 2008 marathon will be here before we know it. Be sure to stick around and we will be there at the finish line with you!

It was great to meet you on Friday night.
Colleen

Judy - How are you doing?

Vic - I'm doing great! :thumbsup2 Thanks for asking. Where you there in the parking lot while I was kissing the pavement? Gosh, how embarrassing. I don't even remember who all was there. I blame it on the dehydration.

It was great to meet you too! See? I was well behaved and didn't try to look up your nose or anything that would cause you to go all military on me. :rotfl: Did you like POR? Was this your first time there? It was our first time. We were in Alligator Bayou, Lodge 16. I thought it was a great location.

Oh we can register for next year already? I'm off to tell Charlie! :woohoo:

Colleen - Thanks, and it was nice meeting you too!

Judy - Yep, I was there when you were laying on the crash cart. ;) Don't feel bad, I nearly fell out a couple of times standing there. I was one tired puppy. :lmao: Do you remember Charlie putting your medal around your neck?

Everyone was well behaved and in good moods. :rotfl:

This was our second stay at POR. We were in Alligator Bayou also. Lodge 17. :rotfl: The last time we were there we were at Magnolia Terrace. I like Alligator Bayou much better and I'm going to request that location for our next trip.

Good to hear everyone has made it back save and sound.

I can't wait to be part of the team in 2008....can we order shirts now...huh, huh....:rotfl: just kidding, I do love them though you can tell who was on the WISH team.

Get out! You were right in the next building? I can't believe that! I looked all over for a guy in a sherriff's hat.

I think I sort of remember Charlie putting the medal around my neck. If not, I can at least make that part up. :rotfl:

Woo hooo! I did it! ;) I posted a longer report on the marathon thread...but I didn't end up wearing my WISH shirt because I was afraid it would be too hot and heavy. I am now kicking myself for that, but I WILL next year. ;) Oh yes...next year! :rotfl: I am going Goofy. :yay: It was such an amazing thing to be part of!

I did cheer for all of you WISH-ers as I saw you and tried to say hi to the scream teams, but I think only one heard me. Who was near the Yacht/Beach club around 6 hours? I tried to say Go Wish team, but there wasn't much oomph left in me. ;)

Congratulations to all of you who ran and thanks to all the cheer-ers!

Me, too! I soooo WISH I had my WISH shirt on for the full!

Yes, Judy I knew who you were on the Boardwalk and I heard you! I can't express how much it meant to me to have caring people screaming my name in my hour of need!

Cam! Oh I am so sorry you fell. I am also so glad you posted that first "gut feeling" post before you had a chance to compose yourself more. Those are the memories that are worth posting; in their most rawest form. Don't apologize for any melodrama!:grouphug: I can't tell you how many times you came to my mind (and prayers) during the race. You are truly amazing!

Sunny

Here are some of the most bizarre things I saw:

During the half, I saw a young man dressed as Peter Pan. That's not bizarre for Disney, but in that heat he was wearing long green thermal underwear (shirt and pants) with a felt-like peter pan jacket and big hat. I wouldn't think that was humanly possible.

During the full I saw a Jafaar: Man wearing black long sleave compression shirt and compression tights with the full Jafaar headset:faint: I also saw a woman speed-walking with feather wings (not light Tinkerbell-type wings) these were big, looked heavy and covered with feathers! I also saw a man carrying a full sized American Flag (I saw him last year, too).

All I can say is WOW! I could barely wear my light clothes and carry my fanny pack!

We saw a couple in Incredibles outfits! They were in front of us at the start of the Half, but then we saw them in the Full! :faint: I don't know how they did it! They must have been so hot!

We saw the lady with the real feather wings too. I couldn't help but think at some point they must have really started to hurt her arms.

I only had on my WISH shirt, tights and AmphiPod. That was my limit!

Howard and I saw a woman running the half wearing a neck brace?? She is hurt so badly she needs to wear a neck brace, but she can run a half marathon??

We also saw Mr. Incredible and the guy carrying the full size flag.
