Wk of Jan 21--WISH Walking/Running Club

Jen...yay!!!! If you want, I can give you a medical excuse for work so that you can do the full ;) I'm going to have to get a lot faster to keep up with Kristi!

Mel - well this outta make you even more excited... I ahve a better shot at making it to the Full than the 1/2. Remember the reasons I don't know are because of conventions... well the convention goes until the 10th, so theoretically making the full, which is one day later, is much much easier. Now next week I am gone to another convention... once I get those dates for next year I can start planning.

Anne - Hmmm... your right about being robbed. Maybe WDW doesn't care as much about celebrating the milestones of the 1/2 marathon.

OH HEY BOSTON MARATHON WANNABE'S... The Green Bay, WI Marathon is a Boston qualifier. I hear it is pretty flat except for a gradual uphill section, so it should be a fast one. I am planning on doing the 1/2, so if anyone wants to join me, we can have a mini WISH meet. I plan to wear my shirt whether there are other WISHers there or not. I am that devoted!!!!! That reminds me, I need to order the tank so I have the whole collection of WISH shirts.

" 'Go out there and run to the best of your ability,' he replied. 'Don't run with your legs. Run with your heart.'
On some level, even as a high school freshman, I got his meaning: the human body has limitations; the human spirit is boundless. I didn't need a wristwatch to set the pace; I needed to run with my heart."

I love that! You're right, it's VERY WISH!!!!

Confesssion: I have been so confused. I was sure hockeygirl was Kim, but then it was Laurie, but then it was Kim. Made my head hurt. :headache: Until I entered shirt info tonight. hockeychic = Kim and hockeygirl = Laurie. Learn something new every day! :rotfl:

blueroses - 11 miles? OK, I am a slacker.

Well now you have me confused!!

Dana

I'm always confused! Can somebody help me?:confused3

Miles for this week so far:

Mon 10 miles
Tue 7 miles
Wed 10 miles

Erica:)

I really love having races to train for! It seems that even though the marathon was horrible, I did gain something positive as my times have drastically improved!

You are more than welcome to cause me more confusion!

Erica:)

Maggie - I'm hoping to run at least part of the half. Right now I'm doing 2R/2W intervals during 3 mile runs, so I'm reasonably sure I should be able to improve on that within the year! But there will definitely be walking involved.

Judy - I stayed in the warm bed too this morning. It was an official rest day. But we'll be up and on the TM tomorrow, so don't be late!

Jackie

Greetings from humidity land - it's so sticky here it's horrid. I'm now actually glad I can't run!!!

Dave - not only do you get beer at the running club - it's FREE. We pay $5 and get the run, a beer or wine and a prize draw. So last night, I bought a number even though I didn't run - and was the first prize picked out. The bottle of wine was mine - hooray!!!

Bree: There is one benefit of baby: my friend dropped 20 minutes off her expected half time as she kind of forgot how much faster you go without the stroller. She was so used to running pushing this huge weight she flew round!

Cam: I know what you mean, I was driving down the road today and there were two builders on top of a house in WISH coloured yellow shirts and I was like 'who's that' - then I remembered!. Tim also delights in proclaiming that the lime green car down the road is teh official WISH road vehicle.

NucPharm: Yep I've read Dean's book - I read it while training for the marathon, it kind of put into perspective what I was doing. I kept thinking 'what you worrying about a piddly 26 miles for, you could be running across death valley!!!' .

Anyway, that's my lot - off to lie on the sofa now. Helen

Erica; big time miles. What event/when are you training for?

Melissa/Matt; DW saw a couple of medals (Mickey, I think) up last week. One was up to $250 and one was around $5. Makes no sense.

I got my 3 miles in on the TM last night, rest day today. Trying to figure out how to squeeze an 8 mi LR in on Friday. Life tends to get in the way at times.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I had a good run yesterday. I did 4.6 miles on the treadmill. 4 miles were at 10 mpm pace (6.0 mph), and I did a 0.3 mile warm up and cool down walk. I needed it because I had a frustrating day at work. Need some good results from my experiments.

Melissa- I'm really impressed when you say that you weren't that physically active before you were pregnant. You've done so much since the boy was born. Wow, what a turnaround.

blueroses- Wow, 11 miles in the middle of the week. That's awesome! WTG!

Erica- I just read your post. 27 miles by Wednesday! That's amazing! What an inspiration.

Helen- FREE beer at the running club! OK, when are we having that WISH meet in New Zealand?

Matt- I saw those medals on eBay too. Who sells their medal? Even worse, who buys the medal?

I'm going to have to get a lot faster to keep up with Kristi!

I don't think so, Mel! I may be all crazy-fast (for me) during a 3 mile training wog. But put me in a Disney race and I slow right down to 14+ min. miles! Too many pics to take & WISHers to talk to! :rotfl:

Well, I know some people who sell them. During the "no medals left" fiasco(:furious: ) , one CM who I've seen at many Disney races/expos, was telling me he already had 3 finishers come to him asking for a new medal since theirs was stolen! All I could think was that those medals were for eBay.

I'd imagine there are also non-Disney-fan people who run this race for whatever reason. Maybe they don't like keeping a bazillion medals around? I dunno.

I just don't get who buys these...? :confused3

Uuugh, if people were getting additional medals just to sell, that's sick. When I finished the marathon, the person with the medals hung my Mickey around my neck. There were 2 others all tangled up in my medal. The volunteer didn't even notice. He was on to the next person all ready. I could have easily walked out of there with 3 medals, but I gave the other 2 back.

I also thought there might be honest runners around that have a bazillion medals from running all their marathons, and don't really care to save them. That's a legit reason to sell one. But still, who buys them?

I remember seeing some of the "memory" places selling shadow boxes that claimed to give you another set of medals. You could wind up with two sets easily that way.

If people had their medals stolen or destroyed by fire or something else at home, they would probably be looking to replace them somehow.

OK, fair enough, those are all valid reasons to have a second set of medals or to need another medal. I wasn't being open minded enough. Too early I guess. I guess it's also possible that maybe between the marathon and home you somehow lost your medal, and you want another one. I know I would be devastated if I lost my hard earned medal. Although, buying one off of eBay wouldn't be quite the same for me as the one that was draped over my head and is covered with my sweat from the just finished race. Thanks Bill for the other perspective.
