Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Nothing exciting for me this week. I didn't feel well this morning so put off my 8 miler for tomorrow. I am officially registered for the Princess half. CMM is not looking good...my mom has Field Day at her school on that Fri so likely won't be able to come up and hangout with the girls.

Great to see so many new folks joining us!

Terri...congrats!!

Tracy...how was ING?

Zalansky...howdy neighbor! I just told DH today that we really need to do one of the Gasparilla races one year.

Good training everyone!

Hey team,

Hope everyone's having a great weekend.

I'm headed out for a run Sunday morning. I attempted 8 miles last Tuesday and Thursday, but the legs vetoed that. Ended up with 6 miles each day.

Hopefully 8 tomorrow. Start of a whole new season, so I'm not going to push it.

This week will be staring slowly for me. I gotta' work tomorrow, So Monday I'm going to try to bike & run.

I have a 1/2 marathon in 3 weeks that I have to prepare for. My double secret goal is to break 2 hours (like THAT is gonna' happen!).

You guys all rock!

Hello Everyone! My name is Katarina and I am new to the WISH boards. Here's a little about me: I'm a sophomore theatre major at WVU. My main ambition in life is to be a performer in WDW. It's been my dream since I was 2 and saw my first butterfly in Spectromagic. Disney kind of rules my life.... I have auditioned and passed the audition twice, but WDW hasn't had any spots open. (Okay enough of that lol)
I would love to join this group- you all sound so wonderful already! I'm very new to running. Running was always something I dreaded- but recently I have gotten very out of shape. I usually have a dance class that keeps me at my normal level, but it fell through this semester. I need to get healthier again. So I have decided to start on this journey. I've read some really great stories on here and am excited to start.

I am starting with the Couch to 5k program. It looks great- easing into running is going to be great for me.
I really want to do the Everest 5k challenge (if they have it again) this fall and maybe even a 1/2 marathon next year. I'm taking it slow- I know that's how it's gonna be. :goodvibes:

I also have some other good motivation other than getting back in shape: the first time I suggested me running in a 5k or marathon in Disney to my mom, she laughed at me... lovingly, I guess. So I need to prove it to her- and myself. Thanks so much everyone - I'm really excited!

I also have another half marathon coming up in 3 weeks. I have taken the last 2 weeks off from my cardio training to just enjoy being a little more lazy than I was for most of last year. But now it is time to get back to the running. I was going to try to use this as a chance to PR but I have a friend that wants to do the race with me and they want to walk most of it so I don't think a PR will happen.

I guess we will see what happens next, huh??

Bryan

Thanks Laurie and Debra for your advice.
I was looking at my Marthoning for Mortals book last night and it has most of the training doing a R3/W1, but eventually near the end you work up to R5/W1 for the full. This might be a good plan for me with my knee. I really would like to try to run it the whole way, buy my knee is usually spent by 13 miles so I know I probably wouldn't be able to pull it off. Does anyone know what Galloway does? I might do a R5/W1 next time I go out just to get an idea as to what kind of overall pace that might end up being for me.

Oh, and welcome Katarina! :cheer2:

Hey everyone

Welcome Katarina!!!!!

Sitting here by the computer trying to decide if we should take the plunge and sign up for Goofy 2010. I wish we didn't have to make this decision so soon but know if we don't do it, we will regret it....OK off to register:scared:

Hope everyone had a awesome time at marathon weekend. As always it was a blast to see old friends again and to meet new friends.

Tracy: Hope you had a great day.

Off to get in 4M

Have a great day all!!!!

Hi everyone, I thought I would jump in while the thread count is relatively low.
I plan on doing the Expedition Everest Event and the 2010 1/2 Marathon, it looks like I'll have some good company. :)
For those that don't know I'm a walker, with an occasional jogging spurt thrown in. I've been able to start the New Year off with some good walks and great cross-training but now I'll have a week not being able to work out because of work travel and then a few days helping with a friend recovering from a liver transplant. As soon as I get back home, I'll get right back into my workouts. Looks like it's going to be a great year with the WISH team.:goodvibes

Welcome Katarina!!

I am going to go for a run in another hour or two. I have been so good lately about logging my runs and I am increasing a little everytime.

Look what UnderArmour made for me!!

Oddly enough, it's a neutral shoe...just what I wear!

Nice shoes !!!

Well I can't believe it I just hit PAY NOW on my Goofy Registration for 2010 a little bit of this:crazy2: and a little bit of :cheer2: going through my head right now

Good afternoon WISHers!

Hoping everyone is enjoying their Sunday.

Out for 7 miles this morning.

Katarina - :welcome:

Mel - Gee, a shoe named after you. Can I have your autograph? ;) :lmao:

Everyone - Have a great day and keep up with the training!

:)

Welcome Katarina!!! We have a lot in common, I danced since I was two but stopped after a car accident, wedding, and having two kids. I auditioned at Disneyland several times, but never made it to the end. So Way to Go You. :) And I like you am new to running, and my family chuckled a little at me too, it will be fun to see how we make out.

Last week I slacked off (still managed two jogs and one walk though), I was on such a role, but with the snow in NC, :confused3 and me being a Cali girl originally I was not going out in that cold. I know, no excuses, so this week I'm going to put on my big girl pants and make it out no matter what:scared: .

Mel joins the ranks of Jordan, James, Kobe. All-stars with their own shoes. :thumbsup2

Way to pull the trigger Kimmer, you and Mike will get it done. Plenty of training time.

Welcome to all our newbies to the WISH team.

I made it out for 8 miles today. Have a great Sunday.

Mel: Yay for signing up for the Princess Half. Too bad about CMM, though, as I know you really want to do it. Mel, you know I'm not particularly superstitious, but you just have to try those shoes on. They're made for you!

Jeff: Still, WTG with your 6 milers and your 8 miler today. New season. Train smarter, not harder. (One of my mantras. Not as clever as run to eat, but less caloric.)

Jim: And my double-secret prediction is that you'll have a fine race, regardless of your time! I'll be thinking good thoughts for you for a sub 2.00, though. :thumbsup2

Katarina: Welcome to WISH! Wow! Congrats on passing the audition, and I hope you get a spot soon. That would be so cool to know someone down there--oh, and I'm sure you'd like the experience, too. :goodvibes I'm a graduate of C25K. I highly recommend it because it "forces" you to build your miles slowly and carefully. Do let us know how you progress. And we'll laugh WITH you along the way, lovingly, like your mom! (And feel free to laugh with, or at, me. My attempts to train are always filled with clumsy moments and other hilarity.)

Bryan: Wow, I didn't know you had another 1/2 already! You rock! What's the event?

Shan: Jackie could best speak to the Galloway method. She follows his program and has met the man. I do believe, however, he's a proponent of very short intervals.

SamSam: Oooh, I hear EE is tons of fun (from Jeanne) and of course so is the 1/2! Good company, indeed. :thumbsup2 for being there for your friend during his/her recovery from the liver transplant.

ImMarciK: Good job logging your miles. Are you following the 10% rule for increasing your mileage?

Kim: Congratulations for Going Goofy! You're in esteemed company--me. :rotfl2:

Vic: WTG with your 7 miles!

JPFamilyMom: Big girl pants. :rotfl: Two jogs and a walk doesn't exactly sound like slacking off, though.

As for me: XT today. I tried the stairmaster for the first time in a long time. :crazy2: Gotta love the crackling sounds in my knees. Nope, I'm not old...

chimera - love the shoes! You should get a pair in your honor. ;)

Just back from 4 nights at WDW. We stayed at Caribbean beach and I got two OUTSIDE running days in. It was so nice. I know it has been cold in FL but 50 and sunny is great for a run and it was warmer when I finished. I know it is NOT 1.4 miles around the inside loop , you know the one around the lake. I know that I read it was, but it can't be or I have just run a very, very fast mile. I spent my first solo day at the MK-9 hours and didn't get all the things done I wanted to. It was 32 degrees Thursday morning-Dumbo had frost on his ears. I always like to try and ride Dumbo first. Mostly it was a great trip after all that my DH and I have been through this year and it's still January.

Looks like I'll be back on the TM tomorrow.:sad2:

Hope everyones training goes well this week!

Question for the "seasoned" (those with lots of miles in half or full marathons and on the older side like later 30's and up) athletes.
THe last year or so I have had some added issues with my feet.
I would like to do a full marathon, but with the way my feet and toes act up at around mile11 I think I would give up and die at around mile16.
The ball of my right foot just starts to burn and ache badly and I know if I were to keep going past 13.1 miles I would be limping.
This has been my 7th Half Marathon and just recently been haveing this issue. Don't know if it is just my "old" feet or what. I wear thor-lo socks that have a GOOD amount of cushioning. I wear orthotics because I have had PF in both heels at one point or another. I put glide on my heels, balls of the feet and such. Also my toes next to the big toes, the toenails ache alot after I am done. Can't really touch them at all or it kills. Is better the next day. I use little toes socks when I go longer than 9 miles.
I think I need to go see the Podiatrist to help me out with something .
I would like to try a full, but don't want to be doing it and being in pain and not really enjoying the adventure.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Tired feet Tracy
