Wk of Jan 29--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Forgot to mention that I got my plaque from ASI today. I ordered the one with the photo and the half marathon logo thingie that has my name and finish time. Looks really cool! I think I'll be able to drape my medal and WISH scarf over it!

Helen...does that mean we should go ride Everest after the Kitchen Sink meet? :crazy2:

Jodi, let me know how you like the Windsor Pilates.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

I like it - I've started it about three weeks ago, although not steadily.....I still like the gym way too much! To be honest, it doesn't look like they are doing much but you should do feel it.

Good morning everyone! Jodi - Let me know how that Pilates goes. DH & I are considering taking a class for eight weeks at night. We're just trying to figure out how to squeeze yet one more thing into our week. BTW, I love that picture in your sig. You're really very cute! :yay:

Judy

Hi Judy, I like Pilates - at least Winsor Pilates :goodvibes - I've never tried a class just the DVD. I like it because it gets me a way from lifting weights all of the time.....I build muscle too fast (and trying to loose weight, not gain).

I also really liked Spinning class - that was so much fun.....Unfortunately, they got rid of all of the classes at my gym....but that might be another good workout for you and your husband.

Jodi - Hi  Glad to see someone else out there spells our name right :thumbsup2

Jodi

Hehe - I know :thumbsup2 , there aren't many of us......plenty of Jodie's and Jody's.

Hi Everyone,

Just catching up on the thread - I wasn't feeling so great for a couple of days but feeling much better and got back to the fitness center tonight....Did some weight training, ellipitcal for 20 minutes, and treadmill work for a total of 3 miles going between 3.8 and 5.5 (speed).

I'm happy with my workout! :thumbsup2

Have a great night everyone,

Jodi

Morning Everyone! :wave2:
I just officially signed up as a WISHer! :yay: I recently celebrated my ONEderland achievement with a trip to Disney World to do the Family Fun 5k and got inspired to train for the 1/2 Marathon in January. I was so jealous seeing all of you walking around with your medals!!! Congrats!! (I'm secretly dreaming of doing the Disneyland 1/2 in Sept. depending on how training goes.) Either way, I can't wait to do my first WISH event all decked out in green!

Nice to meet you all,
Dena

Good morning everyone: :surfweb:

lizdotcom99 - yup, I definitely have been chatting more than running this initial couple of weeks. :lmao:

Nancy - good luck with the "Run the Universe 5k" this weekend! Have a blast.

MelR - Sand toys! Brilliant! I don't know why I didn't think of that. My DD5 princess: loves sandboxes. However, I think the days of 50 degree temperatures here in Rochester are going away now.

Mel - I'd be curious to know more about the rates for a group of rooms for marathon weekend. Even though I have not officially signed up for the marathon yet, and have a lot of work to do before I can commit to it. Would it only be available to DVC members?

Liz and Helen - and any others suffering post-marathon blues. Just know that your experience and enthusiasm is infectious and is getting me really excited to experience it next year.

Jodi - Wow! I'm really impressed with your workout at the gym.

Dena/RunningLilo - Welcome! :wave2: I just joined this WISH thread a couple weeks ago, and everyone has been so helpful and friendly. I'm excited to try my first marathon next Janaury at WDW.

Have a great day all! :yoda:

Welcome Dena-I will be at DL for the 1/2 along with several of us. We would love to have you join us! Keep us posted on your training. This is a great group.

Mel-Yea, I would be interested in checking into the block of rooms. My parents would be coming again too, so we would need 2 rooms. However after having multiple Disney trips this year, I am going to have to do a budget trip for that one but from what I saw, we definately want to be onsite for the race! That's cool about your plaque!

Nancy-hope your cold gets better before the race.

I have a full day today, I'll have to let you know if I survive it!

DAve - Hand in there with dd. That's tough. Your story made me want to hug her and shoot her at the same time. LIving with that for a year would make me cukoo. BTW - KeenHo (Howard, Cam's dh) posts here too.

Cam - DH asked about Howard last night. I'm assuming he's continuing to feel better.

Liz - Hugs and congrats on the job. Talked about a mixed blessing. At least you have tiem to train, though. ;)

Mel - FYI - I hear EE is smoother, but similar to BTMRR. You should give it a whirl.

Helen and Sunny - SInce taper my appetite is sooooo much better. Now that I'm not on a constant upward push like I was all last year, I'm seeing a little weight loss. Maybe you 2 should become slackers like me. ;)

Goofy 08, hmmmm....

I did just over 3.5 on my 40 minute run last night. My foots continuing to improve.

I got my marathon CDs the other day, but after prinitng the start photo last night, I realized it's not our start. Must be the red one. I'm bummed!

Funny things noted after getting official pics:

1. I remebered teh annoying soudns that the timers made. Holy cow! DO they have any that wil lnot drive you nuts or is that just teh added brainewashing feature that makes that noise?

2. DH does not recall Chip, Dale or Pluto at the finish. However, on of the fish pics had him reaching to slap a chipmunk's hand. Nope, he doesn't remeber at all. lol

Welcoem Dena!!!! WTG on reaching onederland!!!

Good morning all,

You WISHers are so busy.

Dena - welcome

So today will be my first r/w since Saturday's LR which I ended up walking most of. I am a little nervous it will feel as miserable as the last one. I am happy to get back to the gym. I find it difficult to exercise with 3 kids at home.

At least DD is feeling better and back at school today. So, far the babies haven't shown any sign of getting ill.

Sunny - Someone said they break a sweat when read about your workouts. I understand that. Your amaze me. Were you always an athlete? Did you always workout like this?

Hoping everyone has an excellent day! :wizard:

We didn't have enough interest last year, but is anyone interested in trying to get a group block at one of the resorts? We'd only need a minimum of 10 rooms to schedule a block and could do it at multiple resorts. When I looked into it last year, the rates were pretty good for the group block. We could take a peak and see what kind of rates they'd offer this year.

Mel - DH and I would be interested. I will have an AP but would also be interested to find out rates for a block of rooms. POFQ or POR would be my first choice.

Mel - No chance you're going to be in Orlando today, is there?!

I'm off to Orlando in a few hours  DD4 drew a picture for Mickey and Minnie that I am supposed to deliver today. I woke them up saying I have a date with Mickey tonight. I then let them have chocolate cake for breakfast :rotfl2:

Discovery of the day - If you want to be a runner, you have to EAT!! I had a great run this morning when I realized that I cannot run at 4:00 a.m. with only eating oatmeal at 5:00 p.m. the night prior!! I have always run on an empty stomach in the a.m. but had previously not been consuming only 1100 calories a day. Lesson learned. So very glad to have my identity back again :cheer2:

I will probably be absent for a few days while traveling, so I have everyone has wonderful training runs/walks this weekend.

MelR - Best of luck with your race this weekend!!

Welcome, Dena

MelR-- sand toys, duh! Why didn't I think of that???? A built in sand box at the track.

Sara-- Have fun!!!! I learned that same thing about eating and running. The week of Thanksgiving I did WW exactly as it is prescribed and lost 6 lbs. My running took a serious nose dive! Guess it has to be slow and steady weight-loss to sustain the running.

Maggie-- Oh thank you for calling me an athlete. Actually, I was never an athlete. I went out for lacrosse and field hockey in high school but I stunk at it. I've had spurts of high activity and lulls of couch potatoe syndrome all my life. My current "spurt" started about 4 years ago. I hope I dont' fall back into couch potatoe land, but I'm sure you'd all come looking for me it I did!!! Actually, my periods of inactivity were usually due to circumstances out of my control. And I didnt' become a runner until a couple of years ago. In my early life I tried and tried but I'd always bolt out the door at top speed, poop out and get discouraged. It wasn't until this late in life that I learned the secret power of the wog!!!!! And as for the weights, for some reason I am intrinsically strong so it came natural to me. Oh thank you for this opprtunity to talk all about me :teeth:

Lynn-- I love the Feb race offer but I have been really struggling with my desire to train and race and my overall time commitments. I keep hoping my family will get hooked so all my running doesn't keep taking me away from them. Its a really hard balance. I find myself feeling guilty and feeling the pressure of everything just about all the time. :guilty: If I do a Feb race its going to have to be local.

Sunny

Good morning everyone. Finally, today, a little :sunny: in New York!

I have good news and bad news.....

Good News: Three minutes! :woohoo: Three minutes! :woohoo: Three minutes! :woohoo: I jogged for three minutes!

(For those of you that are new, that may not be as totally pathetic as it sounds. I had ACL replacement surgery in August and spent two and a half months in a knee imobilizer. But to be honest, prior to my accident, I couldn't even tell you when was the last time I actually jogged or ran! :rolleyes2 So I'll take ANY improvement!)

So my TM workout this morning was 45 min @ 3.7 w/15 min @ 1% and a 3 min jog @ 4! :cheer2: Hey, I'm happy with it! :thumbsup2

Bad News: :sad2: This morning I put on a skirt and sweater that I haven't worn, well, in a really long time. HOLY CHRISTMAS I am FAT! I have a roll around my middle that I swear says Goodyear! Oh and BTW, one of the "benefits" I have found from jogging...I can tell you were all the major FLAB is on my gut and rear end! :furious: I need to stop eating. Sorry, Christa, but I can no longer drool over your sig pic. I can't even look. One glance and it will go right to my hips.

Where's the "I'm a big fat pig" smilie????

Sunny - Where's your picture?? I liked that pic. You looked way cool. :smooth:

Judy

Dave -- Thanks! I missed those last night. Dealing with my very own melodramatic princess: I'd like to tell you it gets better, but just wait until hormones kick in, or they are pressured about homework, or boyfriends, or college applications, or friend drama, or wanting to drive their car, or . . . Well, you get the picture! I can't imagine dealing with 2 girls! My DD17 is giving me more grey hair than my hairdresser can keep up with. Thank God so far DS12 is a bit less "high maintenance"!

Cam - Has Howard started his new job???

Yes, thanks for asking. He really likes it, too, :cloud9: so it seems it was really worth waiting for.

Minnie -- I am so sorry that you are going through so much pain. I have nothing to offer but a  and some :wizard: I am glad you are being aggressive about trying to track down a diagnosis and treatment plan. I will be thinking of you.

Nancy -- Good luck to you and Barry on your race this weekend! :cool1:

RunningLilo-- Welcome to WISH! I am so glad you found us on this training thread! We are going to have an AWESOME year getting ready for Marathon Weekend 2007!

Carrie -- Thanks for asking about Howard's health. He has been feeling great and has been training for his 1/2 in March and the Delaware Marathon in May. I am really pushing the water with him so that he stays healthy. Please, please, give huge  to your sweet DH!

Judy -- 3 minutes!!! AWESOME!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: See, we knew you could do it! Bet you had your magic feather with you, didn't you! :teeth: :dumbo: <--- Oh, geez, dont' think that little guy has ANYTHING to do with your "bad news" -- He's just the cute little guy that thought he could and DID, as far as I'm concerned! :teeth: I still think whoever created that smilie needs to add a feather!

WOW, that got long! SO much to catch up on here!

My training is going, finally. Last night I did 20 minutes on the bike and 30 on the elliptical (wish I could have claimed all those calories, but alas, I don't really believe it either! ) Oh, and I jogged to my car because it was so cold out. :rotfl2:
Then, less than 9 hours later, I was up at 5:15 and went to the gym for 45 minutes of weight training (that reminds me, later today, I am going to put my WL details in my journal so that I can keep track of my progress)
I am hoping to get back there tonight for the one hour yoga/pilates class. I am hoping I will be better at it this week. At least I think I can handle "come to heart center" as long as it's not while I am standing on one leg, with other stretched out and raised behind me with my eyes closed!

Have a great day, everyone! I miss you all when I am busy working. :guilty:

Morning everyone,
I'm actually at work- just wanted to say hello and I think I am caught up for the week's posts. :thumbsup2

I got a call from my physician telling me that my MRI looked pretty good, except I had a baker's cyst on my knee. (named after the MD who identified them- not because bakers have them) So, I have to call him back and find out what the next step is? :sad2: Probably just physical therapy to improve the looseness of my knee joint.

Have a great day!

Solo-- are you there? I just talked to my friend about the Alaskan marathon. She ran the Fairbanks one, not the midnight one in Anchorage. She said the Anchorage one is slightly down hill and a good qualifier. Sorry to alarm you!

I'm just back from the gym. I did lower body weights.

Sunny

Judy :lmao: Be thankful you don't have wall-to-wall mirrors. At my gym I got to experience the jiggle AND see it all at the same time :crazy2: There will be no more talk of fat pigs and such. You're an athlete in training, your body will show it soon if it doesn't already :cheer2:

As for the picture, I got tired of seeing myself everytime I read the thread!!!!
But thanks!

Judy, too funny! I gained about 6 pounds since the marathon and I can really feel it too when I run. Like Sunny said, before long it will start fading away. Keep at it Judy, you are doing great!

Sunny thanks for the guidelines on weight training. The 8 reps without compromising form and 12 to fatigue. I have been wimping out on my weights, so I increased them yesterday and I now have the jelly legs today. Feels good! :thumbsup2

Cam, glad Howard is doing so well physically and professionally! :bounce:

Mel, I too would be interested in the group rate for rooms for next year. Wait a minute I am not registered yet, oh well, still 11 months to work on DH!

Also, Mel, did you say we could have a number of different resorts to choose from within the group?

Sunny....P-U-LEEASE! I've seen pictures of you.

I'm POSTIVE you have NO JIGGLE. I'd bet money on it! :thumbsup2

Gym??? No, no, I'm not ready to do this outside of the privacy of my own home yet, thank you very much.

Judy

Judy - I second what sunny said!!! We wishers are endurance athletes, we don't talk about fat piggies!!!! That is why there is no fat piggie smilie!
Great job on the 3 minutes and i like the smilies that went w/ it. I was singing the douie fresh song that was "six minutes, six minutes...."

Sunny - that is so funny about the mirrors at the gym. When i was running on the tm last week, and trying to get someone to talk to me, i got distracted and ran crooked on the tm. i almost tripped and then i realized why the tm's have mirrors behind them... it is so everyone can enjoy the fall from every angle!!!!!!! NOT COOL.

Sarah - have fun at WDW. Good move with the cake!

Today is bible study/mocha day. I'm hoping for a big nap. I'll also popping anti-inflams. I think i hurt my (look away sunny, look away) knee mountain biking yesterday!!! I was just really aggressive in my riding and i think i did something funny to the joint. It only hurts on hills (EEEEEKKKKKKK) Not good since the ENTIRE 31 miles are made up of hills!

As far as the rest of the week goes, I'm kayaking tomorrow, but that is it! No let work (some taper huh?) :confused3 I have been thinking about how to get a drop bag to the top b/c i'm betting that i'll want something substantial to eat (more than gels and sportbeans) I am really scheming on how to carry edamame!!

Boy needs me, must go!!
