Wk of Jan 21--WISH Walking/Running Club

I finally made it to the gym to exercise!!!:cheer2: This was the first time since completing the half. I have had some problems with my shins since returning from WDW so I spent a few weeks resting. I think I'll cross train for a week before I start training again for the Minnie.

Kim - Thanks for asking the question about a 15K training plan. I've also been wondering what to do.

Bill, Stacy, Scott and Krista - Thanks for your suggestions about a 15K training plan. I'm going to look at the ones that were mentioned and also look at modifing the MFM plan that I used to train for the half.

Maggie - I walked the half this year with my DH. We maintained a walking pace of 13:40 until we got to MK then we stopped to get many pictures with the characters along the way. Our overall pace was around 14:00. When we started training last summer I remember walking 2 miles at a 16:00 pace seemed extrememly hard. I thought that I would be in fear of the sweepers and never get to stop for pictures. We followed the MFM plan and it worked for me. Next year my DH will probably go at his pace (8:00) instead of mine - so I'll be looking for someone to pass the time with.

blueroses – how are you feeling after your 11 miles yesterday?
Not terrible :)
The funny thing is I was sore yesterday morning from my workout on Tuesday, and I'm not too much more so today. However, today I really will rest my muscles.
To all the new moms and new moms to be, I wanted to mention that I got SMOKED by a woman running past me with a jogging stroller (AND a dog) yesterday. She was fast.

Judy -- are you going to be in Atlantic City, NJ tonight? Do you know how close that is to where I am? Is it just one night? Tell me, tell me! And I think it is very cool that you checked on the hotel's exercise facilities. When I was going to be stuck in a town 2 hours away this fall during a trial, my biggest concerns were the quality of the hotel's fitness center and where to find healthy food! :rotfl:

Morning all!

Just back from the gym--another 4 miler, but this was a hill workout--varied the incline from 1-4% at 6.5mph. Then off ot the weight room for abs and arms. My DD just told me I'm stinky, so I guess I really need ashower.

Kim--was it you who asked about food??? On short run days, I just eat a normal breakfast a couple hours before and then eat something right after getting home. On the night before a LR, I drink a big bottle of gatorade. Then the morning of, I eat a banana and pb toast. I also have one cup of coffee for my own sanity. Then during the LR only water and shot bloks--then once I'm done I eat whatever I can get my hands on--LOL--usually some fruit and lots of water!

Hey, it's my turn to ask a question. I haven't been into much xtraining recently and I'm wondering where to fit it in to my training schedule. According to my schedule, I'm doing 3-4 SRs a week and then one LR on the weekend. And according to the schedule all the other days are "off days". Any ideas??? I'm respecting the rest days, but I'm wondering if I should sub one xtraining day for the off time????

Well, I better go--DD is screaming at DS about god knows what now!

I'm probably misspelling this but we're staying in Absecon, NJ. I think the play is at Stockton State. :confused3

Oh no! Don't tell me this now! Shoot.

Blueroses--Do you take icebaths after lr's? Completely painful, but SO worth it. Whenever I take one (usually after anything over 10 for me, but it varies from person to person) I have zero pain or soreness when I get out.

TXAng--I don't count cross training miles toward my weekly mileage.

Judy--I brought my Mickey medal into work after I got back, one of my co-workers put it around her neck. I thought I was going to have a heart attack!!!!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I had a LW (long walk since I walk not run) today, the longest I've ever done! 6 MILES! I've done 5 before, but I'm so excited because "I walked 6 miles today!" It's interesting what a sense of accomplishment that gives me!

But, it taught me that I need to get a seamless tank to walk in, my arms were chafing!

Well, I'm very glad to hear it isn't just me that feels that way! :goodvibes I thought about wearing my medal to work but I was afraid people would be pawing it. I'm so glad I bought a Half pin, and I've worn that to work every day since I got back. I'm wondering how long I can wear it without being obnoxious. :rotfl:

But then again, since when did that ever stop me from doing anything?? :rotfl2:

True. True. ;)

Stacey--That is AWESOME!!!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3: There's nothing in the world like the feeling you get when you've upped your mileage and go a distance you've never gone before. It's heavenly. :cloud9:

Just think.....that's 2/3 the Minnie 15K distance!:woohoo: Great job! Today's my workout day off. Tomorrow I run.

Happy training all:)

Stacey--WTG on the 6 miles!

Stephanie--You'll probably get many different answers, but here's what I've done. Like you, I try to respect the rest days, and I always make sure I have at least one a week. If I'm running 5 days and trying to get more than one xtrain in during the week, too, I'll usually double up on one or two days. I'll try to get to the gym in the morning to xtrain/lift, and then I'll do a run in the evening. I've tried to do the "double up" days on easier running days to avoid fatigue or injury.
I don't know if this is the best method, but it seems to work for me.

Steve

Stacey Way to go on the new distance! :thumbsup2

Stephanie On my training plan non running days are listed as Rest/XT. I generally do strenght training on those days with the exception of Sat and Sun I ski those days. I am only running 3 days a week though.

nucpharm29....yes that was me asking about the food, I think I have asked a million questions today. Thank you for your routine, I am reading everything and seeing what will work for me

Stacey awesome on the increase in milage WTG!!!!

Kim

Erica; big time miles. What event/when are you training for?

I am training for a half marathon on March 31st, then the Flying Pig Marathon on May 6th, then maintence base miles until Sept when I ramp up my training for the Goofy Challenge.

Erica:)

Krista - That is so funny!!!! I obviously didn't get to take mine to work. Of course when Phil and I get any, they go to the boy immediately. I always lament a little about something that i just got getting smeared w/ jelly!! I hope your co-worker didn't do that!!! I think it would kindof' freak me out if someone did that.

Went kayaking on the river whilst the boy was in preschool. It was fun and a little cold. the temp started out at 29 when we put in. I think by the time we came off the water it was in the mid 30's. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 50's!!!!! Man, i wish the boy had school tomorrow! It is a perfect day to be outside!!!

Stacey Congratulations on your 6 miler!!! You go girl!

Oh, bummer! I have been keeping the flying pig in the back of my mind as Krista made it sound pretty fun last year. I just got an e-mail that my april adventure race has been moved to may on the weekend of the flying pig!! I was really thinking hte mini wish meet sounded like so much fun!
